Hey guys!!! FINALLY hitting some Triumph, it’s been a long time coming!!! What should we check out next by them?! See you guys this Sunday for the Live PO Box opening, 5pm EST!! Cheers all!!! 🙌🏻🔥
hey sorry for the accidental spam messages on patreon i think my internett must of lagged when i sent it and it sent multiple :( but this is a decent song i think this is the first time ive ever heard this song too definetly a good song
1979 Lay it on the Line rocks!!! Ric Emmitt has serious pipes!!! And he can play that guitar 🎸🤟 Next? 1) Magic Power!!! (Biggest hit and sooo good) 2) Fight the good fight (kicks ass!!!!!!!) 3) Rock and roll machine (drummer singing - very Deep Purple/Zep/VH-ish) 💪🤟
April Wine is an Canadian Band that had a huge stretch of hits in the 70's into the early 80's. They had hits like, I like to Rock and Looks like a lady and and many more. This could add to a Canadian Music Revival!!
Mel Guzik Totally agree! Another great 🇨🇦 band from around those years: Streetheart. Hollywood, Snow White, their cover of Tin Soldier, Action, among quite a few others, are all great! We had our own private collection of fantastic bands that *ROCKED!*
Oh dudes! Triumph is like Lay's potato chips...one is NEVER enough! SO many great songs. Rik Emmett is a great singer/songwriter and a virtuoso-level guitar player. Listen to Magic Power, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight, Somebody's Out There (which is sung by their drummer, who is also a great vocalist)...you've started a beautiful musical journey with this band!
As a proud Canadian I love this band and have seen them 3 times in the late 70's early 80's. Rick Emmet is a guitar virtuoso and also has a great voice. I love this song and the many other hits they had. Always great uplifting lyrics and musicality. Canada has dozens of fantastic bands you should check out. The great white north has so many great bands that are overlooked!!!
Hey guys another great Canadian band to react to - the Guess Who, songs like American woman, these eyes, no sugar tonite - you can't go wrong with these classics!
Rik Emmett, singer on that song and guitarist, really has a high voice and a strong high voice. And you are right that is his chest voice not a head voice hitting that high!! Even now in his 60s he really can still hit most of the high notes which is amazing as many singers lose the ability to hit high notes unless their natural singing voice is that high. Check him out live at Daryl's House from around 2015 singing the Triumph classic Magic Power! Well worth it. Gives me goosebumps watching it! If you like Triumph, try Never Surrender off the album of the same name. A World of Fantasy off the same album was a top single at the time and well worth a hear too. I also love Battle Cry off the same album! You might say Never Surrender is one of my favorite albums by them! :) As always love to hear your reactions and keep it up!
April Wine = ‘’I Like to Rock”. Very understated. Definitely a closet classic. From Nova Scotia too. Video was filmed in the same studio RUSH recorded in... 🤘🏻
Yeah - April Wine. Bad side of the Moon - Andy should like the song's prominent bass line. And Weeping Willow - Alex would appreciate it for it's Christopher Walken Approved use of percussion.
I was lucky enough to see Triumph 3 times. They opened for Rush back in the late 70's. Awesome stage show, lots of talent. Thanks for reminding me of all of this. Cheers!
Woo! I literally jumped onto this 22 seconds after posted. GREAT band! Two lead singers although all the radio hits are sung by Rik Emmett (like Lay It On The Line). Magic Power, Fight The Good Fight, Hot Time In The City Tonight or with Gil Moore singing (and drumming): Allied Forces, Rock & Roll Machine, I Live For the Weekend are great ones to try. Hold On is their only top 40 hit.
Watching these 3 perform live is magic.....They can all sing and play like hell.Ric Emmett, lead singer and lead guitarist was u.f.b. With 16 albums, they got 18 gold and 9 platinum awards in U.S.and Canada....so these guys were no flash in the pan.
One of the few bands who are even better live than studio. If you liked this version watch their 1983 live performance at the US Festival. Mind-blowing.
Try "Follow Your Heart" for a taste of the drummer taking on the lead vocals. Also, Never Surrender, Magic Power, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight, and of course, Say Goodbye. With Say Goodbye the song just before "Petite Etude" transitions well into the second song. Also good if you like acoustic guitar.
This song was a real rocker in their early years. There is no Triumph 'sound" however because each album goes in a new direction. In my opinion the "Allied Forces " album is their best so try "Magic Power" or "Fight the Good Fight" which I think is their greatest masterpiece and really kicks ass but is mature at the same time.
Excellent. There was a period during early 80’s when Triumph was the biggest band on the planet. Listen to Fight the Good Fight, live at US festival and The Blinding Light Show. Rik Emmet is one of the most underrated guitarist ever. Great on vocals. I really love this band
I can actually remember debating with my friends who was better, Rush or Triumpjh. Hard to believe now, as I'm a huge Rush fan, but there was a time back in the day, when there was a serious debate about it! Great live band!
Do I have to turn in my passport, my touque, my Naniamo bars recipe and my Swiss Chalet card, if I admit Hip isn't in my top 5? Rush, Guess Who, BTO, The Band, Rankin Family, Bare Naked Ladies, Jeff Healey Band, Blue Rodeo, Crash Test Dummies, Triumph, Arcade Fire, NY & Crazy Horse, April Wine, Great Big Sea, aren't all rock bands, but all get more play in my house/car. Time and place I guess.
Chuck Fu Fabulous list. I was thinking of Chilliwack and Jeff Healy. Jeff was so truly talented. Saw him live in a bar killing it, mid 1990s. Sounded as good live. Amazing artist. And totally blind, ripping that guitar on his lap. Love the performance where he kept up with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Stevie smiling, loving it .
Brings back sooooo many memories.Guys April wine "I like to rock" is a must next Canadian rocker tune as well as Aldo Nova "fantasy" even Loverboy "Working for the Weekend".
With good reason too -- not necessarily any better or worse than Rush, but much easier to "get into" especially with the hits. Even Rush's best known songs / biggest hits still feature a lot of dynamic changes, multiple time signatures, etc. Triumph are much more straight-ahead pop-rock/arena rock with just a hint of that prog goodness in there. I love them both though, and actually one of their "most Rush-like" songs at least among the hits is my favourite song they do ("Hold On").

