I think the world changed hugely in 2001, with war and terrorism. It felt like the fun and games were over and its never returned. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, sure there's always been war and terrorism, but 2001 was the beginning of something completely different that hadn't been seen in a long time. A constant threat.
I agree, after 911 the world changed for the worst, everything from entertainment to sports and activities seemed to go down hill. I'll always believe that because its true.
This is seriously one of the best Eminem interviews I've ever seen. Most of the time I see him in interviews, he's either clowning, or getting softball type questions. Not only did this dude actually ask good questions, but Eminem, instead of clowning like he usually does, he actually put thought into what he was saying and responded in detail. People can say what they want about him but it's clear that he knew what he was doing.
Eminem is very aware of what type of interviews he's doing. When he was on those big MTV programs he knew they only cared for the entertainment but when he's interviewed by people who genuinely care for his artistry he notices it and changes his whole approach
It's also a defensive/offensive postion. If some asshole at a bar is starting problems and singling you out or someone you dont know walks up and starts talking to you you're gonna want your hands up in a non aggressive manner ready to attack or defend. But maybe this wasn't the case here and rubbing your chin is the secret to success. Idk. I'm just a nobody.
I remember em back in 99. He always drove a Ford Explorer. He would always buy me and the local youngsters food. We would scream when he'd go back to the block occasionally. He was a cool guy. samsquamsh Really? That's interesting and nostalgic to think about. I miss the days when I first knew about Eminem, although watching this makes me feel quite old as well
Anas Syria honestly thinking about anything from my preteens makes me nostalgic. There’s so many artists that make me feel that way. Xzibit - restless, busta rhymes - the Big Bang theory, lil Wayne - the carter 3, lil Kim - the notorious k.i.m. I was born in 89. I feel like all generations think their childhood-teens were the best of all time lol. Hmv and block buster are ultimate nostalgia.
samsquamsh Wow! It's interesting that even though we lived in a very distant places, yet had the same exposure to common songs and singers. I feel blessed to have shared that era with people from the other side of the planet. :) I used to listen the whole day to some of them even before I understood English and Eminem in 8Mile was like my first English teacher when I knew little to nothing about life . I was born in 90 and my preteens also give me the most intense nostalgic feelings since I was 93 up till 2000 and then it goes down. Strange:)
I am literally sitting left side during my smoking break when I worked at much music the guy has this intense aura, as he walked by he said " sup man" I responded " doing well mister Marshall" I got a fist bump and never saw him again. small moments can happens in the most unlikely place.
The 90s were so much better than now, nobody afraid to speak their mind, people had actual conversations rather than being stuck on social media, the world was just generally a more positive place.
I miss the 90s...1999 was my last year in school, Eminem and all the artists out at this time will always hold a special place in my heart. This world has changed alot these past 20 yrs Imagine where and how this world is going to be in another 20 years..?😮
Hearing this interview and how they talk about Dre makes the context for the song "forgot about dre" make much more sense. I was too young to remember hearing the song as it was released so when I heard it Dre was already seen as a full fledged legend but this interview brings out that people felt Dre fell off a bit and that em was bringing him back Fascinating to see how peoples perceptions change
Imaging doing something for 25 years, doing it successfully, and yet still having to defend your right to do what you do. Day in and day out. I personally am not as strong and would probably go crazy and quit. I am amazed by how resilient Em is. Not only he is a great artist, he is a great role model, too.
This interview really showed how smart he was who ever saw it on 99 would say this kid is going places, well now 2020 its confirmed he really went places ❤️ Eminem
God dayum! He said, live on TV, that he wanted to murder his wife and put her in the trunk. Nobody could say that today, and no example of that has hit me so hard to let me know that I live in a different time today.
When he said phrases that he used in his songs he said them in same way as in the songs. lol "99% of the time" "I feel like right now" "There's a lot of people"
I'm born in 90. So I was blessed to grow up with good real music... And that's all genres... Kids these days man, now I'm closing in on 30 y.o, theres no hope.. People lived in the moment back then, unlike today.. Y'all be good✌
90 as well. I find it strange how only in few years this guy was famous all around the world, even as a kid in Syria, I had a music cassette of the 8Mile album in the early 2000's
Born in 91. Fuck 30 years old man. I feel like when that day comes I'm gonna be very sad. Imo 30 is the age where you are officially, unquestionably, an adult. Not a young man/woman. Adult. Yuck 😝
overtime, tinnman, Tom Macdonald, their a few white rappers, but the music industries profit getting smaller, it's their own fault, you can blame UA-cam, pandora, and everything else with free music. But most the time, the audio from cellphone to an actual system, sounds like crap, like when kids got the bass so high their car speakers pussy farting and bottoming out.
I come from a communist country and Em taught me how to speak English. Every night I used to fall asleep listening to his albums. 28 years old now....Good times in the former Yugoslavia.
I remember watching this on TV... Right after I finished recording the Much Music Countdown on VHS and transfering it to an audiotape so that I could listen to it on my Walkman while I walked home from school.
Cross reference that exact location and those exact weather effects and the exact same saturation level for the tape used in this video- and you'll notice that the sky is just as blue today as it was then.
Watched this interview that day in '99 on Much. Crazy to think about what Slim and Dre were about to embark on. Complete industry domination for nearly the next decade. Rap legend.
It doesn't matter the era, if you grew up in it you would say it was the best. I agree with you, I'm 90's as well but it's all about nostalgia. Kids that grow up in the 00's, 10's etc. will say the same when it passes them by. I think each era has a value of course but our own bias clouds facts. I think the best era overall would be the 60's. No era allows you to be true to you but the 60's most definitely tried to let you be.
ah the 90's. The skies were bluer back then.

