Prince was always well ahead of everyone. I remember in his Rolling Stone interview, Mark Kaplan, the reporter, talked about Prince playing a song called Starfish and Coffee. This is June 1985. As you know, the song come out on the Sign of the times LP in 1987. Prince said he never listened to his old material. Always moving forward.
First time hearing this version; I love it! Prince's talent was beyond amazing! He was light-years ahead! He was from another time & dimension! He was the best of the best! He was a pure genius!
Me 2 Rosalina.. I am so very thankful for people sharing little treasures like this with us Purple people.. There is a Ton of stuff out there.. I don't think we will be running out of material from the Purple Yoda.. There are Demos, Rehearsals, Soundchecks, Full Concerts, Several Different Versions to Most of his songs, Extended, Mixes, and on and on.. Peace & B Wild
What I would give just to see him again at a concert… nearly 6 years ago since he stepped into the great wide purple and every now and then it hurts and hits me like when I first heard that he’s gone. See U, Prince (hopefully)…
Stevie Nicks wrote it after hearing Little Red Corvette on the radio. Prince plays some synth on it and took a 50/50 split on publishing royalties. Uncredited.
@@eMann586 That's right. Stevie expanded in an interview, I forgot if it was in print or video, but she said she would sing along with Prince's LRC then, started to improvise vocally over it and create a song over LRC which ended up being Stand Back. I think she was in an LA recording studio, I forget which one, can be researched, one of the big three at the time, and she called Prince out of the blue, he arrived, was quite, got on the synth did that higher note motif. I think Prince may have also worked on that running vamp, could havre done a similar 16 note synth section, thats why it feels very similar to IWD4U and also programmed what I think is the Oberheim drum machine. It's not a LINN, so Prince may have more to do with the song and probably should have been 'producer'. A recent interview of a lady engineer that worked with Prince on the Sunset Sound YT channel shared a funny story of Prince and her and Stevie Nicks. Worth a search for it, rather funny!
Dez and the Modern Aires? ☺️ totally agree this has a Stevie Nicks vibe. We all know the story of Red Corvette and Stabs Back. I think these two artists admired and respected each other and bounced ideas back and forth. I kind of shipped them as a couple in the 80s, lol. I remember her talking about him at the Purple Rain premier, etc. The White Witch and the Purple Master ☺️💜
@@cmq9848 Yep, I wanted to be and therefore I AM a Modernaire! Peggy McGreary if I got her name correct, a former Sunset Sound Studios engineer offered and interview on the Sunset Sound channel and she told a funny story about Prince, her and Stevie Nicks! It's interesting how it's been revealed in certain cases where Prince would take one of his songs and kind of like re-use it in a different key or slower or something. Like Sex Shooter derived from Always In My Hair. So I can only conclude this may have been the case with Stand Back and maybe, MAYBE I Would Die 4 U ;-)
You can definitely hear the genesis of “Stand Back” in this version of “I Would Die 4 U” as that song came out about a year later than this. And of there is the famous story of Prince coming to the studio and laying down the synth for Stevie Nicks.

This song,in all its various forms, keeps on giving! 🔥🎉🔥

A little bit of Stevie Nick's "Stand Back" sample there. Super nice.
He cowrote Stand back.
I wish this went on for another 20 minutes at least.
Nice pre-bedtime jam....

Saw him in concert in the Purple Rain tour. He was really good.
This is so good.
Its hauntingly Beautiful. Layers above and beyond the releashed version.
Better than good! The universe is listening…
Best there ever was! I miss the Purple Maestro - still!
They should release a album of all his rehearsals 💜
From a Controversy tour soundcheck...
was it performed back then?
Incredible. He took out the guitar, but kept His vocal style, and the rhythmic accent. Wow!
I wonder if He did the 'sign-language,' back then, too??!!
@@JANXDPDX - Yes but not in front of an audience.
"Fantastic Prince"
OH 😊YESSS🎸🔥THANK 🌹YOU💜💋
If you are spiritual, it tells it all...
'82?!? This version makes me think 'Stand Back'... so now I just wonder... hmmmm...

That guitar part IS still in the song but instead it's a synthesizer. You see Fink playing it in the movie
nice..

Yep
She was inspired by Little Red Corvette and he played on and got 1/2 royalties of Stand Back.
I'm sure prince banged SN