Just loved Triumph!! Someone said one time they are like Canada’s version of Journey..pretty accurate!! They have that great 80’s sound!! @@juliebrockett3471 wow St. Louis? I saw them on the 1983 tour Never Surrender album in Long Island, NY. Best stage light show I ever saw in my life. That’s awesome your class picked that song. They must have been huge in your state or area back then?
@@analogkid4957 yes they were!! We were all listening to them at the time and thought that this song would be perfect for our JR/SR prom.. so we set it up! It was really great!
This is the song that introduced Triumph to the States. Great place to begin. They went on to have even bigger success with songs like 'Magic Power' and 'Fight The Good Fight'. Thanks guys, great way to start the week.
"Magic Power" is the shit...also a couple of my favorites "Hold On", and "Fight the Good Fight"...Also from the Never Surrender album, "Never Surrender", When the lights go down", and "World of Fantasy"

“Magic Power” and “Fight the Good Fight” are two you should check out. Also from the same great era of rock from Canada, check out “I Like to Rock,” “Just Between You and Me,” and “Sign of the Gypsy Queen” by April Wine.
You guys are always about the ‘facts’, so I have to point out a fallacy: nobody who subscribes to your channel is ever going to angrily unsubscribe, because your opinions flow forth like awesome sauce, so there’s no reason to ever leave. Keep up the great work!
🇨🇦😎lovin it from Toronto Canada........Triumph was a Canadian hard rock band formed in 1975 that was popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s, building on its reputation and success as a live band. Between its 16 albums and DVDs, it has received 18 gold and nine platinum awards in Canada and the United States.
There’s another 3 piece rock band out there- The Police , you’ve likely heard of them . I wouldn’t do the studio stuff. Check some live jams for talent accentuation.
thanks guys.. for listening.. and playing some solid triumph... Rick. Emmett lead singer.. in his 60's can still sing up that high.... him doing magic power is another great song and follow your heart.. thanks guys...
Triumph has always been greatly underrated. Both the drummer and the guitar player have fantastic voices. They’re an amazing band to see live, as well.
I'm so glad that you guys finally got to do triumph. They are so underrated and have such powerful music. I agree hold on, magic powers and fight the good fight will blow your minds away. Listen to them
Zebra now tours around doing shows with local symphony orchestras. They do their own stuff and an awesome Zeppelin set. Randy Jackson sounds like both Plant and Page in their prime. He does their songs better than they do. It's amazing.
OMG, you guys have been hitting my sweet spot lately. ELO, now Triumph! Rik Emmett, lead singer and guitarist...so underrated as both. Rik is amazing. I love Triumph so much, I have Magic Power tattoed on my leg...lol. You should definitely listen to that song next. Fight the Good Fight is an awesome song as well. After that, I'd look at the group April Wine, a very good transition from Triumph. Keep rockin, guys!
How have you not re-hit these guys again? You'll never see this on this old video but LIVE at Halifax or the US Festival '83 "Fight The Good Fight" will raise that A+ grade a notch.
It's been a couple of weeks, so I'll plead once again: Minstrel In The Gallery - Jethro Tull. Amazing musicianship and you'll have a field day with the lyrics.
Hey guys, thanks for the Triumph! Since Rush is my all time favorite band period, I must suggest my 2nd favorite Canadian band April Wine! Man, check out "Roller" from '78.. fucking banger w triple lead trade-offs!
