- The Brunner CLS-E Force Feedback Yoke is something I've been looking to review for quite some time. In this Video I take the Brunner Yoke through its paces and tell you everything you need to know about the Brunner. Giving my first impressions, looking at the build quality, and most importantly, how it feels to fly.
Note: The Brunner Force Feedback Yoke has only been shown in this video with Microsoft Flight Simulator. The software is also compatible with X-Plane, DCS, and Prepared.

Yea it is quite expensive but at the same time the quality is there but definitely not a yoke for a casual simmer.

You can mainly blame Immersion Corp, the force feedback patent trolls, for that.

Been using my Brunner yoke for many years now and I still love it and it's still like new. One of the best investments I did for my flight sim experience!

As a private pilot and flight sim enthusiast, this product makes me extremely excited about upgrading my existing my Logitech yoke.
Fun fact- after Airbus converted over from mechanical to fly-by-wire controls, Boeing further innovated the conversion by including this tech to recreate the “feel” of forces applied to control surfaces. I believe that was in the 90s.
I haven’t tried this in any commercial jets yet as I fly GA. I’ll give it a shot tonight.
Concorde did this first, and most recently Gulfstream developed their own version of force feedback FBW.
Imagine the simulator set-up if you could have two of these side by side. Sit with a friend / family to fly together at your simulator set-up. When one is manipulated, the other would respond.
You can actually do that but the coast involved would be insane lol. Would love to see that though.

Thank you so much mate. Yea, it's winter time over here right now and it's a cool 23c outside. You'll love the FFB yoke. Makes the sim come alive. Just give yourself a few weeks to learn the software and dial it in.

Agree that FFB controls are an excellent add on for any flight sim. I have a DIY FFB yoke and stick based on a big servo kit (4.2Nm) from VPforce. Operation is very smooth/powerful and quiet, with similar feedback options to the Brunner and more being added every week.
Force feedback totally belongs in flight sim. I can't wait to see what comes further down the road. Impressive you built your own FFB yoke. Way too technical for me.

I haven't used the CLS-E NG, but it looks functionality the same; the MKII just has a higher peak force and longer travel pitch. (the FFB can get quite violent XD.)
The profile situation is not great... I think a lot of people avoid sharing their custom profiles because they're impossible to remove from the cloud once uploaded; I have had some success asking around on forums and siming discords though.
Purchased one of these purely on your video. I have to say it really is amazing, compared to my Honeycomb Alpha which is a decent yoke. However it's not for the faint-hearted - you really have to be prepared to learn CLS2Sim with very limited resources, in order to get it dialed in as you want. Virtually all the online profiles don't even change the force curves, which is the essence of it, they just fiddle with effects. It's very rewarding just tuning it for different planes. And the end result is totally worth the price and time spent. I was never interested in the Pitts until I got this, it's one of the few MSFS planes that won't break up when you want to really test the FFB strength :-)

Thanks for the review; great job! There are only a few decent reviews out there for this yoke. Is it sturdy enough to be used without drilling into your desk?
I can suggest only one solution for this. It’s called alien tape. You can get it on Amazon. It’s thick double sided tape. Will helps very well but also comes off clean with a little force. Use this this and you’ll have no issues. Just make sure both the yoke surface and desk safe dust free when you apply. So yes, you could mount this without drilling in to your desk.
…or mount the yoke on a plywood or MDF plate that is a little wider than the body of the yoke, and clamp that to your desk. Works well and can be removed in a second…

I have the Brunner yoke. It simulates the feel of hydraulic powered flight controls in a way that would require very stiff springs on regular mass market yokes, with the advantage that you can customize the profiles for each airplane you fly. It costs about the same as 12 hours of duql instruction in a C172, but I have gotten 4 years of enjoyment and still going strong.
That's great to hear and great for other to hear that its still going strong. Backs up what I have said about the supreme build quality. Do you have the rudders too?

