I don’t think I’ve ever seen black girls portrayed this way ( happy, in love w/ eachother and themselves, in control of their sexuality, etc.) and ? It is so refreshing??? I’m so happy for ya’ll this video is great
roni thacker I don’t think the actual color of a black womans vagina is A. Any of ur (or my) business and B. Important to the video? Pink symbolizes a lot of things! For example, the Lesbian pride flag is pink and this video is obviously about the Love two women have for each other. It’s also the color of the pussy hats worn during the March For Women and it’s a color that’s been, adopted ? By the feminist movement. Maybe I’m interrupting this wrong, but maybe pynk means more in the song than the color of a vagina, but refers closer to sapphic love? And even if the song is about pink vags the women in it are still shown dancing/jumping/smiling/etc. in a way black women aren’t presented in most media.
roni thacker Black women definitely have pink in their vaginas 😂😂 y'all are crazy lmbo!! That's the unifying factor that no matter what shade you are there are way more similarities than differences and in this case all vaginas have pink

amazing that people are more outraged over a song about gay women loving themselves and each other than they are over misogynistic and violent male artists who brag about how shittily they treat women
They make me uncomfortable, not in a way because I looks like a pussy, but because it makes my knees have phantom pains because it looks like some horrible bow legged condition when she walks.
Oh. I didn't know that it existed thanks for telling me but I stand by my opinion. When you listen to this song it's provocative but what makes it unique is the delicateness in her voice and Stephen Tyler's voice isn't close is it?
roni thacker not original? what did you just say? this definetly draws inspiration from aerosmiths pink, yet its so very different lyrically, melodically that call it a cover is a huge reach
Pancake 77 i I said a more modern cover the songs trying to be futuristic. then it's with that same old political b******* that every other f****** artist is doing getting political going feminist and lesbian acting like it's something new when people like Freddy Mercury and the Village People and a lot of other artists throughout the 80s been done that a long time ago. Basically everything's been done this isn't shocking this isn't new this isn't life changing get over it. It's cheap it's stupid and a woman's vagina and her sexuality is not her strength. Also only white women have pink of vaginas so there's a lot of white appropriation
Juan Pablo Cifuentes Not completely sure but I think it’s referring to a certain “man of power” when he said something similar to “grab her by the pussy”.
somehow, for someone who alway wince seeing women get exploited sexually in media this is as explicit at it gets but its not uncomfortable to watch. tasteful, no matter how some pearl clutchers bemoan at someone singing about genitalias insist otherwise. its feminime and soft and nice, a good calming break from her other absolute bangers in the album. celebrating their sexuality, not because its the only part that defines them, but because it always has been regarded as something that should be hidden, being ashamed of, no matter its shape. win this grammy, auntie janelle. i love you. you do you.
It's because it's not about sexual exploitation, it's about sexual liberation. This video is amazing and beautiful because these women aren't being used like product placement, and sex (and sexuality) isn't being sold, but celebrated.
has anyone ever really talked about how much of a sound chameleon she is? all of her albums show such a diversity of genre inspirations, and her vocal range is buck wild (thinking mostly of 'come alive'); it all comes together as distinctly her sound, though, and this song is no different
pennyfarthing I always want to talk about this with literally anyone! But for the most part no people don’t give her credit all of her range & her ability to step into any genre and make it her own!
Pop... R&B... Funk... Hip hop... Soul... Dance.... Disco... the queen can do it all. What artist has collaborated with both Prince AND Grimes? Big Boi AND fun? Erykah Badu AND Miguel???
Don't really see how people could be offended by this. I'm a young, straight, white guy and Janelle Monae is a musical genius. Her production and aesthetics are incredible.
@Adriane - it's come up in interviews with her that he mentored her a fair bit. I'm not going to say it's all down to him, but I think it's also no accident that her most sexually expressive stuff has come since he died.
how in the heck did one person (or a small team of people) manage to write a song that's simultaneously about sexuality, women's rights, poc rights, AND manage to use the brilliant line of "if you've got the blue(s), then we've got the pink"? I AM SHOOK
I love, just LOVE the way she sings “some like that”, it just feels so freeing as if she’s saying we like what we like and we aren’t harming anyone. It shouldn’t offend anyone but then again people just love sticking their noses where they don’t belong. Whatever this is a great song. ❤️❤️❤️
First Last Lol. It's not because someone is queer than she's portraying it or talking about it. I said it was up to interpretations because if you pay closer attention to the lyrics it's simply a girl talking about another girl's vagin. Really, you can read it like they are having sex and she's enjoying it and talking about how gorgeous the vagina of her partner looks OR it's just about two straight women enjoying artistically their mutual womenhood/vaginas (considering it is still such a taboo to talk, portray in a glamourous, ordinar way this genital, it's a great message of women empowerment) OR it can be both. See, Up to interpretations. Eitheir way I'm in love with this song.

