Taunt, healing pulse, false swipe, hypnosis Gallade is actually the best shiny hunter in pokemon too. Has been for a few gens now. Taunt stops stuff like memento and perish song, heal pulse stops self damaging moves and weather, and false swipe and hypnosis are self explanatory. Only thing he doesn't stop is explosion/self-destruct, so make sure to have a mon with damp. Also raise Kirlia to at least lvl 43 before evolving. Gallade doesn't learn heal pulse by level up and it isn't a tm. Kirlia learns it at 43 tho, so if you wait until then to evolve you can have it on your Gallade. And if you find a mon that has an ability that neutralizes other abilities like neutralizing gas and also explodes, like Galarian Weezing, buddy just use your master ball that boy's gonna blow
Hidden Ability Parasect is the best damp mon btw. Only one that can learn false swipe. Also he gets spore which is great. I still prefer Gallade for my general hunting tho due to heal pulse and taunt helping my crippling anxiety. No mons currently in Scarlet/Violet can have damp and learn False Swipe
@@EasternUmi Breloom has accuracy on its sleep move over Gallade, yes, but comes with some drawbacks. The whole line is cute and they have a move that revives your Pokémon.
The open world-ness was definitely an aid. I was 15 levels above everything almost constantly no matter where I went. I only lost once to the desert titan, and never lost again hahaha. Arceus was much more difficult imo.
So the mouse one not having a evolution screen is actually incorrect. If it participates in the battle that evolves the pokemon then it does have a evolution screen. Theres also a trade in the electric gym town that gives you a gengar in case you dont have someone to trade with
You are able to catch the Titan Pokémon in their Normal Form after defeating them, btw, it is also the earliest way to catch Iron Tread before Area Zero.

I know this doesn't help John because he's already done it, but for anyone having problems finding Applin eat a meal with Encounter Power Dragon and search just outside of Medali. I have never been super into completing the Pokédex, but with Violet, I got the game for Christmas and I've already got almost 250 Pokémon, more than half the 'dex, it's been less than 2 weeks lol
Okay, so after taking 55 hours on my Violet save, plus a full playthrough and catching all version exclusives on Scarlet, of about 23 hours, let's see how fast you were. This was sure a journey on my end...
I completed the Scar/Vet Dex when the games came out. It was a lot of fun because I had my friends to help with swapping between versions and so on. I even completed the Kitakami Dex on release day thanks to them.
In terms of late game grinding, I found the most consistent spot to be the cave you find Iron Valiant/Roaring Moon in to be the best, level 55 CHQ set spawn pretty often in there so you’re getting anywhere from 2-4K xp per battle depending on if you have lucky egg equipped. Took me no time at all to clear up those last few evos in there.
Every Pokémon: goes through metamorphosis and is advertised as evolution *everyones fine* Pawmi: gets a more realistically achieved evolution that can actually classify as evolution *everyone losses their minds*
Since it requires postgame and most people are clearing the game casually in 20-30 hours without doing a complete Pokedex I think that's a pretty solid time to finish. Especially since most previous Pokemon games generally take closer to 10 hours to complete at a casual pace.
This game is the first where I feel I want to complete the dex. It felt like a chore before I’m previous games but this one is different. Because all Pokémon were available, I was able to get a lot of them very early game
*14:55** Man, thank you very much for your content overall, and sorry if I sound silly, but I'm glad I finally found the charm on Quaxly's last form's design. Happy New Year.*
This one came out quick. And oh, THAT'S why I didn't remember seeing Tandemaus' evolution! If that's intentional it's actually cool. Reminds me of how you get Shedinja a bit.
For anyone having trouble with rarer spawns, using the sandwiches to increase the encounter chance for specific types helps a ton, I found a few applins in less than 3 minutes with dragon encounter level 1

