    Thanks, Paul. I’ve just ordered the hybrid, and to answer your question about why anyone would get hybrid vs diesel: I don’t do much country driving. In Brisbane and its suburbs the hybrid will be much more economical on fuel. I don’t drive fast enough for long enough to properly clean the DPF.

    Thanks for the review. I know they aren't built for it but would love to see some of the off road features of the large SUVs tested in the same way you did the mid size. Would be interesting to see the Kluger, sante fe, sorento, subaru outback, cx9, toureg etc. Would love to also see a towing comparison of these for those of us that aren't interested in towing 3.5 tonne caravans and don't want a full off road suv, but may have a camper trailer/boat etc. Loving the content.

    Great review, although I just have to point out one thing as it’s came up in several reviews across different reviewers.
    The diesel/petrol-hybrid comparison.
    I think it’s important to mention diesel is more expensive than petrol plus servicing costs. All must be taken into account, otherwise it’s comparing apples to a walnut

    • @sandorhodi4630
      @sandorhodi4630 Рік тому +4

      Not quite , the fuel consumption is virtually the same at 6l / 100kms , Diesel is about 20c dearer than unleaded per liter , so every 100 kms in the diesel will cost $1.20 more than the hybrid but the hybrid is $3000 dearer ! Do your sums $3000÷$1.2 = 2500 ×100km =250,000 so it will take you 250,000 kms to break even with the 3 grand price difference and other than sales reps not a lot of people do that milage

    • @kbling2946

    • @karan2255
      @karan2255 Рік тому +1

      Other thing to factor is that hybrid weighs more. So when it’s driving on petrol engine, it has to carry additional weight of the battery which will impact fuel consumption. Also worth noting that the engine won’t be zippy. Each to their own. Depends on requirements

    • @rhyschapman2861
      @rhyschapman2861 Рік тому

      @@sandorhodi4630 I have been keeping an eye on Petrol vs Diesel prices because I see this come up a fair bit. Diesel is closer to 35-40c more then 91. Now each tank is the same at 67Litres. So at todays prices: 169.7 for 91 and 209.9 for diesel (4pm, 6/2/23, 4000 QLD) a tank of 91 is $113.69 and Diesel is $140.63. Now say you fill up once per fortnight that's $2955.94 per year for 91 (at those prices) and $3656.45 for Diesel. Over 5 years (warranty period) that's $3500 cheaper for 91 (but you pay $3000more for the Hybrid). So you do break even at least. So in the video Paul says you would never make back the difference based on 6 vs 6.1 L/100km is not the whole story.

    • @sandorhodi4630
      @sandorhodi4630 Рік тому

      @rhyschapman2861 fair enough ! Quoting Perth prices atm Shell Highwycombe is 1.64 ulp and 1.79 diesel, so 15 cents difference and at that rate you are looking at a virtually unattainable payback on the 3 grand premium for the hybrid, so I suppose it'll come down to where you live and how much you are paying for fuel

    Thanks for the review Paul, I watch a lot of yours and enjoy all of them. I currently drive the pre-facelift Santa Fe diesel (for the past 4.5 years) and placed my order for the hybrid today. As mentioned elsewhere in the comments, even if the economy was the same, with the difference in price of diesel vs petrol, there is a big difference in running costs. As I do most of my driving commuting and in traffic, I expect the hybrid to be far more efficient than the diesel, where I'm averaging about 9.8-10.2l/100km. I also found the hybrid to be far quieter and smoother than the diesel when taking it for a test drive. And the six seater option in the camel leather is really cool. Obviously I am a button man and prefer not to fiddle with a touch screen to adjust aircon, etc. Oh, and you failed to mention the driver's seat has another button to lengthen or shorten the thigh support too.

Btw, Kia considers excessive loss of oil if it loses at least one quart of oil per thousand miles driven. If you're vehicle loses less than one quart of oil per thousand miles, Kia considers the oil loss acceptable and the engine to be good.

Your demister is 1 button push away, seat heater the same etc. I remember when I got my A8 back in 2005 it looked the console was held together with buttons, but once logged into memory most every day things were a button push away. My 2020 Touareg requires multiple button pushes to achieve the same and with a virtual btn you can’t it by touch so have no option but take eyes off the road.
    Maybe I’m just old….but if I NEED something in the car it should be a btn push away…not several swipe/pinch virtual movements at a screen.

    Thanks Paul - I’ve always had a soft spot for the AWD Diesel Sante Fe as an alternative to the bigger Prado/Pajero models especially with the lift up tailgate instead of the annoying swing out door and it gives some temporary shelter from the elements - for simplicity, longevity and similar running costs I’d choose the diesel every time - not a fan of digital instruments clusters and this one is a bit bling for me in addition to the awful ‘Las Vegas’ tan seat coverings - I think dark grey or black cloth and conventional torque converter auto not CVT.