The first time I heard this song I cried real tears... idk it just brings me to a place where I don’t have to be stressed or ashamed about my body or my sexuality or who I love (I’m bi/pan?? Idk I just like hot people lol) and it makes me really happy. It’s saying that it’s okay for me to be a sexual being, but that I am still more than that, if that makes any sense? It doesn’t make me feel dirty like when I get catcalled or when someone stares at my body. Idk if I’m making any sense lol but hopefully someone sees this and gets it. 💜
Y'all haters are just too terrified that women can have sexual power. I'm not even comfortable with everything in the video, but I think Janelle is absolutely brilliant
ecstatic lillium I love her music and I am a male who supports women’s rights, however, I just don’t see how this will prove to the haters that women are equal (Keep in mind I AM NOT HATING). I genuinely don’t understand how this song will make men understand better about the issues that women have to face. Please open-mind me because I love women’s rights and I want to learn better about this. Again, I am not hating.
@@hbtv3765 I don't think it necessarily SHOWS the issues women have to deal with. The video allows women to claim being "sexual" without it having anything to do with men. It is about women, for women, and is not to corrupt our minds (to others who have said that, not you). I just think that some people may feel particularly challenged by the video, and yes, that can be the point, but it also is simply there for anyone who is a female.
ecstatic lillium Thank you. I thought the concept of the video was to persuade corrupted minds of men like Ben Shapiro to be informed about the inequality in this world, lol. I am so glad to hear that people like him are fighting back. It definitely proves her point about the struggles a lot of people face on a daily basis and I am also glad that she speaks out against this problem. Same goes with other topics like race, sex, religion, etc. I am definitely more informed now.
women have had sexual power for 50+ years, never mind historically how many wars were fought by men over women. if you think this shit is “empowering” perhaps that’s the reason why you feel powerless
People keep saying this song is really gross and obscene but I'm not seeing it? They're talking about vaginas but that doesn't mean they're being obscene or crude about it
I thought the pants and pushing the girl through it was a little too much (a little too obvious and silly for me...), but other than that it wasn’t that bad. I think some people aren’t gonna like the booties and the sex cell panties and all the _generally_ inappropriate things (not normally seen and obvious to what they’re trying to talk about). Definitely wasn’t expecting this to be about vaginas though lol, but it is very obvious. Many people will just see that as obscene right off the bat because of that lol. Not really sure how you guys are surprised actually 🤔 Also, people might not like that it’s sexual. Like, all of these women are attractive and similar looking (general image of sexy for a girl) and they put sex cells on the panties lol, but vaginas are also reproductive cells. Like they’re made for reproduction, not for little girl panty time. Just a thought lol
At the end of the song, I'm moved to tears, I'm a grown ass man, and this is just so beautiful, Yes my queens of all persuasions, I'll be a feminist till the day I die or equality is real, we all come from pink, this is fucking beautiful

