thanks 🖤 im an old guy who played by ear as a kid and never learned anything about music theory. really got the itch to get back to music after a long break from it, and im realizing what a disadvantage it is to not be able to understand music teachers (even when they are teaching me something i 'know'/can feel, but dont have the words for), which is made extra painful by the sheer amount of free lessons available now, compared to pre-internet. i look forward to going through the rest of your content, even if it takes me a few months🍻
This was so helpful- thank you! I'm wondering how you recommending counting 8th notes in compound time? I'm really only used to counting in 4/4 like 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 but I'm unclear on what the equivalent in compound time would be? Thanks again!
I'm having some difficulties intepreting the itallian tempo marks for compound meters. I have a song here with is to be played in allegro - about 120 bmp. This would mean 4 6th notes notes at 120 bmp, however if it is compuound I would have 6 notes instead, making the song much faster and harder to play. My question is, are the itallian words for tempo the same in a compound meter?
This is so helpful thank you! I’m able to find the beat and how it divides, but I always mess up the beat grouping :(. Does anyone have any advice for this?
Do you think that We are the Champions could be multiple meter? I agree with the 6/8 for the chorus but when I listen to the verse I hear more quadruple time, not as strong a down beat.
2 minutes in and I understand it better than my hour-long college lecture.
Yes same thank you!
so good to watch you count it out. Makes it easier to grasp. You are a very good (and kind) teacher.
