Kobe was 6-16 against LeBron, the worst percentage vs any other star he faced more than 10 times. Y’all should check out LeBron mixtape from 2018, his best year where he carried a bad team to the Finals

Guys so it was against the Mavericks he outscored the entire team in 3 quarters. He scored 62 and the Mavs had 61. Phil sat him the entire 4th quarter because they were so far ahead. Kobe's signature move has to be the fadaway jumper but that was also Jordan's signature. The one thing Kobe id a lot that Jordan didn't do were those baseline reverse dunks. Nobody does those like Kobe. You guys might enjoy the story of when Kobe dropped 55 on Jordan after Jordan dissed him. ua-cam.com/video/YsF5Kx1vOyA/v-deo.html

a few things. the 62 points against the mavericks was through 3 quarters. he was outscoring the other team by himself through 3 quarters. the 81 points was against the raptors, 2nd most in a game all time. also, his 60 point final game is my favorite memory of kobe. the last few minutes were just vintage kobe.

I grew up in Los Angeles, still live here. Kobe came to LA at 18 years old and I felt like I grew up with him cheering on the Lakers on our local tv channels. The entire city of Angels watched Kobe grow from teenager to Father. The city still grieves. Until today, you can still feel the city hurt thinking about him.
The image that always comes to my mind are our local buses/public transportation having their signs spell out "WE LOVE YOU KOBE" after his death. Until now, when I look at the buses, while I do read what it actually says, a part of me still sees "WE LOVE YOU KOBE".

The reason you can’t do Kobe justice in a short highlight video like this is because you don’t get to see his dominant stretch of games like where he scored 50+ points in 9 straight games. He had multiple stretches like this in his career where it was simply impossible to guard him.

He could tell if someone was going to jump at his fadeaways and if they did, he would fake the fade, pivot, and get an easy lay at the rim. His game was work of art, he was a 1 of 1. RIP Mamba.

part of why its hard to do kobe justice in highlights is that anyone can dunk, anyone can juke a defender, but not many can take over a game, while still putting on a all around performance, dunks, ball handles, blocks, 3's when they matter most, and creating shots while being double teamed and playing top top top level defense, many forget that defense is as important as offense while only seeing offensive highlights. So many current players are hyped up and everyone forgets they are average at best at defense.

Every game felt like watching a movie because Kobe would just take over. Every next game felt like the sequel. Highlights can't do Kobe justice because it cuts the whole film. Watching highlights don't show you if he was on a cold streak that night but suddenly he woke up with crowd just willing him to keep going. It doesn't show the tension in the building during a timeout with 5 seconds left in the game. This man gave us some of the greatest basketball games of all time. Then he scores 60 with a classic Kobe finish for his last game. Damn I miss him.

Kobe said he changed to 24 because it represented a new beginning for him. There are 24 hours in a day and 24 seconds on the shot clock in the NBA so the number was suppose to be symbolic of his dedication to the game. 24 was also the first number he had when he moved from Italy to the states

I think Kobe's only weakness was that he tended to take the shot himself instead of pass it to an open teammate, made it hard sometimes for him to play with other stars. Also that was Phil Jackson BTW he won 6 titles with MJ & 5 with Kobe. Helping stars get over the hump to win championships was kinda of Phil's thing LOL

    • @onlydbrasko
      @onlydbrasko 9 місяців тому +6

His 3peat teammates included well respected, battle proven veterans from the bulls and pistons that Phil brought. His weakness was Shaq's laziness that began after 3peat coming to camp looking like the Michelin man yet yelled at then owner Jerry Buss on the court in the middle of the game demanding new contract, all the while Kobe upped his game another level over the summer and was no longer willing to play second fiddle to a fat slob. Had Shaq had more discipline at the dinner plate, Kobe/Shaq could've easily matched Jordan's 6 rings and the whole "Kobe was selfish" narrative would forever be buried.
NO ONE is selfish when you go from 3peat to playing with Smush Parker, Luke Walton, Kwame Brown, and Medvedenko

    • @KnightlyNerds

@@zionnewkirk4838 Absolutely correct, so much so that the one time he let his teammate take all the shots the press jumped on him for "quitting" and just proved his point that the team around him in the post-Shaq pre-Gasul years was hot garbage. Kobe wasn't perfect but he often gave up the ball for teammates especially Shaq, probably the leagues biggest cry baby, when he needed to.