Hello mate. Unfortunately there are not. Simionic and Brunner are the only two choices at the moment. Non FFB yokes are still great though. Look at the honeycomb products.

Thanks for reviewing the Brunner CLS-E FFB Yoke - you made me buy it. 😂 amazing immersion in VR when combined with a motion platform and haptic feedback pad. However some of the effects in MSFS seem not very realistic to me and I wonder if you could give some recommendations how to tune the settings in a way to match the behaviour of top payware aircraft in MSFS 2020 like the TBM 850, Milviz 310R, Chancellor?
One of the most important things to do it tune the speed curve. Make you have a profile for each plane that uses the correct top air speed for that plane. A good thing to try is downloading profiles from the profile cloud. Then adjusting from there.
Any updates, how has it been. I’m considering this for MSFS.
@@theVRpilot It has been a steep learning curve to get everything correctly tuned but it has really grown on me and I highly recommend it. You feel gusts and propwash and get a real feeling of the change in required steering force when the plane gets slower or stalls. Amazing. I was in contact with Brunner’s support and although it took a few days to receive answers they were spot on and solved my issues. In combination with my NLR motion platform and the NLR haptic feedback seat cover the Brunner CLS-E has lifted immersion in VR to the next level for me. I fly exclusively MSFS 2020 in VR. Brunner’s software is very stable, no crashes, no disconnects - just be prepared for spending some time to tune the settings, but totally worth the effort. Hope this helps!

Did you also get that? They look great. I honestly want them for myself after watching this video and hearing your feedback. I also only fly in VR (hence my name) and my top 4 sims are MSFS, DCS, VTOL VR and XP12.

@@theVRpilot actually I don’t have the Brunner rudder pedals, I use the Thrustmaster Pendular Rudder pedals (TPR). They work great for me but I’m sure having the combo Yoke&Rudder will be even better!
Irl flying a Cessna applying power (which adds a lot of wind to the elevator) will shoot the yoke out at you pretty quick. It’s awesome to see them implement ffb

Good review. I’ve decided to pull the trigger and buy one. Im a bit nervous about spending that amount on a yoke, but I’m sure it will be an amazing upgrade from a honeycomb. Im really excited to give this a go in my siming adventures.

How would you compare Brunner yoke to Simionic yoke you also tested?
Does Brunner yoke allow for natural trimming (you apply the pressure for given pitch/airspeed then you relieve the force by trimming)?

That projector setup makes the inside of that aircraft look 2x its actual size.
Might appear like that in the video because of the focal width of the camera but in person it resembles 1x1
Couldn’t justify this with my existing setup, but I think you’re right that for what it offers it’s actually not too bad price wise, comparable with a good DD wheel and rim. I’d want your screens first though.
The screens did change the game for me. Yea the yoke is pretty much up there with anything I’ve ever tried. Such a great product.

Have the NG. I agree hardware is very good. Software mostly good, but could be better, especially handling MSFS. I can’t share my profiles as CLS2Sim freezes when I try to. And this leads me to the bad part. The Brunner forums are basically dead. They exist, but has so few users that it can take weeks to get a reply, if you ever get one. I’d love for a Brunner to have an active online community, but right now your “on your own” sadly…

Oh not very long. About a month. So as I’m new to this is like to have an active community to learn, but it’s hard getting tips, tricks and information from users. And even Brunners people seem to infinite their forums for the most part. I think this is more of a “hobby product” for Brunner as I guess most of their business comes from their professional sales.
And I assume the elevator stays where you trim it with zero force? And trim moves the control wheel fwd/back once in the air?
Yea works the way it does in a real plane.
If they stuck the metal PFC Beech handle on it I might be interested. Can this be FAA certified fora BATD?
Now that would be super nice. As for FAA certified. I have cseen certified flight rigs before but not with this yoke. I'd reach out to Brunner direct, they will give you a much clearer answer I reckon.
did you see their mark 2 yoke? It's has 6 nm of force and 160mm of travel! though it is a few hundred dollars more. ut for similar price point yokes, these are good choices.
I do know of the MKII yoke. Unfortunately I’ve never had the chance to try it.
Thanks for this review. I’ve been debating between this and the Simionic. The Brunner seems to have a better build quality. Plus it uses their own software which justifies the price point.

