Great Video, brought back a load of memories of when I did this in the K1300S a few years back. We had walls of snow in July going up the way you came down. Arent hairpins great. We had loads of fun block passing each other on the 47 or so on the way down.
Gonna have to do something with it. Because if it's sculptured shape, which is comfortable at first, it promotes a very neutral seating position, so you're literally sat in one position all day🤦♂️ The scenery did help though🤣
Change the bike, pay top money for a shocking seat from BMW sadly. Need to spend more for a slightly improved custom seat. I was wanting a Gen2, seat convinced me its not for me. My Gen1 seat i could ride all day zero issues.
Looks stunning covered France Switzerland bit of Germany Austria in to Italy by bike and car when the children was young , haven't done this , its stunning,
Nice to see what it looks like on the way up in the sunshine!… We were there about 6 weeks before you (even stayed in the same town! 👍) We had 30+ degrees much of the day on the way there but it started raining just as we started the climb and it was 2c and snowing by the time we got to the top! 🤣🙄
All the times I have been up and down the Stelvio on many different bikes I have never really seen the scenery, next time I must ride it sedately and take it all in!
@markcostello9514 you're welcome Mark! I haven't stayed in the area, and I have always passed through. There's a hotel at the top of the Stelvio, I bet that's mega!
Me too, have done the Stelvio many times. It's not the best in terms fun factor to ride, it's probably one of the most challenging, but the views from up top are something else!
Mate, can't believe that, we were up there on the 20th. Would have been mint to bump into you, not literally like but you know what I mean. We went back up on the 21st but took a left before the top and went down Umbrail Pass.
You are a lucky one to enjoy Stelvio with a less of traffic in July. Next time take a break for a the famous Bratwurst with Sauerkraut on Stelvio. Take care and ride safe✌️
I still cannot understand how BMW made such a terrible seat on the Gen2 XR, which they promote as a touring bike! Boggles the mind. I was trading my Gen1, not happening after i tried Gen 2. They lost a BMW customer. Great vid. Looking forward to the next one.
Great video Sean, particularly appreciated the hairpin editing - very slick! I cycled over the Stelvio in 2018 - the next time I do it I’ll be on the moto. You had way better weather! Looked brilliant. Really looking forward to finding out in the next video where you went the following day. 👍🏻
Looks like you had a pretty clear run - as did I a couple of weeks earlier other than a decending cyclist on the wrong side of the road at apparently ever hairpin! Enjoy the other side more really especially if you head off down the Umbrail. Looking forward to the next episode 😀
@@thelikeablerider8800 Sure isn't. Managed to get past the bus near the bottom so had a traveling road block behind me! Did the Grossglockner the previous Saturday and it was just an expensive sight seeing tour with a load of frustrated supermoto riders 😉
The seat is a bit deceiving because its sculptured, at first its comfortable but promotes a very neutral seating position, without being able to move about on it, thus the broken arse on longer days.
Missed this one Sean, too busy last time I did it, too many idiots. Stunning piece of road though, probably why it’s popular🤣. Respect to the cyclists, not sure my cardio vascular system would cope.
Hi Ian It can be a real nightmare! Luckily I've only had it the once where it was far too busy but still, the atmosphere at the top is also very appealing when lots of people are there.
Great vid (hope ya ass has recovered 😂). My mates are planning an Alps tour in July 2024. I'm not great with heights but don't want to miss out. Is the Stelvio that scary? Doesn't look too bad from your onboard 😬
I don't want to hurt you, but you take those right hairpins like a bus. What if someone comes from the other direction? I saw that situation a few times. Then comes the panic, front brake and one or two bikes on their side. If I can, I start the turn wide and finish it tight on the right side of the road, leaving enough space for others.
I probably made it sound like a slog, but don't forget I'd riden 2 other mega passes before this one, all in one day. Was probably a tad long for one day. XR performed brilliantly throughout👍😎

And from what I remember the Gen 1 and 2 seats aren't much different.
Looks stunning covered France Switzerland bit of Germany Austria in to Italy by bike and car when the children was young , haven't done this , its stunning,
it's a must Martin!
probably not the best in terms of riding enjoyment, but it's spectacular 👌
Nice! Brings back memories, went there in 2014, need to get back there again. Love the videos!
Perfectly improved the hairpins while gettin higher 👍
Absolutely spectacular!! God I want to ride.

