Just wanted to follow up and let you know that my daughter definitely loved this cake for her smash cake photos. We went with an apple cream cheese frosting because I was worried about whether the whipped cream frosting would travel well. Anyway, our photographer was impressed by how much she ate! Thanks for the easy and apparently yummy recipe.
Oh yay!! This makes me so happy! I'm so glad your little one enjoyed the recipe and that the photoshoot went well! The apple cream cheese frosting sounds delish.
@@kpotluri90 hi yes I took an 8 oz block of cream cheese and let it soften a little at room temp. Then, I put the cream cheese in a large bowl with 4 oz unsweetened apple sauce and 2 tsp vanilla extract. I used a hand mixer to whip it together. So simple :)
I’m using this recipe for a 1st bday cake and it’s amazing, thank you! 😍 I’ll probably use this recipe for other occasions too! I noticed the eggs are missing from the written recipe, so if you’re like me just trying to go off that after watching this remember the 2 eggs! 😁
That's actually really Smart! I thought that the idea of smash cake was amazing but I was skeptical about the amount of sugar the kids would eat, since they are so young. This is so much better and healthier, even for adults!
I am back here at your video to remind me how to make a smash cake as my little girl will be 1 in 2 days . I am so grateful foe you, thanks again for this video ❤
@Victoria Gumbatova I wish I could post a picture of the cake I made her, it was gorgeous! But after all the work I did decorating it, she was so overwhelmed by people singing happy birthday that she started crying and wouldn't touch her cake lmao!
Yum looks delicious i am making this soon perfect for my birthday on 19 September even though am not a baby drooling over my samsung galaxy note 8 love your recipes making me hungry Thanks Ramya
I’m going to make this cake this Friday for my grandson 1st bday. I only use 2 cake tins ( 4”). Do I need to change the quantity for all the ingredients ?
I may try this for my daughters 1st year photos with cake smash. Thanks for including the cake pans you used! Do you have the recipe for the coconut whipped cream you've tried with it before?
Question. Why almond flour rather than regular flour? Does this recipe make the cake dense or no? How different would the cake be if using regular flour? 🤔
Many thanks for sharing this recipe. Could you please detail the quantities of the ingredients for the smash cake and frosting as I should like to make this for my soon to be 1 year old grandson. Many thanks, in advance. Xx 💕💕
You can make the smash cake up to one day in advance. If you do this, bake the cake, let the layers cool completely on a wire rack, place in an airtight container and store at room temperature until you’re ready to assemble and frost the cake right before the party/serving. Storing the cake layers in the fridge will make them cold and dense!
The only other flour I would suggest trying is all-purpose flour, but I have not tested this recipe with different flours so I’m not sure how it will turn out. I highly recommend using almond flour for the best results.
@@EatingBirdFood yes dear....I added 1 cup of wheat flour to this recipe.....with 2 tbsp of coconut oil..but the batter was thick and the cake was rough....it dint rise...but I added yogurt cream..so it was eatable...and my son Enjoyed it..Anyways Thanku for replying..😊😊
I love this! I'm making my baby a Hunny Pot smash cake and will need to frost the cake with a yellow frosting. Was thinking of using whipped coconut cream. Any suggestions on natural ways to color the frosting? I was thinking tumeric but I also really don't want to color my KitchenAid beater 🤣
I feel like a tiny bit of ground turmeric is the perfect option to color the whipped coconut cream yellow. You could also do a store bought icing (like Simple Mills) and use the turmeric in that as well. But yes, turmeric stains everything! I guess another option is golden beets, but they'll likely stain your beater too!
I don’t recommend using oat flour as the cake would most likely turn out dense and not smashable. I have a feeling that all-purpose flour will work, but I have not tested this recipe with different flours so I’m not sure how it will turn out. I highly recommend using almond flour for the best results.
I wouldn't recommend using coconut flour instead of almond flour for this recipe because it hasn't been tested and coconut flour absorbs more liquid than almond flour. I have a recipe for coconut flour muffins (www.eatingbirdfood.com/coconut-flour-muffins/), but I need to work on one for a coconut flour cake.

Lovely recipe, any replacers for eggs?
Love this video. Have to show this to my brother for his sons 1st birthday. I just don’t see how a baby with cake smashed on its face is cute. 😂

I followed exact recipe but my batter is runny. Maybe 1 2/1 cup almond flour is not correct?
Have you tried this as cupcakes? Thanks!
Hello,
Baking powder is safe to use ? Thank you.
It is baked into the cake, but if you have any concerns, you can always consult your dr before giving to your baby!
If I want my frosting to be black/brown what can I add to it to change its colour? I think cocoa powder isn't okay yet... right?
I'm not sure! You could always use natural food coloring.
How much of everything did you use???? That would be helpful
The full list of ingredients is in the description.
Can i substitute the almond flour for ground almonds?
I wouldn’t recommend it!
Thank you so much I am excited to make this :)

Could this be done with coconut flour??

I wanna try this. But I don't have a small spring pan.
You could use a different pan to make this cake! Some people have double or tripled the recipe to make it in a larger cake pan.
