This Fiero actually looks very nice with a fresh coat of paint. Only a couple small touch-ups not bad at all. Chad and Jolene keep up the great work. A lot of credit goes to Jolene for doing a great job on taping up the car.
FYI: when I worked for Generous Motors I worked in the paint house, when masked the trucks for two tone we used an extra piece of tape just above the paper and tape and pulled it off as soon as it got to the end of the paint booth and the last painters would pull that tape off before it went into the ovens to get baked on, known as fine line tape. If it helps in anyway. Made a nice sharp line and didn't have to worry about pulling the paint off.
Yep Fineline is perfect for this
Yes I'm just a shade tree auto painter for more years than I'd like to admit. But always lay down the strip a tape first so I can back off at the paper and then when I pulled a paper. Everything they pulled off could be done in a couple of minutes. Then come back and pull the initial tape line and carry a box knife just in case I need to cut the bridge on the paint. He didn't change the body on this one.
I've had several Fiero cars over the years. Never one as shiny new as this beauty though! Fun cars to drive, although a bit underpowered... great in the corners too until you push it just a little to much and the rear end swings you around in a circular Wipeout. All part of the excitement 😂
I worked for Lear Corp. supplied the motors w seats for the impala and Buick. Those were the good ole days
I worked with the guy that paints all of National Cycle's saddle bags. In the process of retaining the contract, we learned from the Sikken's paint company, that when you paint plastic molded parts ( such as the panels behind the windows) you need to heat treat the plastic to get the paint to adhere, as they put a release agent in the plastic, so it doesn't stick to the mold. Heat treatment temporarily removes this agent from the surface of the plastic, you then have about 20 minutes to get the paint on it before you have to heat treat it again. It was my job to do the heat treatment, and you could watch the agent suck back into the plastic. Without doing this we found that you could peel the paint off, with very little effort. Just saying. This turned out amazing for a free paint job. Tim should be really happy.
Beautiful 80s VARIETY. Was such a great time to follow cars.
Chad its Michael M. Here. I've had this happen to me in my 30 years as an auto painter . What I strated doing was when a car came in . I would always tape several areas and rip it off to check and see if I was going to have a paint lifting off problem BEFORE I did anything . What helped for me was to run the adhesive side of the tape over my jeans first reducing the stickiness. This wasn't always 100 percent effective but it was prob 95 percent. If I saw it was going to lift I would sand it all off in the area I was masking to eliminate the problem. Love the channel!
Smart. I take that tip even tho i am not Chad. 👌 thank you :)
I worked in body shops back in the early 80s to the early 90s. Old timer taught me to put the tape off at a 90 degree angle away from the paint. For example, when pulling the tape off the bumper, pull the tape downwards at a roughly 90 degree angle. That way, you will not tear the paint. And I always removed the paper from the vehicle first and then the masking tape. Paint looks good, nice gloss. Back when I painted cars, we used Dupont Centari for panels and complete paint jobs. The last shop I worked at bought a Sickens paint system to use on completes. We only had lacquer primer and enamel sealer, that was it. The products now are so much better. I enjoy watching your videos..thank you.
Thank you Chad and Jolene for sharing each step of this project with us. I have been learning a lot from this. What a riveting project for me to see!
I think it came out great Chad! It certainly will be one of the cleanest Fiero GTs around. The darn thing is from the 80’s after all.
It's nice to see the two of you working together, awesome.
This little car is going to be back on the road with a smile on its face. Top notch paint job with a lot of love put it n it. Good job Chad & Jolene.
Looks good. My favorite line in the end is "Just like you asked, not perfect." Looks better than a 7 from here.
Very nice ! Love the contrast between the red and silver. Excellent job taping Jolene, you both do amazing work.
Love seeing Jolene revealing the car by unmasking the papers from paint on the car and Chad videoing and talking behind the camera good job Chad
Blimey! What an awesome job this has been. An amazing result from you two tireless workers. Just superb!!!!
Long time collision shop prepper here, we actually did it the opposite with taping the masked area first, then outline the edges last. Then you can pull the outline tape after it's sprayed with the paint is still wet enough not to pull up. Outline last helps to avoid the masking paper lifting allowing paint getting under. Theres also tricks like insulated wire tucked under the black rubber weatherstripping like on the windshield to lift it up. Folded up tape chunks wedged in the corners of parts like the ground effects to lift up the corners on those can help avoid future problems.
you and i know mate about all the tricks,he has no clue.
I am sure you will be able to fix any thing that comes up. Thanks for sharing the good with the bad.
She does a great job unmasking the car. I learned a lot from this video.
The car looks good! I saw some good tips in the comments, such as undermasking the 2 tone, then putting a final piece of fine line 1/4 inch to be pulled immediately after painting. I was in the business most of my adult life (40 + years) and taught it for the last 6 years of my career. So, here's my 2 cents. Lol I'll call them "pro tips". Tip 1: before doing the final fine line, run the 3/4 inch tape across your pant leg ,take a little of the sticky out of the tape, it lessens the chance of peeling the fresh paint that's covered. Tip 2: stick some 2 inch tape to the inside edges of the wheel wells half way exposed, then use 36 inch paper, folded to shape and stick it to the exposed edges of the 2 inch tape (go over that with some 3/4 if desired for added strength). This isolates the undercarriage from overspray, and prevents dirt from blowout of the wheel wells during painting. I quit using wheel covers years ago. A little more time and effort, but makes for a much cleaner job.
Nice job guys I’m following your painting tips on 2007 Goldwing and it’s working out pretty well. Thanks for your assistance!
Really great improvement
Love the contrast between the red and silver and will look even better once all the black trim is added.
This car looks amazing. Great job Chad and Jolene.
Awesome job you two! Pop’s is going to be thrilled. ❤️
Hi Chad and Jolene if you pull the tape back on itself you can eliminate a lot of pulling paint as unmasking take things slow for best results love the paint job well done.
I'm a big fan of Fieros and I'm digging what you did to this car. Colors are spot on. I also like how you move from project to project as you deliver restoring and customizing information more effectively. I'm not a Jag fan but like the work you've done on that car. Great work guys!
The paint looks as good as Jolene...!
Chad said it’s 7 out of 10. I know he’s not talking about Jolene.
Great job! I had a 86 GT way back. Loved driving it.
what a nice paint job can't wait to see it finished
Beautiful job Chad .....and a beautiful Jolene. !!! You both are the best to watch. Your personalities work so well together and you make us feel like you are our local friends down the street.
Yes indeed !

