The problem is he is not consistent so when an episode ends on a happy note like Thomas had an experience, you know he will just reset by the next episode as if the one we just watched never happened making that happy moment for him irrelavant. I plan on doing a deep dive about this one day.
@@dadocta5168 What about in the Adventure Begins? Unlucky Tug had taken back what he said about the characterization, yet he neglected to keep the outdated review for reference. I don’t mind Henry literally being afraid of rain, since they kept the “spoil my paint” line; I view Henry’s fear of the rain being similar to that of Robot Jones in the episode “PU to PE”, where Robot Jones thought he would rust if he takes a shower, only to find out in the end that his body is incapable of rust. The only difference between Henry and Robot Jones is that the latter, while taking said shower, ending up electrocuting the surrounding people near him, and caused a power outage to the town he lives in. With that said, Thomas does go through different moods throughout the entire movie. He can be rude when others negate him, can be playfully cheeky when wanting to surprise Gordon, gives advice from past experiences like he did with Henry, and can also be overly confident like pulling an express train or pulling a goods train too big for him to handle. The best part about Adventure Begins is when Thomas attempts a rescue mission prior to using the Breakdown Train, as if they’re telling us “What if we get to see James’ Crash in action, while Thomas gets to experience the whole thing?” Calebtrain did a great recreation of this scene, and it makes you wish this movie was made back in the 90s instead of “Thomas & the Magic Railroad”. I also love that Thomas and Edward have this older brother mentor/younger brother apprentice relationship that adds to the narrative of Thomas being a regular train engine not meant to do extreme work, and why Edward would even kickstart the events of “Thomas and the Trucks”; not to mention it add to Thomas’ character arc where his perseverance and humility helped him earn his place in the Fat Controller’s Railway.
Rusty somehow becoming irresponsible too at least Duncan was still consistent my theory on why Duncan was great in hit era when compared to others is in an era where they make everyone an idiot it's fine for Duncan cause being a reckless idiot IS part of what makes Duncan Duncan look at seasons 4-7 all his incidents where due to his impatience, complaining or stupidity. Also on a final note THANK GOD Duke wasn't around during hit era considering that era loved messing up narrow gauge and old characters
I want to pretend Skarloey and rheneas in the hit era are from before they were on the Skarloey railway and they just imagined their friends were with them, and then blue mountain quarry after more engines took over the Skarloey like Fred or ivo Hugh, and some stayed like mighty Mac, Freddie, and duke, and the main cgi NG characters get to visit the Skarloey railway and get to work for a few days like in don’t bother victor and the Christmas tree express
People often say giving Edward flaws doesn't work. Well, what about Edward's Day Out, Cows and Bertie's Chase? That was only a small amount that doesn't make him out of character. Him being impatient, he wasn't as fast and thus his branch line trains needed to be on time (TheBuriedTruck even made a story during his James saga). Not saying it should still be one of his main traits cause I know it would make him out of character even more, but maybe something along the line of his own limitations like in Homeless Engines for example.
I remember well when Emily was a new character in the series and she was the most popular character among male fans, mostly because of her beautiful face and beautiful shape, which made the male fans anxious for future Emily episodes, especially Emily's Adventure , because she could get into trouble with Sir Topham Hat and/or get into an accident, which would make the male fan see Emily as imperfect, and then both happened in the same episode, in Emily's New Route. 99% of Emily admirers didn't count the accident as an accident, which is why Emily's first accident in the series wasn't noted as Notes/Trivia in the TV Tome for quite some time. I also remember in season 8 where Emily suddenly became a ruthless engine, as many saw it, which many fans were not happy about. Later, when Duck, created by Rev W. Awdry, proved very rare, because Emily was the temporary eighth engine, causing many Emily admirers to become Emily haters.
I love the flags, I think Emily gets carry away by being the boss. Like she does care but her weakness would be to take charge. Also I do believe she was out of character in Thomas, Emily and the snowplow. As for Edward, he was totally OUT of character not doubt about! AS WELL AS FOR THOMAS, SKARLOEY, HENRY & TOBY. And it was all thanks to for the Thomas and friends Bible, which I agree with you of why is it called a BIBLE!? Great video, dude.
A lot of fans theorized that Emily's turning point of character between the HIT era & CGI era started taking shape in "Emily and the Special Coaches". The fact that she was humbled by Diesel setting a new record, proving that steam engines aren't the only ones to do impressive things on the island, gave her a chance to step back and see the bigger picture. She seemed to drop her old habit of putting herself on a pedestal to order others around as she saw fit and became a wiser voice of reason in the later seasons despite struggling with newly developed self-worth issues.
