I was back into gaming by the time Zelda came out on the 3ds, but it was one of the games I truly got excited for. I've only played through it one time, and was really hoping it would get a port to the big screen so I can replay it there. I've fallen away from handheld gaming in recent years.

Awesome I made that 3d printed cart for Riggs. I gave it to him at midwest gaming classic I believe. I'm glad it made it home safely with him. Also shout out to Video game Votary with the Mario in the background I made. This video made my day. Thanks.

When I was 6 I broke my pelvis in a bicycle accident and ended up in a body cast for a few months. It was tough because I was in pain and couldn't go out and play with my friends. My grandma surprised me with an SNES and Street Fighter 2, which changed my life forever. Love you and miss you, grandma.

Amazing video. For me it could have been RE 2 Remake. I had a xp with motion captue and in 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the 'model' role of Leon for the Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity... Great video and Happy Christmas!

Great video. I love these kinds of stories as it goes to show that despite what my parents and teachers said growing up (Nothing in your life will amount from playing video games) there are people who have had life-altering events related to/around video games. I've had a lot of amazing moments related to friends and video games- 007 Goldeneye multiplayer, Smash Bros Melee, Dungeon Explorer on TGfx16, but I would have to say that it was the Legend of Zelda ocarina of time on N64. I can remember the joy of playing it at my uncles house only to go home and constantly wish I had my own N64 to play it, I begged for one for Christmas only to not get it due to it being too expensive for my parents at the time. I had to settle for playing snip-its a couple times a year at my uncle's house (when the family wasn't duking it out on Goldeneye). I think I played the opening and Great Deku Tree 5 times over. The following year however, Santa delivered. Along with a brand new N64 console came Ocarina of Time and I could finally move past the Kokiri village. To date I have played through Ocarina of Time almost 2 dozen times between various systems. It started my obsession with games that continues to this day.

When I was a kid and visiting Grandma every other weekend, we would play Kirby's Adventure together. It was escapism for both of us since my parents were going through a very rough time. That changed my life. I stopped playing for a number of years after Grandma passed. It was just too difficult for me, cuz all my gaming memories were with her. But about two years ago, I met some amazing friends who wanted to play Mario Kart 8. That was special to me so I started playing again. Both of those games were literal life changers 🙂

Damn Dan got me here shedding a tear from your story of 007. Video games to some people would think it’s a joke or waste of time. But they sure do can while a special place in our hearts. Pokémon red was that for me when I was 8 when it launched.

Halo 2, watching a friend play it at his house was life changing for me. So much so that I got a OG Xbox for myself after being out of gaming for 10+ years. It helped me get through a tough time in my life and got me back into gaming that I continue to enjoy today. I still remember watching him play it like it was yesterday and which is why the Halo series will remain dear to my heart.

Mort has a good comment on how a game can impact a lot but not necessarily change, and as most of us millennials grew up with games, so many have impacted us. Sure, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt is my first big intro to games.. then Major League Baseball on Genesis and Shinobi III and TMNT and 1080 Snowboarding, RUSH, Extreme G... but Ocarina of Time, as mainstream as it is, completely brought me into the rabbit hole. Being young and seeing the POV of the Fairy to start was mindblowing. I printed the walkthrough on an old dot matrix printer my mom had. The adventure was unbelievable and made video games a pillar in my life.

this is your nephew here (you could guess who it is) but i just wanted to share a game that changed my life.
which was bonelab and boneworks which i have 764.5 hours in on steam. the game aimed to make realistic physics in a vr enivorment
similar to Half-Life. i specifically remember dropping a marker at school and trying to force grab it in real life which was a feature of the game where you could grab objects from far away. but yeah that was an impactful game for me. sad i cant play anymore till christmas as my link cable broke yesterday. 😭

6:00 then by that logic, the tropes in movies are just from novels or plays , so maybe it’s the novels or plays that are life-changing, but then those tropes come from oral narratives, so maybe that’s what’s life-changing and we pass the credit as far down the line as possible until it’s all meaningless

