I am 75 years old and when I saw the comment from a 28 year old first time listener of Van Morrison singing Into the Mystic it brought a tear to my eye. The listener simply said " This is the most beautiful song in the world " and I knew exactly what they felt. Always , my most beautiful song.
David, I too am 75 and this is one of the songs I have requested to be played at my funeral. It is a most beautiful song and I love the cosmic references. “We were born before the wind, Also younger than the stars”It reminds me too of Desiderata “you are a child of the universe no less than the trees or the stars”.
When a 28 and a 75 year old have the same reaction to a song...that's ART. I have been a Van fan since high school (I'm 69) and was thrilled to get to see him in concert in Phoenix for my bday this year, and what he does is still art.
On an extremely starry night as my man and I were driving through Arizona in our Semi, I made him pull over at a rest area. He said what's up. I made like we had a tire problem. As he came around to the jump seat side I'd put this song on. No tire problem. I just wanted to dance under the stars to this song with my fella. Lol. . . He's been gone now for 3 1/2 years now. . . . What a great memory!
I am 28 years old, I just heard this song for the first time and it was pretty much a religious experience. This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard.
I'm 64 and I just heard it about a week ago I thought I knew most of the Van Morrison hits but I had actually never heard this before. It's beauty is stunning. It's like the music and the words we're created at the same time.
The night I met the woman who would become my wife, I took her to a bar in my hometown in NJ. It happened to be karaoke night. The first dance we ever shared was to this song being sung (not very well) by another patron. We had 25 wonderful years together, before cancer took her from me. Every year, until she was too weak to do it, we would dance to this song on the anniversary of the night we met. This song means so much to me.
you were luckier than many to have those years with your wife. May time and great memories bring you some peace to your heart. I too have experienced the loss of my soulmate. Still stings occasionally 26 years later.❤️
I too experienced a deep loss yet gain of the experience of having spent time with a man who cared deeply for me and I for him. When he was in rehab he'd play van Morrison and enjoy the warmth of the sun. I got to see Morrison 20 years ago with my mom in Scotland, while I was going to school there. What a gift, even if solemn, and sometimes painful, to have such music and be able to continue feeling and knowing their presence.
in your grief you wrote about something uplifting and joyous, which is such a beautiful tribute to your dad. Mine died 25 years ago and there's not a day I don't think of him but now those thoughts are mostly the appreciative happy/sad wouldn't he have LOVED this! and those are really a thank you for the kids he raised turning out ok. Hope you're ok and have treasured memories ahead x
I have stage 4 COPD. This is the song that will be played as I am carried out. I pray that you find peace in your soul. You can tell a lot about a person by what they listen to. I'm sure I would have liked your dad.
So sorry for your loss. What a sweet way to honor him. This was one of my husband's favorites too. He's been gone for 20 years but I play it often and keep it alive in a playlist for our now grown children just as a reminder of who there dad was when he was young.. ❤️
I was introduced to this AMAZING song by my Good Friend Liz Faour-Moser. It was for my Wife’s funeral. She died December 22, 2023. She would have been 50 years old. My Son and I LOVE HER, and we Love Liz too. Thank you Liz❤️🙏🏾
1/6/2021- This was my wife’s birthday. I lost her on Mother’s Day of 2008. A year ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 small cell lung cancer. I have just months, if not weeks, before that fog horn blows for me, and I will once again join my wife somewhere into the Mystic. Please take care of each other, love each other, keep listening to the great music of Van Morrison, and cherish the people you love, and the people who love you. No matter their faith or beliefs, everyone in your circle has something of value to offer- cherish that. Love to all, -Garry
Thanks for being here with us. I wish i could know every one of you. We are all somewhere upon the mystic. Sorry for my english i’m french and 20yo , form canada i hope you have a great friday night garry joseph!
My wife and I have been married 51 years. We saw Van live twice at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in the early 70's. Huge fans and very lucky to have seen him "back in the day".
This is the last song which I had played at my beloved husband’s funeral service on 12/28/2019. He was 62 and had such a wonderful taste and appreciation of music from a beautiful bygone era. Ride easy on one of your beloved Harley-Davidson bikes while the wind blows thru your soft silver hair. I love you and will miss you until the end of my time. Rest In Peace ........ cedarknoll
This is one of the most perfectly recorded songs in history. The gorgeous blend of music along with Van Morrison's voice is beyond my words tonight. I get goose-bumps and tears when I hear this.
This song is HOME for me ... Where the Foghorn Whistle Blows ... Mamaroneck, NY ... Forever in My Heart/Soul ... this Into the Mystic IS Mamaroneck, NY

