To pick a nit: my grandfathers and my father would NEVER consider availing themselves of mental health services. They'd sooner rely on the church. In my experience, the church my male relatives were drawn to reinforces a theology of birthright male headship that is easily exploited by dark money authoritarian types. In practice, that seems to hurt women and POC.

This happens when you live in a predatory economic society unfortunately. We need to get those after school activities back in schools. @funkydanieluk hmmm... maybe you should make some effort to understand what a number of these people mean when they use the words that they use when talking about these sorts of concepts. I make the suggestion because it really does appear that you've either already bad your take on these ideas from the start, and had been looking for something to utilize for the purpose of rejecting everything about it... OR... Maybe you've been rubbed the wrong way by these people, &/or how they presented things. and we all know that they do seem to fumble at least somewhat often. but then again, so for those presumably trying to heat it. but anyhow, I've heard from a lot of ppl over the years, as well as my own experience, that when a topic comes up that may cause an individual to feel as though they may be 'under attack'- it can sometimes be helpful to try to compartmentalize the feeling, as to possibly disallow that from interfering too terribly much with you listening to or participating in those conversations. I assure you that the idea most certainly isn't to cause you harm. if guys were given some additional skills/'tools', and those newer tools were to be seen as 'normal', I think the perceived "toxic masculinity" might be seen as a little lesser prominent. I don't think the goal is to harm you, or men in general. the would/our world could potentially be a little better for everybody if certain kinds of things could be mitigated. I'll toss out an idea or two if you reply, I'd like to hear what you may think about some of these things, and the topic more broadly.

No, accept men have rights removed from them. Men's health is a health issue. Giving men EQUAL RIGHT to leave or custodianship to their children isn't a health thing, it is a rights thing. Originally, men were the breadwinner, so they got the children, by default. Then women fought for the right to bring up children, and won. So women were given the children by default. That is where the problem arose originally. Not "given equal right", given right by default. What was wrong for men to get, was now given to women. But men still were the breadwinners, so they were hit with alimony to pay for the child's upkeep, because unlike women, he could. Then poor (and then working class) men didn't HAVE the breadwinner position and had no more, or little more, ability to pay for the upkeep. But laws didn't change.
The changing of law is a rights issue. Not a health one.

Most ppl I know are either apolitical or hate progressives because they feel progressives are always in their face blaming them for stuff. We need to do a better job connecting with men. It's not helpful to say because men have historically always been on top the social ladder we shouldn't hear their issues on an individual level.

The left regularly mistreats people and then acts surprised when they lose votes despite having the most apparently smart policies. Call every white man a devil, call every man an oppressor, tell them they are born with the original sin of toxic masculinity and can never be accepted in society, then act shocked when you meet rightwingers who actually agree with you in theory but left the team because you abused them. The left is, and always has been, its own biggest enemy. There is a reason the right commonly says stuff like "the Left is the side of tolerance" ironically. There is truth to it, it eats their own for no reason. There is nothing immoral about being a man.

@Dishonored Undead this is not true. I've been a progressive my whole adult life, yes there are fringe groups of ppl like this but they do not define the left. It would be against what it means to be a progressive to hate any group of ppl. Being a progressive is about being open and accepting of others from all walks of life. You are just repeating right wing talking points saying the left hates white men. Where you are right is the younger group of progressives are growing up on the internet in thought bubbles that do end up alienating groups that differ than them. I guess it's the "Hasan/H3" brand of progressivism but even they recognize this problem in their audience. Also it doesn't just affect progressives. This is exactly what they are talking about in this video. Isolated young men are turning to these online thought bubbles as well but are turning to Andrew Tate, Jordan Peterson or worse Alex Jones. It's a problem with social media and internet in general and we as a community regardless of political leaning need to work together to fix this. These fringe groups should not define us.

