I love these old federation houses in Ad, my grandparents lived in a house like this and its heartbreaking to see them being torn down for ugly replacements
Yeah I like the corner bricks, they sure had a way with building houses in the day. Pity it's all destined for the trash heap. There are so many keepables in that house which I am sure they will trash. All those iron trims on the front verandy, I hope they keep them. They would be worth a mint.
Another wonderful old house bites the dust. The wooden floors and ceiling are, were, great looking! Love the front door with the stained glass. So sad. Thank you for doing these videos of old homes before they are gone forever.
Another one bites the dust. Is it strange to say that watching your uploads especially lately gives me a sense of calm like peace of mind? Maybe its the birds chirping happily amongst the overgrown vegetation, the lack of humans, a beautiful old home, i'm not sure but I appreciate your efforts. Keep up your great work.
Gene you just explained exactly why I love finding and exploring these homes! :-) It is very calm and usually peaceful apart from some traffic noise on the busier roads. Glad you feel the same watching :-)
Beautiful old place. I had some "thoughts" about the stained glass in the front door. Hehehe! I'm sure it was a beauty when it was new. I wish it could be saved and not destroyed. Thanks for sharing my friend.
The "gingerbread" trim around the front porch is beautiful. I hope they salvage that along with the stained glass. This was once a gorgeous house but looking at the cracks on the walls I don't think it was fixable. Thanks for getting it documented. Take care, stay healthy and have a good week.
Lovely house with some stunning features. So I did a google search on the fridge and it looks to be a 1940s or 1950s model. Apparently Mr Leonard started to make fridges in the late 1800s. I was going to say that the house has alot of late 1800s features like the tongue and groove and the beautiful stained glass on the front door. What a cosy little home. Shame it was going to be knocked down. Thanks Paul
So sad to see this beautiful home be destroyed. I love the front with all the wooden detail above the porch as well as inside when you come in the front door. Such a shame. Love your walk through videos. Thank you for sharing.
I just got back from work, and is the first thing I did ,watch this video of another beautiful home ,I feel in love with these homes when I come here and I hate to see them going for modern things, thanks for another great video have a great weekend Paul 🤗 from a Frenchy in Australia 🇫🇷🇦🇺💝
Fantastic...every place of the house is telling us a story . How the residents could leave such beautiful houses behind which out of control situations forced them to leave.....who can tell??? Nobody 😫these abandoned houses are broken my heart💔
What a charming little villa! It’s too bad that they are all being demolished, even if there is an abundance of them. Each one in your videos is unique and special. I so enjoy seeing these Aussie charmers! Thanks for the hours of enjoyment I get from you!😘
Wow what a place. That fridge, I looked at similar ones dating back to the 1940' s. I love the little wood details on the porch and hallway too. Nice find ❤
This is a gorgeous old place with many great memories of a bygone era. I’m so glad you were able make this video before the demolition. Thank you for sharing and providing information about this house.
Thank you Urbex Indigo for sharing this explore of a charming old Symmetrical cottage and It is such a pity that it ended up with severe cracking and to then be demolished. What a sad waste of a charming old home that added to the characteristic of the tree lined older Adelaide suburbs. The Symmetrical cottages were built between 1860-1915. If the home was restumped in time, might have been saved from the increased cracking. The front facade is stunning with the mixture of lime stone and quoining architecture. Also, it appears there were added renovations at the back of the property around mid to late 1980s or early 1990s. The Austrian curtain that was in one of the rooms, they became very popular again in the late 1980s-1990s. I used to make the Austrian curtains for a couple of my own homes. The vintage 1950s fridge was a great find and is a Leonard. A fridge similar is selling for $400.
Hey Julz! :-) Thanks for watching and the info! Yep love the Victorian and federation cottages and villas! Shame the cracks were too many in the end it seemed. Have my eye on a few more of these oldies, and a couple still to upload. :-)
What a beautiful home this must have been. I do so love the Gingerbread decoration on the front porch. I also love the style of the stones outside. The interior was pretty as well. I always try to figure out how these homes were before updates and additions were done. This one was fairly easy. Loved the arch-type carving in the hallway and the old mantle marks we could see. There were some lovely fireplace tiles as well. The stained glass always makes me smile. It's always so pretty and formal. Thanks for another record of a lovely old home before its demise.
I saw the Stobbie pole and thought BRILLIANT another South Australian amazing house. They are so stylish, very grand for a family home. The leonard fridge made in America would be from 1940-50's The one I had was rounded at the top. One year for their birthday when I had no money I painted it up like a jukebox, looked great.
