Peter Gabriel, a paternal voice, a wonderful song writer, a heart of gold pro-human rights worker. He could be bipolar, he could be crazy, he could be whatever people wants to call him, but I know if more people would think like him, this world would be more peaceful.
I swear, Peter cannot make a bad song. He has a rare ability to lift your mood, like a hot chocolate on a cold day. Such a gifted musician in addition to being a blissfully handsome man...it leaves a permanent smile in your heart :)
Wore this song out when I played it after my good friend's violent death back in 1980's. Seems like with all the senseless violence in the the U.S. and the world its the perfect theme song for the world - sadly today. Peter Gabriel songs are the sondtrack of my life...thank you Peter...and God Rest your soul in peace Carmine.
This is the tour I saw--in November, in Nancy, France. Amazing show! with Sir Robert of Fripp (known that night as "Dusty Roads") playing from a stool behind the speaker stacks. P.S. That guitarist, Sid McGinnis, went on to an AMAZING 45 year career with Paul Schaffer and the World's Most Dangerous Band on David Letterman's many late night show incarnations.
I saw Peter perform this in concert around this time , and at the end of the song he sat at the edge of the stage , as he does here , ran his fingers through his hair to make it stick up , before making the childlike la la las while making childlike expressions on his face . Make of that what you will . Regressing back to childhood perhaps ?
Grazie Peter per questo momento che solo oggi sono in grado di vedere...allora ero un ragazzetto ma oggi posso apprezzare emozionandomi un pò, thanx to UA-cam here!
I used to think the "la la la"s at the end were goofy but only since growing up and listening closer to the lyrics did I make the connection that it's no coincidence; he is mimicking child sounds.
This Song hits me so deep! Always choking and crying, even I know it for so long. And when I see this vid it hits me deeper. Gabriel doesn´t look good in this session! I hope it depends to his profession to produce feelings. But I´m glad this song exists, ´cause it means so much, to me. (fil of ffl)
i have to side with sparrow...i also love PG's strawberry, one of my fave Beatles songs btw, & i still own the vinyl of "all this and WWII" not to mention all the vinyl Peter has released including a Security sung completely in German...i know this doesn't mean anything 30 years later, i guess i'm just a fuddyduddy tho' given that Bach's own sons called him that i think i'm okay
Hmm, sorry I can't say I agree. I love his cover of Strawberry Fields! It's strained, beautiful, modest and branded with that individual 'Gabriel' quality that moves me beyond words. I love him ;)
I third this. =)The Spencer Bright telling of the drug story is a really funny one indeed. Peter is just one of those characters where "high on life" applies.
fripp toured with him in canada---gabriel tells the audience--"if you are good boys and girls--you might get a surprise"...the surpise is 22 seconds later--:ladies and gentlemen--Mr Robert Fripp"--check chubb FM-circa 1977-1979--love Jeff
Mouth all dry, eyes bloodshot, Data stored on a microdot. Kicking the cloud with my moccasin shoes, TV dinner, TV news. Fear, Fear, she's the mother of Violence, Don't make any sense to watch the way she breed. Fear, she's the mother of Violence, Making me tense to watch the way she feed. The only way you know she's there Is the subtle flavor in the air. Getting hard to breathe, Getting hard to believe in anything at all But Fear.
ohhh i so second that and i'm so glad there are people like you to answer correctly to ignorant idiots like sketchyfolk.. 'fan beyond fans' LOL.. as for Peter and MOV.. i adore the song. and Peter is so.. Peter! as someone said below :)) thanks!
hahah LOL! hahah that´s true! what a face.. ok my friends, I´ll be back...going to Foro sol to presence PETER GABRIEL´s gig in Mexico City...I´m the happiest man see ya! and watch my videos..
Yeah PGs "friends" missed out in this and many other things as a result of him having to move on - glad he did though. Bit like the CSNY thing in away leaving stuff behind
No need to be so angry. I'm a massive fan of Peter but even if he IS bipolar, it's not a bad thing. In fact some of the greatest writers and musicians in the world suffer from it. Beethoven and Stephen Fry but to name a few :)
Those aren't child sounds in the actual album release... they are lyrics. The closest rendering I've been able to make out is: Better to die than singing loud and saying that you meant about it. Romantic baby….Han nana na na. Better to die than be a god that’s living in the moment. How did you relieve the dome while you were black? If anyone has better ears than I do, or a source of an accurate rendering, PLEASE help me get them right.
are you talking to me about the migbhty boosh? Im confused lol And dont worry, my other comment was directed at freebeings, not you. I can tell you like Peter very much! (like me) :)
Not stoned, just making the live performance more interesting by making the ending feel creepy and disturbing, like the subject matter suggests. He's a pro.
Peter Gabriel, a paternal voice, a wonderful song writer, a heart of gold pro-human rights worker. He could be bipolar, he could be crazy, he could be whatever people wants to call him, but I know if more people would think like him, this world would be more peaceful.
He's one of a kind artist.
yes, he is one of a kind but we need millions of the same please
Some of us always do we hallucinate, think outside the box, and shed tears often, have dreams precognitive dreams about future of mankind.....
Peter channeling the wisdom the Lord 🙏 and sages from the past to eternity
I swear, Peter cannot make a bad song. He has a rare ability to lift your mood, like a hot chocolate on a cold day. Such a gifted musician in addition to being a blissfully handsome man...it leaves a permanent smile in your heart :)
1978 , this is 45 years old and so good
Wow!!! PG is a genius song writer and performer. The world is a better place because of him. 😍
One of my fave Gabriel tunes.
i love this song! Peter is a genius!!
One of his greatest songs, and my personal favorite.
this is what happens when the right kind of middle class white boy expresses gospel and the blues.
No fakin, just the heart
Just perfect... Almost made me cry... how beauty is here :)
I keep listening to this song over and over... He's just got this great gentle, smoky voice that is just perfect for songs like this.
Wore this song out when I played it after my good friend's violent death back in 1980's.

