Dude. THANK YOU. I went through dozens of videos before this one where I swear the person was TRYING to confuse me. Haha. This was so clear and shot perfectly. (Borat voice) VERY EXCITE!
Man, simply put, thank you! This video and description gave me everything I needed to get the correct components to install a new head unit in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Additionally you provided all the info needed for the adapters and kits to complete the install.... R.O.C.K.S.T.A.R! Clear, concise, & to the 👉! THANK YOU 🙏
Thanks for this video. I was having a short in my radio. Sometimes it would play and sometimes not. I used your video to help me get my radio out. Thanks a lot you saved me money by watching and using your video.
This is old. I just updated my 2016 Jeep with an android v12 . It was truly plug-and-play and extremely easy and more professional looking. A lot has changed in 5 years
Which is the old way . Great Android Head units are relatively easy to do for a DIY, Very cost effective, and have a very good screen for viewing. That’s the modern way
If youre having an issue where you can see into the dash from the bottom of the radio you can trim 1/8th inch off in the inside top and bottom lip of the kit that touches the front sides of the radio. Helps a ton on the radios that don't have a motorized screen as they sit much further out.
I'm glad you posted this video. Basic techniques that can never be talked about enough. With the internet and everything today, you think you would pull a radio out of a car and it would look normal LOL. Nope. Even with all this knowledge right there in front of people we still fine cluster bombs behind the dash! By the way, I love your new backdrop and display. It's awesome that you spent the time to do that. Image does matter plus it shows off your passion. Happy New Year Mark and I'm so looking forward to 2018!
Great video. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler (no factory AMP) and replacing radio with a Pioneer AVH-2330NEX using a Maestro harness. I get everything to work except no sound from speakers. Can't figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks
This post helped immensely. The only thing I ran into that was a problem was the CH1 has a control cable that is jeep wrangler specific. I didn't see that. Once I hooked it up everything worked great. The other small issue was the metal support piece that is surrounding the stock head unit. That needs to go for the new double din to fit. Otherwise you covered everything!
Can you explain to me what cable this is? I have done the entire wiring harness and didn’t want to maestro because I don’t care about steering wheel controls so can I use it without that?
Hey Mark did you install the Bluetooth microphone that comes with the pioneer headunit? I’m going to be installing a Kenwood DMX 7704s in my 2013 silverado using an idatalink maestro but I’m not sure if the factory Bluetooth mic will work or do i have to use what came with the new headunit.
Hey Mark, thanks for this video! I have a Jeep JK and will follow this for my own install. One question: Could you say more about how you wired in the remote wire to the amps? I see the thicker blue wire connected to the harness, but you don’t mention the process in the tutorial. Would love to see how you connect the remote wire to the deck and then to the amp(s). Thanks!
Excellent dude. I'm about to do up my Jeep. Just need a new head unit that I'm about to order and then I'm putting it all together. I'll send you some pics via instagram when done. So excited to get all this stuff done!
Serious question: if you have no desire to use Uconnect (I removed it as a feature when loading the Maestro firmware), do you need to put the box back into the console? Also, thanks for showing that trick to run the cable to that adapter so you can use the USB connection inside your armrest box! Finally, do you know of anyone who has a video on modifying the metal bracket you took out? It's a pretty handy piece that I think is needed, especially to stabilize the top of the dash, and to allow me to put a mount back in place.
In the beginning I was like... YEAH I GOT THIS.... 1 min in i was like nah... going to pay someone to do it! lol Same Jeep tho.. so maybe ill give it a shot. stay tuned for my foul ups lol
Thank Mark for a great video. I installed a pioneer unit on my JK last year .everything works great however, every now and then i hear a loud pop in the sub woofer with a sudden loss of sound for 1 second then everything goes back to normal.. cant figure our why..
Great info!! I do have two problems with my radio though… 1 out of 4 times, the unit starts with no sound!!! And the harness I found only sends 2 channels of sound so L+R are hooked up on Rear and front at the same time!! Any advice!?
I just want to confirm that you did reinstall the uConnect module w/o the usb and secondly were you able to use the factory microphone or did you have to install the microphone that came with the pioneer head unit?