What a lovely old home, this is one I could’ve lived it, especially loved the bird song when you started filming. Such a shame, I know it had a few problems but when you think of what’s going to be built instead! Thanks for another great video xxx
I love how there is a fire place in nearly every room! Imagine trying to keep the wood up to them all to keep the house warm. (When this house was built, the owners obviously had $ bc it is so big, they would probably have had a maid or housekeeper to keep the fires going. Imagine the wood you’d go through though!)
It certainly looks like this old place has suffered with ongoing subsidence issues for decades. I would assume that is what has now determined its fate. A wonderful explore, thanks for sharing it with us. All the best from Buenos Aires. 👍👍
Another lovely home a lot of sunshine in this one and beautiful birds outside. Looks like this home would tell many happy memories if it could talk, how we'd all wish! Too bad for the foundation moving ending in those huge cracks in the wall. Had a laugh at the led light which resembled something!!! ( read other comments thank God it wasn't just me... lol!) Thanks again for another bit of history documented.
Very nice home. Love all the details, the fret work, curved iron over the veranda, stained glass, all of it. I do hope they re-purpose all the wood and details from these homes before they demolish them. I have wondered what and how much does get saved.
Such a shame that couldn't be saved but way too much subsidence. It's such a beautiful place, it still feels homely 😊 I adored the fridge and I really hope it gets rescued 😊 A fabulous find in its entirety, well caught before it's too late 😊

Hi urbex indigo. I love your beautiful blue Australian sky. And I find it interesting how we still refer to "the turn of the century" as though we were still in the 1900's. Great pool. You are so educated on your architecture. Thanks, Laura
I'm guessing 1890 to 1910 based by the shaped panels of the front door alone. In Melbourne the developers would have a hard time getting authority to demolish it totally due to the brick & stonework, cast iron lacework and the Tessellated front porch tiles. The rear extension was late 60's to mid 70's judging by the 'Weather Wall' type aircond unit, and the swimming pool is more mid 70's. The front of the house looks beautiful by its architecture and paint scheme.

Ooh, that gingerbread on the front is fabulous! Could some of that cracking been caused by earthquakes? Was that a doorbell above the stained glass? If so, unusual. I guess it would keep kids from ringing and running, ha ha.
Love your channel love seeing all these beautiful homes with the stained-glass windows and beautiful flooring and just the detail blows my mind and when you think they’re going to pull it down to build something modern just makes me really sad
Hi Taylor :-) Yep I fully agree , I could look at these homes and never get bored. It was sad driving past seeing the empty lot. Thanks for watching :-)
loved the white trim around the front porch..in the USA it's called gingerbread trim. and in the USA if you are standing at the front door and you can see the backdoor....it is called a shotgun house, they say you can fire a shotgun from the front and it will go straight thru to the back door...take care and stay well.....K$
Over here we call it "iron lace", it's typical of the Federation style from circa 1890-1920, the houses in South Australia usually have gorgeous sandstone or bluestone facades, compared to the brick or wood construction used elsewhere in Australia. Fortunately the (1918) place I am currently living in (probably one of the last years of this style) doesn't have foundation issues like the house in the video and is protected from demolition due to heritage listing.
A family must have really enjoyed this place at one time. Nice pool. But boy those cracks weren't looking so good. Loved the front entry the best. Take care Paul stay well
My mum had one of those fridges, so I would say it was a 50's to 60's. I was born in 57 and we had it when I was young. I think the hole was a wine cellar cause it was only a small room. The main bedroom was probably the original lounge room, looking at its size. Mum's house had the same wall vents in her bedroom as was in the small bedroom with the yellow curtain. All in all a nice house. One I would live in if it was ok.
Rippa old Leonard!! Plug her in and I bet she'll work 😃 that first fireplace looked cut off one side. Due to renos I bet. Another beauty headed to the scrap heap ..... It's such a shame 😑 how about those tiles in one of the front rooms. Just GORGEOUS. Another record of a Grand old Lady!
The place seems to have had a tidy & a freshen twenty years ago, nice how adaptable they were. Sweet old gingerbread trim on the front veranda. The old Fridges were so overbuilt, most of them are still operating perfectly today. A cousin of mine passed away recently, and had a 1955 Frigidare still working as a overflow in her porch. Cheers & stay safe.
Hi was a great day for your explore. Very interesting find and really surprised about this one being demolished. I have never seen brick work like this one or corner fireplaces. Also noticed the gas lights in the ceilings. There were no electrical outlets. Do you recall seeing any? They must have added some later. I hope they were able to save more of this old girl. Thanks so much for the find. P.S. I do hope they saved the fence around the pool. Amazing, looked pristine.
