To be honest, since the start of MAGA 6 minutes is a stretch for the length of time one can hold the average Americans attention span. CNN likely should dumb it down quite a bit further to reach the MAGA group of Americans. Perhaps they could handle 2 minutes so long as there were no big words or references to the unprepossessing looks on their faces.

The over 600k casualties for Russia is nothing considering how much population they have gained from the occupied territories and the fact they could stomach losing 25 million people in ww2. @@s0ycapitan No there were still a great many civilians left in every city Russia has flattened. In particular Mariupol where estimates of civilian casualties range from 20, 000 to 100, 000. The estimations are so varied because Russia won't allow access to outside observers.

Nobody outside the top military decision makers of Ukraine knows what the objective of Kursk counterattack. Clarke says Zelenskyy's not popular last report he had dropped in popularity but was dtill around 65%. As for "insisting " full mobilisation he was pushed many times and eventually the bill passed but it is fo over 25 year olds. Tough conditions and misinformation from russia infect Ukraine.

That isn't full mobilisation. He needs to get 18-24 year olds into uniform, not 60 year olds. He should also be mobilising women and encouraging 16-17 year olds to volunteer.

Kursk allows Ukraine to move missiles and drones closer to vital military infrastructure and to Moscow. Experts have consistently under estimated Ukraine and it’s pretty rich to then say they "may not really understand their objective in Kursk". They took a good size chunk of Russia that they will be able to hold. By the time Putin moves assets there in serious numbers, they will be dug in like ticks and all winter long they will hammer Moscow with their new missiles.
They can't dig in like tics because Russia is nailing them them. I doubt Ukraine hold all the ground it claims - most reports are small sqauds of Ukranian infantry in some jeep. Racing to as many undefended towns to pose for selfies putting up new flags. The Russian army is like a Machine that Ukraine cant stop. The machine industry of Russia is supplying them with 10-1 artillery advantage, 6-1 atleasat for drones, They have more men, more ammo are better paid, They have total air superiority above the areas of significant combat.
If you have made it this far just let me say, there is a whole side of the war you don't see. Information is power and anyone who hides information from you is doing you harm.

The Russians should be worried about Ukraine being afraid of the winter when they themselves can't even supply their troops with adequate equipment.
Russian troops are better equipped than a lot of NATO ones. Look at what they have in the kharkiv oblast for exemple. They have basically more drone, more shell, more ammo, more vehicles. Their logistics work.

The war is not a war of aggression like operation desert storm, it is a war of attrition where men and resources are grinded till the end.

If you listened to Clarke since the beginning of the war, you'll know that he has consistently made over-optimistic assessments, sometimes untethered to on-the-ground reality. This approach to narrative over fact has made the loss worse, imo.

If the doubling of the Czech ammo program actually arrives, then the Russian salient toward Pokrovsk is in for a pounding.
All this time I certainly hope that electrical transmission ties between Ukraine and friendly neighbors have been increased. Generating plants require more time to repair than transmission systems. There has been time for the West to build small generating systems the size of shipping containers that can be set up in a distributed fashion and connected to the electric distribution system where most needed. They cannot provide power to all customers all the time, but getting several hours a day to heat water, do laundry, cool down the refrigerator, etc. is still helpful and good for morale. I doubt the Russians have been preparing this capability for this coming winter. Ukraine and Europe together can be shaping the future of the European electric energy system through this conflict.
Long before the war Ukraine was ALWAYS a massive tech hub. Lots and lots of computer scientists and engineers.

The Russian «salient» is actually 50 km wide of defensive lines and elite troops with superior artillery, drone support and logistic. Easy to draw a line on a map, more difficult to do it.

Maybe Ukraine's army suffers from the Soviet doctrines that dominated. It hasn't had time to chnage since the first invasion in 2014. Ukraine wanted to move toward the West but it was also burdened by Soviet style corruption. Both military tactics and civil institutions have been attempting to improve while under fire.
When I think that they only gained independence in 1991 had two citizen uprisings chased a Russian puppet president out faced a takeover in Crimea and russian backed separatists in Donbas, elected a young inexperienced president and faced a full on invasion of their sovereign territory, I wonder how they have dine so well.
This is the basis of every story ever told. Facing insurmountable odds and against all expectations with so many doubters critics traitors and usurpers, the Ukrainians keep going.
We are witnessing in real time the forging of a new nation but more we are witnessing resilience and the strength it takes to survive. We cannot let them down because we would be giving up on a very intrinsically human idea.

The Russian backed separatists weren't backed as much as didn't exist until Russian Espionage created them by paying gangsters to form the nucleus and then bolstered them by recruiting the jobless. To that we can add FSB agents such as Igor Girkin who immigrated into the area after having done the same in Tranistra Moldovia. Russian espionage has corrupted western right wing jounalism just as it corrupted politics in Georgia, Ukraine etc.

The Russians are in the same boat , regarding the winter. If a Ukrainian push to the reactor in kursk is made, they can force a cold shut down there, severing the electricity to a vast swath of the Russian south from Rostov southward. And with Ukrainian drones picking off Russian oil and gas facilities the Russians won't find winter pleasing as the roads leading south are now in direct fire of Ukrainian missiles and drones. So truck delivery for oil and gas ,along with arms will effectively be neutered.That plus the bottleneck in Sudzha to the west now in Ukrainian hands, Russia will pray for a very light winter. However, that will not occur. And with exports down and Ukraine having a hand on the shut off valve, Russia will freeze.

