Today on ROUND 2, I'm going back to A Hat in Time. It's seen a few additional chapters since my initial review, so how does the game hold up close to four years later?

Are you at your new apartment
What a greedy man you are peddling all this junk with midrolls and having twitch subs and donations. Must be nice.
@Queen Elsa This is crazy
I'm expecting a lot of dissapointment for Balan Wonderworld
I can buy the same amount of games that Johnny has reviewed with that money
Hat Kid would be the kind of person to look at a name like "Literally Can't Sink" and prove it wrong out of spite.
Well, that's exactly what she did
*SS. Literally Can't Sink*

Johnny. I'm impressed with your efforts for Gamers Outreach. Those kids in need will thank your efforts, as well as those who helped donate.
He should do the entirety of megami tensai and persona
It's worth noting that, while there's no boss in Nyakuza Metro, there is a secret miniboss called Meowjima.

Not sure if it’s possible this soon since they’re working on a new game called “Here Comes Niko!”

The thing I love about Johnny is the sense of community his fanbase has , which is understandable considering how extremely likable Johnny is , and that is without mentioning that he is an excellent and hilarious youtuber
Most certainly, I haven't met him personally, but he seems very approachable and warm.
He’s my favourite video game reviewer.

Indeed. In my opinion, probably 95% of the UA-camrs I've seen are not funny and are trying way too hard. Johnny legitimately gets me to laugh out loud several times in every video.

The sad thing is the developers are trying to improve the game with a day one patch but certain aspects of the game are fundamentally broken or just unfun (no amount of patches can fix those).
@@lynxfresh5214 Honestly, I don't hate the game. However, even with the day one patch, the game is impressively mediocre.

Better yet, we can mod it in.
Oh, that would be amazing.
The Sonic hat should've been evil.

How about Johnny's _cat?_
I can’t believe how Johnny is so underrated. He should have like 1 mil subs because of his reviews its 100x better than IGNs boring biased views. He’s also that one awesome uncle in your family that just is tons of fun and is really funny. Glad this guy exists in my life.
As HatKid dances....Balan Wonderworld looms in the distance....
What better way to wash down a great collect-a-thon platformer than with a tediously dull one
I just died laughing when it popped up
As a wise man once said...
“THIS GAME BLOWS!”
(Slam dunks into toilet)
You go from one extremely good platformer... To a rather shitty one with a tonal shift. A Hat in Time is down to earth, knowing that there's ups and downs and you just gotta live the moment. Balan Wonderworld... Another hat game... To optimistic for it's own good.
@King Slayer From what I've seen and heard I don't think it's that awful and unplayable, just mediocre and not well thought out. Sure it deserves alot of criticism but I don't think it's Bubzy levels of bad.
Poor Johnny going to Balan Wonderworld just for us
And there isn't a nigh-omnipotent smiling cat that can help him out too... :/
I am just sad that he isn’t going to review Kingdom Hearts Union Cross since it is going offline soon.

I love how much of a meme Hat Kid's tranquility dance has become! lol
Online Party Mode might make for a decent stream, but 100% Death Wish could make for its own several session series, if you're interested in suggestions for new challenge runs.
I did enjoy Hat in Time, as well as the DLC expansions (Nyakuza Metro was amazing, but f**k some of those Death Wish missions that infuriated me to no end). I likewise hope Gears For Breakfast make another game like this. Hat Kid is adorable and I would love to see her make a return someday.

Very nice art.
Don’t suppose we’ll ever get Johnny doing the Banjo-Kazooie games or Yooka-Laylee as a collection comparison to games like A Hat in Time?
The reason Yooka-laylee sucks big time is because Greg Myles was not involved and for a kickstarter game that is a big problem!!!!!!!!
@@orangeslash1667 I sincerely doubt that one person would've made the difference.

What a coincidence that I randomly stumble across Johnny talking about one of my favorite games ever, like 5 minutes after it's posted
Im so glad you finally got to cover the rest of A Hat in Time, its probably one of my most anticipated reviews. Nyakuza metro basically cemented this game as one of my recent favourite platformers
Since it usually gets buried under jokes and all, I want to again thank you for your work.