Anyone just paying attention to all those 90s cars in the background
Yeah I was lol can't believe how fast times have changed, back in those days those old cars were the shit now its junk to most people lol
That’s what the parking lot still looks like where I live 😂
Better than today's cars
I love the ford explorer. A great car, but also known as the exploder.
Ford Explorer! Had a '99 XLT 4wd bought new. Drove 10yrs between 2 family members 278k mis.
Purely and unapologetically raw, unadulterated, and honest. The greatest of all time.
Marshall Mathers.
Slim Shady.

You miss him sounding like an unintelligent guy who can’t articulate his feelings?
@@Brian-vk1hm I'm just happy I was able to have a firsthand view on the growth of one of the most skilled lyricists of the last two decades :)

I remember seeing this on tv! Channel 29 cable 😂 19 years ago holy shit I feel old.
samsquamsh
Really? That's interesting and nostalgic to think about. I miss the days when I first knew about Eminem, although watching this makes me feel quite old as well
Anas Syria honestly thinking about anything from my preteens makes me nostalgic. There’s so many artists that make me feel that way. Xzibit - restless, busta rhymes - the Big Bang theory, lil Wayne - the carter 3, lil Kim - the notorious k.i.m. I was born in 89. I feel like all generations think their childhood-teens were the best of all time lol. Hmv and block buster are ultimate nostalgia.
samsquamsh
Wow! It's interesting that even though we lived in a very distant places, yet had the same exposure to common songs and singers. I feel blessed to have shared that era with people from the other side of the planet. :)
I used to listen the whole day to some of them even before I understood English and Eminem in 8Mile was like my first English teacher when I knew little to nothing about life .
We get it you prefer sitting on your left cheek when you smoke
damn you fist bumped the G.O.A.T that's crazy man
I remember this.... Man im feeling old :(
He definitely brought Dre back.
1999 in Toronto. Was a great year. 2 Years before the world went to shit.
This is not Eminem this is Slim Shady...
DerZeppterdesAldi nah that's eminem its shady when he gets pissed off or snaps like flicking people off in traffic
Yeah but eminem and slim is Marshall ooowww idk anymore
Thank u
True
Eminem is like one of the only white rappers to have multiple personalities that people know him for.
2:51 Middle school me talking to my crush.
Lmao
😭😭😭😭
😭😭
yoo😂😂
The 90s were so much better than now, nobody afraid to speak their mind, people had actual conversations rather than being stuck on social media, the world was just generally a more positive place.
The fuck are u talking about
I bet you got social media. Get off of UA-cam than you hippocrate.
@@chaosgamingtk8554 Okay, dumb-dumb.
The peak of the mechanical age, we are at the birth of the technological age. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.
I miss the 90s...1999 was my last year in school, Eminem and all the artists out at this time will always hold a special place in my heart.
This world has changed alot these past 20 yrs
Imagine where and how this world is going to be in another 20 years..?😮
He's just too real for this world.
I fucking love slim shady. Everybody in this era is lucky to be part of growing up listening to him

