There’s a mistake in the fuel $/L number on our tables (diesel/petrol $/L is swapped), but the final 5-year running costs figures are correct! See edited table at our site: www.chasingcars.com.au/reviews/large-suvs/hyundai-santa-fe-hybrid-highlander-2023-review/
Love that interior and it seems to have less piano black than the sorrento. I think I'd go santa fe but 7 yr warranty is hard to pass. Diesel for me 35k per year 95% highway driving. Great review 👍
I still think for all people who tow, there is a massive gap in the market. A hybrid diesel without reduced engine capacity would be the perfect car. You don’t lose power for towing on the highway, yet get the benefit uphill from the electric motor and also in city conditions.
Fun fact - in NZ Hyundai sells the elite for $92k AUD, and the highlander version (called limited here) for $101k AUD, currently on sale for only $7-8k cheaper than RRP, even the cheapest version here of the Sante Fe Hybrid is quite abit more expensive than the Toyota Highlander ZR (Kluger Grande) which sells for $73k AUD. The sales people here have been trained to say that Hyundai is now a premium brand that competes with German marques hence the prices.
Hey Tom I think you got your fuel prices wrong . You had petrol and diesel at the same price whereas diesel typically costs more at 2.30/l . This should make the running costs of the hybrid even better than displayed?
See pinned comment - the final calculation is correct but you’re right that the $/L is mistakenly swapped - but this has no bearing on the final number.
Awesome review Tom I think Hyundai has come along way from what they used to be! I’m looking forward to the new Santa Fe when it comes out ! Btw where can I get chasing cars tops like yours?
Confused about wireless Apple CarPlay. What’s the issue… My 2022 Tucson base model has wireless Apple CarPlay as standard is it different with the Santafe?
This car has just been released in Thailand as an only model available at 1.85M Baht (A$79,000), very disappointed they didn't bring the diesel model and the Tuscon. Overpriced and underspec'd IMHO. The memory seats do not cover the mirrors and there isn't even a heads-up display, all of which are on memory settings with a much cheaper Mazda CX30, shameful!
They're both good - just wish you could get the Sorento GT-Line with a non-black interior. Sadly, you cannot (in Australia). That means the Santa Fe gets the nod for me.
I think prospective buyers should include resale in their value equation. Yes the purchase price for a hybrid is more expensive, but some of that outlay will be regained when the car is sold. Demand for hybrid and electric vehicles will likely increase in the future, elevating the retained value of these models. Also, thinking beyond our wallets, lets hope some buyers place a value on the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels.
No " enviromental benefit. To make the battery is much more harmful and 10 years later you have to replace it. No one trade an old Toyota Camry as the battery cost about 4000 dollars I had been told by taxi owners. Future potential hybrit issues ......no thanks. Not tested like Toyota. And I am a Hyundai owner.

Great review. The Santa Fe is feature rich and affordable. The case for buying the comparable German brands is weakening.
Thanks Phil.

You should think about the battery cost when its need to be changed
Great review and I loved that you did a bit of math as not a lot of reviews will demonstrate the anticipated savings on offer
Happy to help!

Hi Tom , just have to ask about that tash, looks Good and really suits you mate
@6:30 spotted an error.
Fuel price for diesel should be 2.30 and
For the hybrid 2.00
You're 5 year spend is correct.
As pointed out in the pinned comment. Sorry about that! As you’ve said the calculation itself is actually right.
Love the captain chairs. If only the Tucson came in hybrid in Australia
It will… but perhaps not until 2024
nice review..can see the hybrid trend beginning
Yes. We'll see much more from Hyundai in the future on the hybrid front.

It's good to see fatter tyres are slowly coming back into vogue in Australia.
Welcome to Canberra! Classic weather to showcase a silver grey model
Very true.
Tom, what happen to John Law ! I've been looking & waiting for his reviews on Chasing Cars
John no longer works for Chasing Cars.
Confused about wireless Apple CarPlay. What’s the issue… My 2022 Tucson base model has wireless Apple CarPlay as standard is it different with the Santafe?
Hyundai cars with navigation don’t have wireless CarPlay
Is this more fuel efficient than a Kluger Hybrid?
So $2/L is the new norm that the oil companies have set? Gotta keep those profits up as more EVs appear on the road aye.
Not sure. But it's been around or above $2/L all year around here.
I need to rent one for Ride share, where ???
What is the service cost every year?
About $500

It's a shame the hybrid tech is not available in the entry grade like Toyota that's part reason for there success
Part of the reason - but not most of the reason. For both Kluger and Santa Fe, the majority of sales are of the mid or high grade tiers.
Nic but for that money, I'm waiting for a kona ev.
Fair enough, though a very different car - no AWD, no third row, much less premium interior. Many benefits too, like…being fully EV
Was that 69 k pounds? US dollars?
You look like Kevin Rudd in this video haha
So this Santa Fe hybrid be worth doing Uber in.
This vs Hybris Sorento?
They're both good - just wish you could get the Sorento GT-Line with a non-black interior. Sadly, you cannot (in Australia). That means the Santa Fe gets the nod for me.
If the center console wasnt such a clusterf#%k of buttons, this def would be an awesome SUV 😵💫😵💫. Great review though!
Hyundai has been upgraded significantly. Some models are even better than Japanese brands.
Sadly, it means you simply have to pay more for Hyundai.
Hyundai is no longer a budget brand.
This hybred suv perfect him gilr eltric suv. Gren cars suv saves earth stoing global big snow naked bug as ac inver 2 ac inverters
Hynday now forgot the car design
I don’t think it looks that bad IMO - though I’m not sold on the blue-grey colour.
@@chasingcars They are ow making weird front design especially the head light design
