Vacuum sealing and moving king sized Casper mattress

- I moved across the country with my Casper bed. What seemed overwhelming at first was simply solved with a shop vac, tape, and seal-able mattress bag. Very easy, took minutes to do.
We first cleaned up the mattress then put it in the bag. We decided to add shipping tape to it on the sides to make sure it was super sealed. We cut a small hole to fit the tube of the vacuum in and tape around that. Make sure you dont tape too aggressively because youll want to get the tube out and off in a quick manor to seal it up again.
This saved me from selling my 3 month old bed. Thank you so much. Almost 1000 dollars went down the drain!!!
Just wanna say THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! I compressed my queen sized memory foam mattress all by myself using my regular-degular $35 vacuum lol! The trick for me was to tape the rolled mattress really well while the vacuum was still running and then slide it into a smaller twin sized mattress bag. Then I taped the twin sized bag really tight around the queen and it helped the queen hold it's shrunken shape for a week! I would've never even tried it if it hadn't been for this video, I still can't believe it actually worked, you guys are lifesavers!
YES! Awesome. This is exactly why I made the video because I couldnt find a solution! Glad it worked!
M. Burns yeah I need to try this I have a regular Hoover vac
So will it work with any vacuum?
I was going to ask if it could be done with a regular vacuum!
One of the few useful youtube videos I've ever come across thank you
Thanks!
Did this with a Tempurpedic king size mattress and was able to easily fit it in a 9 ft. UHaul van. it was about a 2' circumference when done. Used an industrial shopvac, took about 1/2 hr. Suggest that you roll it, tape it using duct tape, THEN remove the shopvac hose and carefully retape the hole, in that order. The mattress was rolled and taped for 2 days with no damage whatsoever to the mattress. Many thanks!
Just want to say I’ve watched this video probably 7 times and want to say thank you. Vacuum sealed a queen size Casper today. Uhaul was closed but got mattress bags from Home Depot. They had vent holes in them that we had to tape up but your process worked great! Thanks again.
Quarter Horse that's so awesome and exactly why I made this video. I was in your shoes and couldn't find any how - to :)
This is how a video should be done! To the point and fast forwarded. Thank you.
Followed your instructions.Thank you! Used shopvac. Had to roll a latex queen PlushBed and put it back on delivery box. Took a ton of brute strength to roll b/c the plastic bag around the mattress got very stiff, but we were able to squeeze and push to get it back in the 16" square opening w/ 21" diagonal 64" length box. For us, we did not master the removal of the shop vac hose from the opening, so beware it re-inflates (puffs out) w/ air quickly. Kept the shopvac running all through the rolling. All-n-all, probably deflated for 25 min, first 5 min did 90% of deflating, but had to keep trying. In the end, went from 9" (2 latex med/firm) w/ 3/4 mattress cover to 3 1/4" super stiff piece. ps.
Perfect! I’m moving in a few weeks and was worried about how the sealing uhaul bags would work. Same mattress, king size Casper. Thanks for posting
That's dope. I just bought a king setup & I can disassemble the platform & box spring I bought. (90% metal with screws) But a king mattress is not moving friendly. I figured if the manufacturer can vac seal it, that it can be done again. But they also could have some industrial sealer to make that happen. But now seeing u do it with a 20 dollar bag and a wet vac makes me feel much much better. I have seen so many ceilings, hand rails and walls destroyed by moving large mattresses. This is great. My wife & i were so worried we would destroy this appartment or the mattress when we move. Thanks.
My wife and my spine thank you! Most useful video on UA-cam!!! ✌️☺️
thank you so much for posting this! I'd been looking for a way to store my mattress for the longest time and couldn't find any good solutions! this looks perfect!
Your welcome!
This video just saved me so much stress 😭 I’ve been researching moving costs and interstate is so expensive but I can’t afford to sell my mattress and buy a new one because I won’t be able to sell it for barely anything. You are amazing ❤️
I went through the SAME thing! Hence why i made the video!! I'm glad it helped!!
This is the same exact issue we are facing! Especially because, by the time we move, our mattress will barely be a year old (poor planning on our part, lol) - how did you (elise and sarah) find your mattress was after the fact? Did it sustain any damage during the move that you realized after you arrived and unpacked it?
@@jordynnhadik6107 no it was great!! It's still the comfiest mattress :)
I just want to say I discovered your video and the process worked beautifully! I was able to roll up a full sized mattress and bungee cord everything! Of course when the air started going back in I got really scared it was going to pop, but it held up great!
Thats great! Im glad I could help! I couldnt find any videos when I moved so I'm glad it helped you!
Did the bungee cords cause permanent dents in the mattress?

One word. Wow! We have a king size Purple and you may have saved our lives
Did this work for you?!?!
Moving from Chicago to San Francisco and was worried about this! Thank you!!
This is brilliant! I am moving in a few weeks and couldn't figure out a smarter way to move the mattress. Thank you so much for sharing!
