    Featured Musicians:

    Peter Gabriel - vocals
    Tony Levin - bass
    Jerry Marotta - drums
    Sid McGinnis - guitars

Stunning performance of such an inspiring spirited song. PG solo would not be PG without Tony Levin. His bass game is so creative. Respect 🙏

i was at this show! i spent 8 hours on line to get in (300 capacity). the encore was "when the flood comes" and robert fripp who had been in the audience until then, came up on stage and played guitar.

I remember hearing this on "King Bisquit Flower Hour". I use to live for that show on Sunday's. Larry really sounds great with his strings on here.

This was recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, a syndicated radio program. And yes, that's Robert Fripp playing the solo at the end.
What's even weirder is that Timmy Cappello, later the '80s most revolting saxophonist (see Tina Turner's videos from that era) was playing keyboards.

Are you sure it was Fripp playing the solo in the end and not Sid McGuiness? I think Fripp didn’t play on Gabriel tours ?

Didn't Fripp hide in the wings and play for some of Peter's gigs?

    • @Kwinquark1
      @Kwinquark1 2 роки тому

Quite possible Fripp was involved, but that ''hide in the wings' ain't as daft as it sounds - he did indeed do that, but only in the USA as far as I know. On his butt in a chair (as per norm) when he played over here in boring ole UK.

In that gig, Fripp only did the guitar solo in the encore "here comes the flood". In this song, "white shadow", it was Syd Mcguinnis. In the album, was Robert Fripp. The song is one of the best songs ever. To me, only Red Rain is at that level. There are no words to describe how good it is, and of course, peter should have played it in every one and single concert since 1978 to 2024, but everybody knows that the artists don't choose the tracking lists for their concerts thinking in "the best songs", but in "the songs I want to play for them" (which includes a lot of reasons).

October 4, 1978 was my last night in L.A. for my 21st birthday. My brother went to see Al Stewart over at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium that night.

I am so glad to have discovered these early PG video's. I've always been a big fan, but once I saw the Rockpalast 1978 video I was blown away!
Peter Gabriel - Rockpalast 1978 (full show)
I spent three weeks listening not stop to every PG album literally non stop. And I was amazed when I finally got to UP, and heard him go right back to his solo roots :-)
    What an artist.

I really enjoyed looking at the pictures while listening to this one (something I find I don't usually do). Many I've seen before, but they're all cool shots. The pic disc & the cake were neat! But I noticed the shot on the TV @ 2:43 is the band from French TV performing Humdrum, which you can find right here on UA-cam (just do a search for Humdrum and Mother of Violence and you can see both tunes).

I saw this tour at the Uptown Theater in Chicago. It was my first Gabriel gig. I was STUNNED!!! All the bands' members had their backs to the audience and one by one the guys in exotic cadence would do a 180 to the audience. By the way, does anyone have the video for the 'Exposure' performance. Peter entered from stage right, all the while crawling on the floor. Very effectively surreal,........per usual.

@twostikks1 that's cool that the french performance is on youtube. I believe that particular photo (as well as the cake) was borrowed from Larry Fast's web site. The photo would be of the performance when it was being broadcast.

@FerranK68 Bob Ezrin produced PG1. If Bob Ezrin's name sounds familiar, it's because he produced a bunch of classic albums... Pink Floyd - The Wall (and Momentary Lapse, Division Bell), Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare (and just about everything else by AC), Kiss - Destroyer, Lou Reed - Berlin

Levin, but not Fripp. that's Sid McGuinness doing a (tepid, in my opinion) stand-in for Fripp's solo at the end. Fripp did make a special guest appearance for this show, since he lived in NYC at the time; he played on the last song of the set ('modern love') and the first two songs of the encore ('all day and all of the night' by the kinks and the amazing 'here comes the flood').

@crimfan Exactly! I couldn't remember it!!! Thanks :) "Dusty Rhoades" was Mr Fripp used like a "Undercoved name" (As P. Hammill maybe could said) About the production of PG1 I'm not doubt your affirmation, but I will to see to corroborate it. About Mr. Fripp (And Hammill too) musical pitions like a workers, with his dignity and rejecting the "mass media" (You know Mr. Fripp ethic' principles he put in all of DGM CD's... ) I share absolutly his words. He only defens his works. Yours FCN :)

@FerranK68 Bob Ezrin produced PG 1! But you're right, Fripp was in his "weird" period then and was announced as Dusty Rhoades or something like that.

@drcid777 Fripp and Gabriel were playing with arrangements on Exposure. The version of Here Comes the Flood on Exposure is really amazing, too. Despite the presence of the Dick White guitar solo on Flood on PG1 (the one produced by Ezrin), the song is generally rather overdone. I have worked out a solid guitar arrangement but really should learn to do it on piano.

Thanks for posting, he was great live but I agree with cairnstone- without Fripp it has lost it's punch and most of its structure. Why is Fripp's version of Exposure better than Gabriel's (even though Peter wrote it)? Only three people are performing on Fripp's; Gabriel on vocals, Fripp on guitar, Eno on keyboards. Hard to beat

@crimfan Robert Fripp Produced PG 1 & PG 2 (Pieces like "White shadow, Mother of Violence, Exposure.. are playing by him, but Gabriiel eplainn that to play live concerts with him was impossible. Fripp do`'t want lighits over him, stay sitting (like Always) and he did'nt to appears with his name on posters or publications on Tour (Olly accepepted a strange undercover name) Play both was not possible because Gabriel is a Show man and Fripp is an Antidivo