I'm glad you let Jolene pull the tape, a little eye candy goes a long way lol, great job tho
you did a great job sir 👍👍👍👍👍 hope it all holds on dont forget the disclaimer on taking thru the car wash.
It's a 10 out of 10 Chad your simply amazing because your a simple humble guy body work and painting is an art form and we are only humans please keep these great videos going
Thankyou sir
Thanks for sharing and the hard work you two.
Nice to see joline in the video, and the car looks good 👍
Nice. What I always do is I look for any bridges and use a razor blade to make a straight cut BEFORE I remove the tape. Works the best
All that glistens is just wet ! If that paint looks wet after it's dried , then it's a huge win ! Thumbs-up guys 👍 great content and an all around dripping paint job ! Love it !
Great looking car!...hoping to see it all assembled and gleaming like a new penny...thanks to you both..cya tomorrow

Simply wow Chad ✌🏻🏴
That GT turned out very nice. When I was younger and those were relatively new I wanted one but never got one with the V6. I did buy a couple of barbecue pits and flower planters. Especially the more standard fiero. That's what people use them for because they had such a bad reputation for catching on fire and the engine being right behind you. I do anything to cars 5 years old and the lady sold it to me for$300. When I called her on the phone my initial reason to purchase the car was just for the engine. I was going to use it and something else I think an old Vega. Kind of odd pen a 4-cylinder back into one of them when I used to yank him out and throw him away and put in V8. I got their car had like 20,000 miles on it or less. I gave her the money. Put it on the trailer went home checked it all out here is my daily commuter for a while. I never did my original intent with it because there's just too nice of a car. The insurance was high but another woman came by and I think I was in the local grocery store parking lot. I was single we struck up a conversation she was more interested in the car than me and she gave me like I think $3,500 for it. Maybe not quite that much but whatever it was it was ten time to more than what I paid for it and I had three months of use and was getting close to Winter. I'd see her driving that car from next four years. The car wasn't distinctive but she was. Plus she never took the sticker off the back corner bumper I'd put on. That's my fiero fire-O story.
Looks good 👍 👌 cannot wait to see it outside
looks excellent brings back some memories I worked at the Fiero plant for four years
Good afternoon everyone. Like!

Awesome job you Chad and Jolene, I like the co.our combo.
amazing job! we usually clean the paint gun and pull the tape back right after that.......not necessarily unmasking the whole thing but just the tape lines..
Good job Chad and Jolene the red paint job on the Fiero is looking good...keep having fun....
Exlnt masking removal...very cool paint instructions
Awesome, Thanks
The paint looks good. It's another kind of red, brighter and more orange, but it also looks good. In fact, with gray it seems that it matches better.
Great job guys. 😎👍
Greetings from Switzerland
Love the way you praise up Jolene. Many people could take a lesson from you on this.
The car looks nice. Chad you are such a skillful teacher. You build confidence that most anyone could spray paint a car. Just takes practice!

Always loved those cars. I had 7 and rebuilt 3. My favorite, It was a 2.8 stroked to a 3.1 and it was fast for what it is. Great job on this one guys.
I love the color scheme you used
What a fun car. It will turn heads on the road. Not many out there and certainly few if any are this fresh. Teamwork makes the dream work.
