Space Marine 2 probably did a lot to popularize Deathwatch. I saw more people running the Deathwatch cosmetics than I thought I would. And, to new people, the Deathwatch sounded like this mysterious, bad ass organization
Its not that deathwatch weren't cool, its that their rules and kits weren't that good when you could pick basically any other space marine army and have more fun and support
@hansgerman3437 They couldn't predict how successful the game would be, but I don't think GW found out Deathwatch was in the game after the release. They knew it was going to be there since early development, and someone in GW could've thought it was an opportunity. There are only two "chapters" in the game's campaign, Ultramarines a Deathwatch. The Secret Labs animation is going to be Ultramarines, and this new GW animation is going to be Deathwatch. Smart idea, imo.
@@hansgerman3437 Unless they say it we really don't know... It could have been a quick decision within the first week. And if it's made by the same person who is already previously made such content. Then something like this would not be hard to make within 3 weeks not even 2.

Its looks exactly likea team of 3 of the playable classes in space marine 2( Bulwark, Tactical, and vanguard). There is also the potential for the Necrons to be added as an ingame enemy in the future.
When I saw those Necron stuff near the end of the game. I always felt that it was a foreshadow that Necrons would be the next faction to have in the game for the future.
I've been saying it for years that, BANDAI NAMCO FILMWORKS are a PERFECT fit for WARHAMMER 40K animation. Almost a quarter of the stuff their studios do is Gundam (2d and 3d), they have alot of talent that knows how to perfectly translate plastic war-themed model kits that are intended for adult hobbyists into faithful marketable lore accurate animation.
Erasmus Brosdau is directing Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, he can do 3D Gundam, we already knew he can do 40K .... Imagine 3D imperial knights movie/TV show.
i mean neither are correct :P DW have watch fortresses usually deploy in singular squads however in rare cases where a important system(with no one else available) or their watch fortress is under threat they have been known to function like a company
Probably a side project Rasmus did with Bamco. His latest big project is the Gundam movie with Bamco. Probably Bamco gonna collab a model line too. They are basically Japanese GW in term of model sales. And they did made a SM model kit line before
As someone who took a several edition hiatus from 40k (skipped 7-9) and got back in because of the deathwatch I was pretty upset by them getting squatted. I'm beyond excited that they have more coming down the line, potentially a big refresh! I guess their 4 units in Imperial Agents is just a more robust version of the GK and SOB inclusions?

I thought I recognized that directors name thats our boi who made The Lord Inquisitor fan animation all those years ago! Ha I'm happy for the guy he finally got to make a official animation for 40k.
the collab between Erasmus and Bandai probs originates from the fact that Erasmus has worked with Bandai to create the upcoming Gundam show on Netflix - Requiem for Vengeance with comes out mid - Oct. Bandai has worked with GW in the past so may have just been promotion collab for the franchise.
I love that each chapters flavor and strengths were shown in this short animation, with each chapter filling their perspective rolls in the team perfectly. Shows how bad ass a desth watch killteam can be when used correctly!
Codexes are planned years in advance, not to mention the logistics to check the writing, make sure everything is to standard, double checking. then printing. I'm willing to bet that unless some catastrophic failure in the entire codex creation process, GW already has the physical codexes available months in advance. December is in three months, this Deathwatch rules update is probable brought on by Space Marine II suddenly making them popular again, as well as the poor reception of the imperial agents rules for them. there's simply no time in three months that they'll be able to bring out an entirely new from scratch deathwatch codex. while I don't think it'll be a full Codex separate for the deathwatch, I'm willing to bet that some of the removed deathwatch units are coming back and are going to be added to the imperial agents codex, and they'll make a new detachment for agents of the imperium for pure deathwatch armies. and it'll most likely be free.
Interesting to note that the black templar is definitely wearing partly primaris armour (see his greaves at 1:20 with the signature 'wheel' in the side) and the reactor 'ring' in his backpack.