You could build a bracket for it I reckon. Would be cool if they could flip the FFB settings then you could use it upside down with the existing mounting holes.

Between this video and the comparison between the Brunner and the Simionics yoke, you have helped solidify my decision on which force feedback yoke to get. I teach a small High School Aviation class, and we don’t have access to real aircraft, so I’m trying to set up a simulator that’s as close to the real thing as possible without spending tens of thousands of dollars. This review was extremely helpful in deciding to get the Brunner.

Hello Mate. Biggest thing to do is adjust the Force/deflection curve scaling with speed depending on what plane your flying. Start there then tinker with the effects. The profile cloud is also quite good.

Well, as of 2023 the Brunner CLS-E costs US$1425...
Almost the price of an actual yoke; at about $2k. 😅
For that amount of money, may as well get some real-world flying lessons; those can't be beat.
Besides, the yoke seems a bit smaller than it needs to be. From my own experience as a Cessna pilot, that yoke is quite a bit larger; this one seems to fit the hand more like a joystick. He said it's similar to a Beechcraft, with which I have no familiarity.
The main selling point of this hardware, is the the realistic force feedback; and of course, the various user submitted force feedback profiles they offer.
It is about 20% smaller than a Beechcraft yoke. Certainly, some flying lessons would be cool but this yoke is not meant to replace real-world flying. Its meant to compliment it. If real flying is what you are interested in then yes better off spending money getting in the air.
Ok so now I have to ask... Which one to buy, this Brunner or the Simionic ? How do they compare?

@@user-kp3fw4zd3c not that I can tell. But it is a flight sim and things are slow moving so much less important than the likes of a racing sim.
I ordered one after watching this video and it turned up yesturday, I upgraded from the Honeycomb Alfa (which if im honest is a really good yoke) I would have really liked the CLS-E MK II Yoke but because im using it on a "P3 DOF Reality motion rig" it wouldnt really work on how long it is and how much extra the yoke sits forward compared to this one when fully pushed back but the extra power and double pitch travel would have been more like the real thing.
Im still trying to get used to it, i mostly fly in the C152 on MSFS2020 in VR, maybe i need a profile made for that plane, do you know where I can download profiles that other people have made?
Im in the UK and the other thing to point out it has a £80 postage fee and i was also charged £237.12 import fee on top of the £1,083 for the yoke itself so basically it £1400 so this is aimed at enthusiasts with deep pocket that aim at the best possible experience.
That would make it nearly six time more expensive that the Honeycomb, you have to ask yourself is it 6 x better than the Honeycomb to you? As this is my only real hobby (except for flying a real plane which is kinda why i have it) then yes, this is because every little thing you can do to get that better immersion is worth every penny, well to me anyway. I dont have deep pockets but a credit card and a good credit score 😀
Another thing i purchased at the same time was the Cessna Style Throttle with carb heat from "Gear Falcon", now this really felt amazing compared to the Honeycomb Bravo because I fly the Cessna all the time having the push pull cessna type throttle is was a game changer for immersion.

My favourite things about it so far are with the small amount of using it:
(1) The fact there is no spring creating a centre point
(2) Engine vibration through the yoke (i have this set low because i have a butt kicker)
(3) The colour, black matches my rig better.
(4) I have a small keyboard attached by valcro to the top at the front of the yoke case, and as the case is angled the keyboard sits at a better angle so I can see the keys better than when it was on the Honeycomb.
I'll have to check out that GearFalcon. You can look for profiles on the profile manager within the software. There are some good ones in there. Totally agree only a few people will see the value and those are the people this is aimed at.