    • @MortsGarage
      @MortsGarage 19 днів тому +1

Sure, fine. But the synthesis of cinematography, music, writing, etc culminates in movies in ways that theater doesn’t for me.
I think games actually have a unique opportunity to make players feel something different than movies can but no one has done that for me yet. I hope some day they do :)

And I loved seeing little Elisa in those pics!!! I also get teary eyed over her story cuz I am just picturing her and her brothers finally getting that sweet haul with the third controller AND the strategy guide, so awesome! Kid me loved strategy guides so much, like I would take those bad boys on road trips with me. (I did not have a gameboy to play on trips lol)

Mine wasn’t a game but more a console. Anyone who is an older gamer (I am an 80s kid myself). Probably went thru multiple phases of gaming. You kid with the NES (great memories with my dad), to teenager with a SNES, young adult with ps1 to a college kid with a ps2. But I kind of fell out of gaming from like 2009-2017. I had kids, adult responsibilities, got into other hobbies like running. What brought me back was the snes mini. I got into gaming subreddits on how to mod it play hundreds of games. Started playing games I didn’t beat or play as a kid. My kids got into gaming because I was into it. We talk about games, coop games. Started watching gaming UA-cam channels. So for me it was the SNES mini that reminded me my love of gaming not just a particular game.

I started gaming when I was really little, my older brother gave me his sega genesis and his ps1. I’ve been playing video games since I can remember. In junior high, COD 4 came out and my buddy had a Xbox 360. One day me and a bunch of my friends all stayed the night over his house and I got my turn on the 360 playing online for the first time. It was game changing for me. Ground breaking actually. I stayed up in his living room alone ALL NIGHT playing cod4. Until the morning when his mom came down stairs and here I was still gaming 😂😂

When I got the NES for my birthday as a young kid, my friend told me to buy with my birthday money Ultima: Exodus for the NES. I liked RPGs, as I played Tabletop D&D at that time, so I went along with his suggestion.
At that time, American culture was such that kids mostly stayed outside and played from the time they got home from school until it was time for dinner, and even after dinner, until it was time to take a bath and go to bed.
When I got Ultima: Exodus, and turned it on.... I never went outside and played again lol. I was nonstop into gaming from that point on.
Side note, and really incredible... something I just learned about a few days ago... the guy who made the soundtrack for the Ultima: Exodus (The NES version), actually wrote Japanese idol songs too, including songs for AKB48. I loved the soundtrack for Ultima: Exodus, and I remember the music the most about that game than anything else. And now... funny enough, I live in Japan and work with idols, and got my introduction to idols via AKB48!
    Crazy how life works.
Thanks for this video. Been a long time fan of you and Davidinc and Retro Rick, but hadn't commented on your vids until now. For me it's Metal Gear Solid on the PS1. I had moved away from gaming as I started playing sports. I was at a friends house and his brother was home from college and was playing MGS which had just come out. I had never seen a game like this. So cinematic and story driven. I couldn't stop thinking about it and used my christmas money to get a PS1 and the game. Maybe would have stopped gaming altogether without seeing that game.

I have sat and thought and I cannot come up with just one game , closest would be maybe RBI Baseball because of the time spent playing it constantly with a friend. I do however have many fond memories of playing games with my dad going back to the Atari 2600 , or recalling when he broke a foot and was laid up in a cast and couldnt sleep good, I'd wake in middle of night to him playing the 2600 , with games like barnstorming, stampede to name a few. I also recall having bought a used Genesis off someone that had the Sega cd and 32x attachment to it, but my dad would often play it and he played Toejam and Earl constantly on that thing, and I'd come in a chat with him while he played it.

That was beautiful we have all lived very unique yet similar alternate timelines glued together by video games here and there. Pammy has cross generational memories with donkey Kong country series that now also involve us together.

The game that got me into gaming was Wii Sports. We had gaming systems before, but the Wii was when I got hooked. The Wii also brought me, my sister, and mom together and play games like Mario Party 8 and, obviously, Wii Sports. The single player games on Wii were great too, like Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 (still a shame they didn't put 2 on 3D All Stars) and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Without the Wii, I wouldn't be into gaming like I am today.