I have also riden it in the pouring rain and fog, with zero visibility🤦♂️🤣🤣
The only fog I had was on the inside of my visor! 🤣 Did mean I couldn’t see how much it was snowing!… ‘Every Cloud’ and all that!!! 😂😂😜
I was up for the challenge, but we had a guy in the group not so much!🤣
I have only been down the IT side from CH, must come back & go uphill! Nice On! *from AUS!
There's three parts to it, important to do this famous bit to tick it off the list, but it's nicer riding on the others sides.
What a perfect scenery. Never been there before which i am so appreciated to have found your video and AndyManCam.. Awesome video man 👍🏻
Cheers dude glad you found it/us👍😜
Wll done that man. Outstanding bit scenery brother and we have all done the neutral at the worst time thing:))
It happens! Main thing is you don't crap your pants and bung it on the deck🤣
All the times I have been up and down the Stelvio on many different bikes I have never really seen the scenery, next time I must ride it sedately and take it all in!
I've done that on others, either the weather was pants, or giving it the pasty and not paying attention to where I actually am!🤦♂️🤣
fellow- Bravo~you shared perfect - have a good day.
Absolutely outstanding footage and scenery. Great work 👏 👍
Thank you m8👍😜
Fantastic editing mate ... its bloody stunning eh... that sore arse is easily sorted by ..... a GS 🤩💯💪😝
Cheers dude, glad you enjoyed it🤟😎
Thanks for posting. Man, getting off the bike you sound like me in the mornings. :) BTW, very enjoyable video.
Was a long day🤣
The scenery certainly was spectacular. Great video Sean 👍
It gets even better next time round😜
Thanks Shaun for doing the video. I'm doing the Stelvio next year. Any hotel recommendations in the area are greatly appreciated.

Well done. Great vid. I hope to be touring around this next year. Ride Safe
Awesome stuff, have a good one👍
Great video 😎🏍🎥👍👊
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it👍😜
Lovely ride! 🎉
stunning
I bet you are more than happy you are doing this tour than the old KTM. The s1000xr seems really fun but easy to ride these distances
It is yes, but I'm still fairly fatigued on longer days with the XR. Bugger must be time for a full fat adventure bike!
You are a lucky one to enjoy Stelvio with a less of traffic in July. Next time take a break for a the famous Bratwurst with Sauerkraut on Stelvio. Take care and ride safe✌️
I did have a break for a Bratwurst and a Bier....for 15 Euros!🤣
Epic Shaun, would love to be there. Thx!
Its utterly amazing! 👍😎

Great work Sean.
Thank you Gigi, glad you enjoyed it👍😎
Great video. Stayed in that hotel in 2018. Really nice! Gavia next?
Yes indeed, and it's an absolute belter👍😜
I've only down it on a driving tour. Still on my tick list to do on a riding tour 👍
it's an absolute must! not the best to ride, but it's one of the most famous, so need a tick next to it👍😎
Looks unbelievable Shaun, next year hopefully 🙏🏻
Fingers crossed 🤞🤞

I was surprised to see it so empty towards the end of July, but then again it ain't much fun when it's packed.

Great video Shaun👍👍. I missed ya by a few weeks. I did it late August. Views are fantastic but too busy for my liking 👍
I was lucky and really wasn't expecting it to be so dead, but agreed, when it's too busy it makes the ride up even harder.
Stunning👍😎
Indeed it is! Not the best to ride as its a long old ride, probably only a 3rd of the ride shown in the video.
Awesome Shaun, apparently an empty Stelvio is rare. Looks like you lucked out :D
I've been 4 or 5 times and this was by far the most empty for the time of year, but too be honest I've never really experienced a real busy one.
Surprised you haven’t got that seat sorted out for a more comfortable one
The seat is a bit deceiving because its sculptured, at first its comfortable but promotes a very neutral seating position, without being able to move about on it, thus the broken arse on longer days.
Very cool
Not my favourite to ride, but it's a pass you just simply have to visit.

Hi Ian
It can be a real nightmare! Luckily I've only had it the once where it was far too busy but still, the atmosphere at the top is also very appealing when lots of people are there.
I deliberately went up the Stelvio from Bormio side, is easier to tackle the hairpins downwards on the other side… 😂😂😅
Yeah it's pretty technical but the views are epic👍😜
Great vid (hope ya ass has recovered 😂). My mates are planning an Alps tour in July 2024. I'm not great with heights but don't want to miss out. Is the Stelvio that scary? Doesn't look too bad from your onboard 😬
Awesome, you must see it to believe it!
It's pretty technical and tight but you'll be fine👍😜
Not so good on the gear selection there Shaun (lol). Group of us going next july from the uk, can't wait!!
We've all missed one😜🤣

It's the Pro City 👍
@@thelikeablerider8800 iIm curious what to pick Trail or City, not sure how big is the difference b/w them. Did you try then both ? Any advice ?
I have both, yes the Trail is slightly bigger, but for me the City is plenty big enough, and my favourite for touring!
