"Who played the Master?" "Oh! The guy....he's a brilliant actor, he's a really good actor--" "No, it was Eric Roberts." The faces.....that's great, man.
Watching this today, just as Jenna is leaving, so much has changed. Her name for one, plus she's matured quite a bit just over 3 1/2 years. She's definitely probably closer to the nerd end of the fan scale now I would think. it's funny watching Matt lord it over her because two years earlier HE was the one had to take a crash course in all things Who and become an instant expert.
I was a little surprised when I first learned Coleman is so new to watching Doctor Who, but it doesn't bother me. I think her work on the show thus far has been excellent, and that's the important thing. And I do believe she genuinely loves the show and is doing her best to brush up on its history - she just wasn't exposed to it as early as some.
1:41 "I mean we can get nerdy on it. If...if you want to." The way Matt says it! It's all awkward, like he's asking her to sleep with him or something. XD I love the pair of them.
It's good that David Tennant was a huge fan of Doctor Who because Tennant NEEDED to be the Doctor. He had to share the experiences, stories, and pain that all the others went through; which is a huge factor towards his amazing portrayal of the Doctor. But Jenna, on the other hand, is a new character. All these things are completely new and foreign to her. If she had experienced all these things through watching the show before, her acting might be influenced to be like other companions.
Are you flippin' kidding me?! They're great friends and this video is more than enough proof of that. Jenna wouldn't even have been cast if they weren't. In case you don't know, the original actress who cast as Sarah Jane was fired because she had no real chemistry with Jon Pertwee.
Thank you. I don't know why, but I always have gotten those two mixed up, no matter what role I would be talking about. Even after I don't know how many times I have been told that.
its funny how much matt knows about doctor who being that he openly admitted that when he got accepted as the role of the 11th doctor he had never even seen any doctor who XD
Am I the only one who thinks someone who is a fan of Doctor Who could make just as good of a companion as someone who knows nothing about it? They could certainly bring their passion for the show into it.
I think they're just talking about being a companion. Being a huge doctor who fan like Tennant was/is , in my opinion, is what helped become that much more accustomed to the role of playing the Doctor. So in other words: Not knowing much helps being a better, more relatible, companion Knowing a lot helps being a better, more believable, Doctor
Rory was also a HUGE fan, when he was asked what his favorite who monster was he said Cyberman without missing a beat and named which incarnation and episode. But hey judge the actors on their acting and remember Tate on Never Mind the Buzzcocks?
I think it's more important for the actors playing the Doctors to be fans, because then they know how to act as though they've lived through THOUSANDS of years of love and loss. However, I think the companions are excused sometimes if they aren't original fans because then they can approach it with the awe and fascination that a companion to the Doctor would. If that makes sense...
Good point but David was also lead in Hamlet with the RSC. An actor of his calibre could play their own grandmother without baggage. On that note, if you've not seen his episode on Shakespeare Uncovered it's great! You can find it on Dailymotion (would post link but YT doesn't allow it :( - and especially not to a rival vid site I suppose!)
True, but that why Moffaft choose Jenna because she new to the who-experience and she gives off that new companion feel to it. She said so in the Nerdist Podcast Interview
This is you: "I'll quit New Who. But instead of dropping the franchise, I'll still watch every single episode and complain about it incessantly." It's OK. I understand you. Pretzels.
I like the fact that Jenna isn't a fan, a fan-actor isn't going to be able to approach their character on their own terms rather than in the context of a vast mythos. Knowing too much about the show can be more of a hindrance than help.
I do too, I don't know every answer to every Doctor Who question and I consider myself a fan of the series. Some of the hardcore fans of the show don't seem to get that you don't have to know everything about it or like every season of the show to be a true fan of it. I never liked Doctor Who until they introduced Matt Smith as the Doctor. Then I started to like it even thou so far I'm only a fan of the seasons were Matt Smith is the Doctor so far. Jenna is so beautiful & such a great actress.
I think it doesn't matter if you are a fan or not of the franchise. It all works, Tennant, Smith are fine Doctors. It's the enthusiam in the job that matters and both love their job to death.
Okay, the question "Who played The Master" is kinda unfair. It doesn't specify which regeneration of The Master he is talking about. I started watching in 2007 and immediately Simon Pegg came to mind because he was my first Master.
And that's the point, fundamentally it's about the actor. Looking at some of the replies you'd think I'd said they should only be casting people who'd never even heard of the show lol! The Whoniverse is a big place and easy to get lost in, that's why we love it, and the actors all grow to love it too. But ultimately you want them to have some degree of professional detachment, like, well...a doctor.
