- Tried the RK 24 subcompact tractor aka Sherman with the RK by Top Dog Granite Grapple out. Used it to start blazing a new trail. So far so good, works great. Next I will try out picking and carrying some red oak logs.

I envy you having Fall weather. Here in Alabama we just continue with summer and in a blink go to winter somehow. Also, Sherman is not a favorite name in this region, but I will continue to watch whatever you decide to name the little bugger.

As I watched you cutting trail, the thought came to mind: I haven't seen you do any major chipping? In my neck of the woods I chip as much as possible so that I don't build-up stacks of dry stuff that can then be a fire hazzard. Is this just a geographical difference or a personal preference? In any case, I really do enjoy each and every one of your vids so keep up the great work and thank you to ALL your crew for the hard work of putting them together.
I have a 2013 Mahindra Max 28xl with Loader mounted Grapple and Backhoe perfect setup. I have cleared a lot of land with this setup.

That little RK24 seems to be a very capable machine. I have always viewed those sub compacts as a big lawn mower. I think i was wrong as they are far more than a lawn mower. Thanks for showing some of their capabilities 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you fit on that little guy. I didn't even try the RK24 at our local store. I tried the RK37 and barely fit. Sat on the RK55 and it is the best for a guy who is 6'5". No way I could fold myself up into the RK24! If only RK could come up with a seat extender. All I need is for the seat to move back a few more inches......
Perfect environment to use and test the three RK tractors and all the attachments. It's like RK had places like yours in mind when they designed the tractors and attachments. I always enjoying watching and seeing all the different ways the attachments make so many projects around the properties so much easier to accomplish. Hey Mike hope all is well. I see you are giving the rk24 (Sherman!) a workout going through the woods creating a path. I'm interested to know/see how much of a "pain in the neck" it would be to use the rk37 instead. I think it would be worthwhile to do even a short video on the plusses and minuses of using a slightly bigger tractor for such a chore. For us guys trying to decide if we should go subcompact rk24 open air or compact rk37 with cab knowing how maneuverable either tractor is in the woods would be helpful. If crawling through the woods (mostly shaded) and going short distances (including cutting grass) is all you are doing, I can see how Sherman would be ideal. If you are only sometimes venturing into the woods for clean up or creating a pathway, and cutting a decent amount of grass (out in the open sun), etc..., it might make sense to go with the compact with cab and hopefully make as many straightaways for your pathways as possible when you are maneuvering in the woods. Hope you have time to get back to me on this. Keep up the good work with your channel!

Hi Mike, You mention many times how much rain you have gotten over this summer. Do you think it would do you any good to run ,,possibly a 5 or 6 foot plugger/aerator on your trails in the timber to help and maybe speed up them draining to were you could cut firewood slightly quicker? Here , about 3 years ago, I bought a cheapie 40" spiker aerator pull behind/2 concrete blocks thrown on top, and it does difinately help with keeping the yard slightly softer and smoother,if I pull it every time mowing. It may make your situation worse with being more of a water trapping effect,rather than running away down slope, not sure?

I'm really interested to see how the whole setup works. I would also like to know if something like this will work on other manufacturer's tractors (I own a John Deere 1025R sub-compact). This is a tool that would be very useful for me.
Regarding your comment about safety, I had a manager always tell us something that sticks with me today. "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast". You are absolutely right in that you need to take your time in the woods. I've had a couple of "close calls" that have made me slow down and not get in a hurry. Even though they are smaller machines, they can hurt/kill someone.

The tractor looks like it is balanced very well with the grapple and backhoe.

Good video. I help build trails for hikers in a county park and what we try to do is avoid having any long straight sections; we always like to be jogging left and right, but our purpose is to make interesting hiking.
Had a bit of a binge and finally caught up after being away for the weekend, Great little tractor. a really great channel too.
Would be handy to have a PTO chipper on. As you get to clusters of down trees, chip some into path.

Sherman does make it look easy pushing them fallen trees to the side and at the same time have its teeth in the ground, will you cut them logs up witch are now on the side of your trail or are they to far gone for doing anything with. good work as always mick.

Hey Mike, another great video of you doing things that I love to do. I never get tried of watching this kind of video. I love working in the woods building trail and processing firewood. My granddad Dulin loved being out in the “Timber” as he fondly called it. He was a major influence in my life. Thank you for everything you and Melissa do. Paul.

Mike, I'm looking to do much of the same type of work as in this video. I was set on the rk37 just because of the extra weight and power. But after watching this, i'm thinking maybe the rk24 would be plenty of tractor for the woods. Would you recommend the 24 or 37 for woods work? Btw love watching the videos! So I have some ground I need to do this to, but it used to be a cornfield and has some deep ruts. Should I just pay to have it plowed up? Or is there something this little tractor could do to make the ground more level? Thanks

Mike, this is the type of work I want to do on my property along with driveway maintenance. Thought I was set on the rk37 but now I'm liking the smaller setup. In your opinion which is better for woods work? Love watching all of your videos thanks for all the hard work to make them!
Mike, It looks like you have a lot of standing dead in there, let's hope most of it is sound wood, I think you'll need more IBCs.

Travis Young I'm with ya. I want the quick attach loader for mine as well. I feel like I got screwed not getting the quick attach loader. Can't find an after market one that will fit. Called "everything attachments" who said the universal quick attach loader bracket doesn't fit the rk24.

Mike, in your opinion would an RK24 be enough tractor for my 27 acre woods that I am building a home in with an approximately 1000’ driveway or would the RK37 be better suited. I like the price on the RK24 a lot better!😉
Hey Mike great work as always. Have you thought about taking the back hoe off and putting a weight rack on the back to give you even better movability.
Yea but its nice having the backhoe on for little stumps and things, but I agree a ballast box or something would make it even more maneuverable

I think for that type of work it would be Better Not Using Auto Throttle so You rev Up the Engine and not change gearing to give more Power without bogging or increasing the speed too much. Great Vids though just my 2 Cents..
After a few minutes of watching this video and seeing all the limbs being cleared off the ground, it occurred to me that those limbs had to come from somewhere. "Mike should be wearing a safety helmet," I said to myself. Then, near the end, Mike says how careful you have to be when doing this kind of work. I'm not a safety nut, but Mike, you should be wearing a hard hat, just in case. Love the videos, and I don't want to see a widow-maker in action.

As a historian I don’t understand why you should name a tractor after a bad performing WW2 tank... Compared with the Russian T34 and the German Tiger, the Sheman was helpless. Only because of it’s huge production number it could be useful... I think that nice tractor deserves a more powerful name...