Killian Orannis who the f are you, who gave you the right to speak ?!?
Great interview. I really liked how honest Em was and how honest the interviewer was, both spoke their mind and kept it real.
Authentic, credible, and talking from the heart!
Exactly what I was thinking
Imaging doing something for 25 years, doing it successfully, and yet still having to defend your right to do what you do. Day in and day out. I personally am not as strong and would probably go crazy and quit. I am amazed by how resilient Em is. Not only he is a great artist, he is a great role model, too.
People connected with each other better, paid attention more, were more social, positive, and insightful.
& they said he would never last. I was listening to him bak then in 1999 & still listening to him now in 2018. Enough said
he a old head now, on to the new wave
Michael Scheller Beats new wave is ass. Real rap don’t exist anymore barely... we ended up with mumble rappers🤣
You could actually see him get sunburned during the course of the interview
Hanz Flackshnack hhhahahha too good
Not shady enough
Hanz flackshnack that was good but straightprimo has me crying 😭
You're not wrong lol
Lmao.......
This interview really showed how smart he was who ever saw it on 99 would say this kid is going places, well now 2020 its confirmed he really went places
❤️ Eminem
Well... in 99 his videos were all over TV it was a given he was going places
I don't care if you Rock or Rap nobody last forever ! Eminem rules. ✌
GOAT of all time rapper. He is the best.
Ha that's why that fat ass died right
Eric Thompson Jr That doesn't even make any sense.
But to me Eminem is better, but Big Pun is one of the best.
Tupac is the best
Would u say that if he was black
Shut up! Of course he's the best but he won't be forever
Eminem, the reason I started listening to Hip Hop, Thx EM vor this
😂😂😭 This dude really talking and rapping at the same time 🤣 shit I'm too high.
jetski Dex
Yea it sounded like he was singing Stan, my teas gone cold
God dayum! He said, live on TV, that he wanted to murder his wife and put her in the trunk.
Nobody could say that today, and no example of that has hit me so hard to let me know that I live in a different time today.
He _felt_ like he wanted, and expanded his explanation further. But yea youre partly right
It wasn't acceptable back then either Em didnt give a shit
Chris Dolmeth social media has changed our world for the worse.

The interviewer was ahead of his time, he had the oversized jacket, the dreads, all trending right now
I thought kids these days wore slim tight jeans and tight hoodies. Also, the interviewer doesn't have the rainbow's colors in his hair.
Yea he's missing the flourescent colors in his hair tho
He def was from the Future! That's why he was so PC :)
Dumb ass, tons of people wore parka jackets / bubble coats & had dreads in the 90s.
Kids nowadays were influenced by their elders.
Lmao more like it came back like fashion always makes a comeback
When he said phrases that he used in his songs he said them in same way as in the songs. lol
"99% of the time"
"I feel like right now"
"There's a lot of people"
I'm born in 90. So I was blessed to grow up with good real music...
And that's all genres...
Kids these days man, now I'm closing in on 30 y.o, theres no hope..
People lived in the moment back then, unlike today..
Y'all be good✌
Rea talk! Blessed to be raised in the 90's!
Yet youre still into that stupid bullshit anime. Grow up
I come from a communist country and Em taught me how to speak English. Every night I used to fall asleep listening to his albums. 28 years old now....Good times in the former Yugoslavia.
Nothing to say here
Well I’m glad you were freed lmao
Ayy bas tako
Kamikaze and good for you!
The interviewer wanted to say white boy @8:32 but swallowed his words and made rapper of it lol
I remember watching this on TV... Right after I finished recording the Much Music Countdown on VHS and transfering it to an audiotape so that I could listen to it on my Walkman while I walked home from school.
Amazing seeing him back then.... I'm sure plenty of people doubted him.
If you look at the background you’ll notice that the 90s has bluer skies. The golden era
DrDj Music interesting
That’s the same blue we have in any desert lol I fucking hate that cuz that’s all we fucking see here. I want clouds dammit
Cross reference that exact location and those exact weather effects and the exact same saturation level for the tape used in this video- and you'll notice that the sky is just as blue today as it was then.
Man, stop....these comments are so ridiculous.
My dick is the same size as it was back in the 90's.
Watched this interview that day in '99 on Much. Crazy to think about what Slim and Dre were about to embark on. Complete industry domination for nearly the next decade. Rap legend.
God bless Dre.

Best ever. This is why we love him. Realest
Ahhh...That 90s feel...Takes me back to a much simpler time. I am glad I grew up in the 90s.
No era allows you to be true to you but the 60's most definitely tried to let you be.
you know this might be one of the best marshall interviews that i've seen, lord jamar should watch that one
props for that
He already was 27 back then. Pretty nuts.
Crazy man never thought of that
John Bob now i dont feel so bad lol
How is that nuts?

Give me the mic, let me recite 'til Timothy White pickets outside the Interscope offices every night
What if he's right? I'm just a criminal making a life out of these miseries.
What in the world gives me the right.
To say what I like and walk around flipping the bird
Living the urban life
Dreaming at night of screaming at mom scheming to leave
Run away from home and grow to be as evil as me