We just scattered my brother's ashes to this song, high up in the mountains in Taos NM. Snow was coming down on the tip of the mountain, and a rainbow in the valley, Van Morrison and his music were part of his daily life for the last 50 years. Thank you for helping my brother fly to his next destination.
Such is the alchemy of the singer's craft, when he blends words and sounds in such a way that you don't hear it with your ears; you hear it with your soul. You are touched by it on a deeper level. It changes you. Transports you. And you are, somehow, never the same again. Music makes time stand still.
When my daughter first heard this song about 7 years old...she said, mommy, I remember this song for some reason. Hmm I played it over and over when I was pregnant with her.
I sold CDs on Amazon & Ebay for years. I copied everything I liked before I sold them. Now I have 100,000 cdrs, there are not enough hours in the day to listen to it all!
Up far too early this morning, I came to a decision: if I had only one song to hear for the rest of my life, this is it. I've been listening since it came out, and it moves me every time.
Is there a more beautiful thing to hear in the morning? The sun is out here in the beautiful Lake District in England and I'm playing this amazing track that sounds for ever fresh and new just gorgeous❤ ❤❤❤
At 1:13 , ‘when that fog horn blows (fog horn sound in the background), I will be coming home’, is the imagery of the boat cruising inside a cold misty Irish harbour.
The first side of Moondance is just magical. I inherited my uncle's LP collection when he passed away and popped this on when we were cleaning out his house. Not sure if he was nudging me from beyond to pick this one but I just broke into tears.
That's pretty cool. Still one of my top five albums. No doubt in my mind that there was a force - or call it a spirit if you will- which had you pick out that album at that moment.
I just came here to listen to this song because I’m adding it to a list of songs that I want my kids to listen to when they spread my ashes one day. I also have Seasons in the Sun on the list. Does anyone have any suggestions for a few other songs that would be good to hear at a time like that? I’ve had other songs in mind before but now I can’t remember them. Thanks!
This song…mercy. I was a Marine and one of the few places that didn’t hold that against you was a port side bar in Eastern NC found by accident. They played this song every night at last call. I have seen the entire place sing “I wanna rock your gypsy soul” and point to the person they had an eye on. Hope that place is still standing.
One of the most prolific songs ever written. My husband passed away 6/16/19 and he rode Harleys since the '60s. A legend in our local biker community. Christmas is so hard he loved his family and many friends.
Sorry for you loss Maureen just saw your note as I was putting together song list for my wonderful brother's funeral next week. It's been so bittersweet to listen to all his favorites... blessings
Absolutely beautiful combination of music and lyrics. This is the kind of song every songwriter dreams of making. That transcendant blend of music, lyric, and melody that rocks the soul and brings you back to the days of old! They just don't make music like this any more. Kind of sad!
No they do not. I am so happy I have an 18yr son who loves most genres of music, old and new, and makes me smile when he discovers older artists like Van Morrison. Now he is listening to all the songs from a favorite growing up, Thin Lizzy, Boys Are Back In Town, bought him the cd when he was 5, as of today he has listened to all of their 12 Albums, If he likes a song from an artist, he will listen to all of the artist songs.
@@lilmisssunshine677 I also have an 18 year old son who shares my same tastes in music which is basically all music that makes me feel good no matter the genre.
This has been my favorite song since I was 14 years old, 1987. It is the most pure and spiritual demonstration of my being. I could not describe myself any better
My Dad passed away in . 2016. And I still miss him. But he introduced me, and taught me music!! He was a better guitar player than I could ever hope to be. Played with Hank Snow. I still play guitar, and keep trying!! See you up there, dad, we,ll talk to the good lord together!! 😂 C
Was at his show in Oakland, CA a few years ago and he dedicated this song to me! The only words he spoke during the whole show. Totally blown away. I used to play this song on the bridge of the ship I was Captain on when we would depart from our last US port and headed out to the other side of the earth,.. Such an honor for me. Only wish I had been recording it when he said it.
I've always loved this song. A good friend/neighbor passed recently and this song was part of Andre's Celebration of Life. He was a fisherman out of Alaska when he was younger, and a free spirit. When I saw this song on Facebook, When Andre died, his wife, Abby, posted a notice on Facebook telling his friends that he'd passed. Along with that notice was this song, with the lyrics. It was perfect for Andre, and reminds me of him so much. It touches me when I hear it. I noticed a lot of men want this song played at their funeral, and I'm not surprised. Best song Van Morrison ever did, and it's unforgettable. Like Abby and Andre. I will forever think of our friends when I hear it playing. The sad thing is this song is timeless, but I bet that a couple of generations don't even know it, and it's one of the best songs that was ever written.
Many years ago I pulled over on the side of the road, with this song blaring from cassette. I was on my way to meet this young man for the very first time. I got out of my car, and standing in a gravel parking lot with only the dimness of a street light, I listened and sang the words. He later became my husband and the love of my life. I hear this song every now and then and still to this day tear up the same way I did that first night.
Not many artists have the ability to create music that transcends. I'm a musician and love this kind of music. Other great artists that have this kind of emotional impact for me are Dan Fogleberg "Longer", King Harvest "Dancing In The Moonlight", James Taylor "Fire and Rain", The Beatles "Here Comes The Sun", Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine", Otis Redding "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay", Cat Steven's "Wild World", Bob Dylan "Dont Think Twice It's Alright", Jack Johnson "Better Together", Coldplay "Fix You", Chris Cornell "Dead Wishes", Music like this evokes so many emotions at the same time. That is the kind of music that is the most powerful.
This song is my Panacea. I could put it on repeat till my ears bleed and I still wouldn’t stop listening... true masterpiece. Pure mastery. Love you Van 🤘🏻🙏🏼💋
