Tip for super cooling a standard cooler. If a Yeti is out of your price range or you are going to be in areas where a Yeti would attract attention or get stolen, you can super chill a standard cooler with a couple things from the hardware store. Most coolers have insulation on the sides, but the lid is hollow. You lose a lot of cold through the lid. Pick a cooler that you can pop the lid off. Drill two small holes in the back of the lid where the lid attaches to the cooler. Get a can of Great Stuff expanding foam. You may or may not need a whole can, so plan this project with a friend to do their cooler or fill any gaps around the house with the leftovers. It's just hard to reopen the can after you've used it once. Do this outside and have newspaper or paper bags to lay under the lid if needed. Insert the straw and spray the foam slowly into one hole just until it starts to come out the other. This foam will expand to fill the whole lid. Let it cure overnight and there should be a bubble of foam over the holes if you did it right. Trim the excess off and clean up the outside. This is why you don't want to drill holes in the inside of the cooler where your food will be exposed to it - it's impossible to seal it up at this point. So pick a spot in the back that's easily concealed. While you wait for the lid to dry, you need some Reflectix bubble foil and foil tape. Measure and cut a liner with a fold over lid that fits perfectly into the cooler. Basically you are going for a flat fold box type shape with the corners cut out. Use those to do covers for your small windows! Use the foil tape to put the liner together inside the cooler so it fits perfectly. Then pull it out and do the tape over the seams on the outside. So with the liner in place and the foam filled lid, I've had ice last days longer than just the cooler alone. You can pull it out to rinse it off and the liner won't absorb water. I pull mine out of the cooler every few days to let the cooler air out. I hope someone finds this helpful.
The air gap in the lid is a better insulator than the foam you are shoving in the lid. This has been proven time and time again by UA-camrs. It is unfortunate that this is the top comment.

Nikki, If I may give you one little trick, easy affordable how to have hot water on the road as long you are in warm climate. I saw that your roof top as a lot of space available for you.Taking a black PVC 5 inch pipe of around 5 to 6 feet with two end cap install a tire valve in one end and a faucet on the other, do not forget also in one of the end to install a other faucet to refill the water. The black pipe as you travel will warm up the water into the pipe, using your little compressor pressurize the pipe 10 to maybe 20 pound (experiment) at all time you will have warm to how water that whit a quick disconnect be equip from a shower head to a hose to your bucket to clean dishes. It should not be expensive to fabricated and could be easily attach to you car rack and voila. If it is something you would like to make just had a reply to this post and I will draw the instruction for you to easily make it... I hope this could help you in the wounder full life you have chosen to have with Camper. The entire cost of the build should should not cost maybe $30.00 using you tire compressor you already have... Hoo you could have two of them one drinking water and one wash but after a little wild the water will taste plastic so make sure to refill regularly... Good trip and will look to se if you replay to some sort a way post on my youtube how to do it for you and anyone who would be interested Thanks

@@NikkiDelventhal Question for you: I’m leaving in a month to live out of my car. What kind of legal stuff do you have to do first? Like where does your mail go? What address is on your ID, your parents? @
All those things are good to have, me being prior service and being a Field Sanitation NCO. I learned a lot about "leaving no traces," when it goes to digging soakage pits and other things when out in the field. I'm starting my car journey in December, yeah it's crazy that I'm starting out in a cold month lol.
I have seen online some people use a special type of tent (can't remember what it's called) that they attach to the back of their car when opening the boot giving them more space at the back when stopping. It also looks really cool from the inside.

Great video. Doing this with my honda civic hatchback. Got a foldable memory foam mattress so when I use my tent i can also use it for that. Never have done this yet, going to take a nap at a rest area on my way to West Virginia then use my tent for 3 nights and then may try it again on the way home at a river side hipcamp.
My "favorite" video of the year. Your vulnerability in being open about this journey has been pretty eye catching to say the least. Best of luck in your nature quest :)

Yay! Guitar in tow! i sing so campfires! Outer Banks of NC first to reflect and plan my adventures west. You are an inspiration! 🇺🇸
I had a work truck that I had to pull 5 items out to get to one, so I bought a trailer.. 5x10 box work trailer is $3000 new with plenty of room.. I could mount a woodstove, have indoor bath, kitchen and be able to stand up..But I still use it for work - for now !
Instead of a duffle, I use latching footlocker style tool boxes. They compress my folded clothes and people think they're ironed out something. I set my mattress diagonal to first, fit, second to balance the driving load. Picked up a great set at Walmart made by hart for like 120$. Doubles as a table for one, and a shelf for the other