It's gonna be a total mess and i love it
"The Captain has two cigars in his mouth..." Boy those are joints
10:11- 10:12 I wonder how Selene feels about your breaking the knees of those cats Johnny?
Good stuff Johnny, I’d like to clarify some stuff though; death wish’s exclusive time rifts and the purple rift in Nyakuza Metro weren’t made by gears for breakfast by themselves! They were made by the community via mods with a purple rift contest for the death wish ones and workshop vote period for the nyakuza metro one, along with some mod cosmetics that are in both expansions! Glad you had a fun time with it, the community is insanely creative, there’s a load of mods to play through on Steam, and the devs really helped support the community a ton too!
Also, wasn't one of them a Mustache Girl backstory one?
@@JMandJJ7797 No, Tour rift is made by GfB
Did you buy Balan Wonderworld physically for a gag?! Dude, you suffer for your art. You're my hero.
Now I petition a round 2 of binding of isaac
Literally just posted a comment asking for a round 2 of that game as well
Agreed, especially with that new content that came out recently.
This would be great considering it would the afterbirth, afterbirth + and repentance dlc which is an insane amount of stuff to talk about
My thoughts exactly.
(Though it might be awhile)
Fun Fact: The dye Johnny had on during the Nyakuza Metro intro, Margin of the Night, is a reference to Niko, the protagonist of OneShot, and is most *definitely not a cat*
Watched your LP and saw that the game oozes with charm. It seemed like it'd be fun, despite me not being into "collect-a-thon" type of platformers. I ended up buying it on the switch with no regrets (except not getting it physically... because good Lord that file size). It was a great time, and I even went out of my way to (110%?) it, twice. Death wish was fun. Masochistic fun (mostly because of the load times you have to endure), but fun nonetheless.
So, thanks. A game I'm glad I added to my collection.
Favorite seal on the cruise ship:
"Hewwo, I'm on a bweak!" while sitting in the kitchen sink, where everything else was dirty, hectic, and on fire. Love that guy.
Rip Johnny. I spent 12 hours in Balan and omfg why does it exist
The seals and bow kid are the best part of A Hat In Time No Cap.
Cuteness Overload. It gave me diabetes
I love at the end when he's talking about what he should make next and a certain platformer we all know about just so happens to be on the table.
It's 4 AM, trying to find videos to watch before sleep, open up UA-cam, see new Johnny review, immediately clicked on it. Thank you for the great content as always Johnny Sir 👍👍
Oh Johnny, you poor soul. That's one Wonderland with a severely ironic title. Next review is going to be...interesting.
So...fun fact about Death Wish: It got hit with mister Nerf Bat multiple times. Yeah, it was even HARDER then it use to be. Two other changes: Deathwish stamps use to be required for the Artic Cruise stages. Yes, Deathwish was REQUIRED at some point. And the other change: P&T mode use to cost not pons, but YARN. You know...the Yarn that is limited in number.
DUDE OH MY GOD, THANK YOU. 8:29, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE. THAT TIME RIFT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

I hope ge does a round 2 on Terreria now that the final expansion released
He didn't even get into Hard Mode last time; he could have done a Round 2 immediately after his initial review lol
TERRARIA ia never going to get a final expansion at the rate they are going
@@jesusbarrera6916 It did though. 1.4 is the final update. There was a huge break between 1.1 and 1.2 because the game was actually cancelled for a bit, (the creator left and founded chucklefish who made Starbound and Wargroove and published Timespinner and Stardew Valley. Terraria was then picked up by a forum mod named Red 2-3 years later and development continued) and 1.3 was delayed many times due to develomemt issues with the spinoff otherworld. The 1.3 expansions and 1.4, the final update, came out in a timely manner, and at least on PC the game is fully complete, and 1.4 for Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Mobile is currently being worked on and PS5 and Xbox Series X versions which will begin at base at 1.4.1 are already being worked on and will release in the next year or two. (Then again, the Switch version was revealed in January 2017 at the switch presentation and was originally supposed to release in late 2017 and got delayed three times to summer 2019 in a surprise release, so who knows.)