To all of you who have extended compassion to me in your posts about my failed marriage know that your messages are a comfort. I am amazed at how much music can touch the soul and this song takes me back to 1976 when I first met the love of my life in California. Neither of us had any plan for life, but the passion that our hearts felt for each other guided us in a whirlwind ride that led us to marriage within 6 months. I was a young guy of 22 from Michigan and she was only 18 having just moved to CA from Delaware... I fell in love w/her the first time I laid eyes on her and our romance was incredible...I actually proposed to her on the Golden Gate Bridge... This song and several others bring me to walking the beach in Santa Cruz/CA sharing a Togo's sub and a Coors beer and listening to Steely Dan in the car as we drove back to San Jose. While I have fond memories of the coast of CA, many of our memories of trips in MI were to locations around Lake Michigan, Superior & Lake Huron. The last few years of our marriage our special place was Sleeping Bear Dunes on Lake Michigan. The last time we visited there, we walked the dunes and sat & shared a sub overlooking the lake. I will never forget this and when I finally pass I want my ashes to be strewn across those dunes. I'm pretty sure I'll be thinking of "Into the Mystic" when I pass along w/another song that represents my broken heart - "Tryin' to Get Over You" by Vince Gill. Thank you all for your kindness - God let me rest...
Thank you for your story. It touched my soul as I am the same age as your wife. I lived in San Jose and spent a lot of time at the beach in Santa Cruz. That’s where I met my husband. We loved going to that little Mexican food stand right on that traffic island, I think it was La Palma. We didn’t have the same kind of relationship as you two but the memories are good. I also remember the very first Togo’s that opened in Campbell in an old house. I miss those days.
Wow... im 54 now n i grew up with all the 70s greats on the AM.. YES lol am radio and how is it that ive never heard this? Absolutely took me back in time in my moms car, my feet reaching half way tothe floor, sisting in the back seat as a sloft summer breeze blew on my face sitting still n listening very intensely to the music and hearing... and feelin every lyric! Music is my world, how is it ive never heard this befor? Im ordering this album right now! What a trippy exsperience back in time... what a feeling of the great 70's !
I sat at a friends house this past spring, beautiful day next to her pool watching squirrels breeze blowing awesome blue sky when this song came on and I hadn’t heard it in a long time, it just hit me different that day. It was beautiful and peaceful and it made me smile. That 5 minutes will be something I will always remember. The way I felt will always stay with me. ❤
I'm a 70's baby and heard this song for the first time later in my 20's ...all I could think is wow how did I miss this song, it brought tears to my eyes then and still does ❤
Me to that's what I am doing going be 60 in October I love all this music I live for music God bless u I am a widow me and my late hubby had so much fun in the day.❤❤❤
This was one of woman's favorite songs. We danced like fools to this. Cancer took her from us April 2023. It brings joy remembering and pain for the loss for such an amazing woman
I'm 65 today and someone sent me this as my BD gift........ Breaks my heart; makes me sigh, makes me cry, makes me more of a man -every time. Thank you.
I am so much into THE greatest blues-soul artist known as Van Morrison that I intend to have his music played for 2-3 hours over speakers at my funeral service for all to enjoy!!!
Yes! 12/17/2024...I am 73 and rediscovered this tune recently, when it popped up on Sirius' The Bridge. I can't stop playing it. Love the sax in this...haunting. It takes me back to my youth and some 1970 memories....Oh, my gypsy soul...When that fog horn blows....no need to fear it. I still want to hang out for a while, however! ☮️🕊🕯
My little bird, my wonderful wife Lori, had a stroke July 27th 2012, seven years ago tonight. She passed away December 7, 2018. I find solace in this song. It hurts too. Save me a seat sweetie
Mr barnes sir, i am so sorry for your loss, look to the sky ,your wife lori is a new star looking down at you and shining . Take care sir ,i too lost someone special ,my mum . Take care ,👍👍👍
My friend this is my first time hearing this song., first time reading the comments. Yours has just blown me away... This is how I now feel about the lady I've had with me for the last year.. If you felt this way about your lady .. You were a lucky man. I regret your huge loss. Peace and love my brother
How have I missed this song? Been listening and playing music for 47 years and I’ve never heard this before. Wow! It just pulls you in and never leaves you.
My father, whom I looked for nearly all my life and didn't didn't find (only through Skype have we seen each other) until I was 47 yrs, 7 months, 7 days old (he was sent to Vietnam and then went to Canada) introduced me to this song and my whole heart just shattered. What a beautiful, deeply meaningful song that will always remind me of my Dad. We both sat on Skype and listened to it and cried.
🎉Takes me back to a happy time when my husband and I travelled across Australia like two gypsies and into the mystic listening to van the man all the way across the Nullarbor plains🎉
This song is a testiment that deja vu is real. This takes me through my subconscious into past lives, It's a journey through lifetimes. Van morrison voice is top notch and with that sax...whoo.
A buddy of mine just died 2 days ago at age 70, after 50 years of friendship. His favorite song was Into the Mystic, and he loved Van Morrison. I'm listening to this song and thinking of him on and on.
Can anybody out there tell me when was the last time that you have heard somebody singing songs that brought you off into the mystic, touched your very soul, helped you to smell the sea and touch the sky. No way Van it is not too late to stop, keep on going my most favorite Celtic 1st cousin, keep spreading you magic
I'm with you 100%. That crisp crackle of vinyl gives me goose bumps. There's nothing like buying a new album, taking it out of the sleeve and the beautiful sound that you get on the first play.
CD are better than LPs in other ways. They are "Compact" . Also if you scratch a CD its likely not totally buggered. And if it is you can still get it fixed. Some CDs sound like garbage and others sound amazing. There are so many types of CDs like Super Audio (SACD) and bands are continuously putting out newly remastered albums as technology develops. I like vinyl too. I just see CDs as a great invention too. Better for carrying around than LPs and less fragile. And unlike cassettes you dont have to rewind and fast forward.
What about digital music? Do you feel that’s equal to vinyl? Especially when I’m wearing earphones and listening to digital I think it sounds just incredible..
I love many songs by Van Morrison, but since this song first came out, it has had my heart... It can make me smile and cry at the same time. I never tire of it. ❤🦋
High 28-year-old! I love how you loved Van Morrison's song into the mystic. I am 40 years older than you. It has always been my favorite song! Right on! So glad to see and hear that you and younger ones are loving these oldies. Actually it doesn't really matter, it's the lyrics, the emotion and so on. And if it makes you feel good that's what is important. Bravo to you.... Cj