Honestly I think one of the biggest issues we have is just a lack of social spaces for men and women to mix. The few social activities that are normalized for young men are playing sports, playing video games, going to the gym, and drinking. Sports are generally gender-divided, at most you only hear people's voices in video games, most gyms have a culture of people not wanting to talk with each other, and while you can certainly meet and socialize with the other gender while drinking, drinking has it's own problematic subculture. Coworkers, classmates or a dating app maybe. Our means of actually socializing are limited to circumstance. Too many people socialise on Facebook but have no intention of being social in real life. People have become untrusting of other people. The harsh political devide which has people actually calling for and committing violence on the other side only makes people even more less likely to want to socialise. Women think of men as all wanting only sex. Or men think all women are out to get your money and use you. Alot of bad people have created stigma between sexes and political sides. They don't want us as a society to be social and united. They want us to blame eachother for our problems. They keep us lonely, keep us skeptical of government or other people. The term "toxic masculinity" originated in the mythopoetic men's movement of the 1980s and 1990s. This term refers to the dominant form of masculinity wherein men use dominance, violence, and control to assert their power and superiority. Anger and lust are acceptable emotions to have but men can't cry or express sadness otherwise they will appear weak. Basically, it's machismo (which is not masculinity). This is proof that people know nothing about toxic masculinity. When we talk about toxic food, that does not mean that all the food is toxic. Food can be healthy or toxic. Same with masculinity.

I think you're missing the point of this topic. The left is full of understanding regarding what happens to women. They spend a lot of time focusing on how to help women through life in regards to sexism and societal roles.
We give tons of advice to them yet somehow we just tell men "Be better, go to therapy, don't do that." but nothing actually meaningful when it comes to how to not be a creep, or how to respect your potential partners, or even just how you treat friends and acquaintances better. Yet we scratch our head and wonder why incels and right wing sexist groups scoop up all these guys. We sit there and just hand wave away any and all incels and wonder why we keep seeing more Andrew Tates and so on.
Vaush is trying to point out that we need more advice for men from left spaces or we are failing to actually elicit change in one sex but we never miss a beat to acknowledge there's an issue facing young men. But sure let's focus on adding to the large collection of advice we can give to women... I'm sure every guy will figure their stuff out entirely on their own.

and to your second point, in a perfect world, it would be nice to have an education system that doesn’t just provide intellectual education, but gives children the opportunity to understand their own emotions and process them healthily. i don’t understand how that is brainwashing.

I've thought about this for a long time, as twenty-five years ago, I worked for a feminist organization, mentoring girls and young women to be empowered. At the time, I remember asking my supervisor, who is doing this for the boys? The answer was no one. If we look at the historical fight for women's rights and equality, which we still haven't achieved on many individual and societal levels, women have been actively evolving and diversifying what it means to be a woman - right now, women can be astronauts, choose to be a stay at home mom (which is the most important, hardest, and most underappreciated job), we can wear pretty much whatever we want (in the U.S. not in all countries), we can go to college, learn a trade, join the military, be an Instagram model, you name it.
During the same 100 years, men did not evolve to the same range of personal choice and expression. Most of the gatekeeping was done by other men, enforcing the 'real man code', everything from the career choice, to a message you must be stoic, you have to compete against other men for money, status, how big of a bro truck you own, and especially what other men wear and how they present themselves in public - because you don't want to be gasp, seen as gay (which is perfectly fine, if you are). Women also gatekept as well, both genders holding men in a narrow band of acceptable expression, continuously perpetuating old stereotypes and expectations, of men having to be the financial provider and the strong physical protector. All of that gatekeeping was the definition of toxic masculinity, reducing what's possible for men to very few roles.
And now that our society is global, interconnected and focused more on social skills, communication and emotional intelligence, men who were discouraged from adapting, are struggling to find their place. But if women could evolve to embrace a wider range of expressions and roles, so can men.
It will involve having many male role models who are publicly exhibiting emotions, wearing what they wish, and changing male stereotypes. Of course, at first there will be criticism and backlash, because change is hard and old conditioning is difficult to overcome. But there is no other way for men to not get left behind.
It takes courage to walk your own path, regardless of external criticism. It might take going to therapy to unpack all the stupid shit that society, your parents and culture has taught you- learning to find your value in something besides physical strength, or how many sports statistics you've memorized. It might take joining a positive, uplifting men's support group, opening up and being vulnerable. Taking a class on communication, emotional intelligence and collaboration - instead of seeing these as 'soft' or 'feminine' skills, they are life, career and human skills.