Wow amazing...i saw that with Fripp...my favorite song from PG just perfect...
Beautifully understated delivery. A great song which doesn't need to be pushed or forced. Effortlessly wonderful.

The "World's most Dangerous band". Led by the menacing Paul Schaffer on Piano and lead vocals! Lol. That ALWAYS cracked me up.
No songs from this album made it onto his greatest hits album. Not his most commercial album but still well worth a listen.
His best record.
I saw Peter perform this in concert around this time , and at the end of the song he sat at the edge of the stage , as he does here , ran his fingers through his hair to make it stick up , before making the childlike la la las while making childlike expressions on his face . Fantastic, my favourite out of his early solo albums. Merci beaucoup.
One of my favourite Gabriel songs.
What a fabulous video! Peter channeling his inner Joker at the end.
Grazie Peter per questo momento che solo oggi sono in grado di vedere...allora ero un ragazzetto ma oggi posso apprezzare emozionandomi un pò, thanx to UA-cam here!
^^ The End - Face reminds me of Genesis - Times
Wow so nice
Bela canção, uma peculiar interpretação. Peter Gabriel é um artista completo, um ícone da música contemporânea com todo mérito.
took a chance to see if this song was posted...didn't expect to see this!!!ty ty for posting!!!!!
I used to think the "la la la"s at the end were goofy but only since growing up and listening closer to the lyrics did I make the connection that it's no coincidence; he is mimicking child sounds.
I never saw pg on drugs before and I am a fan beyond fans..he is feeling no pain here..god bless!
Pure.

Beautiful tune, from a Beautiful soul!
Saw him live Four Times. Only Camel Can compete.
Would like to see King Crimson live!
Thanks for this - one of my favorite songs.
Glad you like it--but there is so much more!!!!-Check out Anthony Phillips

Hmm, sorry I can't say I agree. I love his cover of Strawberry Fields! It's strained, beautiful, modest and branded with that individual 'Gabriel' quality that moves me beyond words. I love him ;)
Genius.