I am wondering the same thing. I just installed a Pioneer AVH1550NEX and the microphone isn't working. Also wondering about Sirius satellite connections. Thanks
I feel like I'm missing something. I didn't order the steering wheel converter adapter kit but ordered the same wiring harness you mention. The end that plugs into the radio has bare wires to one end, the side that plugs into the existing jeep side does not have bare wires on it. It has the 4 plastic adapters you mention and a completed adapter instead of the wires I'd imagine I need to splice. It also has a separate red and yellow wire adapter. I've tried sticking the power wires into the appropriate slots on both adapters when the car was on but the radio doesn't turn on. The wiring harness is the link in your description, and says plug and play ready so I'm guessing that's what the black plastic adapter is. I'm worried about cutting the wires by the adapter, it's not a cheap harness.
Tell me you fixed the gap on the sides of the radio. Pioneer did the last few years of touchscreen radios very thin. We trim the corners on the kit to side the brackets just little further back and it hides the gaps a little better.
I was researching this last night for my 07 Silverado classic. It looks like I need two different modules one to retain the door and warning chime and another to retain the steering wheel controls. Unfortunately the head unit from my old pickup isn't steering wheel control compatible so I need a new head unit. Actually would you be able to reccomend a decent single din head unit? I don't need all the bells and whistles I'm looking for one I can connect my android phone to.
Thank you for the informative vid. But what is better datalink, your recommendation, (Maestro RR) or the less expensive AXXESS AX-ADCH100 Interfaces with their cabling?? just wondering
Great video! I followed it to install a Pioneer avh-1500nex. I am wondering how to secure the random crap holding tray using the screw if we remove the stock radio metal bracket. I have a phone holder that uses the screw in the tray.
I have that same setup and I got a lot of noise/EMI when I used the OEM usb port in the center console. I'm curious to see if you have the same result. I was also pretty disappointed the Maestro adapter couldn't give me the reverse signal for a manual transmission. All of the lights in the vehicle are on the canbus. So I'm not sure why they didn't just identify which address and value was for reverse lights and build that into the firmware you load.
Super super beginner. The harness purchased separately has an adapter where on your video the wires are exposed and ready to solder. Can I just cut the plug off and splice wires together as shown?
I know this is kind of an old video, but where did you ground your stereo to? I have a Alpine ILX-W650 with two older Alpine V12 amps, one 5 Ch and one 2 ch for a sub. Can’t seem to get rid of “alternator noise” through amplifier grounding so I’ll try stereo grounding next. After that I’ll try 0 gauge grounding straps in the engine bay and see if that helps.
Mark - great video, thanks. Question - I have a 2018 jeep wrangler JK Sahara - factory radio - I do NOT have uconnent. I want to replace the radio and add bluetooth and hands free calling. Besides buying a new radio, do I follow this radio to accomplish my goal? Thanks
I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I am installing a Pioneer AVH-X390BS into. The jeep is the most basic of Jeeps! I am looking at the CH1 wiring harness I believe. If I want to hook up later on back up camera or an amplifier then I would need to get the Maestro RR, correct? Is that all I will need for a basic install?
Mark What is the best ground wire connection position to avoid noise? STD wire harness? Straight from battery? Same point as amplifiers? Dedicated position near dashboard?
I know how you feel about Chinese Android headunits and I want to see a video about the ATOTO S8 Premium (flagship). It's got a *good* dsp and some really great features, you should make a video about it.
My question was is I put a jvc in my 2012 jeep Jk but I didn’t buy anything for the uconnect cause I didn’t care about the steering wheel controls, but I was wondering does the new radio use its own amp or does it actually use the oem amp that’s under the steering column
I hope you still have eyes on this video but needed some help troubleshooting an install I did of this same radio to my 2016 JK...UConnect is being difficult
I have the powertek acoustic stereo in my 01 Cherokee and I was wondering if I would be able to transfer it over to my 2012 wrangler ? Currently there is some off brand Japanese radio in there called nakamichi and I don't like that it does NOT have the android auto functions, due to the app that the current radio wants me to download that doesn't even work.
i am confused about 13 mins in. you talk about the u connect, you show how to take it out. you explain about the port that goes to the arm rest. you say you will plug it back in but do not show where, you went straight to that section all butted up and just the top part for the radio. The one adaptor to the left, that you say goes to the arm rest, is that the usb end at the top when you talk about how you bundled items together? what did you do with the Uconnect port? is it just hanging out in there or did it get connected to something else?