It could be prediction of necrons as a enemy for the upcoming space marine 2 season pass updates. Look at what we have here: Deathwatch black templar as bulwark class, space wolf as vanguard class and crimson fist? as tactical class. It will be nice to see)
Space Marines influence is obvious. The Templar does bullward stuff (shield bash), the leaping Wolf has the vanguard helm and uses the combat knife and drops all vanguardy, the overwatch guy gives tactical vibes.
The digital update rules was mentioned in the warhammer community article that had the animation and interview with the creators of it. Might have been a later addtion, but it is at the bottom of the article as a post script.
They'll probably do it as they did with the Emperor's children stuff and Lucius. They'll allow deathwach stuff from Imperial Agents codex to be fully usable with space marines codex (with the deathwach unit restrictions, ofcurse) .That said, IMO I like how the deathwacht is now in the Imperial agents codex 🙃
I knew collecting Deathwatch in 10th was a test of faith and now I see that I was being rewarded with this awesome trailer and more focus on Deathwatch thanks to SM2. Hope to see more awesome cinematic like this for all factions
The way the Deathwatch rolled up on the Guardsmen and stopped , looked down and were like: did you ring for a tow? Car broke down?😂😂 Also I can’t imagine what I would do if a living breathing menacing walking tank walked up to me, even for just a chat about the latest football matches
I think that each Space Marine subfaction should get an "index" like this with a specialized detachment with a few upgrades and "fluff" units. For example, Fists get Bolter buffs and Huscarls which are kitbashed termies
If i remember. Tokyo has a Dark Angel Theme in Japan, and it is getting more popular. Since japan loves their knightlu base. Then California has the Imperial fist and texas. I believe the blood angels
My hypothesis is Deathwatch being folded into the core space marines codex, alongside Salamanders and Raven Guard. They get a detatchment and their units get datasheets apart from Agents rules.
Animation is a bit stiff but still a lot better than his last work (the one that was linked), defiantly an improvement, new Deathwatch stuff like an upgrade kit, vehicle/ flyers ectara would be nice with their codex. All the Tyranid & possible Ork/Eldar stuff happening atm would be a perfect time to release it, to combo with some narrative dotted here and there in the galaxy would be cool. It would have been better to show this animation on a Friday and then the Saturday the full reveal, the next weekend would have full release, that to me would have been better, but who am I.
Apparently I need to brush up on Necrons cos when I watched it the first time I thought the big guy was something new, then I saw the article describe it as a Skorpekh Lord and thought "...of course it is, how did I not spot that?"
My guess is they saw the backlash and went “you know what, let’s make some rules and repaint any normal Killteam Space Marine product as Deathwatch and pump them out” I mean if they Primarisize the Watchmaster and give us a Kill Team and then let them run normal space marines that’s all we ever wanted. If they want to be cool let us run multiple special weapons in Terminators and Intercessors for like +10 points so you can have 5 mans with a fist, hammer, Power sword and chain sword on 4 of the 5 and the fifth guy gets the grenade launcher. Instantly makes their intercessors way cooler. Terminators can run all 3 special weapons in the box at the same time in a five man. Restrict them from taking either as ten man’s if you’re worried they’d be too strong and you already have some flavor. Give them a cool detachment rule like +1 AC on all bolter weapons and anti-xenos +5 so it’s not over powered. And give Agents an army rule they also get like hell a 6+ FNP alone would make the army feel more elite.
Oh shit. The guy who animated that has an animated series, which is dropping in 2 weeks on Netflix. "Gundam requim for vengeance" Gundam is a franchise owned by bandai aswell.
can the deathwatch killteam get its adeptus astartes keyword back too? it'd be nice if the space marines could benefit from space marine rules but i guess after seeing admech that's probably too much to ask
I bet they wanted a physical update for this edition but cocked it up, then the factory work happened so it's on the back burner and instead they will push out an "Index Deathwatch". New rules but no now units but lets you kitbash Primaris units. Maybe a Deathwatch upgrade sprue with some shoulder pads but I doubt it till end of edition and a refresh next edition.