Lindo o detalhe da fachada do casarão bem trabalhado.... Ainda resta alguns móveis , a geladeira eh bem antiga os lustres eh fenomenal . Deixo meu like na hora 👏👏👏👏😃
This one has so much structural damage, cracks and such, that it's time has come I guess, but I love the pastel yellow throughout. It makes it seem bright and cheery. I also love the...what is it called, filigree?...on the front ironwork. Another great explore. Thanks!
So glad you were able to share this beauty! Loved the lighting, perfect time of day for the center of the house to glow with the sunlight. Front of the house was rather dark, but that didn't distract from the leaded stain glass at the door and I always love the detailed wood in the arch of the front hall. Glad there was one mantle to see. Is the detail of the front porch/veranda wood or metal? Hope that can or will be salvaged. With all the settling of the foundation I can see why this will be demolished I can't imagine where you would begin to save a building that far gone. All the more reason for this one to be saved on video!! Thanks again, really enjoyed this one, mostly the time period, but loved that light coming in. Be safe!
These old houses are so beautiful. Are there any left that not will be demolished ?? Here in Finland we try to save old houses now. I do like your videos. thank you for this one and take care.
Hi Polarbear, yes the amazing this about Adelaide is that there are a lot of old homes still standing thank goodness but it is still sad to see more and more go. :-)
Beautiful house. I like everything about it. I thought the cover you took off and put aside was to maybe a bomb shelter? You said a cellar, but I didn't see anything to put botles in. Thanks for the tour, Paul.
That old fridge was a beauty, so I’m guessing the previous inhabitants were there a long time . There couldn’t have been much in the way of soil testing for foundations or theyprobably didn’t have the means to compact the ground before construction during that period. Is it still a problem with homes built later on or only the very early ones. Seemed noisy at the start but once you move down the back it was easy to hear the bird chirping away. Nice leafy old suburb just the same . Have a great weekend mate.
Hi. the fridge is from the fifty's if the interior was Jadite Green they were rare. I thought a body was wrapped in that rug; outside the place looks small but inside it's big, didn't like the stone cladding at the front. Tfs :-)
Such a sad house ~ waiting to be taken down. In Australia, do you have businesses that can jack the homes up and back fill the foundation? It really doesn't take much to square up houses. Or are most of these homes that you film sold for demolition? I always look forward to your videos and you never fail to have a nice one. Thank you!
What causes so many of these houses to crack and separate in places ? Is it the ground they are built on or earth quakes ? It seems to be common in the houses up for demolition there.
Seems like the extension near by the kitchen seems to have been built for a full dining room most likely. Considering that the kitchen was originally smaller. Neat front patio features too. It's a shame these old, antique houses are being demolished... Modern homes just can't compete with older ones when it comes to charm and history. The renovations through the decades that this house had is like writing a chapter in your life history. Or something to that effect. The stories that these houses can tell is amazing.
Hi Tammy, it is decorative and is generally used after the arched partition from the Victorian era hallways which were more elaborate and thus more expensive. Thanks for watching :-)

@@urbexindigo5164 Thank you for your reply. I think what your doing is fantastic. It's so sad to see so much of our history forgotten or demolished for concrete boxes. These old homes were for family life, outdoor life playing under sprinklers in summer or a game of cricket. No wonder kids are depressed these days, the home environment is sterile and confining. Ooh, that gingerbread on the front is fabulous! Could some of that cracking been caused by earthquakes? Was that a doorbell above the stained glass? If so, unusual. I guess it would keep kids from ringing and running, ha ha.
Adelaide has got clay soil that is renown for subsidence unfortunately. Thanks for watching :-)
Yep all those features are typical of our earlier aussie homes Karen :-) Thanks for watching :-)
Sad to see it get demolished. You can sure see a lot of cracks happening. I love the stainless doors and ceiling design. Pretty old house for sure.
Hi Sally, thanks for watching :-)
A family must have really enjoyed this place at one time. Nice pool. But boy those cracks weren't looking so good. Loved the front entry the best. Take care Paul stay well
I definitely would have enjoyed living here Jo lol. Thanks for watching :-)
Would have been a stunner in the day, some serious cracks. Stained glass is nice, thank you for the explore :)
That fridge is from the 40's or 50's....60's they changed quite a bit.
Lovely little house 🏡❤️🇨🇦
My mum had one of those fridges, so I would say it was a 50's to 60's. I was born in 57 and we had it when I was young.
I think the hole was a wine cellar cause it was only a small room.
The main bedroom was probably the original lounge room, looking at its size.
Mum's house had the same wall vents in her bedroom as was in the small bedroom with the yellow curtain.