The attack entails disrupting the grid by destroying the outgoing power lines. One doesn’t need to be close to the power plant. Ukraine is close enough to toy with the transmission lines.
The Russians did hack Ukraine’s power grid in 2018. It is just a shock to the Russians that someone would actually attack them.
The main goal is to stop Russian infrastructure. At present the interim goal is the kursk power plant.
The kursk power plant is the provider for the vast southern area of Russia. And with cooler weather approaching, a sizable disruption in provision would make an elegant buffer for Ukraine against further incursions or build-up coming from rostov von don which is the Russian southern command area as power would be a measured asset for the russians in the southern regions.
The resultant power projection would be neutered and with subsequent destruction of the road/rail bridge into Crimea, any movement along the southern Ukrainian border is delayed, permitting a development of further defense fortifications.
It is a peer, pat poker hand. Russia cannot retreat without embarrassing the military or political agenda but must or lose the military stationed there as they cannot resupply them. And in a transitional environment like a war, effective supply and replenishment is an essential commodity.
But fortifying a defensive parimeter around kursk and forcing the plant in a cold state while disabling key non serviceable portions, it delays repair and this at a time during winter. Further hampering Russian citizens and making plain the assertion that the strike is commercial, environmental and most importantly economical. Especially with the devastation of the oil service facility in Rostov Oblast. The winter months will be critical for Russian citizens in the south.
The base premise for this, is the vast oil reserves under the Luhansk Oblast and Donetsk Oblast provinces. Which russia sees as an economic choke point for their ability to make money. At present there is no competition. But with the eventual end of hostilities, russia's loss of these Ukrainian oblasts would hamper the economy of russia (and oligarchies) control of fuel to the west. Remember the older soviet transport fuel lines (and newer russian lines) are already in Ukraine . By keeping these oblasts and Crimea they gain the warm water ports of the black sea and by fiat a negotiated easement of passage thru the Turkish held straits without recourse.
The real reason for this war.
Money.
Anyone arguing Russia will "win" at this point (whatever that means these days) is basically a parody, and should be laughed out of any serious discussion on the conflict.
The Ukrainians are taking settlements in Kursk in dominating fashion from the Russians, and the Russians may (eventually) take Pokrovsk, and that's supposed to be a big momentum changer?
Just accept you've lost Russia. This is just dumb.
Settlements in Kursk? Look at Kursk on Google maps there's nothing there but tiny villages and farmland, Sudzha the largest settlement captured had a population of 5000, Russia is capturing cities, towns and fortifications in Donetsk that stood since 2014.

The kursk offensive IS successful in removing manpower from the donbass.
Not only is every single man sent to kursk not sent to pokrovsk, nor is any other man who will now be sent to other parts of the border to prevent future incursions.
Does it have an immidiate effect? Yes, to some extent in some less prioritiezed areas of the fronrline.

Russia has a special recruitment offer on six month for those that want to fight only in Kursk. Basically 25000 men signed last month. They are building an task force ad hoc to put the Ukrainian away. The force they diverted from donbass didn't even affected the rotation of the troops there. They have too much men for the entire front.

The Ukrainian incursion into Kursk has occupied only 0.0076 of Russian territory. The Russians occupy about 108540 sq km of Ukraine; Ukraine occupies about 1300 sq km. It’s been a fantastic propaganda move, but, in relative territorial terms, it’s little more than a fleabite. Putin knows he’s going to get it back at some stage anyway, that’s merely a matter of time. So he’s prepared to put up with a bit of a media setback (all exaggerated by the western press anyway, in the interest of clickbait titles) in order to concentrate his efforts on the really big prize, the Donbass. If he gets that (and probably keeps Crimea) then he can claim he’s achieved his objectives and won the war, and that will maintain him in power until his death. Ukraine is doing an amazing job in this war, especially emasculating the Russian Navy and knocking out oil depot after oil depot, etc…. and that’s a great long-term strategy, but whether they can keep that up to make a strategic difference will only become apparent in the future.
And even if the individual Russian is now suffering, it’s also little more than an inconvenience, and most of the older ones had it much worse before in Soviet times. Even if the economy is temporarily set back to pre 2014 levels, that’s still infinitely better than anything they had under Soviet rule. Russia made massive leaps forward in the first 15 years of Putin’s rule, as I saw myself during many visits; that’s not going to go away.

Wouldn't it be a success if Ukraine managed to destroy or hinder the logistics routes supplying the north of Luhansk? A suuply train that has passed over a bridge can be handled similarly to an armoured column: hit the front first, then the rear after which the rest can be picked off at leisure. Not blowing the railroad bridges means that Russia may want to try sneaking trains over them, giving Ukraine more targets - a gift that would keep on giving ...

The key point there in that statement us “Ukraine says”. I support Ukraine, but they are always going to spin something like that as a complete victory, whereas the reality is that there have been gains along other axes of attack instigated by the Russian military. Look to Chasiv Yar as an example of this. Neither side is actually in a very good position at this current moment, but I believe that Russia still has a slight upper hand, although that may get better/worse for them depending on how the front stabilises before the winter.

Back then Hotels in Moscow were charging $200 to $400 dollars a day and the hotels were like 3 star hotels in the USA!