Man my soul died and transcended to another dimension. this bop is a whole new experience for my brain. Janelle is honestly a queen that's so iconic that is able to make me sing a whole song about vaginas and not be sorry about it 20gayteen is blessing me so much
Literally love how people waste their time hating on this. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. For some people it’s empowering okay? Sorry that it doesn’t exactly align with what you think
Dark skinned girls with bright colored clothes make me really happy, it just looks soo beautiful. Also this song makes me very happy as a bisexual woman 💜
+BB Bailey shit up bitch it's still empowering how can you get a negative connotation from a simple post you just want people to argue with you and that's not going to happen I reply to you once I'm not going to reply anymore
Straight man here. When I saw the labia pants, I immediately burst out laughing. Then I shuffled uncomfortably. Then halfway through, I was grooving to the music and appreciating the dancing and what it means. Also, upon second viewing, that labia outfit is rad as hell. Look at me get over myself to try to understand the art better. You can do it too.
@GMo Kang-Suh - See what happens when you try to support these low-class freaks? They attack you, they shit all over you. Anyone who thinks that this vulgar trash is "art" and "genius" is an immature moron. Janelle Monáe's alleged "artistry" is laughable, to put it mildly. She'll never be big, because she just doesn't have the talent to attract a wide audience. She can only appeal to her tiny group of immature fans who are foolish enough to confuse outrageously vulgar behavior with meaningful art. Taylor Swift, to name one example, doesn't need to wear labia pants in order to get attention.
I have never met one person that hates black people, women, or queerness in this day and age. Of course there are very few and there always will be but they get ostracized as they should. And I’ve lived all over. The problem is the people that probably side with you, have a problem with entitlement. Which is why I feel bad for them. Because they blame their problems on anything but them instead of doing something about it. But as for the song, it was super sexy and better than most music I hear as of late but that’s not saying much.
+Lilly Stark you're very privileged to live in a place where hatred isn't well-accepted and abundant but don't assume that our experience is the same as yours.
Isadore Weiss I won’t assume anything because anything is possible. But generally speaking, that experience is the same if you live in America. The problem comes to human psychology. Someone like you, or the socially far left, saying “Your privileged” is indirectly backing the mindset of “I’m not privileged.” This concept often sprouts from insecurity due to a lack of understanding of oneself at some point in someone’s life. That then leaves you vulnerable. You can take two actions, put your energy into your passions and developing as your own person. Or band wagon onto an existing rhetoric or idea that may or may not be true to satisfy your innate desire to fight for something. Problem is that that innate desire is so strong a lot of times that you’ll believe and perceive things a certain way just to fit a rhetoric that you adopted to feed that hunger more quickly as opposed to developing as a person and following your passions. It’s like instant gratification for that hunger that doesn’t satisfy in the long run. And then you get tricked into thinking that instant answer to your hunger is your passion. That is all based in psychology, but they don’t teach that part.
Never knew i liked pynk..then seen Janelle! All the feels, the love we should have for ourselves and each other. Not many artists who just oooze magic and talent. She is incredibly!!! you go goddess ✨😍
The song goes hand in hand with the MV and she is Bisexual, I believe. This is both her being proud of what she was born as and also her way of showing her preference as a partner, whether sexually or romantically. Just because she is openly expressing herself doesn't make her any less of a woman and also doesn't make her any less of a lady. That is like saying a man constantly talking about his dick and how amazing it is makes them any less of a man. That is backwards logic and causes more harm to a society than it causes good. Honestly, I don't really understand why people got so butt hurt about it, if I'm being completely honest.
1: This song is the lesbian/bisexual and pop equivalent of any "fuck me, bitch" hip hop song. The lyrics aren't anything deep. 2: Any man who constantly talks about his dick, and how amazing it is, is instantly less of a man. Honestly, if anything, people are fine if a woman does that with her own body. It just shouldn't be viewed as "inspiring" and "motivational", like this has, because it's only really degrading. Again, the only difference between this and any "fuck me, bitch" hip hop song is that it's lesbian/bisexual and pop. 3. Being against oversexualization is harmful to society now apparently. I guess feminism has done a complete 180 since when it first started. I'd like to consider myself a Feminist, but the name really doesn't mean what it used to anymore.
@@zachs.4371 Because men haven't exactly been oppressed in history. Not in America at least. Trump talks about grabbing pussy. Women were degraded, meant to seem polite and mature. Men can talk about their dicks all they want. They already do so a woman can't make a video that clearly feels empowering? Zach you are not on the right side of youtube for yourself buddy. Go watch football or some shit. Ur masculinity seems fragile
I love how the video and the lyrics are very sexual and yet it's not vulgar at all, (well, except for the middle fingers that looked hella aesthetic.) Sexualities, women's body parts, women in general, these aren't meant to be sexualized. They're only sexualized when people make them sexualized, and sure, yes, sometimes that sexualization is a good thing. We all have our kinks. But these aren't here just to turn people on.
I'm gay. That doesn't mean I have to be sexual. I'm a gay who isn't really into sex-at least, I don't think I am. Sexualities and sexualization are two totally different things, I hope you realize that. Straight is a sexuality. So is gay. So is Pan, Bi, Ace, Demi, on and on and on. But you know, they shouldn't be sexualized.
I am thankful to Ben Shapiro for sending people here to give Janelle Monae some UA-cam coin and for introducing this beautiful work of art to people who would never otherwise see such an amazing work of art.
She's so underrated! !! Been dropping fire for years! Deserve way more credits than given. ♥💣🔥 But I think her personality has something to do with it, she has not gone too " Hollywood " like most of those new artists. Anyhow, love her!
Historians discussing this video centuries from now: Ah yes, just ladies and their very good lady friends, just hanging out, as good friends, nothing more.
If I weren't a woman this would make me wish I were. As others have commented below, it's amazing to see an all WOC cast having a great time, loving each other, and enjoying their beauty and strength. Hopefully we will see more and more of that in media. It also means so much that Janelle chose transpositive imagery and lyrics. I wonder if any of the women in the cast are trans. Does anyone know?
Are we witnessing an album of the year?? I'm loving everything so far. Beautiful concept, videos, songs. 2018 may be the year Janelle took us to a new level!

