Monks>>>>> My favorite song from Frank Ocean. This is one of my favorite albums of all time and I tend to argue with my friend whether this or Blonde is his best work lol. I guess this album just hits for me differently than Blonde ever has…. So far.
I think it's stupid to rate singing ability purely based on technical ability. Frank may not have the range or vocal flexibility of the Weeknd or Chris Brown for super showoff vocal runs - corny bullshit - but he has a tonality, phrasing and emotive quality that easily makes him the best R&B vocalist of this generation. I bet almost ever Frank fan fell for his voice first...
Nah you just like his voice better 😂😂 In no universe Frank has a better voice than The Weeknd and Chris. And how tf is showing off your vocal range corny?😂😂😂
@@yusifvaliyev9748 People who enjoy music with deeper themes and messages than "LOOK HOW TALENTED I AM" will forever see the latter kind of music as inherently corny because they just want music that actually makes them feel something, rather than something designed to impress or wow. @@verbatim7508 That is an entirely different convo. The guy above said that Frans is easily “the best vocalist of this generation” even though he can’t do half of what The Weeknd and Chris Brown can do. But no if you want to talk about songwriting that is a different topic. Call him the best R&B songwriter, not the best R&B vocalist (even though The Weeknd is still more interesting lyrically than Frank)
Blonde is cool, but Channel Orange is actually my favorite Frank album. Sure, maybe he did improve vocally on Blonde, but I like the writing and the sound of Channel Orange more.
Frank Ocean is D’Angelo for zoomers. Both are legendary r&b and soul musicians. Both dropped 2 amazing, commercially successful yet critically acclaimed albums and then stopped releasing music for years. I just hope Frank doesn’t take 14 years to drop his 3rd album like D’Angelo did
I always found channel orange more melodic. I know blonde is the deeper, more abstract album like TPAB or whatever. But I am also the guy who likes GKMC more. Especially melodically
happy to see you admit that you didn't really gave this album a proper review, might be because of the time but it's still cool to see you return and comment on such a classic like this and seeing how it has aged
I always saw Super Rich Kids as Frank and Earl commenting on the common rich posture of being better than. It was them showing what actually happens in rich homes. Earl had the perfect dejected and disinterested delivery.
I’ve been waiting for you to address this, but you didn’t have to say The Melodic Blue is the best album with a color in its title and call Frank’s album Channel Borange
I don't know if it will be possible because for sure Melon will be quite busy, but I think that after these 10 years it would be interesting to see a review of channel orange, with all the big context plus a fresh perspective where you can better appreciate the album, probably the redux review could be much broader I wouldn't mind if it was a 7 or an 8, I still think his words could be better explained after all this years
This is a great video. It shows how much our minds can change. It's amazing to realize how much you in the past overlooked or just didn't see. (General you) . To me it is one of the greatest lessons to learn in life and leads to empathy and greater respect for others' perspectives that you very well may just not yet understand. Also it shows to certain people who maybe thought otherwise that your reviews are meant to be subjective and are not meant to pass any sort of final judgment. It shows that you (being human) have surely changed your mind on plenty of records. Everyone's taste in music is a result of their own unique point of view which is a result of their own unqiue experiences that they don't share with anyone else. Your reviews are not meant to say what the album should mean to anyone else, and I think a lot of people in your audience don't get that. If some of your copycatiest fans realized that it's inevitable and sensible that their opinion will differ, sometimes wildly, from yours then the idea that your mind changes over time would come very naturally to them, because they would be enabling themselves to allow andor recognize the same thing in their own lives.
People have recommended me Frank Ocean for the last 3-4 years. I am very young, so 14 year old me struggled to resinate with even his most popular songs. But going away to college and having an eventful couple years of my life under my belt, and at the same time still having a lot of youth in front of me, CO has to be one of the most emotionally impactful albums for me as a person. I prefer it to blonde in many ways. I feel like the disjointed and impatient strapping together of very raw and seemingly random tracks is a relatable thing for someone like myself. Blonde is objectively better and I love that album too but something about the setting, vibe, theming, and energy of CO. Monks and Sierra Leone while shit on by melon are actually some of my favorite, the fun loving and fast paced Monks, and the protagonist of Sierra Leone finding maturity and peace after an unexpected pregnancy. The album really has no dull points and even the more awkward parts move fast. The album is imperfect but what isn’t. Its still my favorite Frank Ocean work to date and I don’t think we’ll hear anything quite like it in a while especially not from Frank as he moves in a slower, more mature, and focused musical direction.

Early Fantano was facile and he didn't know it. He's grown A LOT as a reviewer and person frankly (no pun intended). Music and art is about the phenomenon of something being more than the sum of its parts. Early Fantano never engaged with that as a listener let alone a reviewer. I got the impression Fantano panned this album because it wasn't what he expected and he refused to climb inside the album's own space. Fantano did this a lot in the early 2010s and I honestly wasn't a fan. I always felt like the reviews were more shallow and narrow minded than he realised.