That worked a lot better than I thought it would have. Great tip, thanks!
Thanks! Yeah it turned out pretty good. I was stressing a lot but glad it worked out. And for you as well!
Great vid! 1:00 playing this back at .25 speed made me realize that humans are pure blooded engineers.
Ok this is just an amazing idea. I consider myself very handy, and this never crossed my mind. I've moved my king size foam twice now and now I decide to google easier ways. Thanks a ton.
Also love the dog!
Thanks for this comment :)
I have used regular vacuums /2 different types of Dyson's and they overheat and shut down for a while. But a shop vac that's a great idea! Thanks for the vid
HA! Awesome!! I was really stressed about moving the King size Casper, you saved me a lot of time. Thank You!
Good luck bud!
woooooo yall deserve an award for this! never would of thought to do this! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for making this video! I didn't know U-Haul had such bags. Will be attempting this tomorrow 🙂
Thanks for your advice. It helps us exactly as we expected. We tried with a Ikea queen size mattress and around 30 min vacuum it shrinks like a small piece of blanket. Thanks a lot.
Did you use normal vacuum cleaner?
The most genius thing I’ve ever seen.
I hope they have this at my local U-Haul location. When I pick up the U Haul in the morning for the new move. The last move I had to move my King size memory foam WITHOUT this bag.
Gotta return a memory foam bed and was fretting over how to get this thing back to the manufacturer....You rock!!!!
This video was so helpful!! The UHaul bag, and wet / dry vacuum was the perfect combo!! Thanks for making this video!! 🙏🏻
7 years ago… still a great idea I’m going to use
THANK YOU! I didn't know we could do it ourselves!!
Thanks for this video. Did the quality of the mattress change at all when you moved and started using it again?
I just did this with an Ikea Morgedal and it works, thank you! I recommend having a second person for the rolling part.
Awesome!
Hey thanks for the video! I just tried this and it worked like a champ!
I used the same mattress bag. Didn’t work so well. It had “breathe holes” and could not collapse completely.
Hey you!! Yes you who made and posted this video, you are wonderful, amazing and the gave us the most helpful and useful idea for moving a mattress. You have no idea how much stressed out I have been going through recently thinking about moving my mattress. THANK YOU
Well you just saved me from selling my bed! Thanks!
Im gonna be trying this out now with a Stanley vacuum. Hope it works. Im afraid my vacuum would not be able to suck all of the air.
I liked watching you guys moonwalk back and forth across the mattress when the vac was sucking the air out! 😂
Did re-vacuum packing it affect the mattress at all? Casper's website says that doing this can damage the memory foam, leave big creases, etc.
JUST did this. Worked amazing. This video saved us so much headache. Thanks!
John Doe so happy to hear this
Really appreciate this video! This worked for my Purple mattresses. However, the UHaul “retailers” only had Chateau mattress bags and they are terrible. I had to patch 30 holes because the store’s entire stock had a manufacturing defect. I found better bags at Lowes’s. The Blue Hawk mattress covers are perfect! A real UHaul store will probably have better bags but the smaller retailers may not.
Thank you so much guys.. this video helped us a lot. we rolled 14 inches king mattress..
Thank you, trying this tonight for a move on Wednessday.
Hi Sarah, you are very helpful! I am moving 8 King memory foam mattresses! Thank you sexy!!!
@Sarah E: Genius! I was curious if you can share how your Casper King has held up following the move. Also, there are more Casper mattress types today than when you posted your video. Based on your experience vacuum sealing and moving, would you try it on another mattress today?
this is SO helpful - thank you!
Nice job
What a wonderful and quick video! Thanks so much!
Haha, watching you two slide all over the mattress was the best!
This is making my move SO much easier! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I will move and and have no idea about how to move my king size mattress. Very useful!
This just saved us like $300 thank you
Did you tape around the hose of the vacume to the plastic cover where you made the hole?
wow. very cool. i wonder how well it returned to normal.
I mean, it basically turned out just fine. No lasting damages.
THANK YOU! I will try your method. Will also put the rolled/taped mattress into its original box.
Thanks Sarah, I found this video useful. Did you find the mattress was just as good after moving? Did any areas stay too compressed?
Is this Casper all foam? Or Casper hybrid? Costco sells a hybrid mattress in a box that comes in a box and I want to put it back in the box in case I need to return it
did you have to tape Shop-vac nozzle to the bag?
Overall that's still pretty good pretty manageable to move I hope I can do the same with a mattress that has Springs in it I just recently bought one from the store that already comes in a box compressed but I'm hoping when I move I'm able to shrink it back and roll it up and put it back in the box
WOW had really wanted to see this!
Best video! Easy peasy
Wooh- thanks!v
I need to do this lol. I'm moving next week and I was wondering how ima move my king size. Only had it for a year and it's still in great shape. So this way itll be easier and safer to move and lowers risk or damaging it
Huh...Didn't even know they had bags for that! Thanks!
