Kobe was a true basketball legend. One of a kind that impacted so many of us in so many ways. Our entire household crowded around the television whenever the Lakers played and that's not to mention the games we attended at the Staples Center or up here in the Bay Area. He entered the league at 18 and played until he was 37, he grew up in front of the spotlight and stayed with the same team his whole career. He's the king of LA. What an unbelievable transformation and career. I still remember 5 of my friends and I, being hovered over a laptop on a stream, watching him drop 81 on our beloved Raptors. One of the amazing things about Kobe, was that he was able to pull off these amazing hang-time dunks, yet his vertical jump was just over 1-foot LESS than Micheal Jordan (the GOAT). Kobe's vertical was only about 38 inches, while Michael Jordan's vertical was 48.75 inches (almost 49 inches) which is actually still the NBA record. The fact that Kobe was able to have so much hang time in the air and pull off these amazing dunks with only a 38-inch vertical, was an incredible feat in itself.
Watching your expressions, by the 16:20 mark you fell in love with Kobe Bryant. At the 16:48 mark you were nearly moved to tears. Kobe Bryant has that effect on a lot people, male and female alike.

Something I think is crazy is how sports talk show host never really talked about Kobe as the number 1 player in the league but they are quick to give that title to anyone nowadays like Gianis or Kevin Durant or kawhi, damien, Luca ect and they don’t even compare to Lebron. (I’m only 21 so I’m talking about the last decade or so of talk shows.)
There are a bunch of motivational speeches by Kobe online, but I think "Mindset of winner" is the best one. It really gives you an insight into who Kobe was and what drove him. You should react to it.
I love a sick dunk like everyone else, but what I appreciate most about Kobe is his competitiveness and his desire to get better. The man was OBSESSED with being in the gym. Not many athletes EVER can ever match his work-ethic, and I think his scoring and his clutch moments and also his FAILURES are what show that better than a dunk or some crazy layup. That’s what people love about Kobe. That’s why people miss him, that’s why people look up to him. Every NBA player has inherited intangibles and skills, otherwise they wouldn’t make it to the league, but they have to work to be great, they have to be able to stand over adversity, and no one lived by that and did that better than Kobe.

Kobe was amazing & will forever be respected as one of the greatest ever, if it wasn't for MJ I'd say he was, but that's who he wanted to emulate and you saw it in the determination and drive. I never knew how close they were until I saw Michael Jordan speak about him at the funeral, very emotional and caused me to look at it all differently.
One of a few players to go straight from high school to the NBA. No college basketball. His memorial is a great video. He was a "girl dad" first and foremost. Three daughters and coached his young daughter who was on track to be one of the best female players in history. I know she would have been. She died in the helicopter crash with him on the way to one of her games.

I'll never forget when he outscored Dallas (at their prime) by 61 points in three quarters. Before the fourth quarter Phil Jackson asked if he wanted to continue playing or sit out the rest. At that point, with 62 points, he was only nine points short of Elgin Baylor's 70-point Laker record. He chose to sit it out. Who does that? Two weeks later he scored 81 points against the Raptors. RIP, Kobe.

@@bucketsofepicness9781 before he blew out his achilles he was single-handedly trying to get LA 8th seed to the playoffs. If I remember correctly they were 10th. If his team wasn't so bad they might've secured the spot before the injury.
I mean, holiday period of that 2012-2013 season he was leading league scorer. Then he turned into Magic Mamba, streaking double doubles and triple doubles leading up to the achilles. All that facility from Kobe and that season's team was still terrible overall. Then the achilles. Nail in the coffin.
If you watch the highlights from the game where he tore his Achilles and shot free throws to win the game and walk off on it . It’s powerful stuff and inspiring this man was just something else . No one else like him
Kobe was coached by the same coach as micheal Jordan but how he trained he asked how many shots Jordan would put up during a work out session he said 500 so Kobe started doing 1000 shots per session

I'm still in awe, I modeled my basketball game after him n Allen Iverson. He slept 4 hours per night for 20 years. Just so he could get more practice in. He was at the track running sprints at 4am!

Kobe was amazing & will forever be respected as one of the greatest ever, if it wasn't for MJ I'd say he was, but that's who he wanted to emulate and you saw it in the determination and drive. I never knew how close they were until I saw Michael Jordan speak about him at the funeral, very emotional and caused me to look at it all differently.

One of a few players to go straight from high school to the NBA. No college basketball. His memorial is a great video. He was a "girl dad" first and foremost. Three daughters and coached his young daughter who was on track to be one of the best female players in history. I know she would have been. She died in the helicopter crash with him on the way to one of her games.

First of all, this is a great video and thank you, I've never seen it. But also it made me realize that his death was how we started 2020 off. Then the pandemic. Then the riots. What a bummer year and we're only half done.
During his 20 years with the Lakers, I doubt that I missed more than 10 or 15 games. People usually vote for Lebron in those best ever polls. That could be true, but there was a one-and-a-half year period (2005 - 2006) when he played at a level that nobody has ever surpassed. I'll never forget when he outscored Dallas (at their prime) by 61 points in three quarters. Before the fourth quarter Phil Jackson asked if he wanted to continue playing or sit out the rest. At that point, with 62 points, he was only nine points short of Elgin Baylor's 70-point Laker record. He chose to sit it out. Who does that? Two weeks later he scored 81 points against the Raptors. RIP, Kobe.

Growing up with my family being a lakers fan from birth. It Hurted when Shaq left. it also hurts more when he left NBA. But it destroyed me when he died.
