man, that is an heirloom piece with a time-honored quality look to it that can be passed down for generations man!! make a bow and quiver, and i'll let you adopt me!
Love that axe. You made something beautiful from something very plain! And thanks for fast forwarding the boring parts (sanding, shaving, etc...) that many you tubes leave in and bore us to death ! You "Rock "dude! Looking forward to more of your awesome work !
I initially started this video thinking "what a waste of a good axe head" but I must say that end result was pretty sick. I'd have to say that was some nice work. Great job I'm glad I watched the whole video
You've turned something ordinary into EXTRAORDINARY! If you didn't show the whole process from start to finish.. I would have thought you were lying. You SIR is my kind of ARTIST and her.. She's A Thing Of Beauty!!
WOW, I really appreciate all of the comments, I am currently working on a few more video projects to be hopefully finished soon time permitting. Just a question would anyone like to see more viking style mods? I ask because i have an old messed up Hewing axe that i have been debating dicing up into something wicked. Anyone interested in seing a video of that?
Nick Sellers you sir are very skilled, you should get a job like movie prop maker or medieval blacksmith or something, because you are really good at what you do! :)
Nick Sellers This looks great, thanks for the upload. I'm pretty much always interested in viking weaponry, especially axes and hammers. So I guess yeah, I'm totally interested in seeing a video of that. lol
Very nicely done! I've done similar to re-purpose old axes but never brought them to this level of perfection. Anf the period correct straight handle-- Perfection. Thanks for the instruction
So that wedge is how you keep the head on the handle! Now that different coloured bit of wood on hammers becomes apparent. What a transformation. Great to watch it happen.
Wow. Real nice work. You are a craftsman. The whole thing is nicely proportioned and your attention to detail (like the contrasting wedge and the sculpted handle end) is remarkable.
Simply beautiful! Brother, that is double barrel thumbs up. Thank you, for sharing your time and talent with us and very much looking forward to future projects.
Impressive. I’m new to axe restoration, and this is not only impressive, but inspirational. As Vikings was my ancestors, living in the land of the Vikings, I’m drawn to make an effort to do similar work as you’ve shown here. Impressive. Kudos to you Sir.
I think you have done wonderful job on this axe. I am acquainted with a blacksmith who actually forges this type of axe head in a traditional manner and I have to say that for a home hobbiest, you have made something very nice. I really like the fact that this would be something that would actually hold up in it's intended use, because of the basic axe head you started with and the really stout handle you have fabricated. Not that I would hope it would ever be used as a weapon, it is just nice that it could, as opposed to some home hobbiests who put together items like tomahawks made from railroad spikes, which could never be functional. You have a nice array of tools as well, it was great to see someone using a drawknife and spokeshave and that they were actually sharp enough to cut.
Fantastic work. I customized a Cold Steel bearded axe. It turn out great. I had a lot of fun with that project, I think something like this will be my next project. Thanks for inspiration.
The whole time I am watching, I am thinking..."wow, structurally ruining a perfectly usable axe head." But I have to admit end product is probably quite balanced structurally and nice to look at. I am happy to been able to observe your techniques and the inspiration you have imparted. Thank you. PS I am subscriber no. 6,765 nice to meet you.
Very cool end result Nick. I really like how you converted it into a hand axe even though it had that large eye in the ax head itself. Good thinking and great work man. Just a really sweet ax in the end, one of a kind.... cool. Thanks for the video.
I love this video. Its really cool seeing the process and the finished product. And as a guy who's deprived of building and having a workshop, I can get live vicariously through these videos. My only request is that you dub something over the grinder sound like music or a voice over of what you were think or some anecdotes.
Have watched several of your vids and really like your work. Your attention to detail is impressive, and I know first hand the time involved in getting a near mirror finish on steel. Keep up the very good work.
May not be traditional or the most practical but killer looking piece and awesome job man! That was clearly a lot of hard work and the end result looks phenomenal!
Really impressive work. I'd love to be able to craft things like these, much respect for the dedication and patience you put in to make this. Would really like to see more.
thanks for uploading this. Even tho I will probably never do it- it was definitely an enjoyable view to watch your work and the end product was amazing.
Nick your freakin awesome bro! Ha ha seriously tho! The whole time I'm watching along the way I prob said sick out loud 50 times! Idk if you remember talkin with me b4 I built a pickroon from your video, awesome also!! Have been away from the tube for a while but came around now that I got a iPad ha ha but since the pickroon I've collected few old axe heads an stashed them away. Ha I even have one sitting in my bedroom closet in the back corner next to a nice axe I acquired. I think we like axes! But now I've found a use for one of them old axe head so a new project awaits!
Nick! WOW!!! You Sir are a fantastic Fabricator and one hell of an Artist my friend! Thanks for posting the very BEST such video on the entire network! Extremely well done. I have to subscribe to see what else you're doing. Best Regards...

Brilliant concept beautifully executed! An artist at work.
I like the idea of knocking chunks off with the hammer! That must have saved a lot of cutting / grinding time. Finished axe looks cool.
