    Very interesting watching this after your video on the $20k Toyota Land Cruiser against the $3k LR Disco 2. When you see how easily this RR went through the same tests as the Toyota & Disco on its original All Season ‘street’ tyres, you realise just how good the traction control system on the RR is and how capable it is ‘out of the box’ 😮

      You can say that about the 5th Gen. 4R TRD OR as well. "out of the box" on factory chosen tires, it will walk the same terrain that LRD does no problem.

    Sometimes people forget that it's not just about the base cost of the vehicle. My Audi is twice as much as my Toyota to insure. It's also insanely expensive to maintain, since the Audi also has a supercharger. Going to the dealer, it's $800-1200 USD for regular maintenance.
    Granted, you can go to a different mechanic (not dealer) and/or do work yourself, but most people don't do that. With something like a RR/LR, I think most would rather trust the dealer than random mechanic who doesn't specialize in them, but TFL viewers are likely car people and a different breed. For most people, buying one of these (even at 45% original MSRP) is still an expensive purchase, assuming you don't have it break down every other week.

    I'm glad to see they choose RR wheels. For some reason I suspected some cheap Walmart wheel. On the other hand, considering its a Range Rover and it has air suspension, I wouldn't worry about ride quality being an issuer. Grip however, makes a big difference, especially in snow

    Considering Range Rover is now a Rolls Royce, S class merc competitor now it’s mad how good it is Offroad. The previous gen was peak Range Rover and that’s a proper farmers workhorse in the UK, pretty much every farmer in the UK has one, they will have something more rough and ready, but the RR will be used for general farm stuff and towing animals to shows or market and the odd trip out with the wife.

      Range Rover's heritage is off-road vehicle. It simply got gussied up over the years and now its considered a full luxury brand. Just like the $150k G-Wagon, and the rest of the Mercedes line. In North America, we only get the full luxury versions of these vehicles. For example, the sort wheel base S-Class isn't even imported. Nor is Audi A8 or BMW 7 Series for that matter.

    I did the same and fitted 20” LR alloys to my L405 with Falken Wildpeaks- my third set on my LRs. I’ve found them to be excellent all round, fairly quiet and great in the wet which is very important where I live. Terrain response gets better with each generation and it’s fantastic on the L405. That LWB will be interesting off road. Thanks.

    Per JLR techs, you don’t air down 20” wheels to off-road. Light duty load on Defender for example is like 35psi instead of normal loads of about 44psi. The techs said to lower down to the light duty pressure level and MAYBE down to like 30psi, but anything more is unnecessary and ups your chance of pinch flats or side wall tears.

    Sorry Tommy, the 3 peak snowflake symbol does NOT make this a winter tire. This standard simply means, “This symbol is a seal of approval of sorts that indicates the tire has been tested and it is capable of at least 110 percent of the traction of a reference all-season tire”. In my experience, they suck in ice and slush.

    • @hermanjohnson9180
      @hermanjohnson9180 Рік тому

    • @Japplesnap

      @@hermanjohnson9180 you are correct. Technically. Realistically though, tires marketed as "all season" with the three peak marking are usually worthless on frozen, icy roads or in slush. @@TheNightmoves Interesting. I'll take your word for it but for the all-terrain truck/SUV tires then that rating really counts. Unless it's super cold then you might as well have a snow tire. BF Goodrich and the Falken AT3W are amazing. Being near equal in snow and ice to a winter tire. And in some cases performing better when there is water. In the test I saw the winter tire was only the better option when it's really really cold. (-10 or below)

    @12:08 True that pizza cutters gonna help but atleast in 4Runner world pizza cutters don't have good options. For example all 255/80R17 are Load E tires. I've used Load E 275/70R17 in the past and Mrs didn't like them even running 32psi on pavement. I had to sell them at few miles eating loss of my money. I will not go more that Load C for my 5000lbs & 5060lbs 4Runners.

    I run theses tires on my wife's RAV4. They are good for mall crawler suv's, Not my pick for any offroading.

      Easy to find thousands of people who did just that. But to be honest, 98% of these vehicles are leased and returned, and then leased a second time. Only when they get to their third or fourth owner are they typically sometimes purchased.

    I stopped watching as soon as I seen the weak ass tire they threw on it. I really taught they were going to put a real off-road tire. Great tire for all season driving and minor off road. But with those big brakes you won’t be able to fit a proper off-road tire without lifting her.
    I now remember why I stopped watching tfl

    • @donhappel9566
      @donhappel9566 Рік тому

      TFL has never been about serious off-roading. Even their most extreme vehicles and trails are very mild; where did you get the idea they were anything else? While I might choose a tire that mild for my dd work truck that sees 99.99% pavement and would never choose it for one of my Rovers (My wife's DD L322 RR has Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs in 33" on it) I think they actually picked a tire appropriate to the use case they outlined. A mostly street commuter that will see some mild dirt once in a while.
