I love you chose this one. In those days there still were beautiful pop melodies, bridges in songs, Rickenbacker guitars, harmonies, nice sounds.... And no autotune, I presume. 😁
Was in love with Susanna Hoffs in my younger days. The Bangles were super talented. Oh 80s radio days.
The Bangles were seriously under-rated! I love their sound and the fact that they don't have just one lead singer. They all take turns according to the needs of the song. You should react to Dust Angels, and I love, love, love their uptempo cover of Paul Simon's Hazy Shade of Winter (the official video version especially). Little known fact, Prince wrote Manic Monday, a huge hit for them.
It's interesting that you would say Susanna Hoffs had more experience with her vocal styles (less nasally) on this song vs Eternal Flame because this song was part of the Different Light album. Eternal Flame was released on their follow up album, Everything. So, Eternal Flame was recorded two years after If She Knew What She Wants.
More sounds of my youth, Maggie. Still love The Bangles but "Eternal Flame" is one of my all time favs, usually makes me cry.
A group with fantastic harmonies.
A good one. The Bangles were so much more than Walk Like An Egyptian, although that is a classic. Yay Roy P! Really good reaction/analysis, Maggie! Like the old days with the charts. 😊
One thing you may not know about the Bangles is that Susanna is not the "lead singer." She is ONE of the leads. All 4 sing lead, including the drummer. I would recommend Watching the Sky to hear another singer. Great song too.
The 80's with all that music in the beginning of videos and finally the age to join concerts live...
Return post ,crash and burn, are good. So many that are good.
Shout out to Susanna Hoffs for 40 years later still looking like a dime and sounding like one, too!
The Bangles did an excellent cover of the 1966 Grass Roots song "Where Were You When I Needed You." You might want to check out both the original and the cover.
See: that's why I've got ALL of their albums in my shelf 🙂
(Just one copy of each, of course.)
This is my favorite by the Bangles.
same! I LOVE this song. I always have. a great song and a great performance by the bangles. my all time favorite.
Dammit, I'm 50 and still crush on her.
this is my decade of music , i graduated in 1984 and Suzanna Hoffs was a huge crush of mine but Michael (Mikki) the bass player also was high on list
A very romantic song
This song was recorded a couple years BEFORE Eternal Flame.
Susanna Hoffs is the voice of the Bangles.
San Fernando California very own The Bangles.
You should check out one of the songs that have bassist Michael Steele on lead vocals. She has my favorite voice of all the women in the band. “Following”, “September Gurls” and “Glitter Years” are all great Michael songs.
If she knew what she wants is from 1986 while Eternal Flame is from 1989 so 3 years after this one.
You should find check stuff sung by the other members as they trade off on leads. Michael Steele, the bass player has some of my favourite vocals.
I love the bangles!! I wanted to be Susanna Hoffs when I was a teen. Great job Maggie!
They had a trademark sound. Susanna Huff is still singing and sounds very much the same.
Unfortunately, The Bangles came along at a time when US audiences weren't accepting female groups like they did around the world, or they would have been even more popular than they were.
Nothing negative to say about the Bangles. That was fun to watch and listen to.
such a nice wholesome song.
Terrific reaction. Love the Bangles.
I love Susanna Hoffs ❤
one of my fav groups...sexy and sounded great as well...
Cover of a Jules Shear song. I like it when the lyrics stay the same even though the gender of the singer has been switched. Keeping it authentic.
I remember when this came out, The Bangles were pretty big back in the day-Walk like an Egyptian got a lot of radio play too. I’d love to see your reaction to Lovebites-Judgement Day and Gacharic Spin-Replica, you will be impressed.
Never realized how well written this song was. Never concentrated on the lyrics.
I'm glad you reacted to this, it was a good choice, whoever brought it. A very melodic song, not a lot of changes, that would've ruined it. The vocals are nice and smooth the way she uses her voice. That bridge was perfect, and a mention for that guitar solo too great songwriting.
I know I want Susana Hoffs
No mention of the ‘Harmonies’ of the others?
DAN VASC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Bangles got sucked into the media focus trap, which is one of the worst crimes ever perpetrated as they were tight as a group and had a fantastic sound, soft at times but having an amazing power in their rock songs. "Hazy Shade of Winter" really proves their rock mettle. Suzanna is not guiltless in their fall, but it really was the media and producer that pushed things. They made a lot of effort to keep things equal across all the members in writing and performance and they are all exceptionally skilled.
They may be talented at songwriting, but Jules Shear wrote this and Prince Wrote Manic Monday.
Love the Bangles still my favorite band next us the Go-Gos. ♠️🎩😘🌹🥰💋💘
Susanna Hoffs has a degree in Psychology which comes through when you listen to the music of the Bangles as well as her own material is very unique. The music as performed invokes thought.
Let's give credit where credit is due - Jules Shear wrote this song and performed it on one of his solo albums. I think listening to the lyrics knowing that a man wrote them gives one a slightly different perspective. Not better or worse, or ironic, but worthy of reflection. Similar to knowing that Gerry Goffin wrote the lyrics to Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.
Agreat Bengals song wriiten by Jools.
Will you make a reaction to Dimash?
He has a lot of new songs now, I would like to see your reaction
And I really like you 😍
👍❤️❤️
Range? Listen to Laura Bretan doing Dear Father!
Where did you find time for a react ??? Lol
Bla bla bla, you talk way to much, if I click on on Of your videos it’s not to hear you blab on and on
I am baffled by this comment. Why would you click on her videos except to hear what she has to say?
