Wow. It's been a long time since I've seen Windows 98.
I forgot how professional, and adult it looks.
Using Windows 7 now feels kind of dumbed down in comparison, with all it's shiny clear pretty windows, and dialog messages written as if aimed at children.
Back then, there was no "Whoops! something went wrong!". If an error occurred you were told the facts and that was it... "Error 53. File 'LbBrwsr.dll' not found. Click 'OK' to terminate the program." and that was it.
And yet still, when I tried to teach a senior friend how to manually transfer her phone pictures with Explorer in Windows 10, I eventually gave up and installed Picasa. We did get the manual process written down, but there were far too many steps and potential for mistakes.
I could have installed Xplorer2 instead. I wonder why MS tries to make everything excessively user-friendly while refusing to make basic improvements to Windows Explorer.
Computer technology is a lot more mainstream now though.

The Sims 3 had so much content that the developers worked less on optimizing the game to reduce lag and increase performance, so about when the island paradise expansion pack for the game came out, it was laggy as bloody hell. When The Sims 4 came out, the performance was good but it lacked in content. Hopefully, The Sims 5 will have much content and great performance, or the 64 bit update mod for the sims 3 for mac users could fix the lag.

@@cryptonite4258 Nah, minecraft (without mods in singleplayer) basically just eats around 512mb of ram.
And pc newer than xp and most xp machines have this avaiable. No matter how much ram the Os consumes if it has something like 512mb free it should run fine.
Probably the biggest issue is that most modern laptops have shitty integrated graphics and usually people dont cranck the graphical settings all down in the game.
Also, many if not all non hq laptops nowdays power/current/thermal throttle wich makes their cpus slow down quite a bit (sometimes even to 800mhz).
Not only that but also the older machine was running a older version of java wich is more compatible with the older and lighter version of minecraft.
With windows 10 there is also another problem, all the resource hogs such as defender wich makes the disk, processor, and even ram usage at 100%.
the windows version doesn't matter...
This bring tears to my eyes, especially when he said 'It's working!'.

The fact that there is a message to warn people with old graphics cards is still cool to me now. It’s also really strange how the limited colours of Windows 98 affects some of Minecraft, but not all of it.

AMD Athlon XP is a cpu made for Windows XP, so it is slightly newer.
AMD Athlon eXtended Performance officially, but a reference to Windows XP unofficially. Socket 462 systems can actually run Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 (and probably NT3.x and NT4 as well), DOS, Linux, and with the 350MHz AMD / 2.1GHz Intel CPU patch, even Windows 95! "Newer" hardware was used for this because Minecraft was never going to run on a 90s machine

fun fact: the main reason for compatibility errors is that windows 9x uses the DOS kernel while all Windows versions after 9x use Windows NT, which have two different executable formats.
I'm not an expert, correct me if I'm wrong, but all Windows versions 95/NT4 and above all use the same PE executable format, in 32 bit anyway.
The incompatibility is from missing DLLs and missing system programs and missing functions on Win 98

A bowl of Miso soup If the machines are just being used as a Point of Sale system, connected only to an internal database of products, it is easier to stay on the older OS than buying new computers, as if the software is incompatible with newer versions of Windows, a database transition and mass hardware upgrades can be very expensive, just to say they are on the latest version of Windows.
Maybe it's not their fault and the business is too lazy to change the computers/os

Similar to getting Minecraft to run on the computers at school in 2010, had to install optifine and turn everything down but got it working on the dell workstations. Put that build on everyone's flash drive in computer science class and we had LAN parties after lessons, fun times.

I thought I had the worst condition but no,I get 50-90 fps good thing that mine runs on 60 fps and then when I try really low graphics settings then it runs on 400 fps my laptop's specs are good as my laptop runs many heavy games like cs:go and gta 5 (gta 5 and cs:go were pirated so I later deleted them but they ran smoothly)

MS-DOS, Microsoft Dynamic Operating System. DOS (short for MS-DOS, or so I've always presumed) is in (or part of) Windows 98 (and 95, 2000, and even XP, but was phased out in 7 by ways I don't understand... something to do with the kernal and it leaving the NT something or other? I don't know xD). MS-DOS, as a stand-alone operating system, has no GUI (guided user interface) or, hell, even any user interface, unless you run a DOS program which has one. MS-DOS is typically understand, AFAIK, as basically a command-line interface used to communicate with the system to run files on it, and manage the OS and the files and folders. If you're curious, try DOSBox for a pretty good taste of what it was like for us oldies back in the day. :)
I remember the days of editing the autoexec.bat file with MS-DOS comments to tweak Windows 95 and 98/SE. Good times. I will also never forget using a floppy disk to get into the command prompt so I could run fdisk, a utility ran within MS-DOS that allowed you to set drive partitions and what-not. I vaguely remember the first time I messed around in it, I screwed everything up and had to reinstall Windows, losing plenty of data in the process. No doubt this happened a few times. This was long before I ever had the Interent, so I went almost entirely by trial and error. :D Back then, I was the age that a lot of you reading this probably are.