I am considering this yoke and have a DOF Reality motion rig as well (H2). Are you still glad you didn't choose the MKII or do you think you could have made it work on your P3 after all? Also, have you figured out any good way to include a switch panel to replace the switches you lost from the Honeycomb Alpha? I already have the SAITEK radio panel on top of my Bravo throttle quadrant and I plan to put my keyboard on top of the yoke like you described...so I'm struggling to find a place for another switch panel on my H2...
@@jgarrets I did ask bunner about the MKII but its not available in black, the base is longer and the yoke doesnt retract back into the base as far as the CLS-E does, all this wouldnt matter if i was using it desk mounted but on a motion rig I feel it did. I wanted the MKII but ended up with the CLS-E because of these factors.

@g-locmedia At the end I've spent the extra 700chf and got the MarkII and the rudder very expensive! and I will eat only rice for some time. But I think it was the best choice.

@@g-locmedia yes, I have yokes and rudder peddles that are over 35 years old with the old serial connectors… with an adapter they still work. At a place where I volunteer we have a sims that is 80 years old.

I have both NG yoke and pedals. Pedals are even more important for proper training. Feeling being uncoordinated, pushing right foot during climb etc

i have a question regarding this yoke, considering the yoke moves when you trim and the somewhat limited ammount of travel are you ever at risk of running out of travel range becouse of your trim?

Anyone tried this with Airliners? Like a PMDG product..
$1340 is a lot of dollar bills, but I think if you have a set up like G-Loc, something like this is just one more step into making flightsim more realistic. Same with a buttkicker.
I use the Brunner yoke with the PMDG 737. There is a setting in the Brunner software to simulate hydraulics. Works VERY well for me - I don‘t ever again want to fly the 737 without it…
Buttkickers also help in creating suspension of disbelief (i.e. immersion), and luckily they are a lot cheaper than FFB equipment!
I considered buying Brunner cheapest force feedback yoke. But I consider it prohibitely expensive:
1249 euro - the yoke
90 euro - shipment to Poland
308 euro - 23% VAT in Poland
1647 euro TOTAL
It's 6x more expensive than the non-force feedback Honeycomb Alpha yoke :(
They are expensive units. I'm not across all the import duties you might need to pay so I can't comment on that side of this but I can see how the costs are racking up on you.
It looks like a great yoke but they have to make it a sim yoke. Simmers need more switches than RW pilots do.
I actually like the fact that there's no buttons or switches on the yoke housing. Would you have it so it like a Honeycomb yoke?
@@g-locmedia Hi, no, not on the housing. On the yoke handle itself. Some aircraft have quite a few switches (CWS, trim, etc.) and I also always use an 8-way hat for looking around. I wouldn't want to have to use a keyboard to look around.
As cool as it is, I dont think its worth it. I think the price is only so high because it is the first (as far as I'm aware). I cant imagine the actual build costing that much. Best to wait for competitors to catch up for the price to go down
These aren’t mass produced the same was as your Logitech’s or Honeycomb’s are. Also the worth of something in my opinion should be based on how much things coast to build. It’s about the problems they solve. I think other will enter the market when flight simulation becomes more broad. Then you may see cheaper entry level FFB yokes. One thing is for sure though. FFB belongs in flight simulation. ITS EPIC!
No hardware for flight sim is worth it. These should have been around years ago especially from honeycomb who also charge a bit for their hardware.
Driving wheels have had force feedback for decades. I still remember when I had one on a ps2.
I dont know why its not the norm with flight controls.

Yea. Definitely not a mass market product. Which also plays itself in to the price.
But force feedback yokes are coming more and more. Eventually, products like this could lead to a comprehensive budget FFB yoke as the budget racing wheel market has. Fun times ahead!

@@g-locmedia Haha. Luckily the products Microsoft has made in recent times are fitting into the niche of both experienced flight simmers, new folks, and people wanting to mess around. Definitely one of the better things we've gotten no matter if flight simmers want to debate the MSFS flight model or not. Haha.
Flight sim hardware is finally getting to the point where it should be. Hopefully the price deceases over the years as well

Agree it feels dated but everything is there and easy to configure. If they redesigned it the features would still be the same so I see no real issue.