Good stuff and advise, looks pretty comfy to me!! One thing you mentioned but is important based on other video's i've watched is a quality tire repair kit. Kit's from wally world can work, better one's with metal handles on the jungle store as well book sized air compressors are much better(save some coin), i don't venture anywhere too far without them. That being said, if the car I'm driving has issues, I'm dead! :)) Great to see you again Nikki dear!
@@user70331 thanks for the tip Alex!!
I agree with Alex, some road side assistance will be great but also everyone has to learn somewhere! So when you see trouble pay attention so next time you know what to do! That’s how I learned!:-)
@@NikkiDelventhal thanks Nikki for your tip! I need to man up a bit :)
Been in 90s and 100 for many days in metro Colorado but very little humidity!!!! Great you are the repair woman!! Many men are helpless with some stuff
Been doing the truck/SUV/RV/car camping thing for years and have always brought backpacking an LNT ethics to that life. It takes a lot to get me to sub to a new channel but love your enthusiasm, presentation and passion. I did a video here last year that was a Ford Fiesta camper conversion that served me and my two BCs well for almost two years in the UK. Only just upgraded to a VW Touran (fixed bed) but love it. Car camper life is very unique and takes a certainly mentality.
Thank you!!!!🥰❤️🙏🏻
I'm on my 2nd month of living in a 2004 Prius with solar, and an electric cooking setup. I LOVE it!! Thanks for showing your setup. 😁👍
How’s it going now that it’s winter?

Very well equipped! Well done!! Aside from being a veteran I've always been a naturalist. living as close to a natural life as I can. And being one with and connecting to nature as often as possible! You got a nice setup. And of course Any good on outdoors person is will be revising re-revising all the time. I'm impressed!
You don’t eat raw meat tho
I love "delving" into your life Nikki. To me, you are perfection!
Hello Nikki.I did the same 2 weeks ago in the French central mountains in a rainysummer .I got asked to come.I want to thank you for your joy, your sense of teaching and for showing places I will never see any more.have a great day.
Nikki, your video is 3+ years old... but it's still helping people today. Thank you very much for taking the time to create it, and to give us all of your helpful tips. (I lost track of the number of times you used the word "game changer.")
P.S. I'm not a car camper... but I might be one some day. It looks like a lot of fun. Note: I do have one thing already, that you mentioned; I love my AeroPress coffee maker!
An amazing amount of stuff!
I travel around the country on my motorcycle and I love to pack as simple as possible. I stay in motels so it's easy to do, but less is more and most all motels have laundromats. You sure have a great outlook on life. Doing what you love!
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm presently living out of my PT Cruiser after a humiliatingly bad relationship breakup. I used to travel in a van. Now I'm in the city until I can get out of debt and, hopefully, start traveling again. Some of your ideas are very helpful. Thank you. Cute doggy, too, BTW. 😉
Love how you discuss safety first before the main topic. Especially the car emergency!! Yes its the little things that can be over looked.
BEST LIST EEEEVVVVEEERRR! thanks so much. I'm a semi retired wanderluster! I've been traveling full time for over 3 years via house sitting but after recently completing a short Camino de Santiago, I want more hiking/camping experiences. I am still in the process of converting my old utility trailer into a camper when I visit my son and family in Florida. I am also minimalizing. I no longer keep a place of my own.....why pay for a place I am never in? My daughter calls me fabulously homeless. I love it You are a true inspiration! Can't wait o buy and try out some of your stuff. "Trust your journey" and "live a great story!"....as you are! Abrazos!
This is awesome because I don't have that car, but I needed EVERYTHING and you cover it ALL!! Yay!!
The captions on the video brought me here. Beauty and brains. Wow!!. Great content to
Some of these tips are genuinely so incredibly nifty, thank you so much for this video.
I didn't know that about coolers. Thank you so much!!!
Also, I think our next time car camping will go much better than the first!! We took couch cushions to put behind the seats for our heads... It was awful and they took up so much room. Thank you for this awesome video!!!
Hahaha that new intro animation is AMAZING!!!! Love it!
Thank you!!!!
@@NikkiDelventhal Did you do the no build setup in your mom's Prius just as an example? Or have you, and your trips with them, been an inspiration for your folks to take a few trips themselves?
Sending hugs to Europe 🤗 I can't even imagine how much you must be missing Camper right now, sure you can't wait to see him again 🥰
Mom is gonna join me in her Prius this fall! Wahoo!!!! Europe has been amazing! Thank you!!!

This Kid is so organized that she could live in a boot box, I think. That is the key, organize. If you need lessons as Nikki or Camper, they will set your right. Good job young un.
Thank you!!!!
I’ve been road tripping and camping out of my Prius more here lately. I Love it. Great video and good information but you really had me when you stressed the no trace principles!
The best video I found to show me the essentials. No nonsense. Pratical, easy and important. Thank you so much. I just did not find the info on your backpack and something else I can not remember now. I am going to check your Amazon page again.
That was very good. Lots of info. No time wasting. "cuteness " Thank you
Thanks for sharing your experience. My 2002 Honda Crv was looking like your before pictures with a mess of stuff. . My goal is to not overpack , but include the essentials and have fun. I really enjoy kayaking and camping and your tips will really help when I hit the road. You are really cool. Be safe and have a blast .
Your the 1st person I've watched that have mentioned the essentials as far as car emergencies go! Subscribed!
I love how honest, simple, and no-frills this is. And you're fab too ^_^

