Back in the 90's, when it was still the concrete with fiberglass turns, I think, some pals and I went here after a day of mountain biking in Jim Thorpe. We got to the top of the chairlift and gave the guy our tickets. "Oh great, guys with helmets and gloves" was his reaction. We knew he would stagger start us, so we stopped after the first turn after the trees, then did tandem runs. Well, my one buddy has way more mass than I do, and he hit me from behind going into one of the 180 degree turns. I launched out of the track and was airborne almost long enough to clear the other track, but not quite. My knee it the top of the second track and I tumbled ass over teakettle. As I lay on the dirt wondering if I broke stuff I heard from the people on the chairlift above me" Holy S*it, that guy just got rag dolled!. My buddies, all crying with laughter came to dust me off. Nothing worse than A skinned knee and a loss of a pair of jeans. We did 3 more run after that. But the next day I could barely move. Best day out ever!
Thanks for recording this! I rode the original Alpine slide back in the day, feared for my life. It closed in 2003, from what I read. As I understand it, this one was built more recently, but has now closed down as well. Anybody know why this one was abandoned after only operating for a few years?
This Alpine slide is so old I used to ride it when I was a kid. Hauling that sled from the chair lift to the slide was the worst. It was so heavy it felt like I was dragging a dead body. I wonder if it's easier as an adult.
I use to ride that thing wide open, never hit the brakes back when it was concrete...then me and another person drank a 1/2 gallon of Vodka from Delaware to Camel Back.....I then wiped out and took most of the skin off of my arms, knuckles and shoulders. The first aid guy said "wow that's one of the worst rashes I've seen here" LOL...Took me all summer to heal up.
Looks Fun, but also something you could really get hurt on and scrape your body. Do they strap you in? Im glad they have people watching to make sure no body gets hurt. Also what if a car bumped into you or you fell off and someone hit you.
Unlike alpine coasters (where the car is fixed to the track) these slides ARE potentially dangerous if you take them too fast. Most of the modern fibreglass ones have decent traction and are relatively safe, but I came off an old concrete one and hurt myself (I still have the scars and some aches two months later)ua-cam.com/video/_5xf_vMuI1k/v-deo.html

Many thanks for the wonderful story - and ouch!

i remember back in the early 2000’s my sister and i went on this and she flew off, scraped everywhere 🤣 fun times
That's the danger with alpine slides...you can actually leave the track (unlike mountain coasters that run on a fixed rail)
@@davidjellis lol more like “awesome part” 😂
It's awesome until you come off...then it sucks :-)

They are still heavy :-)
@@davidjellis 😂 it's good to know some things haven't changed!
@@hiljoy487 LOL
When I went on in the summer a lot of bugs were on the slide lol
Sit back. Looks like we're in for a bumpy ride!

ouch - thanks for sharing :-)
Awesome!
How do you get up there though? Do they transport you from the bottom to the top? Genuine questions...
Genuine answer - look up at 0:28 and you will see the chairlift ride to the top :-)
Late sorry but thanks anyway!
That looked like a lot of fun! It's good you had nobody in front of you.
They allowed me plenty of time to leave a good gap!
I miss the alpine slide. Last time I rode it was just over 20 years ago… sent it a little bit too hard and flipped it into the woods
@@cjbrunskis9148 Ouch! I hope you weren't hurt. Did they let you back on?
@@paulboncaldo3692 no it was planned to be the “last run of the day” anyway.
Is it still there? Or did the Mountain Coaster replace it?
According to their website they still refer to the Mountain Slide

It's not open anymore and an attendant said it might never open again. I'm not sure why
bro this was the most dangerous thing ive ever been on lmfao

Does this still exist in 2022? Or is it he metal track now?
I cannot see it listed on their website now

No Brakes? I don't see anywhere where you say that, maybe you applied the brakes a little bit after your... last alpine slide video... haha.
How much per adult?
Here is the link to their website www.camelbackmountainadventures.com/
I do know your sliding style is really far from family fun lol! x'D
