I love that this song seems to be so uplifting to communities JM has always be part of-and also, has so deeply resonated with random people (like me) from well outside those communities. This album came out on my lonely 40th birthday and I waited patiently for it to drop-and I spent the next 10 hours in bed, playing it start to finish-one gut punch and one liberating act of defiance after another. I’ll never forget that feeling-acknowledging the terrible collective despair of this world, while sticking out both middle fingers and clawing our way out, and busting the doors down. I can’t think of anything so universally liberating and empowering, regardless of you identity, class, geographic location. This album is keystone of a movement.