All in all a nice house. One I would live in if it was ok.
Thanks for watching Tis Jstme :-)
Rippa old Leonard!! Plug her in and I bet she'll work 😃 that first fireplace looked cut off one side. Due to renos I bet. Another beauty headed to the scrap heap ..... It's such a shame 😑 how about those tiles in one of the front rooms. Just GORGEOUS. Another record of a Grand old Lady!
Hey Frankie yep the fridge would def work another 50 years probably :-) Thanks for watching :-)
nice one Paul ..another bathroom with the floor drain...keep them comin bro
Cheers mate! glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching :-)
Nice place at least you got it on video.
Another lovely house, thanks so much. Can't help wondering how you are doing every time I watch one of your videos.
Hi Danielle :-) I`m doing well thanks, glad you enjoyed this one too, thanks for watching :-)
The secret room under the floor was cool.
Beautiful place, to bad it can't shine again. I'd turn that mantel into a headboard. ❤️
Back when companies took pride on building great products and reputation. Thanks for watching Garry :-)
There were older outlets that would have been added once electricity was avail. Thanks for watching Sharon :-)
Lindo o detalhe da fachada do casarão bem trabalhado.... Ainda resta alguns móveis , a geladeira eh bem antiga os lustres eh fenomenal . Deixo meu like na hora 👏👏👏👏😃
Hi Miriam :-) Thanks for watching
@@urbexindigo5164 unitil the next adventure
Beautiful place love the iron lace work out the front shame history lost forever
Be safe!
Hi Donelle, my pleasure for sharing :-) Thanks for watching :-)
Love the birds singing outside
Nice video. The front of the house was pretty. See ya in the next one.
Glad you enjoyed Vicki, thanks for watching :-)
Nice i bet in its day. It was pretty sweet. Thanks for the video.
Don't forget to document that lone old house in Gilles Plains/Holden Hill!
Went to check that house but it is absolutely sealed up with iron sheeting! lol
@@urbexindigo5164 To be demolished anyway.
Just getting to the comments again ow mate! Yep this one just up the road from me in Millswood next to Unley. Thanks for watching mate :-)
Oi boa noite adoro seu trabalho muito bom como pode ter tanta casa abandonada assim um ótimo trabalho 😘😘
Hi Maria, thanks for watching :-)
Shame about this home but you can see it how much damage the cracks are causing, I love the exterior design of the front.
This beautiful old home should be restored instead of being destroyed. Such a shame
The vents high on the wall near the ceiling, that was to vent out the hot air right? Could they also be closed? Thanks, another great video!
Yep for hot air to escape. No cannot be closed, not these old ones. Thanks for watching Betsy :-)
Hi. the fridge is from the fifty's if the interior was Jadite Green they were rare. I thought a body was wrapped in that rug; outside the place looks small but inside it's big, didn't like the stone cladding at the front. Tfs :-)
I love this....if it was in my area...would buy...fix up abd live in it.
Thank you!
Yes we have those businesses Carla but it seems most just want to start again and rebuild. Glad you are enjoying the videos, thanks for watching :-)
What causes so many of these houses to crack and separate in places ? Is it the ground they are built on or earth quakes ? It seems to be common in the houses up for demolition there.
Mainly due to the clay soil here in Adelaide. Caused a lot of prob for these older homes. Thanks for watching :-)
Yeah I agree dining and living room prob, thanks for watching :-)
Just lovely. Should not have painted the tongue in groove. Goodbye old girl. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed Debra, thanks for watching :-)
What is the purpose of what looks like a gate on the ceiling in the hallway?just wondering
Hi Tammy, it is decorative and is generally used after the arched partition from the Victorian era hallways which were more elaborate and thus more expensive. Thanks for watching :-)
Can u explain why alot of the homes have doors 2 outside in the bathroom?🤔
Hi Tracy, hmmm not sure, this house definitely did though :-) Thanks for watching
Hi I've just found your channel and immediately subscribed. I love watching abandoned videos but as I live in adelaide, I love that your videos are all Australian. I know u can't give locations but are all of your videos locations in south Australia? If not could you perhaps put which state each location is. Just a thought. But love your channel
Hi Linda! Welcome to the channel :-) Yes most are in Adelaide, the ones in the suburbs are definitely in Adelaide and most of the Country ones are in Victoria. Many more to come, thanks for watching :-)
Your videos are so interesting because of the information you give about the architecture, fixtures, era etc etc. I'm always learning stuff and thinking.. "So that's what that thing is called" . Lol..Anyway, Thank you for caring enough to do what you do and for keeping our history alive.