Please help . Mine is puffy lux queen moving out of state ? And planning to use vacuum bag. do you think it'd damage it ? Have you ever tried compressing Puffy matters ? how did it go ? How long compressed mattresses should stay ?
I needed this 🙌🏾
Glad I could help, haha
Wow guys! I’m about to try this with an IKEA Hovag memory foam mattress. I’m hoping it works 🙈any tips will be welcome!
Awesome, I will try the same but with a puffy matress and its a Twin :)
Good job
Awesome love the way y’all team work
This helped quite a bit, but 1:07-1:09 played back at .25 speed is movie magic...period!
i think thats why they come in a tube of plastic so once the air is out instead of taping they just sleeve it into a pipe of whatever the bag is made of so it's got nowhere to expand too.. tape would work just use heaps of it. oh and clean your vacuum out before you do it.. dirty filter will take alot of power. clean the container clean filter. :D way more power.
The doggie is the best part!! Thank you so much for the info!
Does anyone know if this could possibly damage the mattress? Or its quality? I have a queen Casper I need to move across country. Costs an insane amount to ship. But this looks promising. I just know with vacuuming air out, you have to be careful. It can cause damage to some things.
Great job
Very helpful video but can u plz provide more info on vacuum like , did u rent it ? What is the horse power ?
Need same answer PLEASEEEE!
If you wrap it with the cellophane moving wrap it won't swell back out then tape as a backup.
Thanks for the tip!!
Hi- I have a Queen size 12 in mem foam that has to be vac sealed. What thickness was your mattress and the shop vac model you used because as i saw the mattress was really sucked very thin. Appreciate your response as i have to pack this coming week end. Thx again for the video
This might be a stupid question but do you have to use a specific type of vacuum to do this
A household vacuum may not be strong enough so a shop vac is probably best
Awesome!!! Thank you for this video
Great idea
Awesome video. I', moving soon and will try this.
I’m curious on how you maneuvered the hole…what did you close it with?
Lots and lots of duct tape! lol
What kind of vaccume cleaner we should use..please let me know.
Did anyone ask will the matress be destroyed ? how did it do when you opened it back up?
The dog is like"What happened to the mattress! 😳😳😳"
Hahah
Thanks for the great video. wish you had mentioned how long it took to vacuum it and the actual rolling process. I am sure you have the full video and why dont you post it as a 2nd part for those that want to see in more detail. Also what size bag you buy for the final packing of the rolled up mattress.. Finally after moving and redeployment did the mattress get its shape back.
Sorry, I figured speeding it up wouldnt be an issue. It really didnt take too long though, under 30 minutes. I did mention the size of the bag if you watch. After moving, the mattress returned to its normal shape and is fine.
I have a king sized nectar mattress that we'd like to move, but I'm wondering if the mattress itself will be damaged from this? Does it work like when you first bought when you move open it ?
This was a king bed from Casper. After moving (2-4 days) of it wrapped up like this, we unwrapped it and let it "rise" the same process you do out of the box. It didn't damage or alter the mattress at all :)
Not working. Did the plastic sealed it and while we got most of the air out... the plastic folds into the vacuum and not compressing it enough. Tried the trick of putting it next to the mattress only for it to get stuck on the mattress
Worked perfectly! Awesome, thank you!
I'm over here stressing out as well about moving my king size mattress all by myself. Thank you for great video! The only question I have is about vacuum. The one you are using , where I can get that one? Or can I use any other vacuum? Thank you!
Thank you for this useful insight cause i had no idea in hell how i was gonna move my cali king foam mattress by myself.
How long did it take for the vacuum to suck all the air out of the mattress?
Less than an hour
Omg thank you so Much fort the video , God bless u guys
did your mattress have coils (hybrid foam/coil), or just foam?
only foam!
Please add the link to buy the mattress bag
It was just at Uhaul...
Did you use a value?
Instead of cutting a hole, perhaps you can leave a small hole when sealing the bag? it should work the same without damaging the bag I think. But I haven't tried this myself yet. Thanks for the idea anyway!
I got a huge memory foam mattress only for my dad when he visits. Can't wait to give this a try and save a ton of space! x
That's a good point, just on the flip side of the logistical aspect, much like an air mattress when inflating/deflating, the plug is generally in the center,.. I somehow think they cut that hole in the middle of the bag to be pulling air equally from all corners of the square rather than just one, if the last bit of the sealing bag was left open. I think your suggestion makes total sense, and then thought more about why air mattresses have plugs in center. Same idea for sucking air out of a Casper. I was honestly waiting for it to just pop that tape wide open eventually but this video is very helpful!
excellent demonstration!
Thank you
Did you tried to seal the opening where the vacuum is used with clear plastic tape... so that air can't get in???
Yes! With more and more tape. We made it easy to detach the vacuum so it was a quick process.
could a normal household vacuum be strong enough for this?
I don't think so. Worth a try but I doubt it.