Guys, this made my fucking night! These guys were so important to me growing up. Their music is so positive and uplifting. They don't get the respect they deserve.
More Triumph is called for... for sure! Magic Power (any version, recent one unplugged is awesome), and Fight the Good Fight live from 1987 are amazing!
Rik Emmett had some of the finest chops back in the days for a guitarist. He could sing pretty well too (as you’ve heard on this track). Gil Moore (drummer) also had a pretty sick voice. One of the best power trio ever.
"Rock and Roll Machine" and "Blinding Light Show" (live) should be high on the list of Triumph reactions. Follow up those with "Magic Power", "Fight the Good Fight", "World of Fantasy", "Never Surrender", "Hold On", "Spellbound", "Tears in the Rain", and the Rik Emmit solo masterpieces that are "Little Boy Blues" and "Midsummer's Daydream" (a sign of where he took his playing after leaving Triumph)
Even better live. one of the best voices and a great guitar player as well. There is a live concert video where he plays the guitar like a classical guitarist and it's awesome and made me a believer as a great guitar player. One of the great things about the band is most of their songs are uplifting feel good songs.
My favorite band for almost 40 years. Saw them at Reunion Arena in Dallas 3 times in the 80's. Went to see Rik Emmett playing acoustic in 2009 in Houston and had the privilege to meet him. Rik is my guitar hero and a really nice guy.
If you want to hear another great 3-piece band, give Zebra a listen. "Who's Behind the Door" or "Take Your Fingers From My Hair" are a good place to start. 🤟⚡🔥
@@johnfoster5295 "As I Said Before" "Time" "One More Chance". I coulda kept goin', but I just wanted to give them a starting point. I KNOW if I can get them to listen to ONE Zebra song, they'll keep coming back for more.::🤟⚡👂🎼
Got to see Triumph at the US Festival '83 in California.I Loved their performance! I thought they were the Best Act on that day.Really tight.Keep on Rockin the Free World while it still lasts and is free.
Listen to Stevie Nicks ( Fleetwood Mac) and Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Stop Dragging My Heart around. Then dive into some more Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. Great all American rock band!
If you wanna go deeper.... Caravan - Todd Rundgren's Utopia White Punks on Dope - The Tubes Last Chance - Shooting Star (another great underrated Canadian band) What Do You Want from Life - The Tubes

I haven’t seen “Fight The Good Fight “ in the comments yet one if their best as well
I've requested it a few times.
We used to say Lay it on the Line was Fight the Good Fight part 2 , so you got some content covered..😝
Ooh that’s a good one to cover too.
I have multiple times
LOVE that song. That song and Magic Power are my two favs by Triumph. Also "Fool For Your Love"
1979 Lay it on the Line rocks!!! Ric Emmitt has serious pipes!!! And he can play that guitar 🎸🤟

Rock and roll machine is the 10 minute guitar solo for the live performances. Gotta watch a good live version of that song! Studio cut is great but...
Fight the good fight!
Absolutely the next two you should give a listen.
All great points!
Those are the three.

From Toronto. Absolutely! Great Canadian band.
You are correct about drummer Gil Moore- a stellar singer in his own right. What a voice! What a band to boast this kind of talent and precision.

Roller
Just Between You And Me

That song is cool in that it "samples", if you will, riffs from The Stones' Satisfaction and The Beatles' Day Tripper.

