Its really impressive for a vehicle its size and intended audience. Even though it struggles up some harder trajectories, it is still capable for most people. Good job on Chevy
This is the car I've been looking for for 4 ears!!! It's perfect for my needs. I never thought I'd buy a chevy, I narrowed down my choices to Subaru, kia/hyndai or Mazda. But this chevy I think it's the best. Whoohooo!!! I'm so happy you can actually turn off the awd if you don't need it.
@@EngineAdventures Great review! I own a 2014 Chevy Sonic RS, the 1.4L turbo. Most people I know told me not to get it, but I did alot of research on it and found out how much went into the development of the engine and felt comfortable. I have had some issues but none I would consider major. I replaced the thermostat recently (at 90,000 miles), and the coolant system had issues at about 75,000. Could have been major but turned out just fine. It is a different engine, and it doesn't have the extra weight or the stress of an AWD unit, but its done me good. Driven mainly in Alaska, NY, and NH. So good that I'm actually considering the Trailblazer, even with the small engine. Thanks again for the review, I couldn't find any other videos that truly tested this AWD system, or even explained it. Gonna hit subscribe!
I'd love to see an enthusiast trim for this vehicle with a bigger engine. Something like the optional 2.0 turbo i4 in the Bronco Sport. As-is I don't think it lives up to its name.
Way better detailed than TFL; you give us real world applications that help anywhere you are instead of a biased pathway in Colorado. Way better in my opinion!
Great idea!! When I do my editing I'm on a fairly large computer monitor and have no problem seeing the wheels spin, but I imagine it can get difficult on mobile devices. Thanks for the tip!
Seems like it will be just fine for what it is designed for, soft roading, street snow days, and hard rains. Nobody intending to actually offroad will have this on their shopping list anyway.
Well, it's not a lacking of power or torque causing the wheel spin. It's about the right tire for any terrain. The dirt is very loose, and a highway tread isn't going to hook-up when you start putting vehicle through angles & inclines. It's also not a 4WD!! The right tire will make a huge difference.
Tires can make a big difference, however this test isn't about tires. When two wheels are essentially in the air it doesn't matter what tires you have, there isn't enough friction with the air to do anything. Now when two tires are in the air and the vehicle can transfer power to the two tires on the ground, then there is friction allowing the vehicle to move forward. In this case the vehicle didn't have enough torque to overcome the brake system as it tried to transfer power. Thanks for watching!
@@EngineAdventures If it had good tires, it wouldn't be sitting there spinning out, as the 2 tires on the ground would be grabbing and moving the vehicle forward. Those are basically street radials, what would one expect??
I would agree with you if all 4 tires were spinning at the same time. I also agree that tires designed for the type of terrain you're on make a huge difference, but in this case if the vehicle had locking differentials it would have made it up this hill (using the brakes to simulate locked differentials takes more torque than actually locking the diffs).
Ik Im a year late but it should have a Low gear option to send more torque to the wheels for: towing, up/down inclines, harsh weather/conditions, basically when more traction is needed
If you put it in L and use the side rocker on the gear shifter, you can pick any of the 9 gears you want. 1st gear is very low and in my experience, simulates low range for what this vehicle is capable of.
Sometimes I do that sometimes I don't. I've never had a crossover use 2nd gear on this climb. The crawl ratio in 1st gear is still less than 15:1, so not great.
@@EngineAdventures Good to know that it picks the right gear. I haven't had my Trailblazer long, but I really like it. It's power to weight feels similar to a Hummer H3 that we have in the family. The Trailblazer will get me down a fire road or wash to a friend's place just fine, but anything more I take my Hummer H2 that has lockers and a proper low range.
Thanks, I have another trailblazer review going up tomorrow and the underneath clip had issues, so this is a good reminder that I can send people to this video if there are questions about it.
@@EngineAdventures I was just curious what the RS looks like under, it has a small 2 inch wind skirt i think, also wasnt sure about RS skidplate vs Activ. Activ doesnt have a windskirt under the bumper for higher clearance. Im curious if you can remove it on the RS, like i've done on my Sierra. I"m sure its not recommended .
This was a very interesting result. Very different from the Blazer. I understand that the torque differences are vastly different between this and the Blazer. However, I wonder if the fact that the Trailblazer is made in South Korea has anything to do with the awd system behaving differently? Perhaps different algorithms? Nevertheless, I think this thing is a bargain for what you get.
The version of the Blazer that I had was equipped with the dual clutch rear differential, the Trailblazer only has the single clutch versions. That might have made the difference.
It has an all new engine that isn't proven yet. I would say test drive it to make sure it's the right size and has the features you want, but I don't see any reason not to buy it.
It has a 1.3 liter 3 cylinder turbo. not a 4 cylinder. It is not an off road vehicle in any trim level. It's an urban trailblazer with very light off road capability's. However. I did enjoy your video.
@@EngineAdventures cool. I'll keep a lookout. I have a 2017 and would be curious to see how it does during your testing. I subscribed anyway. 👍🏾 My daughter has the TrailBlazer RS but fwd. She loves it.
Thanks for watching! I do the same tests with just about every vehicle I test. Just because I don't like how it performance here, doesn't mean it isn't a great all weather vehicle. It just didn't perform as well as some others on this test.
@@CKPHH like the higher speed section at the beginning? Honestly it didn't even do too bad on the steep hill climb. I've had many vehicles not make it up the hill at all, even on the easy line.
Correct, I had a hard time saying 3 cylinder for some reason and I think 4 cylinder slipped through editing twice in this video. Been a long time, so I don't remember for sure.
Hey man, you have a good detailed review on the offroad capability of daily vehicles. It's very useful and I thank you.
Thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it!
Its really impressive for a vehicle its size and intended audience. Even though it struggles up some harder trajectories, it is still capable for most people. Good job on Chevy
It does really well for what it was designed for. I'd be confident in all weather conditions with it!
Great SUV for Boston, Miami, US and Colombia.... cool video