I do have to say, to have the general limited knowledge a companion does, not knowing's probably better but the doctor might need to know some background :/ hilarious interview! can't stop watching!!
I think it was a play on words, Eric played the Master which is obviously evil and they said he was a GOOD actor. I believe they were laughing at that more then implying he was not a good actor and being sarcastic.
They didn't die... I can't give any "spoilers" or anything like that here... But I'm fairly positive that I know they didn't get killed... They're just separated from the Doctor now... If you forgot or want to know why then sorry... You need to see Episode 5 from series 7.1 (No "Spoiling")
"Who played the Master?"
"Oh! The guy....he's a brilliant actor, he's a really good actor--"
"No, it was Eric Roberts."
The faces.....that's great, man.
Well, Jenna did fall in love with the show after only one episode so that's enough passion there. Plus, she did say she's becoming a nerd.
OMG THEY"RE SO CUTE TOGETHER!!!
I love the smile on his face when he's like, "Troughton, is the second Doctor." he looks so pleased with himself
"We can get nerdy...if you want...," Hmm...I smell a meaning behing that, Matt ;) x
do you know what's cute
the way she'll look at him SO intently and then when he looks at her she'll look away amg
Matt Smith saying the words: "Troughton" and "McGann" just makes him much more awesome.
Matt Smith will ALWAYS be my Doctor.
"No, he's Eric Roberts" XD

I love the pair of them.

Matt and Karen have a playful, loving relationship, they were best friends
Matt and Jenna have much more of a professional relationship it seems.
"I mean we can get nerdy on it, if you want to"
10 years later, people are in fact still in love with them
Wow. Jenna Louise-Coleman is breathtaking.
It's good that David Tennant was a huge fan of Doctor Who because Tennant NEEDED to be the Doctor. He had to share the experiences, stories, and pain that all the others went through; which is a huge factor towards his amazing portrayal of the Doctor.

She has such a girl next door look. I love that :D
He likes to tease her, he didnt mean it.
Hahaha! Funny interviewer!
"Who played the Master?"
"Ohhh! He's a really good actor.."
"No, he's Eric Roberts"
Ohmygosh they're too adorable.. especially Jenna ahh ❤⭐🦋💕
Jenna is the cutest EEE
lol i just about died when matt started quizzing her he is just as nerdy as us!!
She's adorable.
Thank you. I don't know why, but I always have gotten those two mixed up, no matter what role I would be talking about. Even after I don't know how many times I have been told that.
its funny how much matt knows about doctor who being that he openly admitted that when he got accepted as the role of the 11th doctor he had never even seen any doctor who XD
can't wait to meet matt sunday :D omg im so excited
I could feel the awkwardness in the room when he says "no, it was eric roberts"
Am I the only one who thinks someone who is a fan of Doctor Who could make just as good of a companion as someone who knows nothing about it? They could certainly bring their passion for the show into it.
When they started asking Jenna the questions 😂
At the into it sounded exactly like the start of the intro to the Yogscast's "top 5" video series, and i half expected it to play that song.
I think they're just talking about being a companion. Being a huge doctor who fan like Tennant was/is , in my opinion, is what helped become that much more accustomed to the role of playing the Doctor.
So in other words:
Not knowing much helps being a better, more relatible, companion
Knowing a lot helps being a better, more believable, Doctor
"He's a brilliant actor..."
"No, he's Eric Roberts". Classic.
"The brilliant actor"
"No, its Eric Roberts"
... u rock, camera guy!!
I've been a fan since I was 5.
I'm proud of it.
I Love You Matt Smith ...... so much
Rory was also a HUGE fan, when he was asked what his favorite who monster was he said Cyberman without missing a beat and named which incarnation and episode. But hey judge the actors on their acting and remember Tate on Never Mind the Buzzcocks?
and Doctor Who IS SOOOO COMPLICATED!!!! theres 50 years of information to learn
I think it's more important for the actors playing the Doctors to be fans, because then they know how to act as though they've lived through THOUSANDS of years of love and loss. LOL. Oh, Jenna.
matt smith you are awesome at playing the 11th doctor you are the most famest doctor in doctor who
True, but that why Moffaft choose Jenna because she new to the who-experience and she gives off that new companion feel to it. She said so in the Nerdist Podcast Interview
This video makes me happy. I don't know why, but it does.
yeah, I am a MAJOR Doctor Who nerd and PROUD of it! I wear it as a badge of HONOR!
This is you: "I'll quit New Who. But instead of dropping the franchise, I'll still watch every single episode and complain about it incessantly."
