Shazbot! I was missing this game... I always played a juggernaut defence. Love wathing how many kills I got on my pet turrets and mortar blasting out of nowhere those runners to oblivion. This is really the only group PVP I love.
This game was so ahead of its time, force fields, anti air turrets, regular turrets, APC’s and a huge map. I still can’t believe to this day all the stuff this game had. I played hours and hours as a kid with this using the rail gun and sniping people from half a map away. It brings back so many memories I love it:
2:53 love the repair sound there, as well as the machine's noise when it's restored to functionality. I wonder if there's some fansite that has sound clips for these -- the background noise here is a bit too much to just crop this video and convert the format.
I remember getting up at 3 AM, typing in my cousin's IP address and joining his games. We'd play all day. This unfortunately made it my parents' go-to punishment for almost everything!

They can try and remake this game all they want, but until devs get it through their skulls that modding is the true "secret sauce" to this -- and its sequel, Tribes 2 -- their efforts will be in vain.

Going from inside shooters at the time to this was something else. I am trying to think of an equivalent thing for today, like maybe in Starfield and other space games being able to go from on a planet to space and then land on another planet or something, but I really don't think that was as much of a wow factor since it wasn't done very well. It really can't be overstated how amazing a thing this game pulled off for when it came out.

I think we played on what was called the Renegades server or mod. This was the first online game I played. My friend would set up a rock solid defence with autolasers inside shields and I would ejaculate missiles into the base door continuously removing all hope of mounting an attack. Even with the scrutiny of thirty years and compared to others it still holds up My names was #2343234322/2-5 when I made that name I banged my fingers all over the number keys and thats what came up.

The people who can't aim are the ones who use weapons that explode and hit anybody close to where the shot lands so that they can just spam the general area of their foe instead of precision hitting. I didn't know people could be this stupid, trolling or not. Go back to CoD if you think near hitscan no risk weapons take more skill then 1 shot, 1 second reload and a slow flying projectile with a tiny aoe. (3 meters/ 7 if you're using a mortar)

They should do a lot of damage compared to the skill-less explosive/AOE weapons people shoot blindly in the general area of opponents. See one of the posters comments. The master servers (the one that gives you the list of servers) doesn't work. XFire loads servers without issues. Go and get it and launch from there :)

Best Tribes version of them all... especially with shifter mod. I'm disappointed with Ascend... its more of a flash grab and cap, no more super defense bases and tactics.

Yes I have, but after a while I got sick of it. Main due to the dwindling tribes community on it, the watering down of the gameplay for modern audiences, Hi-Rez abandoning the game after only a year leaving glitches that were never fixed, and just the fact that they to justify the free-to-play business model they turned tribes into a Team Fortress 2 clone. I get what you're trying to say but I just wish I could play a tribes game with people that was actually inspired by the original tribes

This game was great, mostly because of the modding community behind it. By itself, it's kind of shitty, but the mods made it amazing.

Something about the mortars in tribes 1 and 2 that were so much better than all the successors like tribes vengeance or ascend.
