    Feta has got to be one of my top ten cheeses, hands down. It pairs well with anything, and you can use it with whatever else you’ve got in the fridge.

      Well, things are getting more expensive, it's not as bad as it used to be, but as a Greek living abroad in London UK i don't think there have been made any significant changes, salary is still not enough to have a good life in Greece.
      Prices are almost same and in some cases more expensive than in UK and salary is below 1000 euros.
      If you need to pay a rent etc then you can just survive, you can't buy a house or have a better life.

    Thank goodness Greece now 'owns' its heritage Feta cheese. Thanks to all the cheesemakers and owners who give us this beautiful cheese. I adore Greek Salad with fetta, and it goes into so many other dishes, or as an accompaniment with a deli platter.

    In 🇹🇷 Türkiye 🇹🇷 we have *'beyaz peynir'* which the translation into English is white cheese, very close to Feta if not better! Depending on the region it can be made from cows milk, sheeps milk or goats milk... or it can be the perfect mixture of two. I highly recommend it.
    The way to buy... since they are all different and have the same name you ask the seller a piece of it to try and then you compare and decide. It goes well in the mornings as part of your breakfast, put a slice in your sandwich for lunch or have it as a dinner appetizer to go with your *Rakı* which is national traditional alcoholic drink made from anise and grapes. Rakı is also called 'lion's milk' since you are strong and brave as a lion to drink Rakı hence the milky color! Şerefe....🇹🇷

      White cheese from cow's milk is considered inferior and low quality in Greece. Our feta is probably the best in the world and it's made using only sheep and/or goat's milk as explained in the video.

    • @ike7539
      @ike7539 Рік тому +4

      For rest of the world... there is nothing wrong with cows milk! Just bcuz greeks don't use cows milk for their feta does not make cows milk bad as this 👆 person claims. Infact most of the cheeses are made from cows milk all around the world. Let's say for Turkish börek (pastry) they use mostly cheese made from cows milk. It's not heavy as others, flavor is not overwhelming or if you mix the cheese with spices you don't get 100% flavor of the cheese anyways.

      @hyacinthe7 Рік тому +10

      @@ike7539 Indeed cow's milk is used for various cheese around the world, but we're talking specifically about feta here, and as far as this cheese is concerned - and defined by Greek culinary tradition, not to mention official EU standards - the only milk to be used is sheep's combined with goat's if preferred. Anything produced with cow's milk, no matter how similar it may look, is not called feta in Greece.

      @@hyacinthe7 greeks have the freedom to set the standards and name it whatever they want in greece, noone should have a problem with that. I like Bulgarian Feta. It is saltier and tangier, more flavor and firm, not crumbly as Greek. Also, Kirkland and President cheese as well as lot of different brands produce feta in the US, not from sheeps milk but who cares! Good flavor and good taste! Mozzarella is the most selling, healthier than feta too...

      I am a Turk but Greek feta is much better quality than Turkish one, especially last 5 years due to economic situation quality of Turkish feta went down the drain.
      I live abroad and I buy feta and halloumi cheese from Greek groceries.
      Even when I am on holiday I visit border towns in Thrace and buy enough cheese to last me for a while.
      You should definitely try real Greek feta,.