The whole line is cute and they have a move that revives your Pokémon.
Much respect for you and your time you put in these videos John
The open world-ness was definitely an aid. I was 15 levels above everything almost constantly no matter where I went. I only lost once to the desert titan, and never lost again hahaha. Arceus was much more difficult imo.
@user-yn3yb8hr9pot-be-gone! Have an issue with bots? Well with only ten sprays from bot-be-gone and they will surely go away! Screw you bot!
you know its a good day when johnstone uploads a video
i completed the entire game and pokedex in a 30 hour binge. hardest challenge of my life. Had the best sleep of my life afterwards.
16:08 I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THIS OMFG “OH MY GOD YOU KILLED HIM” it has me rolling on the floor awesome commentary
Gholdengo the evolution of Gimmighoul, due to its ability and signiture move, is one of the most BROKEN Pokémon in the game!
Dude, how did you do this in 5 days? You’re a madman and I love to see it.
The grind was real lol
my friend completed the dex in 3 days
I wanted to do this, but I got SUPER sick, so I had to chill out that Legends Arceus grindset.

Tons of quickballs and taking advantage of the link trade codes
So the mouse one not having a evolution screen is actually incorrect. If it participates in the battle that evolves the pokemon then it does have a evolution screen. Theres also a trade in the electric gym town that gives you a gengar in case you dont have someone to trade with
just replying to keep note of the gengar thing dont mind me
Is there a trade for scizzor aswell or?
@@glitchgaming5194 no but you can catch it in 5 and 6 star tera raids. Also Slowking and Palafin are available the same way.
Glad you were able to upload you playing with yourself without getting the video taken down.
3:23 Bringing a whole new meaning to the slow kid in class
This game was really easy to complete the dex. I'm loving the open world and hoping they continue pushing the games in this direction 😃
You are able to catch the Titan Pokémon in their Normal Form after defeating them, btw, it is also the earliest way to catch Iron Tread before Area Zero.
Where!!!!!!
Woah, i didn't even realise the initials for Herba Mystica were HM. That's pretty cool.
Johnstone:DID IT JUST GET LARGER
Meanwhile Pichu and Pikachu:just keep looking forward he won't notice you
Me:I SEE YOU TWO
How is this the first time I'm realizing that Herba Mystica is "HM" for short.
“Ok so now that I’m playing… with myself- wait I didn’t mean it that way” got me. It got me.
Cant wait to see you do the same with the Shiny Pokedex 🤪
I'm glad I'm not the only one that freaked out when everyone in the normal gym was just wiped out. I was like holy s*** This guy didn't even bat an eye
I love quaxly, hated his evolutions at first but they've since grown on me. I especially like the shiny versions! He's so weird but in a flamboyant campy way. I love him.
Johnstone: "PAWMI'S EVOLUTION LOOKS THE SAME!"
Me, who already has Finizen evolved: "oh you sweet summer child"
Palafin ability atleast looks diff
This is really a one of a kind plot twist that your version exclusive Pokemon Professor turns out to be a villain
Hearing you talk about applin made me relate so much. I had to use a flapple I caught from a raid and breed it for applin and appletun
Applin is not exclusive to trees though, I don't know why he said that.
Gengar is actually attainable without trading. There’s an NPC in the town with the electric gym that trades you a haunted without an everstone
(That's a trade)
@@hughjass1976 this has "well actually" vibes
@@hughjass1976 you can also get gengar, scizor and slowking raids.
@@hughjass1976 not an online trade you twit.
Btw, you don't need a Bisbarp that has a Leaders Crown then evolve it. Just need a Bisbarp to defeat the ones holding it.
You need to defeat bisharp that are surrounded by pawniard, and if I remember correctly you unfortunately do need the leaders crest on your bisharp
6:38 If you want to visit a high-level area without having to train to your team, you can use Poké Dolls (available at Poké Marts) or a Pokémon with the Run Away ability to escape from wild Pokémon.