Great! It's true: very rare! ;-) thanks to share this video...
totally tired and demented in a positive way . great performance !
❤️❤️
great song.
One of his best--written by his wife I believe (Jill)---produced by Fripp (of course)--SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Wow, really - his wife wrote this? Amazing song.
true story!!
Now I like this song even more (written from a woman's perspective), and yes, I agree, one of the most beautiful songs ever!
amen
Susan Aitchison
Totally TRUE!!
I third this. =)The Spencer Bright telling of the drug story is a really funny one indeed. Peter is just one of those characters where "high on life" applies.
f-king brilliant!
I Love His Jim Carrey Impression at the end.....:)
fripp toured with him in canada---gabriel tells the audience--"if you are good boys and girls--you might get a surprise"...the surpise is 22 seconds later--:ladies and gentlemen--Mr Robert Fripp"--check chubb FM-circa 1977-1979--love Jeff
the best in the album
Wow, that end was so disturbing, haha. Love that song though. Thanks for posting this!
TheDailyVinyl approves this video. Peter Gabriel rules.
Schönen Dank dafür.
Mercie boku, oder wie man das schreibt.
Thanks a lot for this.I enjoy it often
NICE!
...and some great sounds from mr. fripp who is not really there ;-)
That's got to be one of the most bizarre compliments I've ever read about a singer (or anyone) ever... o_O
Mouth all dry, eyes bloodshot,
Data stored on a microdot.
Kicking the cloud with my moccasin shoes,
TV dinner, TV news.
Fear, Fear, she's the mother of Violence,
Don't make any sense to watch the way she breed.
Fear, she's the mother of Violence,
Making me tense to watch the way she feed.
The only way you know she's there
Is the subtle flavor in the air.
Getting hard to breathe,
Getting hard to believe in anything at all
But Fear.
Timidamente SPACCA !!!
anyway is an awsome song.
@gonzataker not Fripp. I believe that's actually Liev Schrieber on guitar ;)
ohhh i so second that and i'm so glad there are people like you to answer correctly to ignorant idiots like sketchyfolk.. 'fan beyond fans' LOL.. as for Peter and MOV.. i adore the song. and Peter is so.. Peter! as someone said below :)) thanks!
@shjoed it's him, he played with him during his first two albums.
hahah LOL! hahah that´s true! what a face..
ok my friends, I´ll be back...going to Foro sol to presence PETER GABRIEL´s gig in Mexico City...I´m the happiest man see ya! and watch my videos..
This could easily have been a Genesis song had gabriel stayed in the band...has that vibe to it.
Yeah PGs "friends" missed out in this and many other things as a result of him having to move on - glad he did though. Bit like the CSNY thing in away leaving stuff behind
Wow, the piano is really beautiful on the studio version. Is that PG himself?
No, it's Roy Bittan on studio version, pianist of the Springsteen’s E Street Band.
FUCKING AWESOME !!
That's Sid McGuiness on guitar from Letterman's late show band The CBS Orchestra
McGinnis - He played the acoustic guitar part on the record.
3:01
Nightmares. I hear that in my nightmares.
But. Wow.
Puestisimo mí querido Peter

the guiar player is ROBERT FRIPP, WAW.
are you talking to me about the migbhty boosh? Im confused lol
And dont worry, my other comment was directed at freebeings, not you. I can tell you like Peter very much! (like me) :)
Is that Robert Fripp on the guitar?
It's Robert Fripp the guitar??
Is that Tony Levin on guitar with him?
I'm not sure with all that hair :P
Sid McGinnis
@shjoed it does look like him... but iam not sure.. anyone?
I know PG has always been "clean", but doesn't he look high as a kite in this vid? :D
Tired, I think is the word you're looking for :)
Just completely stoned.
Great song, still.
That was also my first impression. But then I thought he must just be tired.
Being tired made more sense in my mind. But who knows... and who cares.
Not stoned, just making the live performance more interesting by making the ending feel creepy and disturbing, like the subject matter suggests. He's a pro.
Who r these guys?
Hauntingly creepy and poignant.
Around 3:11-3:18, Gabriel has a creepy face.
though, he ruined the song at the end, this is my fav from the album.
