  • Enjoy this rare Associated Press footage of the old Walt Disney World Preview Center from 1970 brought to you by DisneyAvenue.com. This footage offers you an incredible time capsule back to the infancy of the Walt Disney World Resort. The video begins with the original Walt Disney World Preview Center sign that you'll love. It then cuts to a young boy wearing an original WDW Mickey Mouse ear hat (that I hope he kept all these years later) with his mother as they look at those old beloved Disney topiaries (listen carefully at the mother's voice...I love her southern belle accent). We are then taken inside the preview center and into the theater. The show begins and we see the large WDW Property Model that is illuminated based on the narration of what's to come. Be on the lookout for the original Polynesian Resort concept model as well as the never-built Asian, Venetian and Persian Resort models. This is then followed by a clip of a Walt Disney World Preview Center hostess explaining the Contemporary Resort concept art and the monorail. The video then ends with a wonderful shot of the Walt Disney World construction site which appears to have been cleared of trees but has yet to be built upon. This truly is a rarely seen and remarkable look back at the beginning of the Vacation Kingdom of the World. Enjoy friends...

I love the lady in the beginning. She sounded so sweet . We don’t have a lot of people like that today

That was awesome....I remember going as a young child. I remember they gave us orange juice in the preview center.

Incredible work Keith! The Preview Center is one of those pieces of Disney history there isn't nearly enough documentation on. Awesome stuff!

Yep, back in the day when the park opened, the Gulf Car Care Center on the property sold regular gas for 36.9 cents per gallon and we employees got it for 30.9 cents. Made a big $2.15 an hour as a tram driver in the summer of '72 before I had to start going to the university in the fall.

I need a time machine so I can not only go back to Disneyland in the 50's but go to the Disney World preview center and the opening day!

Visited the Preview Center many times since I lived about 10 miles away, plus an Opening Day visitor with my Dad. The land shot at the end is, according to the sign, in Brevard County, so not related to WDW, but the rest is pure gold.

My family and I went to the Preview Center to see the presentation just after they started construction. I was like seven or eight years old. A friend of my father was a construction foreman at the project and had us come over to see the presentation and then he took us for a drive out to the site of what would become Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom. The Preview Center building is still there, and is now the Amateur Athletic Union building at 1910 Hotel Plaza Boulevard. Every time I drive past it I'm always reminded of that adventurous day.
Oh, BTW... starting at about the 3:22 mark of the video; that's not Disney property. That is along the roadway of SR-528 leading into Cape Canaveral.

Wow. It's rare I get to see anything "new" about old Disney. This is really a nice surprise. I've heard stories and seen artist concept sketches about the hotels that never were ( Asian, Italian, Persian ) but never seen a video of them. Thanks for keeping the time capsule alive.

Fifthrider I'm the same way when it comes to "new" old material as I always feel I've seen and heard it all but as I continue to dig I am shocked when treasures like this appear.

Thank you for uploading this video. It's really interesting to see and hear the Preview Center. 💖 I've just come here having read page 50 of A Portrait of Walt Disney World: 50 Years of the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Disneyphile here. Went to WDW for the first time as a toddler in 1977 and now an Annual Passholder. I love the Preview Center footage, but can't help but feel sorry for all of the children going there at the time. To only see concept art, a model, some topiary, and not the finished product! On a side note, the footage at the end is not the WDW construction site, but rather the site work for Ocean Park in Melbourne, FL

Very cool! I didn't even know the Preview Center existed until Adam The Woo found it a few months back. Awesome to see what it was like there. Also... Holy schnitzel, has WDW changed! Back then in was all centered around Bay Lake. Now... it's all over the place!

Keith , I live around 3 states or at least 2 and a half states away from Walt Disney World and I am and have been the only Disney Parks Fan in My Family since My Family's 1st Visit in April of 1986 back when I was a young 7 and a half year old autistic child and here I am an autistic 38 and a half year old grown up living on support and Disney has helped me smile in times
when I needed it most . You are so dedicated to sharing that history of what we as Disney Park lovers all love and
I have to say if there is anybody who I'd rather sit on the backseat of the Disney Fan Train and Give the Front Seat of
the Disney Fan Train to it would certainly be you . Thank you for preserving and sharing .

djthereplay thanks so much for taking a moment to comment. I can't tell you how many times Disney has gotten me through tough times. There is just something about it. It truly is special. I'm glad to know that there are others like you out their that love it as much as me and that our work on Disney Avenue is appreciated. All the best to you my friend!!

This is fantastic. My grandparents, my mom, and my aunts were at the preview center in the early 70s. They have told me what they remember about it. Our family has visited WDW many times over the years. It’s great to see the early stages of the resort. I have no idea how you acquired this, but thanks for the footage.

I work in technology, but still find it very cool that home movies from nearly 50 years ago can be cleaned up to look brand new...

Anyone have information on the Ocean Park development shown at the end? Only thing I found was for a park in Merritt Island around 1970.

Terrific and rare footage. It looks great. What kind of camera were they using, though? I didn’t think commercial “home movie” cameras recorded sound as early as 1970. Having audio is a pleasant surprise.

Keith, this is a dumb question, but did that model of the resort light up during the Florida Project film or was that a separate show? Also, do you know where I could find a visual layout of the Preview Center building? This is excellent footage, and I appreciate the hard work put into preserving this.