I've always pictured Emily as an engine who is nice and kind, but if you find a way to piss her off she becomes hard-headed, stubborn, and sometimes just outright vile. As for Edward, Awdry _did_ give him a flaw, but it was only mentioned two or three times in his writings - Edward can be a bit impatient, especially when it comes to running passenger trains on time. The problem is that the TVS only mentioned it once in "Bertie's Chase", and even then it was not directly pointed out. In an unrelated note, I always find the climax of "Edward Strikes Out" to be especially strange. You have Gordon, flying at top speed light engine, derail over a huge pile of pipes blocking the line. Even if those pipes had already been cleared away, he would have ended up crashing directly into Harvey!
What u said about Gordon’s opinion on rocky on how he got mad that he can’t move I also agreed on what u said like seriously that’s the point of breakdown trains an engine is supposed to move them and if u leave it next to the track it’s not gonna do anything
My Headcanon On Why Thomas Is Incosistent: He's Like A Child Who Is Heavily Affected By Environments Created By His Friends. If He's With Edward Too Long He'll Get Bit Of Edward's Personality Traits and If He's With Percy Too Long His Brain Starts To Shrink
Emily: S7: Good girl. 😊💚 S8 to 11: Im not going to expect this slander on my mom's favorite engine... 😡😠 S13 to 24: Could be better or worse. Edward: "Edward the great" was the only good Edward episode from the HIT Era from what I can recall. I easily believe from what others claim to think that James was going to be in "Edward strikes out" but didn't get to due to problems with his model that the writer and producers probably thought "F**k it lets use Edward instead" and that would be why the episode was so hated by tons of people. Thomas: He has his fair share of mature moments in some episodes in each era depending on how the writing of the episodes he stars in are good or bad. Henry: 1 theory I have about Henry's CGI characterization in "Ho ho snowman" and "The beast of Sodor" is that I think he may have had some PTSD from his Flying Kipper crash. Toby: "Signals crossed" gives me migraines...
If they’re gonna rebrand the show in the hit era they should’ve make either Percy or James the main character. Or in the more simplistic way possible write a story about everyone, not all at once but you get the idea.
Ngl i dont think Emily was rlly out of character because unlike Edward she got 1 real season which isnt enough to develop a character but when you have 5 like edward it really tells us his character
It's why Edward Strikes Out is my least favourite episode of Thomas ever created, Edward is my all-time favourite character and he means so much to me personally. I hated his weak/pathetic side introduced in the HIT era because it's just not him whatsoever and it's so frustrating to see, so to then see him so out of character and be an absolute dick to the new character in Edward's Strikes Out is my boiling point. FUCK EDWARD'S STRIKES OUT
One time I was asked to voice Toby but I read the script and Toby was pretty mean spirited. Maybe it isn't just studios with weird interpretations of these characters.

My fave episode where James got out of character is the episode Splish, Splash, Splosh when James is more upset about the strawberries getting splashed with the muddy rain water than his paintwork being also splashed with it by Thomas.
A lot of people complain about Thomas either being the voice of reason or being inresponsible. But in Season 5 Thomas was either mature or cheeky (Put upon Percy, Snow, Horrid Lorry and Toby’s Discovery) and not many people complain about it there
Exactly what I was getting across. 👍 At least Toby & Henry remained the same in the CGI series, though their final roles seemed to be a course correction.
I will always strongly disagree with the belief that Thomas and Percy were teasing Salty in "Salty's Stormy Tale". They weren't mocking him, they were doing a vocal impression of him. People do voice impressions of people and characters they like, and Percy even says as much at the end of the episode: "We were only copying you because we think you're grand!" Both Salty and Emily simply took it the wrong way.
You're not wrong but doesn't change how Salty did not appreciate the way they seem when his is not around them. Imagine finding out if your friends saw you as a silly billy; their true thoughts about you. It's how Salty feels.
@@dadocta5168 Like I said, he simply mistook their admiration for him as mockery. But I can understand why he didn't realize that, as he probably never had anyone try to do an impression of him to his face before, and wasn't thinking of the old saying "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." And I will admit that Thomas and Percy _were_ in the wrong for not recognizing how their impressions of him were taken the wrong way, but only that. Better communication was needed all-around to resolve the issue, and thankfully Percy explained such at the episode's end.
@@dadocta5168 For Edward, I’ll give you half a point on this.
