i cant decide between the two personally. the first one has a lot going for it but 2nd has a few things that the first doesnt so for me they are equal at the very least.
@@YourChannel-r4v this is a fact. For some reason I own the PSX version and the frame rate is weird and game is choppy. Got this old dreamcast i thrifted years ago up and running after finally getting cords to test it and i instantly got this game. It runs flawlessly smooth frame rate no issues and im having tons of fun dreamcast version on top
This whole game was made by 5 guys is mind boggling to me. The fact that some gameplay feature like ramming into vehicle could be coded over lunch also sounds wild. Thanks for making this video, this brings back a lot of good memories!
I really enjoyed this video. I had so many hours playing this as a kid. Surprised there isn’t many informative videos on this game out there. Thanks for doing this!!!
Very cool, wish devs would talk more about their experiences because it's always so interesting and really opens your eyes about certain decisions and humanizes the people making the games
Fantastic Video, mate. Like you I played 2nd offense instead of the first one, but over the years the original V8 grew on me, it has a lot of attention to detail.
In True-crime new york there a easter-egg There was a blackboard that had V8 3?? written on it, maybe Luxoflux was thinking of a delivery for PS2, a pity that Activision closed Luxoflux in 2008 because the developer was not profitable again.
I’ve always wondered, who’s has written and/or performed V8s main theme song. To this day I still listen to both OG theme song and it’s remix. These are just great and timeless tunes. So I hope Dave could bring some light on it. …and of course - great vid 👍🏼
Fun fact-there was car company in USA called American motors(AMC).Their cars being used as prototype for some ingame cars, like Boogie's Leprechaun(AMC Gremlin),Loki's Glenn 4x4(Jeep Willys(AMC owned Jeep brand back in the 70s),also in 2nd offence its Boogie's Marathon(AMC Pacer),Wapiti 4WD(AMC Eagle) and Wapiti 4WD fully modified model(Jeep Grand Wagoneer). But the funniest thing that AMC produced V8 engine for their cars, and it's called...Vigilante!
This was always one of my favorite games to rent at the video store as a kid. It was a real treat when my mom let me rent a game for the weekend. Sometimes it was paper Mario, some time vigilante 8 or the sequel, other times army men, and if I was feeling especially lucky: star soldier vanishing earth.
The character Taurus in Interstate 76 mentions that he was trained by Convoy and they actually interact over CB radio in the first 2 mins of the cut scene
Awesome video. I've been playing this game pretty much since the early 2000's and am a programmer myself so it's awesome to see how it was back then. Those dudes were heroes making a game with such cool art and mechanics in a team of five.
I just thought of something, maybe not true, but possible. I feel like they got the name for Y the Alien when a developer walked in on someone designing characters based around the 70s and said something along the lines of "Hey, I like all these characters you have so far, but....why the alien?", then the guy designing him was all like "Whoa! That's great, thanks!"
Hahaha, I was a kid when that commercial was on TV. Loved it and wondered why it disappeared. This franchise needs a new installment on modern platforms.
Going to be interesting seeing you tackle Interstate 76 at some point. Things a whole different beast based on MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat engine. Don't forget the Poetry button!
@@TheRealDownUnder man, it makes me sad to see such well done videos and the channel only has 1k subs. it also makes me happy when i see there are still people who put so much into it strictly because they're passionate about it, no monetary incentive. i salute you, and thank you for taking me down a nostalgic rabbit hole
If you own the playstation one version of vigilante 8 you could actually still see Shiloh's Beta car It was fixed on the N64 version I actually have vigilante 8 on the playstation one and nintendo 64
For some reason the 1st V8 game feels more alive. It must be the levels. The 2nd V8 game feels kinda dead. My favorite however is V8 2nd Offense, more so the Dreamcast version for the obvious better graphics and it contains the levels of both V8 1 & V8 2. Upscaling V8 on Dreamcast to 4K on Redream is a dream lol would be amazing to have this series come back with its original creators. I absolutely love this series. Thank you, creators. I am proud to have bought the N64, PS1, Dreamcast and even Gameboy Color V8 game. Recently I bought the V8 for the Xbox360, just to have it since they're about to shut down their stores.
I am a fan. I am a twisted metal kid. Me and my friends did play VA and we liked it. Let's just be honest. V8 popularity with nothing compared to TM. Fading into obscurity was kind of its only option.
This game needs a reboot, an you answered a question I had it was about Sheila's car and I didn't know the red white an blue thing on her car was a skin .
Who currently owns the IP rights to the V8 series? I wish we could get our hands on it and make a new game in the series. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to make a V8 game using something like the BeamNG engine?
"Don't ask me how this game relates to Columbine, I'm just an Aussie" Oh it didn't make sense here either. They were blaming everything. They were blaming movies that hadn't even come out yet. They even blamed the guns for once!
you will hear a lot of people say tm was better and v8 is a bad knock off or just a knock off at best but i think its not at all a knock off because it so very clearly differentiates itself enough to be its own thing plus a knock off isnt a game that just so happens to be of the same genre. that and the fact that if you go to any emulation sight v8 2nd offense is always above any tm game so clearly it deserves more than to be labelled a tm clone.
For me, the first game is the best. Maps looked so beautiful and immersive, cars were all unique, specials were all unique and actually special.
Same. They got it so good the first time. Didn't care for the future stuff in 2nd Offense.
i cant decide between the two personally. the first one has a lot going for it but 2nd has a few things that the first doesnt so for me they are equal at the very least.

Yup. Lots of people played these games in the 90's.
I still have V8 and Battetanx on N64. 😁
Same! Battletanx I played so much the disk stopped working
Inserting V8 disc while paused in V8 2nd offense unlocks V8 levels in V8 2nd offense on PS1

When will they develop a new Vigilante 8?
Unfortunately probably never since COD & franchises like that make the most money.
