For anyone interested, a game called Midair was created by an Indie company a few years ago, but it didn't do well, and wasn't popular with long term Tribes fans. There is a community edition in the works due to be released later this year, which is being remade by fans to be more like the original Tribes, so it will be worth checking out.
This was the game that made me understand sports fans. Like I finally had a yardstick for why it was thrilling to watch other people play a game, and understand technical elements of a game at a level I couldn't hope to play. Sportsball fans, I see you, and I understand you.
Tips: - You were shooting the base the enemy generator was on top of, not the generator itself, so no damage done. - When you go and take the enemy flag, look back once in a while, usually when you're in the air, and shoot back at any followers. - You can use anything explosive, including spinfusor discs, to give yourself more speed, so when timed right they can give you a boost at the cost of some health. This can greatly reduce the time needed to traverse the map. Good luck and thanks for the recording! Tribes forever!
Prioritizing SMITE completely instead of fixing hacking and small technical issues ugh unforgivable ruined my favorite franchise left it in a dirt ditch ((ヾ(≧皿≦メ)ノ))
Skill based? If its too hard, there's plenty of AOE's to use instead of guns that requires skilled precision. I mean, the basic strat was dealing damage with AOE then finish him off with AR. Only the best deserved to pick the sniper role and such. Movement wasn't so hard. Even when i was new, i understood the concept very quick. The reason i think this game died, it's because when this game first came out, it was new: a totally new concept that a lot of people like me have never tried. Then it just got old, because let's be honest, all arena games are dying anyway: just like unreal tournament or quake. Battle royals are taking over. If it's not call of duty, you are basicall not allowed to make an arena shooter lol.
@@RealBigDeal22 AOE's were never terribly effective with the targets moving that fast, in 3 dimensions. The movement was easy enough to grasp, but less easy to execute. And I'm not saying people couldn't move, only that experience made a really big difference to how effectively you did so. That created a much bigger gap between new and experienced players than is the case in most games. The franchise was around for quite a while, like a decade, and preceded modern fads by a long way.
Yeah, but being bad it was still fun for me. If all else fails, defend flag and have cappers splatter themselves all over you. I had fantasies of being a decent capper. I nearly died of adrenaline the first time I got the flag at a respectable speed.
Tribes arrived before Titanfall and Apex Legends popularized the concept of mobility shooters to the general public. But I'm sure it could survive now if HiRez decided to give the game one more try.
i miss this game, competing at a high lvl matches vs top clans in OGL/TWL and forgot the duel arena website. Epic routes made by elite players that was used even in regular pub games lol. Best FPS game ive played that is so skill based together with GunZ the duel.
I cant believe these games were a staple of my life for 25 years until one year ago its suddenly just gone. And good luck finding players on these community servers. I liked when I could just join a casual game whenever 24/7 not a formal mixer on discord on a saturday evening.
I miss this game. wish there were more games involving larger teams with defined roles and fast sports-like and smooth mechanics. This was like quidditch but way cooler.
This game was so ahead of its time. Way better than HALO and COD. Wish they would make a new one with the same game play with jet packs and spawn points for changing weapons
Tribes 1 & Tribes 2 still have an active communities today, with regular pick up games and folks pubbing from around 8pm EST - if you're a fan of the series, T2 is probably the best experience you'll get. It's pure Tribes, whereas both Vengeance & Ascend in an attempt to appeal to more players took away some of what made the games so great to begin with. Players aren't stupid or unskilled and everyone who reads this comment could have played T1 or T2 in the day and got way more out of them than any of the newer sequels. At the end of the day we need these games that offer mobility or we'll be walking around in every game, so no matter what FPS-Z games you're playing, keep those flags held high!
I miss this game so damn much :( I really wish more could of been done to this awesome game even though original tribes was the best hands down even Tribes Vengence sucks that I can’t get it to run on my Windows 10 self monster build ...
Mine has been in my steam library since the original release. Check out www.tribesuniverse.com/ and download it there. I don't know if you can still create an account for online play.. my account was same as when the game originally came out.
I just got so pissed watching a guy who posted gameplay of tribes ‘ it’s like dude, will you show the game already. All he did was talk n try to look n sound smart. They put out a sword game instead and blah blah blah. We want ACTION.
Oh I miss this so so much. This is one of the most fun games I ever played. And I played it so much man. I can basically feel this video
Same. I don't even think I played it online. I would just play it for hours as a kid on ps2. Good times.
@@HaplessOne Tribes Ascend? On the PS2? Are you certain about that?
Tribes is back! as Tribes 3 on Steam!

What will the community edition be called? where to get updates? I am vvind from Tribes 1 demo and tribes 1 ;)
Tried out Midair, but I don't remember how long ago it was. It's still seems very much unpolished. Really hope they end up getting it close

Very interested. Any updates on the new one?

Makes sense. I only play video games a few hours a month on average, so my reflexes to everything is like an old man now, lol.
@@vortukagaming That's more than I've managed the past 5 years :)
Looking forward to more!
Hirez is a garbage company for abandoning tribes.
💯 agreed

one of the real best games they should revive it
@@Karim-uknwmg702 I have good news for you. Tribes 3 incoming!
flag chasing, mid air kills, roadkills, high speed flag capturing.... good times.
Oh the amazing memories of watching my father play this game, getting high speed kills, midair kills, and amazing Ski jumps. The amazing days..
Tribes was such a great game concept. But I think precisely because it was so skill-based, it was hard for newbs to enter.
I sucked but I still loved it

Yeah, very annoying.
Back in 2012 I used to play this and Mount&Blade Warband. Both games had amazing competitive communities. Great times.
Best game ever, before Into the Black update.

I miss this game so much!!! ❤🔥
Cant believe people are still playing.
Bring back Tribes!!!
I think the servers are now gone, at least the ones through Steam. Been unable to connect for a couple of days now.
I was pretty good at this game but there were some guys who would destroy me especially shield specialists.
I thought the servers went down because I had an announcement saying they're shutting down. I'm so checking this out later if it's still alive.
its alive through fan servers I think
It is alive with community servers. Lot of games happening on Fridays-Sundays. So much fun 😊
Played t1 for many years on the bio server

All Tribes games are still playable online, lol.
@@vortukagaming how?
More than 3 people. We get around 16 if lucky.
Is it possible to host a server?
I have no idea..this was the only server with players if I remember correctly, anyway.
T1 best of all
Does this work?
Beautiful times, blue-plating people with spinfusors on Arena. Sad this game is dead now
So what is the server please ?
Just get online to the server browser, and there is usually one with around 10 players.

I have no idea. These were human opponents, though.
There's Tribes Vengeance which has (a really good) singleplayer where some missions are in arenas and still active multiplayer too