Being from LA, I got to watch Kobe in person many times. Great ballplayer and he's high on my list of favorites (favorite laker though is James Worthy). Kobe's weakness was mental .... he said he believed he could make every shot he took and he didn't have a great field goal percentage and some teammates called him a ball hog. But, that's okay about his field goal percentage... long ago, MJ had a commercial in which he said "I've missed more winning shots than I've taken." Kobe wasn't afraid to try. The man could dunk, shoot, pass, and defend.

Kobe and Shaq didn't get along because Kobe had the most hardcore work ethic in the league since Jordan, who was his idol- Kobe was the kind of guy to get up at 2am to be in the gym by 3 or 4, get 1000 shots up before breakfast, another 1000 before lunch and another 1000 before dinner. Its now referred to as "Mamba Mentality". Shaq, on the other hand, was kind of a goofball that didn't take anything seriously. This clash of personalities was at the core of their relationship for years, as Kobe had a hard time respecting anyone that wasn't focused 100% on winning. They made up later in their careers but their rift was a contributing factor to Shaq leaving the Lakers eventually while Kobe stayed a Laker his whole career.

I saw Koby when he played in High School. He taught me to love basketball. His play was like a dance-beautiful! Steph Curry has that same quality. I miss the Mamba😢 ( that spin around jumper belonged to Koby!!)

Two things I'd like to point out . They weren't just rumors Shaq and Kobe really disliked each other at times. As someone who grew up watching the Shaq and Kobe Lakers it made me really happy that Shaq and Kobe did a sit down interview with each other before Kobe passed and they came to an understanding and genuine appreciation for each other. Second there's a documentary called " Kobe Doin Work" Where Kobe was shown game film of a recent game that he had played vs San Antonio. Its just Kobe breaking down the film, while famed director Spike Lee asked him questions. You can compare Kobe to Michael because Kobe was the closest thing to Michael that we wil ever see.

His signature move is the elbow jumper. A jump shot from the top corner of the lane.
Hard for a video to do justice because his “Mamba Mentality” was a big part of his game.
    24 because 1 over Jordan (23)

Kobe's trademark shot would undoubtedly be the heavily contested, off-balanced 20-ft fallaway over 3 defenders blocking his view of the basket. lol Nah, he had so many. He was great in the midrange but later in his career gravitated toward the perimeter. He and Tracy McGrady were the first guys to heat-check shots from the logo, almost 20 years before Steph Curry, Dame Lillard, and James Harden made it fashionable. He could create space against any coverage, against any defender, and whenever he wanted. His footwork was impeccable and his post-game was poetry in motion. He was an amazing player with an insurmountable basketball IQ, and he NEVER cheated the game, he gave his heart and soul to basketball and we love him for it. Perhaps his greatest gift was his willingness to share with younger players his skills and techniques.

My favorite player of all time growing up a Laker fan. He definitely had no weaknesses in his game, maybe the only thing is if him and Shaq stayed cool they would’ve won way more championships together.

i remember in the playoffs around 2010 or 2011 shane battier was guarding kobe and kobe went up for a 3 and battier (known for his defense) had his hand over kobe's face so close that there was no way he saw the rim and he still made it lol

The reason it’s hard to put him in a highlight reel is a lot like Jordan. When you see a 10 hour documentary on him it sheds more light on the man.
You can put me making baskets to music over 20 years but I am not 1% Kobe lol

Kobe's "weakness" was that he held everyone to the same standards he held himself to. He didn't trust his teammates bc most of them didn't have his work ethic, let alone skill. The ones that put in the work got his respect and he depended on them (Derek Fisher, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest/Metta World Peace).
Kobe was mad at Shaq bc he felt Shaq was lazy. Shaq is as petty as they come, so he kept the beef going long after they stopped being teammates. They patched it up after Shaq retired, though.

The core of Kobe's career was played during the (statistically) hardest era to score in NBA history. So, Kobe's greatness sometimes gets forgotten because the stats seem slightly deflated compared to what you'd expect but it's important to remember it was a very low scoring environment (only mid 90s average per game compared to 110+ this season, for example).