Magic Power
FIGHT the Good Fight
Ordinary Man

I love that song since i was a teen (now 44). I also have it on a CHOM 97.7 FM compilation LP. So good and never get old.
Best Triumph songs:
Fight The Good Fight
Magic Power
Never Surrender
Allied Forces (Gil the drummer singing!)
Blinding Light Show/Moonchild
There’s another 3 piece rock band out there- The Police , you’ve likely heard of them .
I wouldn’t do the studio stuff. Check some live jams for talent accentuation.
Synchronicity 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks guys.. for listening.. and playing some solid triumph...
Listen to them
Morning Gents! This is a good tune. Had a roommate in college who LOVED Triumph. Got me into Rush, Triumph, and Zebra.
Zebra! forgot all about them.
Zebra is another rabbit hole
In 1983 I saw Queensryche and Zebra as rising stars in Seattle, loved Zebra a great 3 man band...oh ya and it cost 3.50 $...lol
Zebra now tours around doing shows with local symphony orchestras. They do their own stuff and an awesome Zeppelin set. Randy Jackson sounds like both Plant and Page in their prime. He does their songs better than they do. It's amazing.
They really need to check out “Who’s Behind the Door” by Zebra. Every time I listen to it I get completely lost in it. It never gets old.
This dude was one of the FEW singers I couldn't hang with on the high notes in my younger days. Absolutely incredible!
Triumph, “Rock and Roll Machine”. There is a killer guitar solo in there as well. Doesn’t get better than this!
Great song, great album!
My first and favorite Triumph album
It's been a couple of weeks, so I'll plead once again: Minstrel In The Gallery - Jethro Tull. Amazing musicianship and you'll have a field day with the lyrics.
Hey guys, thanks for the Triumph! Since Rush is my all time favorite band period, I must suggest my 2nd favorite Canadian band April Wine! Man, check out "Roller" from '78.. fucking banger w triple lead trade-offs!
Tom Cookman Yes!
@@j1974f thanks man! Musician minds think alike, and hopefully Andy and Alex will give another very under-rated band a listen. Cheers!
Fight the good fight and never surrender are awesome jams. Please do more of this band!
Spellbound, on vinyl, through my giant JBL speakers was my childhood. So much sound, my God!
For a Canadian band, listen to American Woman by the Guess Who.
Coney Hatch
The 14 minute live version of American Woman when they are old and fat is the one to go with.
This song is an absolute banger and features some of the tastiest guitar licks of all time.
Singer reminds me of Tommy Shaw of Styx/Damn Yankees. Damn Yankee's is also a good band to react to as well. Damn Yankee's, High Enough.
Triumph...seen them twice in the 70's when I was in high school. Great band. 2 great vocalists. They put on an amazing show.
Thhis song came out in early Jan 1979 ,,,
Guys, this made my fucking night!
He still does.
I don't think I heard Triumph before, but I agree, great chops!
Don't forget Tell Me What You Want.
@@johnfoster5295 And "Bears"!!
Try a Canadian 3 piece band goddo from Toronto Ontario
❤❤❤❤
@@johnfoster5295 "As I Said Before" "Time" "One More Chance". I coulda kept goin', but I just wanted to give them a starting point. I KNOW if I can get them to listen to ONE Zebra song, they'll keep coming back for more.::🤟⚡👂🎼
This song never gets old...love
Other great Canadian bands - April Wine, The Stampeders, Talking Heads, The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive.
wow....the stampeders.........you're one of the very few that knows of them....shout out to you
Got to see Triumph at the US Festival '83 in California.I Loved their performance! I thought they were the Best Act on that day.Really tight.Keep on Rockin the Free World while it still lasts and is free.
Great band. Glad you guys finally got to one of their songs. Been a asking for a minute. Great vocals!
Listen to Stevie Nicks ( Fleetwood Mac) and Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Stop Dragging My Heart around. Then dive into some more Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. Great all American rock band!
Triumph "Rocky Mountain Way" (cover), "Blinding Light Show" and "The City Pts 1-3" add "Hold On"
Not sure if you've explored the Scorpions, but if not you should. Start with No One Like You or the The Zoo, IMO.
Scorps rock and kill! A must do band!
Still loving you
Loving you sunday morning and still loving you!
Oh....and Coast to Coast, Is there anybody there, In trance, Always somewhere and Send me an angel!
All good, gonna add "Rock You Like A Hurricane" on there
If you wanna go deeper....
Caravan - Todd Rundgren's Utopia
White Punks on Dope - The Tubes
Last Chance - Shooting Star (another great underrated Canadian band)
What Do You Want from Life - The Tubes
My very first concert was April Wine, featuring Bryan Adams...two Canadian classics!
April Wine: Sign Of The Gypsy Queen
Also, we need some more Skynyrd!!
21st century schizoid man also
oowatanite
April Wine
Sign of the Gypsy Queen, seriously would be in my top 20 list of songs to listen to if stuck on an island. 😂
You gotta do Rock 'n' Roll Machine, if you're doing Triumph!
Let’s try some Bachman Turner Overdrive - “You Ain’t Seen Nothin Yet”
B-b-b-baby
@@ms.chuckfu1088 ... you just ain't seen n-n-n-nuthin' yet.
"Blue Collar"
@@gvbezoff absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time. I'm a night owl. And love jazz influenced rock. It speaks to me every time I hear it.
Yes, finally a BTO request.
You need to hear more of these guys,.. The singer is the guitarists too
Love the sound of those drums. Very 70's.
