What happens to a man's soul after he dies?... Where does it go? Although science does not answer these questions, Garudapurana does. Garuda Purana is one of the 18 Puranas written by Vyasa Maharishi. This is a legend of the Vaishnava tradition. This myth. Lord Vishnu himself instructed his vehicle Garuda. That is why this Purana is called "Garuda Purana". This Purana describes the hell world to which man goes after death. Also there is a description of the various sins committed by man, their punishments in hell, their expiation if they commit sins, various ways of earning merit, and the deeds of the Father. Why read Garuda Purana? Garuda Purana informs us about our actions. It tells us that good deeds in our life will take us to heaven and selfish actions will take us to hell. It informs about the sufferings and joys of the fate due to the karmas of the past life. It tells about rebirth. It tells what happens after death. And explains how a person will enter heaven or hell depending on his life. In Garuda Purana, things like journey after death, karma, release from karma - are detailed. In it omens seen before death, path to hell, ghost life, punishments in hell, dream omens and evil deeds are described like no other Purana. This Purana has three parts. Acharakanda (Karmakanda), Pretakanda (Dharmakanda), Brahma Kanda (Mokshakanda) The first kanda is called Purvakanda and the last two kandas together are called Uttara Khandama. Acharakanda - 240 chapters. Pretakanda - 50 chapters, Brahmakanda - 30 chapters, 14 on Puranas, 48 on Medicine, 61 on Dharmashastras, 8 on Ethics, 13 on Ratnashastra, 43 on Astrology, Material, Grammatical etc. According to Garuda Purana there are total 28 hells.