Finally, now we can Dance Smugly for the second time
That out to music fits so well with Hat Kid's dancing.
this nostalgia critic backround is a really good idea!
Trust me, the online party in A Hat In Time is going to be chaotic, should you stream it, and when other players join you when entering different worlds, it can get quite claustrophobic.
But these expansions are still a good time (I even went and got the physical Switch version because I love this game so much), and with how many mods there are in the game, with the right ones, the game can be broke right in half and then some.
I'm filled with an unending sense of dread for how Johnny might treat Balan Wonderworld...
It's just.... It doesn't deserve anything less than basic respect at the absolute *least*.
Did you know that one of the main team members behind the Unleashed Project worked on A Hat in Time?
Here's your random fact of day.
Falk?
Fact: Both A Hat in Time and Balan Wonderworld run on Unreal Engine 4.
Opinion: One is a great game. The other is Balan Wonderworld.
A Hat in Time actually runs in Unreal Engine 3, which is why the Switch port was at some point absolutely not going to be a thing. UE3 doesn't support the Switch.
I love the smug smile on Hat Kid when they dance
HEY JOHNNY!!!
It's almost the 30th anniversary of sonic
WHERE IS THE SOUTH ISLAND HISTORIA YOU PROMISED IN THE SONIC LABYRINTH & SONIC BLAST VIDEO???? I'M WAIIIITIIING

I mean Balan isn't THAT fuckin' bad. Jeez. I mean it ain't good by any means but it's at the very least not an offensive mess.
@@FlashTrickstar yeah, but Johnny tends to hate mediocre stuff that sits firmly in the middle meh zone.
Despite my experiences while living there, I would probably live in Georgia again. It's a pretty chill place. Safe travels Johnny!
The only bad part? *NOT ENOUGH CONTENT,* I want more content
12:18-12:46 is literally the greatest review for Balan WonderWorld on the internet 😂😂😂
Something you may not know, as you didn't mention it, Nyakuza Metro is inspired by the Yakuza series of games, and one of the characters, Goro Nyajima, is a straight up reference. Someone make this man do a Yakuza marathon!
I'd honestly love to see your take on Mad Rat Dead, see your opinions, gripes, praises, all that jazz. I love your stuff and haven't been able to put you down for nearly 10 years. Thank you for your consistently top notch content and I hope that everything goes smoothly on your move down to Georgia.
Hint: The purple time rift for the Seal the Deal DLC is easier than how most players make it! If you collect ALL of the golden crown pawns prior to the last (and toughest) segment, then you'll already have the necessary amount of golden crown pawns to immediately open the last exit (so all that remains is to collect that last page of the book before hurling yourself towards the exit)! This particular purple time rift is STILL tough as balls, but the game DID previously inform you that golden crown pawns DO carry over from segment to segment in their respective time rift, so WHY NOT make use of it?
Okay, I’ve put this game on hold for long enough.
@12:19 man... I didn't know Johnny did 2 reviews in one... that Balan Wonderland review was FAST lol. The face says it all.
That look on his face at the end of the video! Priceless! I definitely can’t wait until the review on that game.
you are such a dedicated reviewer dude, if theres any channel that Id be most excited to hit a million subs its this one for sure
i can hear snapcube at the end screaming "no no nO NO NO NO NO" and then bursting into laughter.
Also just beat this game for the 1st time, after completing Hyrule warriors Age of Calamity's story, and got the full game with dlc on switch when it was on sale.
Mainly as something to fill the void before Monster Hunter Rise came out. But it filled it perfectly for me.
Love Penny, she's such a charmer.
Not mentioned in the video: Online Party is exclusive to the Steam version as it was made using Steam networking tech, so there's no online multiplayer on other platforms. Local multiplayer is still available, but to play online you need to buy it on Steam.
With respect to Hat Kid crashing the cruise ship, it does seem d______. But then, you'll see in her diary that she basically said "oops" to that.
Also, so I wasn't the only one who noticed the improved animation in the DLCs.
These videos are getting better each time
I was laughing my ass off when Johnny was complimenting hat kid on wearing a mask and then she did the dab emote
>That ending tease
I just looked up Balan Wonderworld and it feels like Indivisible. More money spent on the cutscene than the actual game.
I might as well call it a "nightmare"?
Balan's problems go so much further than just where they put the money at.
That one is going to be a doozy.
Did your move go alright Johnny? Great to see more content 😊
If I may say...
Chapter 6: The Arctic Cruise, is my least favorite level in A Hat in Time.
It is by far the hardest level in the whole game, and every mission, whether it be story related or a time rift, is hard! Or at least, harder then your standard missions.
Don’t misunderstand; I like the cruise aesthetic, the baby seals are adorable, and it is so cool seeing characters from previous locations just relaxing and enjoying their time on the cruise before you crash it. But in terms of difficulty, the Arctic Cruise really needed to reign it in.
How perfectly timed! I literally just finished the DLC on my Xbox yesterday.
Thanks for getting me to remember this game. I shall now finally purchase it.

