Will never forget my first time in Disney World. It was May 5-12, 1977. It was a family trip. We had just got through the "Blizzard of '77" in Buffalo. There were 20 of us. I was 13. My father who was a steel worker spent $3,000. You could get a car for that in '77! It was an enormous amount of money. We had a ball. We stayed at the Polynesian. We ate like kings. I can almost run the trip in my mind like a film all these years later. Aside from the thrill of Pirates, Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain I remember burying my tube socks on Treasure Island which has since been abandoned. I remember having breakfast in the morning at the Crystal Palace with my mother. I will go to my coffin remembering fondly that first experience in Disney World.

I went in 77 for the first time as well. I was only 7, but it left a lasting impression on me. We camped at Fort Wilderness and swam in the lagoon. I remember riding through the Polynesian wondering what it was like. You were able to take your time and enjoy it back then. Today it’s so incredibly packed that it has a different feel. Thanks for the reminder.

@William W. Campbell-Shepherd IX I was there in 1977 too as a child and Epcot center wasnt opened yet. So it was only Magic Kingdom but it was awesome. We drove all the way south from Canada. I will never forget that. A lot of things were different in those days. People were just more chill than today. Imagine no cellphones, very few film or video cameras, less people.
My dad went to Disney World for the first time back in the 1970's. Now, looking back at what Disney World used to be is quite amazing, and I've been going to Disney World annually since 2008-- Disney isn't the same from what it used to be.
Thank you for sharing this! It will really be nostalgic to those people who went there back then, and something new for this generation.

I lived in Orlando in the 1970’s and went to Disney World a lot! I remember bits and pieces of it! I remember the submarine ride vividly,it scared me.I was only a small kid when I lived in Orlando. Was 6 when I left to live in North Carolina in 1979! And at there are 8 of us kids!
