17:59 The loco was removed 27 June 2024 to Kentucky Steam Heritage. There is a news item online but YT didn't like me telling you the link and deleted my comment. There's a nice photo of the Loco being lifted from the site by mobile crane.
Thanks for the information! Wow, I was there in Kenova in the summer shortly after it was moved. Somehow I keep missing these things. I need back in the loop. I need to get back down to Ravenna
Thanks for the Kenova videos. Brings back a lot of memories from my childhood there, and the train station, located where you were shooting, that served N&W, C&O and end of the line B&O passengers back in the day. The little tank engine was outside the Kenova Historical Society Museum that was formerly located in that home, built by the Booth family, original owners of Dreamland. More info than you wanted, I'm sure. Keep up the professional video work you do.
I watch your videos each morning. I have been a railfan for over 80 years. I will be 91 on Feb 5. We old timers always called extra power as pushers and mid train helpers.
Back in the day they were manned. Now done remotely in the lead engine. Some helpers are manned to help to push up mountains, then they are cut off after they get em over the mountain
@glennjohnston3946 Added note...there was a time when "added power" as you put it was also referred to as "slave" units. Southern Pacific was notable for it on their "oil can" unit trains between L.A. and Bakersfield.
All right JT, another awesome video, my friend and thank you for getting out there in that cold weather to bring us a video to watch on Sunday and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in Kenova, West Virginia, I like them, they're awesome, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day and night.
Hey jaw tooth lots of live action son. A great place for railfans to live. Cool seeing bridge inspection by NS RR. Enjoy watching your cats playing. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
Awesome video as usual Jaw Tooth. 702 axles minus 30 locomotive axles is 672 axles divided by 4 axles per car gives you 168 cars. That was a monster grain train.
Two AWESOME Norfolk Southern double stack intermodal trains, one AWESOME Norfolk Southern mixed freight train with a Savannah and Atlanta heritage unit, and one COOL CSX grain train. Thanks for sharing JT!
Thanks for chasing trains on a cold weekend, least it is not single digits , 5 engines that was different. Love the battle cats keeps themselves in shape.
Great video JT. I really enjoyed it. Trains these days sure are long! Thanks for getting out there and giving us the chance to see these trains. I enjoy them. Stay safe. ❤
Thanks, I appreciate the support! Thanks for the Super Thanks! That is a big help when I go to places far away like Kenova. That goes straight to the gas. I'm looking for a newer truck right now because mine is getting high on miles and has some lights on in the dash LOL. I found a red one just like mine with only 47K miles on it but I don't know about red . Anyway thanks again for your support!
I have read that while the Clinchfield is being rebuilt in the Carolinas, some of the CSX freight has been rerouted through Cattlettsburg and Huntington. Are your observations seeing any traffic increase on the CSX?
It's another awesome early Sunday morning with my coffee watching exciting train action in West Virginia with CSX, NS, a DPU along with a nice bridge crossing as always great trains here. Also with the super pets at home playing and the rockin' music slide show thanks as always Jaw Tooth have a great week.☕🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲
Thank you for the information! I appreciate that. I will check their site and see what they are doing. I have been wanting to get back down to Ravenna for a while
Oh that 1st train says it all...and how about 'The Rock' light blue hopper in the lineup. Nice green tank car on the 1st bridge train as well. Thx for sharing!!

Love the heritage units I saw the Savannah and Atlanta just outside of Allentown in macungie love special painted stuff and the history plus a csx yn2 is always a awesome catch
Brian, do you ever find "date nails" in old RR ties? I have a bunch I've collected from an abandoned line here in Maine. I'd be glad to send you a couple if you wish.
I haven't seen any in years. Just about all of the ties that they were put in have long been replaced. I left one in a tie on the Peavine Line years ago that I found but it has disappeared. I know of a railroad siding west of Columbus Ohio that had a bunch of them in it when I was last there about ten years ago. The only place to find them would be on a really old siding or an abandoned track.
Check out the 17th car on the empty grain train. That’s an ex Rock Island hopper. Has to be reaching around 48 years old. I believe the last Pullman standard hoppers were purchased around 1976-77. Enjoy your videos JT. Thanks.
As you walked to different photo spots that constant crunch on the snow plus the blowing wind were sure indications Winters in full swing. If the bridge inspector can be out JT will also be out there recording the action. A lot of air pressure is required to maintain safe braking on these long trains during cold weather so a special thanks to the Carmen and mechanics. Also some of these cars especially hauling spent distillers grain are harder to unload as the contents freeze on the walls. On some of those cylindrical covered hoppers about mid height you'll see a smudged line where the car shaker was attached to help vibrate the load. Once again that last shot with the new camera turned out very well in the Twilight. I think Norfie is befuddled with the competition.of a younger more mobile cat.
Hey JT, since that bridge runs pretty much north-south, you would have the sun at your back if you shot from the east side in the morning and from the west side in the afternoon.
That was a long, empty grainer. Fouled up the traffic somewhere. That shot standing on the bed of your pick up, was good when pointed towards the river zoomed in. The best view to me is when it's not full of snow is on the embankment looking down the length! Hey Amtrak snuck a train in, they want a piece of the action. Good trains today! Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I think the view on the embankment is pretty neat too. It was a little tricky getting up there because of the snow and ice. Thanks for the Super Thanks! I really appreciate your support Mark! Today are NFL football playoffs. We get to see who is playing in the Super Bowl. Thanks again!
That first train was awesome. I have seen on the news that the DOT wants to limit the length of trains because the tracks are taking such a beating. Have you heard anything.Great job Brian .👍👍👍 P.S. Those freight containers can hold up to 35-40 tons.
I've heard that the DOT is talking about limiting train lengths, but nothing definite yet. I read about that a while back. Sometimes I wish they would because then we would have more trains lol
Hey Jaw Tooth! My son Ryder has been watching your videos daily for well over a year now - you're often the first face he sees every morning! Good thing that the grain train was empty. The loaded train would put immense strain on the couplers with a train that long - at least I would think so. 702 axles -- wow!
Dear Mr. Jawtooth, perhaps I just don't understand, but I believe that a 2 mile long train should have someone on the end to contact the engineer in case of a mid train problem (i.e. derailment, car on fire, etc)... I'm talking about a mandatory caboose & human observer for trains longer than 100 cars!
If anything derails, the train will separate and the head-end crew will know about it because the emergency brakes will apply automatically. I don't think I've ever heard of a car catching fire outside of a derailment, so why would you need to look out for that?
I counted 168, not sure if I got it right but almost that many flat spots lol. I wonder how much flat spots affect rolling resistance and therefore fuel efficiency. Also with 5 locos you know they are expecting a heavy load to go somewhere. Finally, I wonder if they will switch to DPU configuration once they get loaded, and what the pounding on the rails will be of all those cars once they weight 4 or 5 times full what they do empty. Thanks for the video!
