tats why its important to know the basics of flow rate in relation to pipe dia...to properly understand ya 2nd point.....in sump filtration we are talking about a gravity fed system and a pump fed return.....2 good points you made about the pitfalls of a sump filter tat we need to watch out for....
So I'm about to start a new 180 gallon reef tank with a sump system. If I am understanding you correctly, I fill the main tank display up to the owerflows and fill the sump to the level I want it at, then turn on the return pump for the first setup?
Thank you..the option we have is to broaden the sump or change to smaller l/h pump. but can we install ball valve on outlet pipe to reduce to suction power of the pump?
Hi, please help me. I am using 2 overflow from main tank to sump but sometimes water stopped coming down to sump from main tank and I need to suck the pipe by mouth again and again while 15 watt pump which suck water from sump to main tank with 3rd overflow continue working so it’s flood for me from main tank. What is wrong here . I am using hanging pvc made overflow . Please help
The additional water should be considered into the main water it shouldn't flood. If it does that means you design is wrong. YOu need bigger sump tank ( pump compartment sector needs to be bigger ) . Another method to avoid this is use smaller pump if you unable to cater for bigger sump.
Awesome. Your channel is so underated. Bro, whats the ideal pump sizing for 48"x18"x20" tank using sump system. Tank to sump 25mm pipe and return is 15mm pipe
If this is the case , a float switch connected to your sump pump that turns off supply when level in sump drops would be better . Your tank should be design to take extra volume of water some pump sump compartment.
Hello, great video. In your opinion, which type of sump is more reliable and safe - above the aquarium /overhead/ or below it-like this in the video. Thank you. Can you make a video for example?
For me, sump filtration is much for reliable for future proof because you can add more media and it doesn't strain your aquarium brackets of the aquarium-like overhead filtration does. Ok sure ill make a video on which is safer soon.
Hi bro... please make a video simple aro tank setup for newbies and please suggest an aro type that newcomers can try keeping as their first aro.. thanks
that is mean.. need to drill a hole on the waterpump end pipe that water goes out into the tank right? at the beginning i thought it is the pipe that the water goes down into the sump.. huhu
Hi nice explanation may I know if u doing water change the siphon of water is from. Top tank or below tank and do I have to off the sump when doing it Need your advice thanks in advance
12000LPH in total - Size of return pipe is 1 inch for each pump and overflow pipe back to sump is 2inch full siphon with 1 inch as water level controller or backup.
Hi , how old is your tank? usually if a big water changes not done right you might had killed some bacteria - not to worry just leave it in couple of days it will clear off. Anti Chlorine first then only add water back in your aquarium. Other possible cloudy is maybe your tap water was abit dirty that day.
@@TheSimpleAquarist my tank is about 2 months old. Done water test and the tank is cycled. Yesterday I added in nitrifying bacteria and the water clear up quite a lot. Ya I guess I destroyed some of the bacteria when I did water change few days back. Thanks for the advice bro.
with a sump and an overflow box you are only taking water from the top of your tank. What happens to all the fish poop at the bottom of your tank? That never gets cycled.
Thanks very helpful for a person who doesn't have any experience with this
ver very good video! i have been researching sumps and tanks for the last few months and never ever thought of this but it all makes sense!

More water getting pumped into the main tank from sump and less water syphoniny from main tank to sump. How to adjust?

Yes exactly.
So much valuable info. Love how organized your sump system is!

YES correct, never fill after pump activated.
@@TheSimpleAquarist so add rock also etc to level it out too I’m sure to get a correct sumo level
@@chadfishtankguy Yes add everything then fill.

Yes we can reduce power of the pump using ball valve.
Thank you for your thorough explanation. This is so helpful!
How many gallons is your tank?
400G

Kindly share the design of your sump . Dimension of each compartment and the dimension of the baffles.

I want to add a auto top off. So when water level goes gown then additional water will come and it will flode

Nice arowana! And great information. 👍
Glad you liked it!
thank you buddy! it helps!

Thanks. Very informative and i am sure will help lots of newbies especially those just started or thinking to use this method of filtration.

Awesome. Your channel is so underated. Bro, whats the ideal pump sizing for 48"x18"x20" tank using sump system. Tank to sump 25mm pipe and return is 15mm pipe
3500-4000 LPH
you can add a pvc valve to control the flow as you like as well.
Thanks bro. Helped me out a lot
No problem 👍
how about what type of float switch to stop main tank 0verflowing if syphhon stops annd sump pump keeps pumping
If this is the case , a float switch connected to your sump pump that turns off supply when level in sump drops would be better . Your tank should be design to take extra volume of water some pump sump compartment.
Informative. Thank you ❤️

This video absolutely helps! Tq bro, keep updating
Sure. Thanks for watching.
Haha the arowna will def fly out I learned!
When the last chaimber become lower water level the pump star noisy .is that problem? Is it good for pumps working or it couse to damage the pump?
when you need add more water - evaporation causes that . If left long period pump can spoil

that is mean.. need to drill a hole on the waterpump end pipe that water goes out into the tank right? at the beginning i thought it is the pipe that the water goes down into the sump.. huhu
Yes drill a hole at return piping from the pump into the tank.
Hi nice explanation may I know if u doing water change the siphon of water is from. Top tank or below tank and do I have to off the sump when doing it

Yes if you want to do a water change you need to turn of your pump completely .
Bro how many L/H your pump running? What brand is it? And do you run both, or one only? Tq
Hi , currently my system running on 7000LPH and 5000LPH and yes i run both of incase 1 of it failed i have back up. Using SOBO Brand .
@@TheSimpleAquarist so your tank running 13000LH right? What is the size of pipe, from your tank to down to sump? And size from pump to the tank?
12000LPH in total - Size of return pipe is 1 inch for each pump and overflow pipe back to sump is 2inch full siphon with 1 inch as water level controller or backup.
Wow, this is what I was searching for. Thank you very much bro. Your explanation was neat and clear.
Thanks, glad it helpful.
Would a check valve work so water doesn’t come back
Yes you can use a check valve but if the check valve fail it would be disaster as well.
Hi bro, my fish tank become cloudy after I did a partial water change and added in vitamins for arowana. Do you know the reason why?

@@qingdeke961 welcome happy fishkeeping
Then how them syphn will restart?
Its gravity not syphn - see my overflow video
How do you get the water out of the return line so you can do the maintenance and water doesn’t go everywhere lol🤔
ITs a closed loop system - when you turn off pump all the water will go into the sump.
Can u plz mention the name aquarium lights used in your aquarium
Hi Aditya, Im using an RGB led-5050 . Stay tuned ill be doing a video on aquarium lightings.
Sudah kenaaaa.
Yeah memang penat dan leceh. jadi Jaga2 ye
Is that a plywood aquarium behind u?
Nope its glass aquarium with wood cabinet.... Check out my video on that video on my channel.

Add a wavemaker to push those poops.
@@TheSimpleAquarist and make the fish do circus
@@shiyamaifrad8933 LOL - if thats your goal. If you just direct the wave maker to btm of the tank. The fishes will be fine.