It's OK. I understand you. Pretzels.
When Matt Smith goes and that is a rap I go Go Matt Smith
"Who played the Master?"
"oh, um, brilliant actor..."
"Eric Roberts"
everyone laughs
David Tennant....Biggest fan, king of the whovians...Played his role perfect.
'In how many episodes did Paul McGann appear?'
Matt, you troll!
Why does he look like he would be a history teacher
Yeah I love Matt
"in ten years time, and we're doing something else"... WE U SAY?
he's so much taller than she is. it's adorable.
I like the fact that Jenna isn't a fan, a fan-actor isn't going to be able to approach their character on their own terms rather than in the context of a vast mythos. Knowing too much about the show can be more of a hindrance than help.
i know and even on the shows credits they put the doctor as doctor who.
So true of course matt wasn't a massive fan before. now he loves it
what are these dresses called that jenna is wearing. like those that have arm sleeves and a collar
peter pan dress?
Thanks
I do too, I don't know every answer to every Doctor Who question and I consider myself a fan of the series. Jenna is so beautiful & such a great actress.
I just realized how tall Matt Smith is
Of course Matt is a fan of Troughton. You can totally tell.
I think it doesn't matter if you are a fan or not of the franchise. It all works, Tennant, Smith are fine Doctors. It's the enthusiam in the job that matters and both love their job to death.

It amuses me how Jenna uses dr who being on a break to get away with not knowing things. Also funny that Matt knows everything!
Also, Matt Smith once gave Karen a 5 out of 10 for looks, so I wouldn't say they were best friends.
Friggin' AWESOME joke!
"It was that really brilliant actor"
"No it was Eric Roberts!" xD
1:36
MATT YOU MEANIE
THATS A TRICK QUESTION
i love you
Say that to David Tennant. He was a fanboy and he did the best changes for the reboot
I dunno if anyone else felt this way, but I felt awkward for them . . .Matt is not the smoothest person. LOL. I love him
It depends most on the actor: Some could handle it, some could not.
Most actors are awful now, so it's refreshing to see good ones, fan or not.
There is only one Master; he shall always be Roger Delgado.
I do have to say, to have the general limited knowledge a companion does, not knowing's probably better but the doctor might need to know some background :/ hilarious interview! can't stop watching!!
Nailed it! :)
Who doesn't like looking at Matt...
Has Matt announced why he's leaving despite the fact he said he'd play the Doctor until at least 2014?
David Tennant was a huge fan of the show though, and he was still fun and original!
ahh how sweet
OH MY GOD GEEKING SO HARD
aw why did it end there? i wanted to see more quizzing on dr who
I knew the answers to all Matt's questions. :) & I haven't even watched hardly any of the classic series... & Which Master?
0:30 DAT LIP-BITE!
she's adorable
Matt Smith doesn't have a problem with that.
Can't believe Amy and Rory died
I actually agree with your statement. Just think about Ryan Reynolds and why he wasnt casted as Hawkeye, and instead it was giving to Jeremey Renner.
Uh, Simon Pegg never played the Master. You're thinking of Jon Simm, who looks exactly like Pegg.
I think it was a play on words, Eric played the Master which is obviously evil and they said he was a GOOD actor. I believe they were laughing at that more then implying he was not a good actor and being sarcastic.
Chris eccleston wasn't a fan and he actually played the doctor so it does work for sure :)
Nooooooooooooooooooooo Matt is cuter!!!
He's like
The cutest thing ever
Ooh, that last bit about the really good actor was funny, but a bit naughty!!
Jenna Louise-Coleman is nice but Sophie Aldred will always be my all time favourite Doctor Who totty.
They didn't die... I can't give any "spoilers" or anything like that here... But I'm fairly positive that I know they didn't get killed...
They're just separated from the Doctor now... If you forgot or want to know why then sorry... You need to see Episode 5 from series 7.1 (No "Spoiling")
Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who according to BBC after the 2013 Christmas Special... He will regenerate to the twelfth doctor
I'm answering Ll of the questions in my head and I've never seen the cllassics and I got them all right so I'm like come on Jenna
Because they were all in love with
A) Tennant
B) The 10th Doctor
:(
Too bad, Matt's an awesome Doctor!
Who wouldn't give Matt Smith the eye?
If you think Jenna and Matt are adorable together, you should see Jenna with her boyfriend( see 'Game of Thrones Season 3 premiere').
Matt is such a troll to Jenna. Who's the Master?
😂
Matt: "with who fans, they tend to still be children, dressed up."
Me: WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! YAY XD