Hello, I am torn between a new stereo with car play and built in GPS. I also have a Wrangler and worry about losing connection while in the woods. What are your thoughts pros and cons
Just an exercice: I challenge Mark and Doug to make all these steps on a 2014 Ford Fusion. Using a Alpine- X009-U ( universal restyle headunit)+ maestro+ everything and retain all funciontions of climate control , etc. To Doug, to be easily, instal a galaxy view or ipad pro with the same sony headunit he used on his f150 and preserve all functions using or not all maestro tools. I doubt that! Here in Brazil is almost impossible because is too difficult to have access to all the stuff I´ll need. To do a Real upgrade on a Ford Fusion is almost impossible. Great work Mark!! Success in 2018!!!
This is a great install Video for Jeep Wrangler. I do have one question a lot of Jeep owners use that top bolt in that Top tray to hold down Cell phone and tablet mounts. That metal bracket you took out from the inside of the dashboard actually has the The part where that screw goes into. What do you suggest if people need to bolt stuff from the top?
I am viewing this in 2020 & you made the video in 2017 so I hope you are still answering questions. I have a 2011 wrangler with stock unit. I would like to know what will I gain or lose if I decide to keep the uconnect still connected if I use the maestro? In addition is it also true if I keep unconnected in will I not be able to put in a Destiination within CarPlay while the car is moving?
Per your video, you removed the metal plate/bracket (11:55 on your video) that was behind the radio. Is that the screw/bolt that was under the junk collector on the top of the dash, was screwed into? The previous owner did this install and that screw/bolt is missing. Since the screw is missing, the dash can slide forward just a bit and squeak's. Any solution for this? Thanks!
I didn't scroll through all the comments so I apologize if this was already brought up; I'd there a harness or module that would allow me to retain all the factory features without having to use the OBD port? Or is it possible to hardwire the wires to the OBD behind the actual port?
Hello, I am planning on installing an Atoto A6 in my JKU. I was thinking about putting the GPS antenna in front of the accessory tray in that little spot between the tray and the windshield (between the 2 defroster vents. I was also thinking about running the WiFi antenna up along the A pillar and maybe installing it in the headliner or the passenger side pillar. Thoughts? Thank you!
I just connected my new radio using the harness with everything you had. I have a simple double din but my steering wheel controls aren’t working. It has a plug in for it in the back (like a aux port) but the other wire I’m not sure what to do with it do I have to have both connected?
I'm getting a 2440NEX with maestro in my jeep and wanted to keep uconnect. Can I still use my factory usb port to use android auto? What are the reasons I would get rid of uconnect?
My uConnect is malfunctioning and I can't even see what phones were paired. If I can't access it to delete the phones, what will that do when I flash the Maestro unit? Will my phone still work with the new head unit?
Could you touch on the USB adapter you installed right after taking the uconnect module out?? As in where to connect it to the back of the radio or wherever it goes? Thanks
Hey Mark i just purchased a single din radio and to be honest I dont really want to spend the extra money on an interface to connect the steering controls. Will this make the radio unable to turn off? Does the stock harness have that cable?
i have a question about the wiring harness. my jeep doesn't have factory bluetooth, navigation, or u connect, would i be able to use just the CH-1 harness and abandon the steering wheel controls, or is the Datalink necessary?
Great video and Thanks!! I do have 2 questions hopefully you can answer. 1) I have a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX going into a 2014 JKU, should I be able to use the factory mic? I plan on removing the UConnect if that maters at all. 2) I bought the USB adaptor from your link, was it long enough on it's own for you?
Awesome video! Really good help to install my Pioneer radio. I will install the AVH2300 Nex in my Jeep. do you have a video of how to install a backup camera for this? I was looking for the Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera but I don't know too much about how do it.
Amazing detail thank you so much this was the first install I had professionally done and they did a horrible job all the wires came undone do to just using electrical tape. My front right is my front left and back left and front left is front and back right when I asked them why they did it this way they explained that it’s normal. Any insight on that?