Y’all really listening to Ben Shapiro?!? This song is not anti anyone it’s just celebrating women! Why is us being proud of our vaginas and being women so offensive???
@@Earthling108 did you not catch the song??? It was about self acceptance which includes privates. Did you not catch the fact that, you know, it's about sexuality and how she likes women?
Proud of mine’ and I’d like to be celebrated! But not for something so inane as the genitalia betw my legs but something I e accomplished or the content of character. It takes no strength, courage or dignity to celebrate one part of my body. As a woman, I am so much more than my vagina. Isn’t that what ye old patriarchy saw women as ? Just a vag w baby making ability!?
I completely agree! I hate to be objectified or reduced to a single aspect of my person (whether it be a body part or a 2-dimensional character trait). However, this song _is_ celebratory. When humans celebrate, usually it's a single thing being celebrated, like a new job, a birthday, a wedding, a homecoming, etc. Just because a single issue is being celebrated does not mean it is demeaning everything else in a person's life (a birthday party does not devalue that person's marriage). In the same way, while this video celebrates female sexuality and femininity, there is nothing within this song specifically demeaning anything. Also, you are correct, a body part is a body part. But what is actually being discussed is what that body part symbolizes. Often just discussion of female sexuality and female genitalia can be empowering for some in a society which tends to criticize, devalue, and repress sexually liberated women. Try thinking of it in different contexts, like a woman listening to it with a partner to celebrate one aspect of their relationship, particularly if they had troubles with sexual relations or had overcome miscommunication in that area. Or a sexual abuse victim taking back control of their perceptions of sexuality. This song has its own niche in the music world.