For me, it has to be The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I discovered Trails initially from Trails of Cold Steel on PS3/PS Vita (later on PS4); however, I sadly wasn't interested at first when playing Cold Steel, so I put it down. Time passes by a few years, all my favorite games aren't for me personally anymore, I wasn't liking the direction certain franchises were going or simply some franchises weren't getting anything new (example: Mega-Man Legends 3, Mega-Man Starforce 4 etc etc.) Looking on Steam one day I see Trails in the Sky, thinking the named sounded so familiar, it was on sale for $9.99 so i said screw it, bought it, played it and within the first 20 hours I was in awe how real the world felt, how the NPCs felt genuine, felt relatable, it was unlike anything I had ever experienced in a very long time. Fast forward a couple years, I have since played every Trails entry to date and it has changed my life and standards I have in gaming. When gaming seemed stale, Trails in the Sky specifcally saved it for me.

Lol mine is probably NFL Fever 2002. I remember walking into a store and playing it on a kiosk and being absolutely blown away by the graphics that I asked for a Xbox for my bday (which was only a few days later).
Being a n64 kid and starting high school, the GameCube looked too kid focused. I didn’t like the PlayStation and the Dreamcast had been discontinued. I was feeling lost as a gamer trying to figure out my way. Ended up having an amazing 4 years with the OG Xbox that I pretty much rode that high until 2024 when I finally moved on to PlayStation as my core console.

So I would have to say Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on Xbox 360! I bought that game brand new at Big Lots! ( I think) in the $20 & under bin of games. Why do I say this game? Well I got that in 2010 - 2011 I was in middle school at the time, and I knew about Sega but did not know their catalog of games. Wow! What wonders that did for me becoming a big Sega fan, and game collector in general! That was the first time I experienced Streets of Rage, Shinobi III, Ecco the Dolphin, Alex Kidd, Toejam & Earl, Golden Axe, etc. That really shaped me as a die hard Sega fan for life!

I think the game that's had the most impact on me is Clannad. I watched anime all the time as a kid, I live in the countryside in the UK and it was incredibly not common at the time (A solid 16ish years ago). I found out about Clannad by its anime adaptation and eventually played the game. To say its impacted me would be an understatement. That game changed my life and basically made me the person I am today. Without Clannad I wouldn't have become the person I am now, and while its cliche (Allot of people that have played Clannad would say the same thing) it doesn't change it from being true. The empathy, respect for others and value of family I now feel wasn't something I ever thought of as a kid. Clannad made me appreciate my life in a way I just didn't before, and made me appreciate everyone else in it. Without this game, I would have grown up to be a completely different person, so I'm glad it came into my life when it did.

I have played so many games in my life from Fairchild channel f to PS5 and games a lot of people never had the opportunity to play because they were never released to the public but it was the year of 1994 I received a new copy of final fantasy for the SNES. This game made me so mad where I broke my TV as a child and made me realize that it was just a game and I should take better care of my possessions.

The game that changed my life was kings quest:the quest for the crown that changed my life. Was the first game I ever beat and got me into playing more games.

I played Super Mario Land on a friend’s game boy at day care as a kid which got me into games. I asked my mom for a game boy pocket and I got soon got Pokémon Red. I’ve been playing RPG’s since.

As much as I would love to say TMNT II on NES because it's my favorite game and made me a bigger TMNT fan than I already was when I was a kid watching the original cartoon. The game that changed my life was Wave Race 64. It brings back a very important memory. I went to visit my sister's friend with my sister. In her parents' house they had the N64 and the first game I saw was Wave Race 64. She gave it to me right then and there I took it home. I had it for years until she asked for it back so her son could have it. A big reason why it's important is because just a few years ago she passed away very young in her 40's.

Ok I really was thinking about this and I came to Fortnite also and thought it was cheating but not the typical physical game. It bonds my wife and I and us to our kids. While my son was going through treatment for his leukemia we would all play Fortnite together to us happy and laughing and raging together
