This is my mom's song. She wanted it at her funeral, we played it. She died at 43 years young. She was an artist. Her name was Tricia, she was my best friend. I am shattered. I am lost. But I am not without direction or purpose. The foghorn has blown. He was ALWAYS about the song. I miss you, Dad.

This song means so much to me, fishing the boundary waters with my brother, dad and grandpa. Start up the boat and head into a lake that you can’t see across.
I've been listening to this kind of music since before I could comprehend my age. I'm 38 now and here we are. You either have good taste in music or you don't. Thankfully, we are not the latter!
In my mind the song conveys the idea that that life is finite (the ship sailing on its round trip) and must be lived to its fullest ("I want to rock your Gypsy soul"), and an acceptance of its inevitable end ("We will magnificently float into the mystic, when the foghorn blows I will be coming home"). When we get to the end of our lives, the house we had, the cars we drove, the things we possessed won't matter. What will matter, is that you had family and friends and they had you.
I caught this on autoplay tonight and it blew me away! I'm jealous of you guys that got to live through the era when people were producing music that moves the soul! Guys like this, Fogerty, Cat Stevens, The Who. That era was MAGIC!

Your reason, Your quality of Life! My son was 38 and gave his life for others. It doesnt make it easier! He left me with his three sons and it has been so hard for them! Ron was a bit of a comedian and dubbed us The 3 stooges. It stuck. This was one of Ron's favourite songs to play. Ron was also an avid boater. He passed away a few months ago from cancer. They played this song at his service. Then the other stooge and I played guitar at his house one last time in memory of him. This was the last song we played. Yes, I had the fortune to experience so many fabulous songs from a rainbow of soulful artist and at 77 y.o.a., to have had the pleasure of being a singer-guitarist for 4 decades (before the pandemic stopped me short) performing hundreds of these tunes that captured the times, moved the spirit, reminded us Who we Are, cradled our hurts and gave us hope.
This is probably the most meaningful song in my life. I sailed many years across the oceans. To know that the love of your life is waiting for you. I feel for all the touching messages posted by people who have lost someone. We will all meet that person again as we sail into the mystic.