Nikki, is UNIQUE and ORIGINAL, I love this brave woman.
Just got my Ford Focus hatchback an hour ago and then I see my favorite traveler posted a video🥲
Congrats! Thank you!!!!
Love Nikki. Hoping you video your entire trip for work Nikki. You give me calm in a world that has lost all reason. Thank you beautiful.
Great video. So many good smaller but important items
All those things are good to have, me being prior service and being a Field Sanitation NCO. I learned a lot about "leaving no traces," when it goes to digging soakage pits and other things when out in the field. I'm starting my car journey in December, yeah it's crazy that I'm starting out in a cold month lol.
Great advice. I bought my 2009 Prius new. 380k. No major problems. Love my Prius.
That’s amazing!
@ Jan H - that's fantastic! Bought my 2011 Prius new & currently @ 233k! Great vehicle! Watch "Car Care Nut" for Toyotas.
I have seen online some people use a special type of tent (can't remember what it's called) that they attach to the back of their car when opening the boot giving them more space at the back when stopping. It also looks really cool from the inside.
The habitent! Looks cool, For sure, but for me it was just too unsafe feeling being solo and a wide open hatch!
Hi there. It' s great for someone to see your videos related to car camper conversion ideas. It is my first time that I had the occasion to see your present video, which I would like to take a look at for more relevant details. My respect and greetings from Greece.!
Tal vez no hables nada de español pero he descubierto tus videos hace poco y estoy alucinando con el valor que tienes y tu actitud a la hora de cumplir tus sueños y propósitos. Mi admiración hacia ti. Eres grande!
I'd love to do weekend car trips where I can safely sleep in my car on the way to the destination (or even there!), and this video makes me feel so confident about going about it. You covered any questions I had and so many I didn't know I needed to be asking. Thanks for sharing and making this!
Just my thought. Weekend adventures. That's all I need.
Like the new intro. Very 70s retro sitcom. Love it
You are such a great help and you are a gorgeous young lady and thank you for making this old mans eyes happy
This was an awesome video. Your set up now looks very comfortable. Lots of great tips and info.
Super awesome, so many people ignore important details like tire inflations kit and the ability to jump start yourself.
Great video, I travel full time and have learned to keep my batteries out of my headlamp until I need them. In the past they have coroded in the headlamp. I do keep everything together in a ziiplock and my EDC bag.
I have a twin XL mattress from Purple in my rig. It's amazing
I'm here a year late, but I just bought the ust sleeping pad as well and it is INCREDIBLE! Love seeing it here!!
Nikki,hi👋👋. I highly recommend you get roadside assistance. I only pay $7mo and they: change flats, deliver gas if you run out, open your car if 🔒out. Well worth it. Btw great vid and looking 👌 as always.
I have it! Very smart! ;-) though I do recommend having basic knowledge and a plan for off grid as many times they will not meet you down a dirt road LOL WOOF!

I slept in my 4 door jeep wrangler for two years....slept in a hammock on the inside of the jeep. Shit is actually super easy to set up in a jeep and I can go anywhere in the mountains.
Wow!!! You are GORGEOUS!!! I just "autoplay-stumbled" upon this video after watching the content of the equally gorgeous, Christian Schaffer. There's ANOTHER knockout... the one with the beautiful magenta locks. I'm 72 and just want to do short sorties. I've imagined building a "no build" such as this and you've filled in all the blanks. Thanks- OH, my 75-pound dog, Skeeter, looks a lot like Camper(?). ;-)

I got some great ideas to put some work into my hatchback...im gonna make a new car camping rig.... Thank you Nikki...
Highly informative vid! Thank you, Nikki! I went with a new-to-me low mileage '19 Honda HR-V EX-L (ditched the old car) and just got my 4" foam mattress, recently retired, late Fall I will be starting my nomadic journeys, no home base any longer! Yay! Guitar in tow! i sing so campfires! Outer Banks of NC first to reflect and plan my adventures west. You are an inspiration! 🇺🇸
Loved all the little do-dads especially the head net!
I prefer Flour sack towels over microfiber because there even more compact & work BTW the bungee cord for drying is such a good idea!!
Omg THANK YOU SO MUCH! I saw this few months ago n saved it cuz my friend wants to do this. I just sent him the video to help him convert
Nikki, great presentation many thanks to you and camper !!!!!
I had a work truck that I had to pull 5 items out to get to one, so I bought a trailer..
5x10 box work trailer is $3000 new with plenty of room..
I could mount a woodstove, have indoor bath, kitchen and be able to stand up..But I still use it for work - for now !
Its amazing how your setup for 🏕 in your little car🙏bless you and the 🐕
Instead of a duffle, I use latching footlocker style tool boxes. They compress my folded clothes and people think they're ironed out something. I set my mattress diagonal to first, fit, second to balance the driving load. Picked up a great set at Walmart made by hart for like 120$. Doubles as a table for one, and a shelf for the other

Been watching for 3 weeks. ❤ your videos.
Yay thank you!!!
Thanks so much for sharing, Cheers, Happy Trails!