@@NL-fg6it ngl this take is awful
@@NL-fg6it I agree with you. Never even finished listening to blonde
@@bamffatboi5526 if u didn't finish it, how u know if the album is good or not😭😭😭
@@travistchokotieu7915 bruh, the vibes were off, it was ass
Been watching you since the Goblin review came out. Your taste In music definitely started to become more fluid around 2016-2017. You gave me growing out of the lyrical miracle vibes
Channel Orange is a classic, definitely my favorite from Frank
love these kind of really genuinely honest reflections!!
Man my ex loved Forest Gump. A lot of Frank Ocean songs hold a special place in my heart to be honest
Still cannot believe Fantano thought Frank had one of the weakest voices in R&B. One listen to Bad Religion should really leave you with no doubt he is one of the best
i love blonde and channel orange. i just find myself listening to channel orange far more frequently. i listened to blonde heavily when i was Going Through It™️. 😅
I would definitely like to see this as a series. Where you go back through albums where you didn’t fully like or completely understand the project but now you’ve gotten to understand that artist or band a little bit better
Monks>>>>> My favorite song from Frank Ocean. This is one of my favorite albums of all time and I tend to argue with my friend whether this or Blonde is his best work lol. I guess this album just hits for me differently than Blonde ever has…. So far.
Blonde is better in every way , by a large margin. Just my opinion though.
@@Whocares1987no one cares
I saw people talk about this. I didn't think you'd actually look back. That's something I respect about you Melon. You keep yourself level headed.
the main reason this review is rough is because anthony did not hope I’m doing well in the intro :(
You should do a second review for albums upon letting them marinate for a years plus time, what an intriguing video
Like cool, you can sing, but if you can't make me feel something besides boredom, then what good are you really
really dont see how frank has a better voice than the weeknd. hes a great singer but the weeknd is just incredible imo; modern day MJ fr
If it was called The Money Store you would’ve given it a 10.
frank ocean should have called himself frank grips
If Frank changes his name to Freddie Ocean for his next project, he’ll easily get a 10.
This format isn’t funny

Still waiting for that Lil Ugly Mane’s „Oblivion Access” re-review, melonboy
Absolutely wild that Fantano has maintained the exact same stage of hair-loss for over a decade now.
This was amazing, I hope we get more 🇩🇴🙌🏾🇵🇷
Frank Ocean is D’Angelo for zoomers. Both are legendary r&b and soul musicians. Both dropped 2 amazing, commercially successful yet critically acclaimed albums and then stopped releasing music for years. I just hope Frank doesn’t take 14 years to drop his 3rd album like D’Angelo did
Channel Orange was released 2012, how is Frank for zoomers?
@@user-iz1ii1xd6n bruh 2012 is still zoomer, you know that the oldest zoomers were born in the early 2000s, right?
@@gcwens yeah because 12 year olds are listening to channel orange. Get real

I genuinely love every song on channel orange. It was my introduction to franklin himself and the first frank song I heard was super rich kids
I always found channel orange more melodic. I know blonde is the deeper, more abstract album like TPAB or whatever. But I am also the guy who likes GKMC more. Especially melodically
I fully relate! I find myself replaying GKMC a lot more than TPAB, mainly because I can play it on background.
happy to see you admit that you didn't really gave this album a proper review, might be because of the time but it's still cool to see you return and comment on such a classic like this and seeing how it has aged
I always saw Super Rich Kids as Frank and Earl commenting on the common rich posture of being better than. It was them showing what actually happens in rich homes. Earl had the perfect dejected and disinterested delivery.
Reflection is valuable, appreciate you doing it and letting us watch broski
I’ve been waiting for you to address this, but you didn’t have to say The Melodic Blue is the best album with a color in its title and call Frank’s album Channel Borange
Weeezer blue 🤪🤪🤪🤪
cringe
now you NEED to talk about your salem - king night review
Channel orange is the better album but blonde is sadder and since everyone is depressed they like that more
I don't know if it will be possible because for sure Melon will be quite busy, but I think that after these 10 years it would be interesting to see a review of channel orange, with all the big context plus a fresh perspective where you can better appreciate the album, probably the redux review could be much broader
I wouldn't mind if it was a 7 or an 8, I still think his words could be better explained after all this years
They say Fantano's heart grew three sizes today.
this might be my fav r&b album of the 2010s
“is there an MC out there right now better equipped to rap about love?? no.🤓”
This is a great video.
If some of your copycatiest fans realized that it's inevitable and sensible that their opinion will differ, sometimes wildly, from yours then the idea that your mind changes over time would come very naturally to them, because they would be enabling themselves to allow andor recognize the same thing in their own lives.
another record you need to re-review is MOTM II. That album is definitely not a 6 and has aged extremely well
People have recommended me Frank Ocean for the last 3-4 years. Its still my favorite Frank Ocean work to date and I don’t think we’ll hear anything quite like it in a while especially not from Frank as he moves in a slower, more mature, and focused musical direction.
im convinced that melon just doesnt age at this point

Still love this album.
Young Fantano sounded like Jon from ARTV
Watching these old Fantano videos gives some real nostalgia from an era that a good amount of us that we yearn for to go back to
Please do more melon
It's so nostalgic seeing you talk about these reviews now , I remember watching this as a kid and being surprised how you missed the point of some of the songs. But it's super cool how much better you've gotten at these reviews since then .
Better at these reviews as in , being able to articulate your thoughts .
I prefer Blonde but Channel Orange is a fantastic album as well. I still listen to my favorites from this album on a daily basis. Pink Matter, Bad Religion, Pyramids, etc.
Top video recommendation for fantano is "belVita Breakfast Biscuits are baked with slow-released carbs and provide steady morning (energy?)"
Why does no one talk about Lost?
I feel like that’s one of the best songs on the album imo
not as early but my first melon review was I think the sunbather one which reminds me how far the channel has come since then!
i agree fantano.