I sold CDs on Amazon & Ebay for years. I copied everything I liked before I sold them. Now I have 100,000 cdrs, there are not enough hours in the day to listen to it all!
I am Gypsy... this song touched my spirit the first time I heard it. Thank you.
Y lady keep smillin
Nothing beats a classic song on vinyl, with the hisses that medium makes.
Up far too early this morning, I came to a decision: if I had only one song to hear for the rest of my life, this is it. I've been listening since it came out, and it moves me every time.
Feel that
Every time, a different way.
Totally agree!!
Is there a more beautiful thing to hear in the morning? The sun is out here in the beautiful Lake District in England and I'm playing this amazing track that sounds for ever fresh and new just gorgeous❤ ❤❤❤
Can't believe this is over 50 years old. Like fine wine, it's aged beautifully.
At 1:13 , ‘when that fog horn blows (fog horn sound in the background), I will be coming home’, is the imagery of the boat cruising inside a cold misty Irish harbour.
Just Saw this? I'M an 11-3 Born Child of God. Scorpio Sun 🌞
The first side of Moondance is just magical. I inherited my uncle's LP collection when he passed away and popped this on when we were cleaning out his house. Not sure if he was nudging me from beyond to pick this one but I just broke into tears.
Cool!!
That's pretty cool. Still one of my top five albums. No doubt in my mind that there was a force - or call it a spirit if you will- which had you pick out that album at that moment.
I would say he's reaching out to let you know his spirit is with you. You were meant to hear it just then.
😭
Bought the album when it first came out. I'm now 75 and it still grabs me! Sadly a very much underrated track. Perfect hymn for my funeral .
Why do i smile and cry at the same time when i hear this song ????
Andrew Bull absolutely same feeling