Ramola D'silva yes I like her voice too, it's just not original. He has been credited along with Grimes.
roni thacker not original? what did you just say?
this definetly draws inspiration from aerosmiths pink, yet its so very different lyrically, melodically that call it a cover is a huge reach
Aesthetic levels are outerspace
Also, one of my favorite parts is the undie saying "I Grab back"
WHat does that mean? I couldnt get it! pleasee

Not completely sure but I think it’s referring to a certain “man of power” when he said something similar to “grab her by the pussy”.

somehow, for someone who alway wince seeing women get exploited sexually in media this is as explicit at it gets but its not uncomfortable to watch. tasteful, no matter how some pearl clutchers bemoan at someone singing about genitalias insist otherwise. its feminime and soft and nice, a good calming break from her other absolute bangers in the album. celebrating their sexuality, not because its the only part that defines them, but because it always has been regarded as something that should be hidden, being ashamed of, no matter its shape. win this grammy, auntie janelle. i love you. you do you.

It's because it's not about sexual exploitation, it's about sexual liberation. This video is amazing and beautiful because these women aren't being used like product placement, and sex (and sexuality) isn't being sold, but celebrated.

has anyone ever really talked about how much of a sound chameleon she is? all of her albums show such a diversity of genre inspirations, and her vocal range is buck wild (thinking mostly of 'come alive'); it all comes together as distinctly her sound, though, and this song is no different
yeah true (and come alive was too crazy!)

He can see her.
@Adriane - it's come up in interviews with her that he mentored her a fair bit. I'm not going to say it's all down to him, but I think it's also no accident that her most sexually expressive stuff has come since he died.
Samantha Reagan he sees.👀
how in the heck did one person (or a small team of people) manage to write a song that's simultaneously about sexuality, women's rights, poc rights, AND manage to use the brilliant line of "if you've got the blue(s), then we've got the pink"? I AM SHOOK

I love, just LOVE the way she sings “some like that”, it just feels so freeing as if she’s saying we like what we like and we aren’t harming anyone. It shouldn’t offend anyone but then again people just love sticking their noses where they don’t belong.
Whatever this is a great song. ❤️❤️❤️
I've never viewed the color pink as it is depicted by this song. 10/10
Black female artist celebrating black females & queerness with creativity, beautiful aesthetics and original sound. THAT'S THE CONTENT I LOVE.
Maks I 💟 it too!
This isn’t really about queerness it’s more about embracing your sexual side
Taís Ferreira that's why i say queerness (?) I think it's still up to interpretation idk
She says "pink like your fingers in my". Straight women don't stick their fingers in other women's vaginas and if they do, they aren't straight.

Awww I also understand 😊
why does someone looking at you make you feel dirty? :(

I am definitely more informed now.
...
women have had sexual power for 50+ years, never mind historically how many wars were fought by men over women. if you think this shit is “empowering” perhaps that’s the reason why you feel powerless
People keep saying this song is really gross and obscene but I'm not seeing it? They're talking about vaginas but that doesn't mean they're being obscene or crude about it
Can't even imagine that people are really hating on this XD especially of this reason haha
How dumb people can be oh god xD
Its sexual but there's nothing toxic about it
I thought the pants and pushing the girl through it was a little too much (a little too obvious and silly for me...), but other than that it wasn’t that bad. Not really sure how you guys are surprised actually 🤔
Also, people might not like that it’s sexual. Like, all of these women are attractive and similar looking (general image of sexy for a girl) and they put sex cells on the panties lol, but vaginas are also reproductive cells. Like they’re made for reproduction, not for little girl panty time. Just a thought lol
You’re right, not to mention that this person sings REALLY well.
Paizleigh white so vaginas on display is normal ? This isn’t cute at all... it’s oddly disturbing
At the end of the song, I'm moved to tears, I'm a grown ass man, and this is just so beautiful, Yes my queens of all persuasions, I'll be a feminist till the day I die or equality is real, we all come from pink, this is fucking beautiful

For a song by a black woman about vaginas/queerness that is #2 on trending, the comment section is surprisingly lovely
I take it back lol
Why-
I have never met one person that hates black people, women, or queerness in this day and age.