Great install! I have a question on how you bolt the top 7mm bolt back down under the top trash tray without the old radio support? Does pioneer make an adaptor for this?
I have a plane Jane jeep sport with basic radio am,FM,CD that's all and my jeep dose spend some time without doors so the fancy radios are not a good idea any help ? Would love the car play for my android phone
Hello Mark, Just came across your video regarding this install. Great presentation! May I ask, My 2018 JK did not come with a SW. Where would I install it to get the best results w/out casing distortion and do I need an amp to do so? m not looking for a lot power, just great sound. Regards)
I have tried to install the same 1330 nex with the maestro in a 2013 wrangler Sahara Unlimited, but I am not getting any sound. Any ideas? Also do you have any suggestions for what I need to purchase to get factory satellite radio to work with the 1330. I have purchased the sat1 and nav2 pigtails. No place to plug them in.
Glad I found this! Is there anything that can be done with upgrading the subwoofer and sound on the JK but with the OEM location (side panel in the trunk, not the newer ones in the trunk floor)?

+Jose Garcia thank you!😄
You can never go wrong with Pioneer!
If a jeep has a factory sub, does that mean it's factory amplified? If so, does that interface keep you from having to do a amplifier bypass?
Great video. Installing a new head unit in my jeep this morning. This saved me some time and head aches :)

You are a damn master installer. Wish you were close to me so I could have you do the installs. Uber pro bro.
Great video and super clean install. I'm sure Mrs. CAF will love it.
Nice clean work and some good tips!
great video with detailed information. gives me confidence for my install
Hey Mark do you have an install video for a 2012 challenger i would like to know how to make the radio flush with the dash vs having it sticking in
Great video- did you keep the factory blue tooth microphone or did you switch out the mic that came with the new HU?
Chris Fasouletos did you end up keeping the factory Bluetooth?
I have that same setup and I got a lot of noise/EMI when I used the OEM usb port in the center console. I'm curious to see if you have the same result. Great video! My jeep doesn't have bluetooth right now, what will I need to have it in my jeep?? What bout adding a sub and amp?? Thnx
Many Jeep owners don't realize their OEM radio DO have bluetooth
What kind of Jeep? I have a 2016 JKU and it is a sport s with Bluetooth
My God! I’m never putting an aftermarket radio in a Wrangler lol. Great video man
Easy Peasy
Very nice video Mark!
Best Regards from Poland!☺
What do you think of BOSS? I'm looking at their marine unit for my jeep because it basically lives with the top off.
I know this is kind of an old video, but where did you ground your stereo to? I have a Alpine ILX-W650 with two older Alpine V12 amps, one 5 Ch and one 2 ch for a sub. Mark - great video, thanks. Question - I have a 2018 jeep wrangler JK Sahara - factory radio - I do NOT have uconnent. I want to replace the radio and add bluetooth and hands free calling. Besides buying a new radio, do I follow this radio to accomplish my goal?
Thanks
Great video! Perfect level of detail
Mark
What is the best ground wire connection position to avoid noise?
STD wire harness?
Straight from battery?
Same point as amplifiers?
Dedicated position near dashboard?
I know how you feel about Chinese Android headunits and I want to see a video about the ATOTO S8 Premium (flagship). It's got a *good* dsp and some really great features, you should make a video about it.
Insightful Bro! Thanks! I'll feel more apt to do some of this on my own now.
The link for the wire harness is no longer available is there a substitute you recommend?
My question was is I put a jvc in my 2012 jeep Jk but I didn’t buy anything for the uconnect cause I didn’t care about the steering wheel controls, but I was wondering does the new radio use its own amp or does it actually use the oem amp that’s under the steering column

kawlreaper I have the same questionplease help.
I modified the original bracket and put it back in. Was a real pain.
Just add a nut on the bolt cell phones don’t weigh much
I noticed you took out the bracket in which the dash is held in at the top. Did you reinstall that to hold the upper dash into place.
I am viewing this in 2020 & you made the video in 2017 so I hope you are still answering questions.

Need a video like this for 1999-2004 WJs
What is the link or info to the harness to retain the xm radio. Thats the only harness not listed in your information links
Thanks!