Because it touches your very soul..x

because its beautiful
One of the most prolific songs ever written. My husband passed away 6/16/19 and he rode Harleys since the '60s. A legend in our local biker community. Christmas is so hard he loved his family and many friends.

Sorry for you loss Maureen just saw your note as I was putting together song list for my wonderful brother's funeral next week. It's been so bittersweet to listen to all his favorites... blessings

This song digs down in my soul and recovers feelings I thought were gone
Professional experience ever gorgeous and beautiful
@@lilmisssunshine677 I also have an 18 year old son who shares my same tastes in music which is basically all music that makes me feel good no matter the genre.
Totally agree. My funeral song. 71 years old, born 15 miles from Van the Man. The most beautiful song ever.....
This has been my favorite song since I was 14 years old, 1987. It is the most pure and spiritual demonstration of my being. I could not describe myself any better
three minutes and thirty four seconds of music perfection.
My Dad passed away in . 2016.
And I still miss him. But he introduced
me, and taught me music!! He was a better guitar player than I could ever hope to be.
Played with Hank Snow.
I still play guitar, and keep trying!!
See you up there, dad, we,ll talk to the good lord together!!

Hans Amador that is an awesome story. Thank you for sharing.
What an honor and a thrill....you don't need to have it on a recording. You have it in your heart. You're a lucky man.
Why did he dedicate the song to you?
Sweet
@@georgeivanmorrison6769 There is absolutely nothing that can compare to your soullifting music Van. Thank You.
Your heart and soul knew you were about to meet your mate.❤️
Thats truly beautiful Becky, lucky man..
Thank you for this truly amazing story.
The fog horn sound when he sings ‘When the fog horn blows’ Goosebumps
Time for a new move, Randy. I'll buy you a beer should you ever visit Spain!
I'll buy you one too! Kryss von Walz - Facebook
The voice, the words, the poetry, the story told, the feeling, the magic mystic, the man, It all adds up to Van Morrison.
so true he feels his music and so do others love it
@@ceciliaharris4363 Thanks, We are the very lucky people to have Van still making and playing his music

This song feels like a warm hug.

When I was younger, I thought this song was good. But I was wrong!
It is absolutely perfect.
Love Van Morrison! His music just puts me at rest and I can forget any troubles.
Van Morrison has the Soul of an Angel
Nothing beats the pure sound of vinyl. The depth, the sounds of all the instruments, subtle voice. Too bad CDs didn’t translate well.
I have never been a huge Van Morrison fan ( sorry) this songs makes up for everything! It reaches your toes!! 🙂
I'm with you 100%. That crisp crackle of vinyl gives me goose bumps. There's nothing like buying a new album, taking it out of the sleeve and the beautiful sound that you get on the first play.
Looks like a Rega Planar 6 turntable, two grand plus. Nice kit!
Absolutely my favorite song of Van Morrison.
Thank you so much for bringing this piece back into more than memories. There is an 83-year-old with a smile on his face and tears in his eyes
Always loved this song. This was a time when you found gems like this, because you listened to the entire album.
I love many songs by Van Morrison, but since this song first came out, it has had my heart... It can make me smile and cry at the same time. I never tire of it. ❤🦋
This is one of my favorite songs. It has been played in a lot of movies over the years. But it captures every feeling you have
High 28-year-old! Cj
It's like we never want the song to end...as soon as it begins, I want to hear it again and again.
Still listening 54 years later. Classic Van Morrison who wrote and sang this song. If ever there was a perfect song, this is it.