      I guess you would be glad to hear then that you could get plain black seats, and we're all thanking the heavens for the fact that unlike some manufacturers ahem Mitsubishi and Nissan, Hyundai uses a standard 6-speed torque converter in the hybrid Santa Fe.

    • @johnnumbat9782
      @johnnumbat9782 Рік тому

      @@arielfrancisleathem3280 yes Ariel manufacturers seem to have gone with the CVT because they’re apparently easier to build and more economical - after 10 Subarus I stopped buying them when they introduced the flawed CVT into their cars in 2013 - a shame because I found the torque converter incredibly reliable and got my ‘97 Forester to 425000 kms on he original transmission - the CVTs are failing from 60000km consistently - Nissan’s are worse and most people aren’t aware that the new Mitsubishis are rebadged Nissans - oops 😒 and more cyclical is that here in Australia you have to use Mitsubishi service centres for 10 years or you void your warranty so that’s how they can make money and rip you off.

    The biggest thing that needs to have been mentioned is the ridiculous 10000km service intervals compared to the diesel. Also the costs of the services are also exorbitant. For 70000km, it’ll cost you approx $4400 in servicing whereas the diesel is only approx $2400 and 15000km service intervals.
    You’d have to be absolutely mad to buy one of these over the diesel. And I love my hybrids!

    Hi, I have just bought the Hybrid Highlander, was very much torn between the diesel and the Hybrid but in the end was scared off the diesel due to the bad rap these motors were getting in regards to pollution etc. Plus the every better tech in EV vehicles may see diesel being phased out sooner rather than later, making a Diesel Santa Fe worthless for future resale. That is my belief. I could be wrong, and I would like your thoughts on the resale values of diesel, say 5 to 10 years time, compared to Hybrids. Appreciate your reviews they are very helpful.

    I couldn't stand a CVT for a few reasons and hence prefer this transmission compared to any of the Toyota hybrids. During a trip to a hike, a Toyota hybrid AWD couldn't get up a little hill as it ran out of power but the Santa Fe hybrid did it impressively well. Got this car because a fully loaded version was only 47k USD. And Diesel is not an option in the US. Hyundai also offers a 10000mile/10year power train warranty in the US, which helps with the confidence in the vehicle

    Dark black (chrome black 🤔) front grille look very good!.
    👍🏼👌🏼😉
    But... I'm just disappointed that the turn signals are at the level of the rear bumper, and not in the taillights (where the brake lights are). 😡👎🏼
    Premium level mid size SUV model despite this!. 🙂

    NGL i love when the velar came out and kinda started the screens everywhere thing but must say i do like that centre console. definatly do not much like the climate and entertainment to be run soly through the centre screen.
    Here again like for the pajero sport phev those 3rd row seats needs to be an option not standard since 90% of the time they will take up space they dont need to.

    These hybrids need axial-flux e-motors (smaller/lighter/more power) and smaller ICE with bigger batteries (which you can afford with the smaller lighter axial-flux motors) and then you will start seeing the ltr/100 come down in a big way.

    Diesel is 35c more per Litre. in a month this equate to about 60 Dollars if you fill your car 3 times a month. 720 per year. So, you only save money after 4 years for avrg driving. If you travel alot then you may make your money sooner.

      @@sentryion3106 I agree that hev systems can be arguably the among the best if done right however most manufactures in order to cut costs seriously handicap designs and i believe tiny battery systems means high charge/discharge currents and a lot of cycling the results in early batt failure and lackluster performance and economys which are not much different to diesel etc. the hevs simply have not been around for long i doubt most of them will be lucky to see 5-7 yrs without serious degradation of cells. i honestly hope im wrong but will not be putting my $$ into this tech for a long time.

    Thanks for the review Paul. I reckon the reason why this one exists is thanks to the higher price of diesel (and higher emissions too) than Petrol. Diesel also needs you to drive long distances every once in a while to burn off the deposits in the DPF. But is it worth the 3K is the question.
    While Hyundai and Kia have joined the Hybrid bandwagon, the real question is whether they can establish a track record as strong as Toyota.
    Hyundai and Kia seem to have adopted the Chinese approach towards designing cars - they use to previously copy a lot of european designs and I can see that there are elements of Toyota which they copied in here

    Hahaha, no Paul that was not a premium sounding door, it was clunky like false teeth falling into a glass. Quality doors have a Thumbing sound, only G Wagon gets away with the clunk sound. I think the Palisade is a better option for having a useful third row and boot. Great review.

My main concern are those rear blinkers, not only are they low down, but very small, I could see those causing issues for those following .