Ah cool, a revisit to A Hat in Time (my very first Indie game and thank you Johnny). If the extra dlc content wasn't exclusively for Steam, I would've purchased it.
Actually there IS a boss fight in Nyakuza Metro. A secret one you have to find with a little bit of effort against a Cat with an eyepatch named Meowjima. And yes, he has a knife. It was an homage from the creators to the Yakuza series and a shoutout to the former Super Best Friends and their playthroughs.
Balan Wonderworld is such a train wreck, when the reveal happened, everyone collectively thought the same thing: "ooh... this is gonna sting..."
I wonder if he'll find the positives in it.
JOHNNY: And now that Mario is DEAD.....
ME: Was that really nessecary?
I HATE Death Wish mode! That mode kicked my teeth in so many times, and I held out as much as I could. But when got to Moustache Girl on steroids, I called it quits. Seriously, that mode is the most difficult thing I've ever encountered in my gaming career. That and completing Crash 4.
Important to mention that the switch version has loading time and rare framerate issues when docked and online party isn't available on console to my knowledge. so yeah, pc is your best option if it's available to you
To anyone who tries Online Party downloading Online Party + is big recommendation at it will allow mods that you both have to be visible on another player if their wearing a costume and it has some extra silly tiny activities added. Do note everyone needs the mod for the activities to work. An interesting thing with Co-op is in the early development of the game was that the co-op character was a boy kid that would be lost to time (heh) except that design can still be seen in the stretch goals art of the game's original Kickstarter campaign and got re-imagined into Cap Kid from one of the official Discord server's modding jams. It's also just extremely odd to see Hat Kid dote on a character like that in general nonetheless a boy. And another fun thing I learned from purchasing the N64 "Physical" Box the Rumba was always called Rumbi in the game's physical manual included... and I thought that was just a dorky pet name Hat Kid gave it until the Rumbi Factory came and I saw all the boxes marked Rumbi.
I see Johnny is still bitter about that "cat burglar" joke from the SGB playthrough.
Thank you Johnny for taking another bullet for us with Balan Wonderworld! :)
And good luck with the move
Is that...is that MY mug? Well, well, well. How the turntables...

Yes! I was hoping Johnny would give Balan a review. It's right up his alley considering its history.
Once again, Johnny directly referencing Devil May Cry and me holding my breath for a possible month of marathon of it.
Not that I'm complaining it's just...y'know.
My little cousin hates balan wonderworld, he unintentionally quoted The Nerd
"This game is diarrhea death"
No, Johnny, Balam is gonna be soul crushing.
Much as I prefer console gaming, especially for 3D platformers, I'll admit the one mod I saw (retweeted by the devs no less) that had me pretty excited was the Persona 5 one that turns Hat Kid into Joker. This was a really good Round 2, Johnny. Bow Kid is an absolute treat. They really made the idea of "Green Hat Kid" stand out in a fun way that doesn't necessarily stand out at all.
I forgot I had this on PS4 a few years ago but didn't get far. I wasn't aware they added more DLC, looks pretty legit in the extras department.
"I'm gonna need something to fill the..." oh no Johnny... Good Luck 🤣
