Gonna let you know that every garage door tech that comes to your house ABSOLUTELY hates you. Building a shelf that incredibly close to the springs and drums is ridiculous and makes our job 1000x harder. I'm not even sure how they will wind those springs with winding bars when they inevitably break.
I had a garage door tech come out and adjust the springs after putting the insulation in to help with the extra load. He had zero difficulty and actually had very positive feedback. I thanked him for his great work, paid him and the door works great. I have seen much tighter clearances for shafts than this for sure. Just approach your jobs with a positive attitude, everyone benefits. :)