Yes it's slightly smaller but ok. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the right hand hat switch, personally I'd prefer something similar to the left just duplicated.
Fore and aft movement is the same as a Honeycomb Alpha and I have no issue with that.
Mounting
Seems an after thought with screw holes the base to screw it to a desk... that's poor... but... I used the sturdy clamps from my Alpha and it works fine. I need a swappable solution as I also fly DCS with a centre mounted Virpil stick with an extension.
Build Quality
Bang on. Internally it's all CNC machined ali parts so will last.
Cost
Yes it's not cheap... but I didn't want something that would pack up after x period of time leaving me with nothing... so the cost was worth it with the 2 year warrantee.
Closing
I love it and wouldn't use anything else now.

My first non hand-me-down joystick was a Microsoft ForceFeedback 2 which I used faithfully for years, even took it to sea with me many times while I was in the navy. It still works today, the green status light is noticeably dimmer but I've lost the power adapter and haven't bothered to replace it. I bought the orange Thrustmaster on Amazon last year when I got back into simming but after a year of comparatively light use it now feels closer to death than my 20+ year old FF2.
Now that I've wearing the modern cheap joystick out, I think I'm going to keep drudging on with the Thrustmaster while I save for this Brunner. Yeah it's an expensive yoke, but I'd rather pony up for a quality peripheral that actual human hands assembled instead of coughing up $250 every year for a new piece of injection molded squeaky plastic that a rat pissed on inside the shipping container. Even if I don't sim as much as I used to, the experience should still be "as real as it gets". Great review.
Thanks mate for you comment on my review. Yea it’s an incredible price of kit. Spoke to a pilot that has had one for many years with thousands of hrs on it and says it’s still going strong.

Here is my two cents
I went from a yoko yoke to the brunner and I thought the yoko was the best, the brunner blew me away.
I'm a private pilot so realism is important to me and I'm over the top flight sim guy. I sold my boat to buy the yoke.
The brunner is absolutely awesome.
I can land on my mains while the stall warning is going off and ride the wheely all day.
the mk II has more force feedback and movement than its little brother. I'm only buying something like this once in my life .
I did have a little trouble getting it to work but after searching UA-cam videos I feel I've mastered it.
Support is very slow and they did not understand my questions, language barrier.
Here is a question for you, do I leave the yoke plugged in 24 7 or unplug it at night? No on off switch. Yes I asked brunner this question, they did not understand what I was asking.
In conclusion if you can scrape up the money then buy it, it will blow you away.
I downloaded one of the cessna 172 profiles tweaked it to my liking and use it for all my planes. I have found that it acts differently for each plane depending on on weight and mostly speed.
On my yoke in certain planes I can't pull the yoke back all the way due the force feed back.

Important note you should go to customization under your aircraft and reduce your elevator and aileron authority to -1.90. The planes are way to responsive and this fixes it. If you find a setting
in the software that fixes this let me know. You have to do this every time you load a plane.

Got this yoke and the rudder pedals, and I wouldn't fly with anything else anymore.
An amazing combination. How long have you been flying with Brunner?
I got my setup about 6 months ago. I built a custom mounting plate for the yoke to mount it under my desk with removable screw-on knobs so I can easily remove it when needed and so it also sits at the right height. Having the yoke on top of the desk was too high. For the rudder, I fixed two small brass pins on my wood floor to slot in the rudder via the mounting holes, making it easy for me to remove the rudder pedals when not in use. That's the only problem you have to solve when buying Brunner; it's the mounting, unless you have a permanent solution and you're able to screw it on. @@g-locmedia

Asobo have actually done really well with the game pad input. It’s a pretty good experience all round. You should check out flow essentials if your in an Xbox. Will make things a bit easier for you.