Just looked at each starter line's exclusive move, and it looks to me like they have a favorite. Sound based fire type move that raises special attack afterwards but gets screwed over by sound proof, flash fire, and throat chop, a regular water move that raises your speed which is often the least useful stat, and a grass type move that never misses and always crits
Makes sense.
Look at the last few generations.
Scorbunny with Libiro.
Litten with Intimidate and Parting Shot.
Froke with Protean.
The speed raise pairs very well with Moxie though
Your least useful stat? Are you high?
@@ZakanaHachihaCBC Rillaboom setting grassy terrain from its HA and getting priority Grassy Glide from that was a massive reason it became a top 5 staple in Gen 8 doubles, more impactful than libero cinderace imo
@@damienw95 yeah the Grassy Terrain+Grassy Glide made Rillaboom really good, but at the time of release for SwSh, we only knew about it having the Grassy Terrain and Cinderace’s Libero.
At this point, I only have one Pokemon left, and that's Slowking. This is going to be the first game where I actually complete the Pokedex since the original Red and Blue!
I don’t understand how people don’t like quaxly, he’s perfect
The best way to evolve the walking Pokemon is to jump onto the roof of a pokemon center and run in circles
It shocks me how few people realize you get free rewards from your pokedex every 10 new pokemon you register. Open your dex and click x. I didn't realize this until I was at 300 and the animations took like 5 min. You get some good shit that way
I dont understand why people dont like Quaquval's design, it looks really cute to me, especially the peacock tails.
I agree

I know this doesn't help John because he's already done it, but for anyone having problems finding Applin eat a meal with Encounter Power Dragon and search just outside of Medali. AFAIK Applin is the only dragon that can spawn in that area and the trees aren't all tagged up so you can see it pretty easily if it's in one
8:00 you don't even need to jump to the other side of the river for this, it's possible to just go down to the beach and pass over the river to ignore the barrier completely
It's possible to just jump over the barrier.
Good video! Breloom has been my catcher for the whole game. There are quite a few high-level shroomish kicking around that know spore.

Pokemon Courier: Behold these muscles!
26:26
Some random guy: Totally!
I have never been super into completing the Pokédex, but with Violet, I got the game for Christmas and I've already got almost 250 Pokémon, more than half the 'dex, it's been less than 2 weeks lol
Not sure if this was already said, but you could've used a dragon-type encounter boost (lvl 1 or lvl 2) to increase the applin spawns during Day 2.
I’d love to see a more straightforward “catch all the new gen 9 Pokémon in 24 hours”
god the Herba Mystica abbreviation being HM hit me like a truck, thanks for that

30:14 had me rolling. Put it in two times and listen to the apple jacks😂
Okay, so after taking 55 hours on my Violet save, plus a full playthrough and catching all version exclusives on Scarlet, of about 23 hours, let's see how fast you were. This was sure a journey on my end...
I can't wait to see how long it takes for you to get all of them shiny 😂
I could’ve sworn I’ve seen a sinistea in my Pokemon game but I have Scarlet so 😅
Sinistea isn’t a version exclusive, it’s just needed to GET a version exclusive.
I completed the Scar/Vet Dex when the games came out. It was a lot of fun because I had my friends to help with swapping between versions and so on. I even completed the Kitakami Dex on release day thanks to them.
Wait, 14:55 you got the rare shiny roll on the skiing gym challenge!? Dude that's so cool!
Bro had a shiny Miraidon while sliding down the hill
It's a bug. Not a shiny

I've also had that happen while choosing to press the ride button in the party menu
Every Pokémon: goes through metamorphosis and is advertised as evolution
*everyones fine*
Pawmi: gets a more realistically achieved evolution that can actually classify as evolution
*everyone losses their minds*
Aaaah, the shiny Gogoat! ♥ I love that lil' guy! What a delightful video, too!
Did he seriously just say “what in the Apple Jacks is that” to Gholdengo? bro. his design is cool and he’s literally the 1000th Pokémon. Be grateful.
It's kinda enjoyable completing it.
So I casually decided "oh I'll try to complete this pokedex too, Sword wasn't so hard"
Oh my god, gimmighoul. I'm dying.

You’d fail right away due to the starters
@@blazeinhotwings you could use a game where Bulbasaur is an available starter. To my knowledge it has the number 001
