Alpha Dog takes place in the San Gabriel Valley as opposed to the San Fernando Valley in real life. The film is based on the murder/kidnapping case of Nicholas Samuel Markowitz. The names and locations were changed because Jesse James Henderson, as well as others were involved in the case, were still waiting to stand trial for kidnapping and murder while the film was under production. Jesse James Henderson eventually jumped bail and escaped to South America. He was captured in Brazil in 2005 and extradited to the U.S to stand trial.