Yeah and let's not forget to keep regurgitating to young men with a lack of resources that they need to go and pay shrinks, psychologists and counselors a difficult amount of money and time, for hour long sessions that other individuals having undergone therapy can attest to having helped them solve none of their problems. When in reality a lot of therapy wrongly prescribes solutions, misdiagnoses problems, just parrots talking point considering that most people in it are just going for low hanging fruit and just wanting to expand their market. All that while we live in an economy where many are already feeling the pain of recession well before any recession has actually been declared for our economy. All of that is surely going to work out well and will definitely not lead us into fascism or some time of authoritarianism in the end. Totally.
Nonetheless we do not live in a timeliness on which women's rights were achieved by women alone. Consider now in what some would argue is the most progressive Era, how it is the case we still have women that vote against their own interest as other women would also point that out.
So if we choose to not care about young men as equally as we have cared to grow the number if opportunities for young women, don't be surprised when we hit a terrible point in the road there is no coming back from. That will be tragic and there a lot of opportunists out there as we can clearly see whom are ready to prey on the vulnerability of men and use them to twisted ends (such as that POS Andrew Tate or elsewhere). It just doesn' look that it will end well.

Now THAT I agree with. But that's not something for us to "offer" men. That's something for them to develop themselves. No woman is stopping a man from getting emotional support from his male friends. In fact, most women I know would encourage that.
What we need is more male role models/celebrities, modelling this positive behaviour. But it takes a helluva lot of bravery and courage to change the status quo. Bravery is a personal journey. Women already give more than our fare share. This is something men need to improve and develop for themselves, albeit good parenting and direction (from both mothers and fathers) certainly helps.

There are great campaigns currently here in the UK that are encouraging men to speak to each other about their mental health and call out sexism when they see it. But crucially, these campaigns are fronted and led by men.
You speak of putting the "onus" on men to change, as if that's too harsh/too much to ask. It's no different than putting the "onus" on women to aspire to be more, to speak out and be assertive or any things that women have traditionally struggled with.
Of course, we women should continue to support men, that goes without saying. But the culture at large does need to change, and men must be at the forefront of this. To say that this is too much to ask of them, is honestly babyfying them.

As someone who definitely fit into the category of a lonely young man on the left wing I'm glad this is finally being talked about. There have been times where I felt politically homeless so to speak because I fell to that the left wing had little to offer me particularly when interacting with people who threw around phrases like toxic masculine in a very aggressive way. It always felt like they were throwing it at me. I'm glad to see I was mistaken. I'm also glad to see someone like Vaush take up the mantle of a role model for young men so that we can show them the left wing has far more to offer them than the right-wing does.

Vaush, Shark, the serfs, Xanderhal and Hasanabi have been addressing this carefully and well. I think the left has a REAL problem on it's hands and it's hiding like the TERF's did in the feminism movement. Sadly Trans people are a much easier target. However, the right IS boosting it to recruit very successfully (You'll see them say Ana doesn't actually care on here because they NEED her not to). The fact that the studies Ana cited were CELEBRATED by some leftists online without pushback should give the left a fuckton of pause. Last night a streamer I usually like was like "it's not really a problem, we don't need to address anything, all of the times I hear actual hatred of men by people I've actually shot them down". If it isn't a problem why are you encountering it brazenly out in the public so damn much?
I think a lot of groups on the left haven't HAD to do this type of self reflection before, they almost always have to circle the wagons, so the countering of some ideas or some people in their ingroup is very new to them. As a male white leftist it is very common that outside of political groups I encounter stupid takes from people who think I will agree by being a white male (like any older persons immigration take or god forbid black crime, it takes so long to slowly counter them without shutting their brains off immediately). It's a BIG problem in my group for sure. What has been alarming is just that when I see lefties go "oh haha, men are dying due to despair, OMEGA LUL" and talking heads not give a shit or even excuse it... makes me not want to associate with them. I'll still be a lefty but I want nothing to do with that community if "hey, we all have struggles, and men do too" is a bridge too far.

My man hit it on the nose. The left, for the most part, shuns the idea of helping men in any way. We face challenges, hurt, have emotional issues, etc. There is room to fight for women, LGBT, men, and anyone else. The left needs to do better.