Hopefully the engine holds up well, it's new and might have some growing pains. It's a fun little crossover with good fuel mileage.

TFL are a bunch of liberal Colorado flakes. None of them know anything about cars or capitalism.
Quick suggestion, put a piece of white or yellow tape on the wheel so it's easier to see the wheel spin/brake system in action.

wow thanks for this. saved me a buyers nightmare

actually 3 cylinder . interesting result of 2wd and awd

From what I understand most of the programming was done in the U.S. and some in Canada
Show more intense off roading in it like mud rigs and water crossings

I think if they tried to do that it would fall apart lol

looks like somebody already put a ding into the exhaust pipe just right before the muffler
Good call, I hadn't noticed that. It looks like the heat shields over the components next to that spot on the exhaust were also damaged at some point.
The old one used to blaze trails and it lived up to the blazer name but this one doesn't what a shame
I guess that's just the evolution of the market.
It's a 3 cylinder not a 4 cylinder
I thought I corrected that, must have slipped and said 4. Thanks!

It’s a three cylinder engine
Thanks, I can't believe I start off the video by saying 4-cylinder! In my review video I corrected it, but somehow missed it here in post editing.
All about epa & weak transmission
It's a 3 cylinder engine not a 4 cylinder engine!!!
Yeah I must have said that 4-5 times in the video. I caught most of them.
its a 3Cyl turbo, not 4...
Yeah I missed that one in editing. I kept saying it wrong while filming and I thought I caught them all in post, clearly not.
1.3 Turbo 3 Cylinder ... not 4 Cylinder
Yup, I definitely miss spoke there!

lol

It was ass ugly!
Wimpy Chevy. Gives us a Blazer Bison ZR2 two-door, please.
Soccer mom car with street tires. Chevy had no business putting the Trailblazer name on this. Bring back toxic masculinity off road vehicles.
Great video but the car sucks soooo bad