Don't do that, don't give me hope Valrak. I was in the process of painting my first army, about 2500 points of deathwatch units, when they were exterminatused 😭.
The Watch might not have ended after all! I made a DW army at the beginning of 9th due to their lore. Loved being able to personalize each model based on their chapter and converting chapter specific models to DW characters.
I think it was to gauge the fanbase to see how they respond to maybe Necrons as DLC for Space Marine 2 because in this animation, they only do things that players can do in the game complete with executions.
What does this mean for the existing Agents players though? If units are removed from the current Agents lineup, what's going to replace them for the handful of people actually playing the faction?
I hope they release a free Deathwatch supplement or codex like what they did for the Ironjaws, Darkoath, Beasts of Chaos, Stormcasts, and Bonesplitterz in Age of Sigmar
I didn't know they weren't in table top anymore as I'm new to 40k 1 year. However someone like my self seeing this and have played the he'll out of space marines 2. I know the devs said they can't add armor form when titus was in the DW because that would not be lore accurate with primaris marines ( GW Didn't give them the green light). That being said you showed there reply as they said "games" I know there's a high demand 4 more cosmetics of the Death Watch as it seems like they gave players half of what should have been. This may have played its part to why. That's just me tho.
What does this mean? it looks similar (to me) to space marine 2 game play photage, I'd love to see something like this as an expansion for sm2 -- death watch vrs necrons -- with titus being the death watch part as far as the connections to sm2 is concerned. whether as a set of memories before the events of space marine 2 as a prolog or as a kind of new expansion set after it as a sequel -- I'd love to see more sm2 content
I'm not big up on the lore but... A group of 3, all Primaris, fighting a hidden enemy that showed up briefly but has yet to do anything and closely following three classes almost like a certain new video game encourages... Might be DLC for SM2... Or at least a few different forms of media such as the game, new tabletop codex's and parts and then probably adding them in Tacticus and maybe even the kill teams or whatever that is.
The twist being the rules are just legends for all the Deathwatch units they binned. Boggles the mind that a company can be so backward as to kill an army with one hand whilst paying a studio a bag of cash and months of time with the other. It does not inspire confidence.
It displayed Bandai Namco and SAFEHOUSE (a company that does CGI/cinematics for various media/entertainment genres). My guess, a video game. However, is the game going to be good? What kind of video game? We just got space marine 2. Is it a mobile offering? Hopefully not.
gonna ask a thought provoking question here, why would crimson fist and or the black templars stare at a statue of guili, i think you need to re look at who that statue is. check back and see who both the black templars and crimson fist come from, bc not only are they not first borns, they are successor chapters...... you know from the imperial fist..........That is deff Daddy Dorn

Deathwatch squads usually are between 5-10 Marines from different Chapters.
Now heres a video game in the making how amazing would that be, the range of enermies weapons combinations of battle brothers, tactics back stories
The twist being the rules are just legends for all the Deathwatch units they binned. Boggles the mind that a company can be so backward as to kill an army with one hand whilst paying a studio a bag of cash and months of time with the other. It does not inspire confidence.
I loved the animation, a brilliant depiction of a well oiled killing machine!
I really hope they bring back proper kill teams with bikes, jump packs etc
40k is such a amazing iP it’s the lack of visual/digital media over the years is criminal
And so the Death Watch players rejoiced in cheer, all 3 of their voices ringing through the halls in happiness
Can't believe Valrak rooted for the Necrons
It displayed Bandai Namco and SAFEHOUSE (a company that does CGI/cinematics for various media/entertainment genres). My guess, a video game. However, is the game going to be good? What kind of video game? We just got space marine 2. Is it a mobile offering? Hopefully not.
Was the Deathguard guy at the end a 4th member? Raven Guard also?
gonna ask a thought provoking question here, why would crimson fist and or the black templars stare at a statue of guili, i think you need to re look at who that statue is. check back and see who both the black templars and crimson fist come from, bc not only are they not first borns, they are successor chapters...... you know from the imperial fist..........That is deff Daddy Dorn