@CarAudioFabrification can you do this without a uconnect box? if so what must be added?
Would you or would you not recommend a boss touch screen for a Jeep Wrangler 2013?
Do you reattach the Uconnect or do you plug the harnesses from that into the Maestro and toss the old Uconnect box?
This has been very helpful!!! Thank you!!!
Does your car play activate the Bluetooth or do you have to have it connected with usb
I just connected my new radio using the harness with everything you had. I have a simple double din but my steering wheel controls aren’t working. It has a plug in for it in the back (like a aux port) but the other wire I’m not sure what to do with it do I have to have both connected?
another question. where do you get the close self foam? not sure if i heard that correctly. thank you.
I'm getting a 2440NEX with maestro in my jeep and wanted to keep uconnect. Can I still use my factory usb port to use android auto? What are the reasons I would get rid of uconnect?
The same procedure should work for a 2011 Grand Cherokee, do you agree?
My uConnect is malfunctioning and I can't even see what phones were paired. If I can't access it to delete the phones, what will that do when I flash the Maestro unit?
Will my phone still work with the new head unit?
Could you touch on the USB adapter you installed right after taking the uconnect module out?? As in where to connect it to the back of the radio or wherever it goes? Thanks
What are the benefits of disconnecting the Uconnect vs leaving the Uconnect connected? I saw where you wanted it disconnected.
Will the accessories work with the Pioneer AVH-1550NEX.??
Hey Mark i just purchased a single din radio and to be honest I dont really want to spend the extra money on an interface to connect the steering controls. Will this make the radio unable to turn off? Does the stock harness have that cable?
Can you post wiring for the harness? I did this and I'm having issues with volume. 2011 wrangler with factory amp
You probably didn’t install it well or the amp not working properly
Did you need any additional connections to use existing USB connection in the jeep?
i have a question about the wiring harness. my jeep doesn't have factory bluetooth, navigation, or u connect, would i be able to use just the CH-1 harness and abandon the steering wheel controls, or is the Datalink necessary?
Ok I’m going to try this on my Jeep 🤞🏽 wish me luck !
Dot let me know how it goes? What Jeep do you have? I want to try this!
Shelby it went perfect I got a cheaper screen though ... I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport
LosDelRanchoFilms did you ever figure out how to do this? I want to intal a backup camera in mine too
What would an install like this cost if I were to have it done for me? rough estimate
Amazing detail thank you so much this was the first install I had professionally done and they did a horrible job all the wires came undone do to just using electrical tape. My front right is my front left and back left and front left is front and back right when I asked them why they did it this way they explained that it’s normal. Any insight on that?
Your "professional" was a hack.
Hello, in the jeep audio harness there are two wires by the yellow one, one is white/grey and the other white/red. Do you know what are those for?
What do you do if your radio brand is not on the idatalink website? I have a Pyle radio. How do I make it work?
Great install! I have a question on how you bolt the top 7mm bolt back down under the top trash tray without the old radio support? Does pioneer make an adaptor for this?
I just seen this video, but just wanted to send a reply I just cut the bracket and fit it back in, and I have a phone holder bolted to that bracket
@@oceanbluejku how / where did you make your cuts to facilitate keeping the 7mm nut for the phone mount? Thanks!
Hi! What about if i dont use that wiring harness? Is it necessary anyways or only if i wanna keep the steering wheel controls? Thank you
2017 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon, will this set up work with the pioneer dmh 1500 nex?
What is a good source for that closed cell foam wrap? Having trouble with Google search term.
I have a plane Jane jeep sport with basic radio am,FM,CD that's all and my jeep dose spend some time without doors so the fancy radios are not a good idea any help ? Would love the car play for my android phone
Hello Mark,
Just came across your video regarding this install. Great presentation! May I ask, My 2018 JK did not come with a SW. Where would I install it to get the best results w/out casing distortion and do I need an amp to do so? m not looking for a lot power, just great sound. Regards)
Great job Mark! Happy New Year!
What speakers and amp would you recommend for Jeep Wrangler??
Glad I found this! Is there anything that can be done with upgrading the subwoofer and sound on the JK but with the OEM location (side panel in the trunk, not the newer ones in the trunk floor)?