I literally was listening to the ultra violet song right before this
The song goes hand in hand with the MV and she is Bisexual, I believe.

Love this!!

Lmao I love seeing trump supporters get all bent out of shape over a comment made on a UA-cam video. Why are you even here, Darichard?
sometimes i sort of forget how beautiful janelle monáe is and then i watch this and it’s like re-appreciating her all over again
You know, I found that life tends to be a happier experience when you just decide to be positive and stop hating. Hating is too much energy... if you want to spread hate, then please leave 😊😘 only love and acceptance is allowed beyond this point 💫

Fascism with a smile is still fascism
Sweeet that means you don't hate conservative Jews right
If I ever made a song that Ben Shapiro LIKED, I would seriously reconsider my life.
I don't think he listens to music with words
@@robertgaskill5340 Ben Shapiro doesn't listen to words at all.
@@ArchKnight28 Lol!
@@Shockguey what do you mean by that? Why him being jew has anything to do with this?
(I'm jew as well😅)
Lmao
Why isn't she the president
I know, right?
Because she doesn't use logic
Because trump is
Because singing songs about genitalia is not empowering
Just give it time.

Pink like the inside of your, baby
Pink behind all of the doors, crazy
Pink like the tongue that goes down, maybe
Pink like the paradise found
Pink when you're blushing inside, baby
Pink is the truth you can't hide, maybe
Pink like the folds of your brain, crazy
Pink as we all go insane
So, here we are in the car
Leaving traces of us down the boulevard
I wanna fall through the stars
Getting lost in the dark is my favorite part
Let's count the ways we could make this last forever
Sunny, money, keep it funky
Touch your top and let it down
Ah, yeah
Some like that

Ah, yeah

'Cause boy it's cool if you got blue
We got the pink

I love women taking charge of their sexuality and making women bodies normalized, not hiding them! 💕
It’s sad that people come to videos just to hate. You don’t have anything better to do? Most of the haters here wouldn’t have known this song existed if it wasn’t for Ben Shapiro. He said something negative about it so you probably agree with him and still decided to come here just to watch probably 30 seconds then hate. Why is it so hard for people to be positive. I personally love the song so much.
Nah it takes like 3 minutes or less. Is every single thing you do throughout your week completely productive? Or do you ever do things to goof off for a couple minutes
@@barennis sorry to reply 2 months later. You're entitled to your opinion, but when literally every person saying the song "is lame" or "distasteful" has a name like "John" or "Scott" or "memelordxdxd" it starts to look like a bunch of insecure white boys. Not to say you are (idk what you are), but it just looks sus
Y’all really listening to Ben Shapiro?!? This song is not anti anyone it’s just celebrating women! Why is us being proud of our vaginas and being women so offensive???
Ikr
Because as women we have more to be proud of than our genitalia (which remain covered at most times)
I love this video !!! It’s unapologetic...
so... i'm a 50y/o white chick who clicked one of her videos on youtube and watched it. 45 MINUTES LATER... still watching all her videos! Who is this cool axx woman????!!!! Love her! I love the way she dances too, she has some great moves. Go beautiful woman!!! (ps...keeping pissing off straight men/women who hate because your songs/videos remind them of how normal they are)
Wow...

It's just her..
Anything she sings I'm listening to
i like to imagine that janelle just found those pants and was like. i need these in a music video. and she just wrote an entire song based around them so she could wear them.
This is like pop alternative. I’m really feeling this. Definitely, I can move my head and shoulders to this in my car. I have a feeling the move I listen to this the more I’ll fall in love with it.
