wranglerstar Thank you Sir! Your videos have definitely inspired me to restore all of my family's old tools, as well as create some new ones as i go. I am currently working on several other old AXE and wood working tool projects...more videos to come!
I bought a Hookaroon from Council Tool Lake Waccamaw NC and I cannot imagine not having it. By far the best tool I have ever owned. My back is happy again.
Well done, you've shown how with a little time, and alot of perseverance, you can turn an old tool of one sort into a new functional tool. And i must say, the end product looks beautiful.
I think that was brilliant. What a fantastic job, and if I may say, much better that the expensive offerings on eBay. You should consider selling them. And for those that think this is a worthless tool, this would be invaluable to someone like me with a bad back. I've watched that video a couple of times now. I love it. Good job!
Thanks for showing us how to repurpose the axe head. This project is within the grasp of most do-it-yourselfer's. My thought on purchasing the head. If I have to buy the head, might as well buy the hole thing.
Great job and nice craftsmanship! Pay no attention to the small percentage of UA-cam twits who always have to have some criticism of someone else's project. I'm convinced those jerks have never made anything. Anyone who has ever crafted a project knows that there are many pauses, reflections, re-assessments, re-groupings and then forging ahead again as new ideas come up and the project moves forward. As Wranglerstar said, "You've done yourself proud" and you have something you can pass down to the next generation! Function and beauty in the same tool! Can't ask for more than that. Well done!
Loved the pickaroon. I was actually goin to ebay to look for one, and somehow found your video. Instead of buying one, i will build as you did. Thanks for sharing! Subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!
...workin' tool... doesn't have to be perfect... i'm on 800 grit now... i won't go higher than this 2000... The tool obsessive ocd made me smile. Nice Job!
I chuckled at that as well. And then he goes on to say that if there's any scratches left it will give it character... Like you could see the scratches a 2000 grit left anyway.
Great video, that is a interesting way to make a Picaroon. Repurposing this is a technique from old, we are starting to see come back in last few years.
Thanks Zack! When i was a kid, my grandfather taught me to make do with what you have and take pride in whatever you do. It has stuck with me ever since.
I am impressed. I have a store bought picaroon that I use quite a bit . But have been considering making one from left over axes I have laying around. I watched your video from start to finish and apparently great minds think alike as I was planning on nearly the same path you took. Thank you for sharing
nice job nick...what I usually do with mine is swell the wood handle in water for about 1 day, then the wood expands and you will have no gaps at all...no need for wedges or anything...I always put a role pin like you do... Gary
Well great job, best pickaroon I have seen on youtube. As for your info as to the use axe head from pawnshop is a get job. All I came up with by watching others was a bolt and bending a piece of flat stock. Kent in Willow, AK.
That was awesome. Next $2 axe head i find, I know what I will be doing with it. Laughed my head off when you said "It is going to be a working tool so no need o perfect." and just moments later you were at 2000 grit sandpaper! lol - I guess perfect is a relative term! Thanks for posting
Nick, you've done yourself proud with this Pickaroon,
